you know the world's largest tractor made and to this day it still stands the record the legend began 43 years ago when a mighty machine was built up on the high line of northern montana this machine was to conquer increased demands in productivity by providing unparalleled power and reliability this machine was to break barriers and set new records this machine was to leave a lasting legacy that would last for generations and continue on to this very day so [Music] [Music] [Music] you know we just wanted to replace our other tractor with something reasonable and could do more work the big bud 747 even today is considered to be the largest farm tractor in the world it sports a 16-cylinder two-stroke detroit diesel engine that is now capable of producing 1100 horsepower a 1 000 gallon fuel tank an overall weight of over 100 000 pounds and the ability to cover multiple acres of ground in a minute when paired with the williams 80 foot freestyle chisel plow we went and talked to ron harmon that built this tractor and he said this tractor might be available so we we went to work on the project and bought it and brought it home and and mainly we were cultivating a minimum till situation where we were working the ground ahead of seeding and when it got famous all of a sudden toy farmer decided that they'd like to make a toy tractor of it and when that hit people started calling although the williams brothers hadn't purchased this tractor until 1997 they had put it to good use on their wheat farm south of big sandy for several years however in 2009 the 747 was no longer a suitable tractor for the farm and had to be retired from its daily grind this was due to a couple different reasons first the advancement of glyphosate field applications and no-till farming methods in the state of montana meant that the williams brothers no longer needed to plow the ground between growing cycles anymore secondly the tires on the tractor at that time were aging these custom tires from the united tire company of canada were in dire need of replacement but with that company no longer in business it wasn't feasible to replace the mighty 747's shoes that was until the lsw 1400 ag tire from titan was released the lsws were at that time and still are the world's largest tires you know and so they thought that would be fitting for them to fit the tractor the largest tractor with the largest tire with its low sidewall technology and its own record-breaking status as the world's largest agricultural used tire the lsw 1400 was a perfect solution to bring the mighty 747 back to life [Music] [Music] the lsw's you know the the theory behind them is that you know they're going to try to to give you as much traction as for instance you'd have in a quad track so with that said you know the the maintenance on them and the amount of money you put in them it's astronomical you know it's so much better to to use a single tire than than you know all the mechanics of a quad track i think you know that's my theory the 747 had returned to the farm just in time for seeding meaning that it was now time for another mighty machine to make its way up the hill so although the williams brothers enjoy having the mighty 747 back on their farm it isn't exactly clear what the future of this tractor will be someday our ultimate goal would be have it in a museum permanently we're still a no-till operation and that's one of the reasons we quit using it to go over you know this all this land two or three times a year you know it's really not that necessary and we've found that the the no-till farming you know it's it's helped our yields because you know we're conserving moisture we're building top soil you know we've got to conserve the drainages and the washing and we're just trying to conserve the land and so that's the way we're doing it although there isn't much of a demand for the tractor in today's modern farming practices thanks to a new set of tires and proper mechanical care from the williams brothers the tractor will be ready if duty calls and the legacy of an american icon will live on for future generations to come as much work as it's done you know it could actually go out there and do every much as work as it did 15 years ago 20 years ago i mean it it can still do the job [Music] [Music] [Music] special thanks to titan international for their support in making this video possible to learn more about the mighty 747s conversion to their lsw ag tires check the links in the video description thanks for watching you
