Cody really phoned it again. That was one of the worst episodes of the wranglerstar reality show.

welcome back friends to a very windy day on the homestead in today's video i'm going to be sharing with you the new and improved dyna firewood processor now this is much improved over the unit that we had goodness what was it six years ago and i've ran personally through here about good probably 20 30 35 cords of firewood so i feel like i'm in a spot where i can i really can't tell the differences between the old and the new i'm going to share with you what i like what i didn't like and then i'm going to run starting from from a bear log we'll run the whole process so you can see how every different function of it works it truly is an incredible machine let's do a quick walk around and then we'll uh we'll process my very last logs i've been saving for this video the very first thing you probably noticed is gone is the gas engine gone is the kohler and in is a turbocharged caterpillar diesel this is very nice single alternator if a brand new turbocharged caterpillar diesel doesn't give you the fizz then i invite you to click the thumbs down right now if you do like caterpillar diesel then you click the thumbs up did i mention had one alternator so that's a really nice upgrade it has tremendous power big big difference over the gas where i really noticed it was in the wood splitter my goodness that wood splitter which we'll see here in a minute is so powerful that you can actually split sideways yeah believe it or not so that's a really nice addition here's the fuel tank and the battery very well put together this is a great machine if you had if you've got a rental fleet or your rent equipment out or wanted to start a small business this is something that i think you could turn loose on the general public and even they would have difficulty tearing up easy to service i love to see the remote filters very very nice a cool tool box with a combination uh gas fuel tank toolbox which i hadn't seen before really like that so you've got your fuel right here all lockable so you don't have to worry about the children putting dirt in there now we use the big harvester chains we went through a ton of chains the big day when we were cutting firewood for the community which we were able to just for just for fun able to supply fire what i think for almost 30 families how much did we cut i'll bet we cut i don't know man it must have been good it must have been 30 cords or so 35 cords five five truckloads two log truck loads and three dump truck loads the other one i thought that it was a bit on the small side because you could only put about 12 foot logs on and you know that you really eat them up faster than that short here we were putting 20s we were putting these long ones on here no problem whatsoever even if they stuck off the side there was lots and lots of stability not only that but we can cut i think it's 22 at the butt so 22 inches that's pretty darn big uh for firewood so uh improved chain system uh improved uh the way this system worked better these teeth i think was a it was a better design it seemed to move the logs especially the wet slippery ones better but one of the things that i really liked that that i did not like on the other one is that now this table here the chain that you you load up all your wood on now this is you raise it and lower it hydraulically the other one was manual and i felt it was kind of dangerous another benefit now that we use bar oil and before it just bled a little bit of the hydraulic fluid off of the main tank which you can see right there to lubricate the harvester bar now it's got its own dedicated oiler which is a lot better i told you guys there was a lot of steel in here i set aside a few examples this did the chainsaw bar did not like this big iron spike in there and a lot of these logs had a license plate on them you can see right here so this was the sds lumber company kind of a tag now these were boom logs remember these are what were in the columbia river that they used basically like water fences for corralling logs when they used to deliver logs down the river the startup sequence is quite simple turn your key on of course it's diesel let the glow plugs warm a bit and then hit the startup that caterpillar diesel sure sounds nice before i set a log up there i wanted to show you the deck lift so this is now controlled here from the command center all hydraulic this is really really nice once you set the log up on the deck it sits on these big heavy chains and you can put goodness you put half a dozen big logs up here and and store them then if you look and see in these all these bearings there's a drive chain right there you see that hydraulic motor right there with the chain going up that turns the chain through those linkages so these will rotate here and roll the log forward and that's controlled right here at the at the command center so you see the deck forward these are multi-purpose controls so they they do multiple functions so if we go deck forward by pushing this here we'll see right there now that is carrying the log over to the main chain and it should just dump it right in there so if we go log forward here on this controller you can see by moving it this way of course all hydraulic now this is going to move our log by pressing this it's going to move our log forward so it can be accessed by the harvester bar so we just bring that forward and remember it goes faster we're just idling here and then we set it to our stop right there so there's when we cut we're gonna have a 14 inch piece [Music] here's where i'm going to level one of my criticisms and it's not entirely the machine's fault but i think there's improvements that could be made you saw how long it took that harvester bar to go through there what that's telling me is that this chain is indeed needs to be replacing now when the chain is sharp and everything is is perfect this is an almost flawless design it cuts through so quickly that it severs these fibers at the end and the firewood round falls cleanly and in the right orientation to simply in our next stage that we'll shove it through and split it when the chain is not completely optimal and not super sharp then it cuts the slow speed causes this thing to flip and to sit in there sideways and i've found that to be my hands were constantly in there fiddling with and those can get jammed in there and it's very exhausting especially if you're working with this bigger stuff i know yeah the solution is is to change the chain and get the cutting speed up but even even then on the bigger stuff it almost i almost feel that the harvester bar doesn't have enough power and doesn't cut fast enough because when it doesn't cut fast then it doesn't fall cleanly and you have to deal with this and this was really a pain you got to open up the door and you got to get your hands in there and it's not it's not entirely safe either i mean you you probably should shut off the machine but you know you don't want to do that fiddling with this is was really a bummer a lot of people commented on it and i you know that's it is kind of what it is i don't know what the solution is but there's got to be some way to improve that maybe a more powerful bar that's faster this is the main splitter control and it's got its own handle which is nice because after an hour so you kind of get it figured out you start getting very fast you're working with two hands you're moving your logs with the right and you're activating your splitter very nice that it has a full return back so you can lock it out to return you don't have to hold it and you can work other functions but the splitter is very very nice now the other thing that we have here is the wedge up and down so what that does is that changes the height of this splitter so if you have small logs and you want to kind of custom tailor your your rounds to what size your firewood should be i found this to be very useful i liked it a lot it was very good so you look at your log and you kind of size it where you want that to be the plane in the middle and you just kind of go with that now remember we're idling but i want to show you how powerful this thing is so if we go forward and we'll see here it is beastly yeah so that's the full stroke there so that will sit there it's not going to go on the conveyor yet the next piece will push it in so we'll just do another one here so you can see it [Music] [Music] now that one fell correctly that is my brief overview of the dyna sc16 so why do i have this here a few years ago i was a keynote speaking for the mother earth new fair news fairs before covid and dinah was one of the companies that had equipment there uh with some of the vendors just showing showcasing things that were available to folks in the homesteaders and people that wanted you know to start businesses and such and they had one running there and i stopped and talked to the guy and ended up making friends with him and they offered to bring one out that's how we got the original one so they really stepped up and it was really kind of them to offer to let us use this for a couple weeks and our friends down at the sds timber company they donated some logs we had a bunch of our friends and neighbors that came and volunteered and it was a real blessing to be able to have this here special thanks to sds and dyna we were able to get as i said i think nearly 30 families with a good good load of firewood so that was a it was a fun thing to do things i like about it over the other one i've already mentioned them the diesel engine the power the hydraulic ramp all of those things just heavier better construction just more thoughtful things the things i don't particularly like uh is i think that the harvester bar may be a little bit underpowered or maybe i just didn't change the chain often enough maybe i just gotta figure you're gonna change the chain when you're running it that hard i mean let's be honest we cut 20 cords of wood in one day and we went through uh four chains if you were cutting 25 20 25 cords of wood with a chainsaw how many chain sharpenings would you have right so it's not it's not a miracle machine it's limited by a sharp sharp blade right all tools are so that's more of a personal observation i guess it shouldn't really be a fault but it's a wonderful machine i think the thing that was really telling to me was a whole bunch of people came out from the community and lion's share of the older guys that lived and work here and grew up here worked in the timber industry and they're no they're very familiar with logging equipment they're very familiar with diesel engines i mean they're they get it trust me and they all came out and walked around and they were all very impressed and and commented on how nicely it was built and how well it worked and i had several guys that guy yesterday asked me if he could rent it you know cut his he thought oh i got a log truck i'll just get a load of logs and rent that thing from you and i'll cut firewood for 10 years you know i said i wish i could it doesn't belong to me but uh but it was fun it was a great experience maybe it's something we can do annually if dinah wants to continue to support us in this but we we really enjoyed it and had a good time so special thanks to that and to those who came out and volunteered that's enough may god bless you guys please keep us in your prayers and we'll see you all on the next video
