well here we go again welcome to another boat video this is going to be on a jetstar 1250 it uh looks to be maybe late 80s early 90s i'm not sure told it's been sitting 20 to 25 years and ran good when it was parked uh but it's at a yard where i'm doing a bunch of other work and getting rid of things there's no title yet but he said he thinks um he might be able to get one for it so i popped up the hood here and i've never seen a boat quite like this but um two-stroke or two-cylinder it smells horrible in here like just the worst rat piss you ever smelled hopefully the motor's not locked up but oh that just pops right off too check it out i guess we'll just start doing a quick you know walk-around tour like usual and then get it home and see if the motor runs uh so you got this seat here and it looks like that actually well it just pops up oh i see so you could flip it up like this maybe and then sit backwards like this one comes off and sits on the bottom so you can sit backwards maybe like a little ski boat kind of thing steering's not locked up it's got a key that turns nice looking gauges without any condensation in there made by ultronautics corporation the windshield and it's basically a huge jet ski i guess a three seater jet ski trailers in pretty rough condition but the bottom is nice i don't know how much wood's in this boat hopefully not much let's look in this thing here look at this this is great condition this is coming out of here that's just yeah i guess there's probably a little bit of wood in but this is seems nice looks like he's got some tool storage here in the film let's pump up these tires and see if we can tow it home these you know they'll pump up fine they always do how's this ladder lockout pull up real hard now oh yeah there goes boom i don't know if i'd trust that anymore the old plastic but nice ladder on the back how are the floors um oh yeah a little soft okay no big deal though need some new plywood the whole probably just got those out completely oh man look it's sitting in this thing i can totally picture flying down the river on this polygard i guess this is the radio oh yeah uh sunky honk sunkyong sir 3100 tape deck on there heck yeah well that makes wait that's puncture on awesome i guess i jinxed myself that time off oh well yeah not a over here either you know they always do convenient like new i might have to lose sneakers i'm going straight and the boat is not going straight what happened that was the toughest reverse job of a boat ever just wanted to slide sideways another one another boat it's a jetstar 1250 what do you think small yeah it's like a little jet ski but i mean it's a boat so we can be out at night it's got the lights isn't it yeah yeah it's a mini mini little as soon as they pulled the cover off i was like oh yeah this thing's awesome the jetstar 1250 revisited after i guess it's been about a month or so kind of just used as like a storage unit now so before this gets any more junk on top of it let's dive in see if it works the engine's not seized up i'm sure she's a runner did go ahead and put a couple new wheels got these on ebay 4.8 by 8 carlisles let's dive in first things first is this motor locked up or not [Music] i'd say definitely not since it's a two-stroker nice oil residue on those plugs you can pretty much guarantee it'll be a nest in here right inside the air box no no nest that's so weird that the driver's seat is on the the port side on this very odd yeah it goes right into gear i was reading up this is a suzuki 800 cc 60 horsepower how the heck does this fuel connection come off this quarter twist or something no more twisting quarter hmm oh yeah a little crude on the terminals bad idea there let's do it again [Music] that was sloppy lube up these cylinders a little bit i'm gonna hook up a weak jump pack see if we get a good crank look how many grounds this has it has five grounds on it and i don't see a lanyard anywhere let's see if we got anything no choke point push in and no crank and i've got our switches oh that's a bilge pump kicking on we definitely got enough juice to crank her let's just go straight to the starter solenoid could take this off and hand crank it but not worried about it so it's got like some gum down on here but see the two lugs and here we go hmm nothing not a good voltage at the solenoid and when i join the two we get voltage here so the starter's locked up already tried tapping on it with the adjustable so maybe we'll give it a little air handle just right on the 12 mil not full blast and that'll make continuity inside the starter giving you another go with the adjustable nothing oh look at that actually has a little access cover right here yeah motor turns over fine oh yeah nice and free lube up that bendix there we go oh yeah let's do a quick compression check 135 435 i was just holding the rubber tip on there so she's healthy [Music] [Music] huh [Music] [Music] so [Music] i cleaned her up pretty good i'm gonna tag it with some soap and scrub brush now on these stubborn areas like up here you know i hit that with the pressure washer but you're gonna do a little scrub action on that and hit it again or you could try hull cleaner on these boats this works wonders it'll make this shine bright white again however it's pretty corrosive not that this trailers can get too much worse than it already is but it could do weird things to plastics and other items it's it's a light mild acid i try to not use it [Music] throw some juice and feel of this that you'll fire right up and be on the water in no time and got these little guys quartered by 20 volts and a couple quarter 20 wing nuts yep that'll do it looks good for the fuel system the tank on this boat is right up here little guy looks like maybe you know 8 or 10 gallon tank down there if we're lucky and so that comes and hoes right to here to this little weird connection never seen one like that got your primer bulb which is rock solid i don't want to break that and then this is a vacuum diaphragm pump that uses crankcase vacuum to pulsate and pull fuel maybe a filter in there too but i don't want to take this off because i i don't want to risk tearing the diaphragm if it's you know still working right now so we'll just uh pop this off here put a gravity on it and then we'll check if the pump's working later and we got two stroke gas going down to gravity crack that valve open make sure it a takes fuel and b that they're not leaking i don't know if these are bowl type here these these do have bowls on them instead of like a diaphragm two-stroke carb yeah it didn't really take much of any gas it will start and fluid [Music] look at that sounds healthy too let's fire it up again with some water the only water inlet i see is this little guy down here need a female to female adapter so this will work all right maybe that was just running on starting fluid then it doesn't seem to be taking any fuel through the pump we're going to bypass that now as soon as i pop the hose off we got plenty of pressure coming through that means the bowls just aren't taking gas i'm sorry these actually have drains on them i seen a spring-loaded screw but that looks to be a drain and i see this dangling in the wind too not sure what that went to this one's loose as well you should really just take these off before you do anything oh yeah see now we're getting we're getting some raunchy gas out of there oh that smells terrible but that's okay with these two strokes a lot of time you just flush that old stuff out and the two-stroke gas really just stays a lot better over time than regular now these are gonna have to come off i think i mean sometimes if you take brake clean and shoot it in the holes you can kind of flush the crud out of there and get the floatston seas i'm sure a lot of you guys are thinking why don't you just pull the carbs off right now uh and the answer is i like to just do it you know bare minimum plus she's out and because that's oh yeah that's good stuff will it run with bare minimum effort well no matter what i do i cannot get these carbs take gas so that means they got to come off and fix those floats i even tried taking this hose and put a little bit of pressure in it and nothing i did find out what this little lever is sticking here that's just for the the choke solenoid which is completely missing what are you barking at back there come on you can't be in the middle of the yard and get scooped up by hulk here we go come on go get him go get him anyway so that makes sense why the choke wasn't working let's take these carbs off find out what they look like inside even after hosing them out probably a little bit cleaner now also i want to take the fuel pump off too because this was taking a touch of gas out of the container which means the diaphragm is probably torn inside allowing gas pass underneath the piston that might be why it was smoking so much when we were starting on starting fluid that diaphragm looks good um yep touring diaphragm on this side i always try to avoid taking the carbs off because all these gaskets are going to tear and everything like like i got a screwdriver in here to try to save that one and still tore a little bit down there oh yeah that needle's just all chunked up but the yeah the main jet's pretty gummed up too so this wouldn't wouldn't have been able to run without taking the carb off you know that's what happens when it sits for a long time like that we'll do a quick spit shine and get it on the water check this out i went to split the carbs apart you got to take these screws off and whoever last took and you could i could definitely tell these have been taken off before uh nobody bent these lock washers back over so you know it doesn't take much for one of these 10 mils to to rattle out and get sucked into the carb boom there it goes motor's blown that one's just as dirty it's nice that neither the boat gas gets tore though they sold heavy duty ones stayed intact emulsion tube is nasty yeah a lot of guys been commenting that i have to get a ultrasonic cleaner and i agree this is when they get nasty like this better off just dropping these carbs and something to clean them break it all up first that would not have run take a look at those needle and seats luckily these are removable oh yeah there's a needle it doesn't have the rubber tip on it so we could definitely clean this up the plunger seized up but we can get that working too let me just look at the seat okay we're gonna get ultrasonic cleaner jen's gonna take us for a ride in her brand new 1974 gran torino elite gotta love harbor freight here we go 2.5 liter ultrasonic cleaner i'm hoping this works well it says don't put multiple parts in at once otherwise you can damage the parts so we'll just put most of the parts in at once and maybe do the bodies separate put these throw everything on in there why not the big one's gonna be what does it do to these blocked up jets an emulsion tube and the float oh yeah and will it free the stuck needle and seat i mean that's completely locked in there it says fill it with lukewarm water any hotter could damage the transducer or use an appropriate ultrasonic cleaner but we'll just let's go with water and i see the floats are floating which is a good sign since that's what they're supposed to do drop the lid on we're gonna set it the longest at 480 seconds and hit it let's take the lid off see what it looks like oh i already see dirt coming off yeah ultrasonic we'll let that do its thing done that was two cycles because the first time i opened it i was like uh that didn't really do much let's see what we got here all right well yeah i'm not thoroughly impressed i mean these floats still look all gummy like i got to get in there and clean them and yeah that's uh looking about the same although yeah it's breaking off much easier okay so it did a number on there with you gotta remember it's only using water so maybe using a ace ultrasonic cleaner would work much better better uh the needles yeah i mean actually it did something i'm not like blown away or anything but uh yeah still gonna have to go to town and wire wheel these and clean them up i do have this chem dip too i've had this for many years however when i got this is the new voc compliant formula and i've left carbs in here overnight and just haven't been genuinely like impressed with the results uh i don't use this that often because sometimes just good old-fashioned elbow grease is the way to go let's get these cleaned up put back together i mean maybe the solution just works a whole lot better i'll have to get some got those jets cleaned up nice and tight the old-fashioned way see it's got some corrosion under there but hey as long as you can see through them and everything's shiny you're going to be good to go on these needle seats the best way i've found is get yourself a piece of paper cardboard or even emery cloth turned inside out and uh you know just one little roll of it stick it in there like so and then use a drill on high speed and polish the seat you're not trying to take anything off you just polishing it up so it gets nice and hot in your fingers and take a look in there as long as that seats nice and shiny you should be good if you see pitting you might need to use some kind of abrasive to polish that up like a very light abrasive and i'll just blow this out with brake clean and get the stuff around that hole but as long as the hole is shiny you're good to go the chrome on the needle shined up real good and then i got the plungers operating these were completely seized up the way i find good is i just took some engine degreaser and you take the plunger and then you force it into a pull of that push it down you might have to pull it back out with a pair of pliers couple times and then work it back and forth like so and before you know it that one's still a little sticky but you'll get it working and blow through all the holes in the car body and slap everything back together now we just got to do something about the gasket we'll just put a little dab of right stuff silicone on there because the rest of the gasket the broken part is still on the block so you it'll it'll mate itself back together and over those lock tabs too you also have to synchronize these carbs you see how that one's cracked open the touch and the top one sealed shut well you have linkage adjustment right here i just said it where it was before but i'll have to adjust that all together we're ready to smoke up the backyard i turned on the fuel it dropped it's not leaking so those floats are sealing go ahead and hit the manual choke i double g the garden hose adapter so that shouldn't leak a nice water flow coming out throw that in gear oh i didn't like that too much it's not warmed up yet either though [Music] oh boy [Music] yeah this throttle cable is a little [Music] was a run sticky two stroker luckily caught the ignition quick enough because when they start running away like that ah let's turn this water off some of these engines they'll allow water to get into the cylinder when they run away it doesn't even need spark and the only way to stop it is covering the intake if the piston gets hot enough hmm why did it do that i'll start by checking the vacuum pump here steel pump what i did is just have a piece of rubber in there so that uh you know because otherwise you're pulling a straight vacuum leak through here so see i i blocked that and that should seal it that looks like it was sealing good i found the problem it's just a throttle cable misadjusted but we're going to exclude it from the equation right now because look if i go full throttle it's not even moving the cable and it's just coming back up there's something wonky going on there maybe a broken cable or something in here but let's just take that out [Music] hold it wide open smoke out the river [Music] i tried taking this stupid control out the nice way now i see why it's missing this little plastic clip that holds the cable into place this is the one from the shifter that's what i'm looking for in here i'm sure it fell down and ended up somewhere but nothing couple self tap screws can't fix throttle is now working as it should engages all the way down it tracks all the way up and the clock has run out i promised jen we'd be on this by the end of the day on the river so we don't have fuel yet uh definitely not going to mess with the the regular fuel tank and the pump don't work so let's just get a gravity tank on here i'm thinking maybe the five gallon jug from my urinal because that already has an adapter on it's just like a little flushing you know whatever you can just drill out this one too in my three-quarter inch mpt i got small nipples this is already threaded with three-quarter however i think this fits the bill much nicer because see there's a little kind of groove there i can thread that down but use an o-ring in there as well so we get the real nice seal perfect o-ring compression that's gonna seal we got three-quarter to three-eighths adapter a nipple a ball valve and a barbed mpt slept that all together looks good it's rigged enough throw a bungee cord on it good to go put the old butt plug in people don't like me calling with that though give her a tug fuel tank hold down throwable couple life vests fire extinguisher anchor tools jf egg whoa because i didn't see this charging when it was running tow rope one paddle let's go oh and a whistle i guess we should probably address this before hitting the road huh yeah that'll do it premium time to launch we're well past low tide and it's still coming up usgs proved right here what it's leaking that's just the vent for it that's not going to be how about on the bottom that's good good thing we brought a fire extinguisher and a bailing bucket [Music] mr wigglebutt's coming on the boat oh freight train's coming check it out guys [Music] what's he think of the boat he loves it he's like i don't know this one's so small and stupid-looking squishy floors yeah a little bit it's little work on the floors this thing's just feather right i gotta turn the gas on too but i want to get it running first [Music] race mode keep us going that way with the wheel got it not taking any water on bilge pump works too you like this more than the jet ski we'll find out so far so good sounds like it's running one's channel chilling there but we gotta we gotta let it wide open out here once we get past the hazards rocks it'll split this thing in two where's your light best this guy is on that's the only run at once the only for some reason i don't know why right fine in the driveway and we are over 12 volts so it looks like it's georgian a little bit no speed rpm's working though we got a beautiful view on the river trains going by live music playing tulsa time see what we got going on oh we got good engine access here and you can figure out why it's running that way you guys hear that you guys hear it idle it's running both cylinders and as we start to accelerate still kind of hitting the other one and then it just goes to run it straight one cylinder not getting enough gas for the car dock a little high for this boat don't hurt yourself wow it's real tippy with just me here you go renfree judging by the spark plugs i'm gonna say the bottom one's running and the top's not i'm gonna go verify which cylinder i'm thinking it's a float issue on the top carburetor which you know yeah we didn't adjust anything i just kind of left it all where it was set let's find out now that we're pretty sure it's a carburetion issue on the top i can take this cover off and i should be able to modify the carburetor on the top so i'm going to get us running both full throttle on one cell on and i'm just sticking my fingers in the card right now there it is there we go oh yeah baby [Music] [Music] the only little problem it has is it takes some water on i would say maybe a half gallon per 15 minutes which is quite a bit but we're going to tie her up here at the dock go get some some dinner and i think it'll be float when we get back he'll have a look it doesn't have anything very important in it so it's not a big deal if it sunk [Music] [Applause] [Music] and the boat is still there let's see how much water's in it though yeah not that much actually it's it's it's not bad it's got like couple inches back there belch let that bilge out next day let's rectify this carb issue and go for another rip i gotta pull these puppies back off and you know that's what you get when you rush it and you don't set the you should always bench test the floats but nine times out of ten you put them back the way they were and you'll be fine let's see what's going on before taking these apart i'm going to see how much fuel is in each bowl the upper bowl actually had a good amount we're at uh three-quarter ounce on that let's see what the bottom is much higher on the lower bowl we got almost a full capful here he's taking the upper float and bending the tab a little bit micro adjustment put it back together and see what they're at that's a very barbaric way of setting the float height it's really supposed to measure them and everything but this time instead of just slapping them back on i got hooked up to the bottle opened the valve it's been sitting for a couple minutes now we have no leaks i'm 99 sure that's going to take care of the issue and while that intake gas gets curing i guess let's address a few other items we got to get some tongue weight on this trailer it has none at all and the new strap on here i did spray this down with some pb and got that moving last night and then the fuel tank well i think we're gonna just skip that for now it's all corroded up here and i do see fluid in there that smells just terrible bare minimum for the tank is pulling a vacuum here sucking out everything that's in the bottom of there and then filling it with gas but really you want to pull the whole tank and thoroughly clean that out because there's probably water and sludge on the bottom it's gonna just give you problems down the road so you take this whole cover off here and pull that out clean it but you know we're gonna just stick with that auxiliary tank i did just notice this little guy and i guess that's okay yeah that's the fuel tank vent i was thinking for a second that was the pisser tube reached my head in here which i didn't see flowing yeah that just it just goes down to the fuel tank [Music] see if i got something in here that'll work we're not these are all just short strands there's four of them yeah let's go with some of the same stuff that's on there we also need a hook i got this nice little brass guy but not gonna waste that this old adjusted one will work it's perfect [Music] that positions these back straps much nicer too for the lights this just needs a whole new wire kit because these are all corroded beyond repair and i can see why somebody left it pulled back on the trailer uh because this front rollers actually pushing in quite a bit on the bottom and the bottom of the hole when you pull it forward like that so really those probably have to come up some or just get rid of this all together let it rest up there i'm not gonna worry about that for now let's check out this water leak too the bottom of the hole is pretty nice as far as i can see i don't see any holes yet i see some water over by the jet drive it's more than likely just the seals where the jet drive goes into the engine but actually no right here i do see a crack there and some water kind of coming out of it so you really got to watch with these box tubing trailers because when you see rust on the outside usually that means they're rusting through but this one actually sounds like it's pretty decent in most areas i don't see any any rust holes through yet and the axle's really nice on it that looks like it's been replaced before just get those brand new tires yeah i guess we want to run this before we hit the water do a carb adjustment on it too right up on the choke i remember we talked about the synchronization between carbs before i just said it by vision the other way [Music] and i don't know if you guys can see the mercury but this one's up at 10 this one's down at seven this basically has a little pool of mercury at the bottom so now all i gotta do is adjust this until both of those are perfectly even which is right there now i gotta sort of idle up the touch then uh you know smash the throttle a couple times bring it back take a look and they're still even so we know those throttle plates are synchronized back on doing a few last minute checks put the bilge plug in looking back here and then i see this bolt sticking out on the steering cable and uh yeah pretty sure that should have a nut on the bottom luckily i do have a quarter like 20 is what it looks like not right here night lock could actually use longer bulk stitches barely grabbing those nylock threads probably why the other one came off but that'll hold this trailer's tracking so much straighter now with a touch more tongue weight smell huh hey gus what do you think just push off fire it up sound a little bit better let it rip wide open see what happens oh yeah there it is that's running a little bit better guys pull up on land let gus do his thing he's probably sick of being on the boat lots of stuff to suck up here all right gus catch a little spot nice lord over here yeah i'll take that oh wheat nice one talk about sucking gas and hauling out that thing is full throttle making a massive weight heading my way [Music] you know [Music] so you know [Music] i just want to do a couple more tests with this ultrasonic cleaner since i don't feel like i showed a great example using just water i was talking to my buddy alex and he was saying that musty one actually fills his with this the chem dip or like a heavy duty carburetor cleaner or simple green and so from what i was reading that could damage this i'm not really worried about i mean it's a stainless steel tray in there i don't see how it could but i did pick up some ultrasonic cleaning solution that's designed for carburetors and i have a pretty good example of another carb i'm working on so we'll dunk this guy in there and it's not quite as filthy i mean the parts are still nasty they're not quite as bad as the other one was but you know the floats are good so it'll be a good example got this on amazon it says mix it one part solution five parts water lukewarm water popper off and we'll run two cycles i also don't like that you can't run like a 30 minute cycle on this thing so i think i'm gonna get a different unit a larger one at that since i'm fairly impressed with what this did with just the water let's see what we can do here i'm gonna let that run and then these other parts that look like so i'm gonna drop them in the chem dip overnight see how they look and after two 480 second cycles let's see what we're looking like with the carb cleaning solution well this looks better but you know not really better than what the the water did the float that was pretty gummed up um you know it's it's not bad but again i wouldn't say it's like light years better than how well it worked with the water and the bowl yeah about the about the same deal where you know it gets it to a point where you can just kind of wipe this stuff off um and it looks great and then this has been sitting in here for about 20 minutes and uh we'll leave that overnight though take a peek at it we're actually three days later here we go well first of all wow that float came out really nice so you know maybe i just wasn't waiting enough time with this chem dip every time i used it that is impressive that's very impressive actually this it stripped uh strip the paint off wow yeah that did a really nice job i don't even it just dilute everything into the chem dip and let's see what it did yeah that's uh that's very impressive i'm gonna start using this more i wonder if the old stuff's better because this is a new voc compliant of course this is still 10 years old or so but yeah that's extremely impressive you just need to give it more time that's all there is to it so that sums the video up again thanks for watching and hopefully those last few clips helped give you a little bit better idea um clearly this stuff's the way to go but the ultrasonic parts cleaner does it a lot quicker totally off topic but we're going to finish this video with putting a closing on the 1970 chevy monte carlo we did the video put it on ebay and it ended up selling for uh try to plug a screenshot of it but 12 600 and i'm sure some of you guys are thinking oh that's that guy overpaid but not really i mean the previous owner had a pile of receipts for this car he put a lot of really good parts in it i think the guy got a pretty sweet car for 12.6 he can put the final touches on it i'm including all the parts uh something i did say and then the final repair i'm gonna do is you know that crack in the back of the frame let's take a look at that because i told him i would take care of it before he sends his car carrier to pick it up and there's a glance at it it sucks it's right where the rubber body bushing is but i think we'll just clean it up push it in jack it up on the back you can see again somebody welded it before and then it cracked so we'll leave the rubber stitch it in place and then do a little brace across so it doesn't crack again there's nothing on the back it's hollow through the back so it's not on a fully boxed section of the frame we got this gas tank right here so [Music] got that welded up good and now it's just going to sister it up with this piece going across so it doesn't ever crack again [Music] and there's the final product just gonna hit it with some rubber undercoating and i promise you that won't ever crack again at least in the same spot uh two weeks later a little update uh the ebay deal ended up falling through the guy said he got covered unfortunately and couldn't purchase the car anymore so i sent a second chance offer to the next guy at twelve thousand five hundred uh he accepted you know purchased sent me a deposit but then the next day he called me back and said that he couldn't follow through with the deal either because of his kids and then so i put it on local facebook at this point because i was kind of you know ebay seems a little i don't know didn't feel too great about that at the time uh so i ended up selling it for two grand less 10 500 on marketplace guys sent me a check and now the car should be leaving later this week all right guys that's the end of the 1970 monte carlo off to its new home in massachusetts uh guys already got new front springs on order and a bunch of other stuff he plans to put put some work into it keep it in the garage drive it use it have a blast and that is just awesome to hear and with that going it's on to the next thing probably go get the torino back over here the torino elite get some work done on that gus is over here he was barking his whole head off at that driver you wore yourself down barking huh gus you want to show everybody the trick uh jen taught you huh jump through oh look at that let's do it one more time jump through jump through good boy you're a little stunt dog aren't you
