Is there a traditional style that this vessel emulates?
The quality of the filming is worth the upvote online. So interesting to watch.
I like the craftsmanship but I am not a fan of the design. Your technique is very well executed and your skill is awesome, but your design is unsettling.
The thickness of the interior does not mesh well with the thin laminate Xs in the center of the body and the perfect symmetry of the rest of the piece does not match the small imperfections in the hand-carving on the finial. In my opinion, I would've preferred to see a thinner overall wall thickness in the base or larger pieces used in the X pattern. A less organic shape in the lid might pair better with the rest of the angular design. Purely esthetic preferences on my part.
The talent to put this together is awesome. Keep it up.
This really touched on some great techniques, many that I have never seen before, or have seen used in a new way here. I am more of a functional woodcrafter so I have less appreciation for the end result than someone with a fine-arts background, but I can see that you had a vision, you executed it well, the end result is beautiful, but it just isn't to my somewhat pedantic taste. You really have inspired me to think about some of the projects I have coming up and I wonder if I can pay a bit more attention to "form" over function in some places.
Also, another example of artisanship here, which I am not too dumb to appreciate, is the videography and choice of music. I am not overly fond of music in woodworking videos because very often the music tries to shove its way to the front. Your choices here in music were excellent for the topic, and your editing skills are fantastic. I watched the whole thing through yesterday, and even came back to it again today. Well done.
How many hours did it take you to make this piece?
How much would you guess you’ve spent on woodworking equipment over the years?
Did you treat the area where you did that filigree work with some resin before you started carving and drilling so it wouldn’t fall apart? What happens if you sneeze while you’ve got the drill in there?!
I’m amazed at your talent!
thats a beauty! hope it lasts a long time
