[Music] thank you [Music] released in 2017 the Tesla Model 3 remains to be one of the best selling sedans on the market today it was supposed to be a super cheap reasonably priced electric car but due to budget cuts and blah blah blah that never happened and then we have the mono 3's bigger cousin the model y announced in 2017. this is Tessa's best-selling vehicle on the market today and it makes sense it's honestly the most versatile and practical car you can get in the Tesla lineup and the crazy part is it looks just like the model 3 only a little taller they did this on purpose to make production easier however with a starting price of forty seven thousand dollars versus sixty thousand dollars for the standard range rear wheel drive Tesla Model Y which isn't available yet so let's just say sixty six thousand dollars for the long range model the question a lot of people ask is which one should you get well today we're gonna see if the model 3 is a great buy and if it's still a good option for people out there or is it better just to spend a little bit more money and get the model Y what is up guys it's Chris ever to Chris and welcome back to my channel make sure to hit that like button and subscribe for more awesome videos with the super simple minimalist interior with a single looking giant iPad screen the model 3 interior is now the new standard in all other car manufacturers you're either Gonna Love or hate the interior you have a single piece of wood or if you have the white interior you have like a white plastic piece here and now with the new model 3 and model wise you get an updated interior so the dash kind of runs along the door which is really cool it kind of gives it a more streamlined look there aren't any noodle tool vents or buttons no cooled seats just heated in the front and rear you also get a heated steering wheel as well as now heated wiper blades in super cold weather there's USBC plugs for charging and you get a super tiny glove box inside the glove box is where you'll find a USB stick for Sentry mode which is Tesla's built-in dash cam system you have a much more clean looking interior with Alcantara wireless charging in the front with the model 3 you'll also get a nice dual piece glass roof and the interior either comes in black or white what makes Tesla so unique is everything you ever needed for your car is located on the giant screen now I have a separate beginner's video if you are first getting a Tesla so be sure to check that out it takes I'm getting used to but after you get used to it it's pretty much second nature now even though it's a mid-sized sedan it works great for tall people and I'm six foot three and it gives you plenty of Headroom it actually feels similar to the model Y and leg room is pretty sufficient as well I can bring my feet all the way back I'm super comfortable right now but we're gonna see how uncomfortable the passengers are in the rear all right so now we have the seat all the way back we're gonna see if I can fit in here I mean it's not the most comfortable I'm scuffing up these nice new trim but I could actually fit my legs definitely touch however it's not the most uncomfortable and I still have plenty of Headroom sitting all the way up my head hits the top but it's comfortable I can kind of slouch back a little bit and I'm okay also because it's lower I have to kind of go into the car whereas the model y just kind of sit into the car which is a little bit different you also have the ability to fold down both rear seats for extra storage space and all you have to do is press the lever inside here pull it up and the seats fold down and I believe they added this feature in 2021 but this is actually a June 2022 build the trunk of the model 3 is automatic but now that it's automatic you can go and open that up inside the model 3 trunk you have 23 cubic feet of storage space with the seats down it has two compartments so we have a piece here and then it just has a pretty solid space here I mean it's not the biggest definitely not as big as the model and why but it's doable you also have this one that's semi-deep it's not too deep because I mean the model 3 isn't that big however that's it so as you know everyone loves to go to Costco tons of people have model threes I always recommend the model white because the trunk space but how small is the model 3 trunk space let me see if I can fit inside they're gonna see if I could put some stuff like toilet paper and paper towels in the trunk and see how much space it takes up all right so can I fit is there enough space for me trunk test oh oh yeah I could fit so this is what it's like to be kidnapped huh there we go and it is closed we can press this button here oh a corner press that button it pops out so I'm at Costco doing a nice costume run oh my God not bad so I could definitely fit enough it's small but it's not that small and the model 3's defense these things are gigantic and it barely fits in the model y I think only two fit this is a 27 gallon tote let's see if it closes I know this is like this but okay yeah it doesn't fit did the 27 gallon tote fits in this way this thing barely fits and then I can put the I could squeeze the paper towels in this so it doesn't fit so small chunk space but it's expected with the model 3 and the front and the model 3 isn't that big either although you do get some extra storage space unlike some electric vehicles like the Lexus RZ that doesn't have a frunk I mean how do you have an electric car with no frunk that's whack so now we're in the model y big difference right I mean the only real difference is this dashboard trim this is the older model however in the new model wise you do have the same thing as the model 3 where the dashboard kind of goes up along here however with the older trim it does have a matching color here so for me it's white the only difference with the model Y is you're just higher off the ground literally the seats are the same exact as the model 3 but they just put them on these risers here as far as headspace is concerned you get more headspace with the model y in the front and back you also get more shoulder space and leg room making it much more comfortable with the model y you also have the ability to recline the rear seats slightly and because the trunk is open behind you it offers more interior space you get 34 cubic feet of storage with the rear seats up however with the rear seats down you get more than double with 76 cubic feet of storage the cool thing with the model Y is it does come in a seven seater although the space is mostly for small children I did do a separate video on the seven seater versus the five-seater so check that video out if you're interested in that so one cool thing with the mono wise because it's bigger and you have more space you have the ability to add a HEPA filter something that's only available in Model S and model X models which is perfect for any type of fire or allergies so it's a nice feature to have and something not available in the model 3 and you get a solid piece of glass for the roof for more Headroom as well as better visibility because a model Y is an SUV you get more interior space which is huge Costco runs no problem it can easily fit paper towels toilet paper and a 26 gallon tote road trips are easy if you have Kit to monologue it's a solid choice for car seats strollers and extra storage the front has plenty of space for a ton of stuff like a cooler as well and because it's bigger you have two huge wheel walls in the trunk to add even more storage now let's talk about exterior differences on the exterior Tesla keeps it fairly simple with a few various pink colors with the model 3 you get three different Rim sizes for looks and efficiency there's the 18 inch Aero Wheels the 19-inch Sport Wheels which is the one you're seeing right now and the 20 inch Uber turbine Wheels although I'm super sad they got rid of the older 20 inch gray Performance Wheels because those Wheels were sexy the monster has a ground clearance of 5.5 inches it's definitely lower to the ground so it makes it difficult for tall people or people with back problems to get in and out of the car now what's really cool about the model 3 is it comes standard with their Matrix LED headlights and as you can see these are the Matrix ones it kind of has a darker Hue to it but what really sets it apart is this right here you see that little projector this giant projector is the Matrix headlights and what's awesome about that is in the future when the government allows it to it can offer more safety so you can have your high beams on and you'll know if there's a pedestrian or another car it could segmentally turn off those lights while still keeping the high beams on providing better visibility to the driver as well as not blinding any pedestrians or oncoming traffic which is super cool however with the model y it comes standard with their older projector style headlights which is something I still to this day don't understand why because the Tesla Model 3 and model y share so many similar parts so to make production easier you would think they would use the same headlights however they kept the projector style headlights for the model y long range models but it if you have the model y performance model you will get that Matrix LED headlights as far as visibility goes both offer very similar performance however the model 3 projector headlights do offer a little bit better light output than the model y projectors the model 3 isn't that long either coming in at 185 inches making it super easy to park in your garage it's also 73 inches wide compare that to the model Y which is bigger in every way it's 2.2 inches longer 2.8 inches wider and 7.2 inches taller with the ground clearance of 6.6 this makes it much more comfortable to get in and out now like I said before there is a standard Range model y however it's only being built in Austin Texas and it's in limited quantities however you can get a model y long range with 19-inch Gemini wheels or 20 inch induction Wheels or if you want better performance go with the performance model that comes standard with 21 inch Uber turbine Wheels a carbon fiber spoiler and red brick calipers I mean for two cars that share 70 of body parts it doesn't make sense to keep some parts the same like the tail lights yet the model y has yellow tail lights and the model 3 has red tail lights with the model 3 you get three different models there's a rear wheel drive model 3 with 272 miles now this is probably the best choice for most people because it's the cheapest the cool thing with the rear drive Tesla Model 3 is the batteries are unique with these batteries you can charge it to 100 every day and get the maximum amount of range per charge if you didn't know with most EV cars they don't recommend charging the batteries to 100 every day because it can degrade the battery and reduce the battery health in the long run for long road trips it's fine but for the most part you want to stick between 80 to 90 for daily driving this makes a 358 Mile Long Range model 3 only have about 286 miles with daily driving and it's not something a lot of people think about however with the rear wheel drive model 3 do lose on a few features like the ability to charge at 250 kilowatts charging speeds at superchargers as well as decrease acceleration both of these models can upgrade your wheels from 18 to 19 inches but don't forget it does decrease your overall miles and then there's my tiny Asian wife's favorite model the model 3 Performance she loves how she can zoom on the freeway on-ramp or pass a slow car she also loves the lowered suspension and handling as well as the red brake calipers and spoiler due to the bigger Wheels you do lose some miles with about 315 miles but some may say it's totally worth it with the mono one again there's a standard Range Austin build but it's not available to the general public yet you have the long range which has 330 miles that's the one I have as well as the performance with 303 miles and again think about daily driving like my friend has a monologue performance and he loves the car however he has to commute to La every single day and a lot of times he tells me he can't even go out to eat because he's limited on his range which kind of doesn't really make sense because if he charges his car to 80 that he should still have plenty of miles left to go from LA and back to Orange County no problem like I said before the model 3 and model y are most identical sharing 70 of the same Parts there's not much difference in terms of Hardware you get all the latest and greatest with new software updates making the Tesla better every day controlling the climate and fan position is all done to the screen adjusting your mirrors and steering wheel is again done to the screen there's cool things like Netflix video games fart mode and a Tesla light show wireless phone charging extension mode which is a built-in dash cam where you can even view the footage on your phone away from the car comes standard it also comes standard with autopilot which is cruise control but also does a great job of staying in the lane and you can upgrade to enhanced autopilot and full self driving or get it in a monthly subscription which gives you more features like self Park coming to you in a parking lot and driving on local city streets both the model 3 and model y have a powered trunk but that's about it now a lot of people like my wife love the mono 3. it's small low to the ground has good handling and performance and it does the job for daily driving let's talk the best of the best with the model 3 you get a zippy 0 to 60 time of 3.1 seconds which is crazy fast with the model y you get there in 3.5 seconds which is still fast but honestly when you're in a mile 3 Performance and go to a model y performance you definitely notice the difference but the reality is which is more practical because the model 3 is lowered to the ground your handling is much better so overall the model 3 is quicker and easier to handle but the model y does a great job up as well both of these cars are great choices for anyone out there but let's talk about family and safety which car is safer let's go to my favorite website iihs these tests are so detailed with the 2021 model y was a top safety pick and the 2022 model 3 was a top safety pick it's going good and Superior in all categories so at the end of the day both of these cars are super safe and I've seen articles where model 3 and model wise get into head-on collisions and just walk away with the scratch of course the model Y is bigger so it's more expensive the cheapest mod 3 is still pretty expensive starting at around 47 000 then the long range model 3 is around 59 000. with the performance at about 63 000 the model on the other hand only has two models available with the secret standard Range model with their own batteries built in Austin Texas there's no official price on the Tesla website but it seems that that starts at sixty thousand dollars the long range which is what I have starts at sixty six thousand dollars and the performance starts at seventy thousand dollars so it's a pretty big difference but it's up to you if it's worth it to spend an extra seven thousand dollars for the model y then you get into other small things like white seats or upgraded wheels or autopilot but those are all personal preference so it's all up to you in the end I'm super happy with my choices now I guess I'm a little biased because I have them model y but what I would do is make a list of reasons why you need a car if you have a new family perhaps or do you have dogs also you want to know how long you're going to have the car maybe two years or five years like for us we plan on keeping the model wide for at least 10 years we want the versatility what if we ever move and we love going to Costco so we have to have definitely extra space for those Costco runs we also have dogs so the more room the better I know a ton of people with kids one of my friends used to have a model 3 but he ended up trading it for the model y because it was just easier to put a kid in a car seat or change them if he has to change the diaper it'll model Y versus model 3. with the model y you have more utility you're higher off the ground with all the same features as the model 3. but if using the car for commuting and you just want something to go from A to B the model 3 is a very good choice I say test drive both cars if you can and no regardless of your choice on delivery day you'll be the happiest person alive just make sure to watch my delivery Day video and if you're interested purchase my delivery date checklist it's super detailed and I'll make sure to link it in the description option anyways guys thanks for watching I'll see you guys next time
