Worlds smallest micro RC Submarine!

try a variety of them and they were cheap on Amazon they're like two days shipping they have different styles operation this one is a 3 channel submarine it actually has to dive motor so it forces itself underwater and then as differential travel for steering also some of these are an experiment to see how I'm gonna build my micro submarine this one is a three-channel submarine as well except this one has a piston inside of it so it's just as points you bite compressing air and then uncompressing air to get this up to go up and down which is actually really cool this is close to a real submarine and this piece-of-crap is a two-channel submarine this unfortunately is what we're going to be building because the IR receivers are playing to use if they work correctly are going to be the simplest and smallest operation here so this one works by actually angling the motors down so it wants to float all the time when you give it gas it pulls itself underwater and when you love go comes up and you just do this cycle over and over and over to keep it under water so it's not very elegant looking but it is technically a submarine but we are actually gonna make a summary even smaller I'm gonna try to make the world smallest RC submarine this is an infrared helicopter it's $5.99 we're gonna try to make this a submarine alright now that it flies I'm gonna coat the flight controller in epoxy because I would normally use courage an X but I don't want to kill my fish or damaged my fish tank ecosystem and then when I put in the water and see if this thing actually works underwater so looks like it's working it's coated in epoxy here comes the test so let's try this approach the helicopter right here there you go okay well I can't fly on water but it does work how can we dig it out cool [Music] our submarine is done it is clearly not that small but I am just going to test the are capabilities of this $5.99 helicopter parts into a mini sub it's actually three channels to so it's similar to this but the weird thing about those that my advanced a throttle then I have control of pitch which is this little rear rotor here so hopefully advancing throat let's get the sub moving and then controlling pitch here dives the submarine and you know makes it come up and all that because this is dynamically diving it's not statically diving so I need to shake a little bit the air out it can't be is a little bit of air inside of it it needs a little bit of foam to keep it afloat alright okay well that works that answers that question yes it works really okay okay I'm steering kind of sucks but that's kind of expected you don't have reverse I don't know if I have to wait for it to just kind of pull it around and I can steer some oh wow that works really good haha here's going up so it does it does go up but it needs a little more room this is actually a little bit too small plays something like this but I'm just testing the IR capabilities of using these things underwater I'm sure it would have worked just fine but I just want to play around and make the submarine [Music] our actually works great because it's operating it's I forget what wavelength infrared light is but it's Debbie cable going through glass and into the water I actually will release the STL for this so you guys want to build this is actually kind of straightforward if you've seen the paper airplane video did in the past or the blip I did in the past it uses these flight controllers from these helicopters and that's actually a real easy way to kind of put all the parts and stuff like this so you want to do that we're gonna do that but we need to build a small summary now so we're gonna do that [Music] check this out so I've taken the receiver and I shrunk in this stuff I've kind of removed the stock by already put a connector on it shrunk the IR receiver head part down so it's smaller and shrunken those wire lengths let's plug it in make sure it still works yeah that already got the Cadfael design last night and set that over to my friend Chad he's printing it out of resin because my normal 3d printer is kind of suck at this they don't print high resolution stuff and I have an idea Lego is have been part of my childhood and probably a lot of other Millennials so they've been making these dumb memes where they take the rescue helicopter and put it in the river to search rescue helicopter like the city I mean it's really stupid I've shamefully laughter that a lot more than a habitat other things but I saw this one where they inversed it where rescue a copter falls in the river and a man it's it's stupid you've seen in the beginning of the video I'm not gonna explain any further but I'm gonna basically take this Lego mini pig and turn them into submarine because I love this kind of humor and it's trashy and I love it probably's gonna run hot glue the Sun to the backside and then glue the motors to his arms and I think I'll have the world's smallest lego submarine [Music] before I get attached this this I need to make propellers and I can't use the full-size ones because they're just too big though overload the power so I have to reduce these to a smaller size that should be good enough for our submarine in X and handsome more [Music] we need to see these floats first yes sinks that's not gonna work in my favor so I'm gonna have to add some flotation to them it's still too heavy let me try something where's Rick give me the controller the LEGO Minifigures now submarine quick throw him in the river [Music] Oh No now the problem is the battery has separated from his little oxygen tanks so now now he just does this in Victor [Music] so I added in our peace of thumb to him this is like a two-channel submarine so I only have the motor speeds on one in two sides so advancing the throttle gets me to pull them down if I love throttle pull it back up so simple very very basic submarine very low-tech but it does work there's one slight issue keep spinning around circles that's because we've hydro dynamically unstable so that basically means by Vance to throttle the center of gravity is too far for from the center of pressure of the this vessel so therefore it wanders around violently left and right without actually tracking in a straight line we're gonna take this jam it between his legs so now we have this clear vertical stabilizer [Music] get out of the way [Music] [Applause] [Music] on to phase three the tangy resident friend and submarine has showed up I got done painting it I detail a little bit unfortunately I didn't check the motor diameter but I think this resin might shrink a little or I don't know maybe my tolerances are a little off but either way the motors broke they definitely are supposed to fit in this housing if you can see like this but definite had to drill not at the drill bit and they broke this stuff is extremely fragile to this resin it's nowhere near as durable as PLA broke that off oh no this is my first time working the resin and I did not realize this stuff is this absolutely terrible moment you see what happens so floats oh you guys oh it's doing here bikes no all right let's take it as a bigger tank all right well I'm not sure for getting any research done personally time soon all right I'm gonna make some adjust this kind of sucks we're sticking to the bottom but no way to return to the surface so our stuff is at the bottom it's rapidly filling with water so any people living in there are definitely dead right now this is a real submarine the bounce points too far forward so that's why snip like that so I got that just that somehow fixed that and then we'll try it again [Music] okay that's so much better this is actually drivable yes it's very very sensitive not much precision control that's for sure oh no [Music] okay they won't quit mod to it I add this kind of like stabilizer or like almost like a fin on a fish really because it really big promise tracking straight line so if we just kind of improve that [Music] [Music] you check it out well you think Sam pretty cool it's definitely really small really hard to drive but it definitely does submarines so I think I have one more thing I've been a challenging me and Sam so I'm going to set up an obstacle course in the tank did everyone see who's the fastest submarine driver so here's the bus of course drive over here go over the sub now order to the sub and then park to the sub inside them look first want to do that wins all right you're on the timer Sam yeah I'm local first and lightly oh come on okay we're over the sub now we can go down and we get off the glass it really likes to stick to the glass come on we're getting there eventually and this is the point where I have Sam is the superior self driver that's pretty good and I've never even used it i only won because I work at Subway this is YouTube this small submarine I've ever seen ir control is definitely iffy in the water I might try this again if I can get a nice swing set megahertz set up for underwater usage because that was pretty awesome it definitely works it's a crappy two-channel dynamic diving
