throughout minecraft's history there have been many youtubers which have touched our hearts and filled our memories providing us with hundreds of hours of entertainment during the early 2010s and inspiring many of the newer channels we see today however not all of them managed to maintain their spots on the platform not all of them were able to maintain a consistent viewership some may have moved on from minecraft some may have stopped youtube altogether some are still around but these days fly under the radar today we're going to look at some of the most popular minecraft youtubers in history household names which we all know and briefly talk about their history and how their channel is at this current day so let's get right into it but before we do let me give a brief overview of minecraft's popularity and its effect on youtubers so for those of you are unaware minecraft began to decrease in popularity during 2015. this is due to multiple reasons such as the lack of new updates during this year as well as the general interest decreasing in the game over time this dip would continue into 2016 and the new minecraft update at the time being 1.9 changing the pvp mechanics forever certainly didn't help normally minecraft updates caused a substantial spike in popularity but 1.9 was generally disliked by the community due to its pvp changes and as such there wasn't really a spike in popularity continuing into 2017 now and minecraft continues to drop in popularity there were a few updates 1.10 1.11 and 1.12 but none stood out like we see in updates today so once again there was no spark in popularity then during early 2018 minecraft would hit its all-time low since 2011 but starting in late 2018 with the release of minecraft 1.13 a massive update to the game interest was renewed and many youtubers began making minecraft related videos again skyrocketing the game's popularity once more but the youtubers who did this were not necessarily the same youtubers who had been uploading the game for years so throughout minecraft's decreasing popularity during 2015 to 2017 who managed to survive and make it out to the other side well let's talk about the first youtuber on our list now one of the most popular for the time sandy sandy began his channel on november 28 2009 and his first videos which are public are from late 2010 where he built a simple roller coaster in a survival world there would be three parts to this with the final being a short showcase of the finnish roller coaster however going through the wayback machine you can see that he had a few videos which he uploaded even earlier which are no longer public titled minecraft cave adventure it seems that he had even more which i was unable to locate as during mid-2011 he uploaded a celebratory 200th video special which seems to point to the fact that many of his older videos are either deleted or no longer public one reason these videos are no longer publicly available is possibly due to the fact that they contained explicit language throughout late 2010 and 2011 sunday would frequently upload minecraft map playthroughs as well as mod showcases and as you can see some of his old mod showcase videos have millions of views his channel would continue to grow and during 2012 he would hop onto the mini game craze often collaborating with other up and coming youtubers such as skyler's minecraft and deadlocks while also joining team crafted a group of popular minecraft youtubers eventually mini-game content was all he was uploading due to its phenomenal success and during august of 2013 he would hit 1 million subscribers but enough about his history where is he today and did he survive through minecraft's dip in popularity during 2015 well fortunately for sunday while he was primarily a minecraft youtuber his audience watched him for his personality and he did occasionally upload other games with successful viewership while his channel did see a small dip in popularity in late 2014 his channel monthly views and subs would only continue to increase even throughout 2015 and 2016 when minecraft youtubers began to struggle he did take multiple hiatuses from his channel throughout 2017 and 2018 but those were due to personal issues rather than issues with youtube then taking advantage of the rise of fortnite 2017 sunday would jump ship from minecraft and begin focusing primarily on fortnite up until later in 2018 when he would begin uploading minecraft alongside fortnite he would continue this into 2019 occasionally uploading other games and his channel would steadily keep growing in fact some of his most popular uploads are a fortnight these days he still uploads minecraft just in much less frequency and is currently focusing on among us and at the time of this video his show has accumulated an insane 15 million subscribers and his videos often achieve over 2 million views each to say the least he is achieving more success than ever and has made it through some of minecraft's lowest points but the same cannot be said for everybody on this list especially the next youtuber we're going to talk about but before we do consider subscribing if you haven't already no pressure though anyways the next youtuber we're going to talk about is beijing canadian beijing canadian's channel was created during 2010 but that's not where he began his youtube career his first videos would be playing the game runescape and he would upload them on the awesome swords films youtube channel which was owned and created by another youtuber asf jerome in 2008 during this time he would upload many runescape videos including tutorials and gameplay but becoming bored of the game he switched to call of duty during 2011. after his success on the awesome source films channel he moved to his own channel where his first upload would be a vlog and continuing by uploading a variety of other games however in october of 2011 this would all change as he would upload his first ever minecraft video where he attempted to survive minecraft hardcore mode with asf jerome he would continue his minecraft content uploading a skyblock series with other youtubers as well as doing a variety of adventure maps but in early april 2012 he would upload his first ever survival games video and seeing its success would continue to upload more eventually becoming established as a minecraft youtuber from then on he would primarily focus on minecraft minigames becoming one of the go-to youtubers which people would watch growing alongside other fellow youtubers he would hit 1 million subscribers in 2013. his videos began consistently getting millions of views and he was gaining thousands of subscribers daily but then things would begin going wrong during 2014 his channel began on a downward slope and his monthly views and sub growth would continue to depreciate into 2015. throughout 2016 this downwards trend would not stop and then in october of 2016 he would upload a video titled my channel is dead venting about the problems with this channel but things would not improve and by the end of 2017 his monthly views had gone from a peak of 68 million to around 5 million and he began to lose subscribers daily 2018 would be even worse and he began losing thousands of subscribers every month and his views continued dropping and this would follow into 2019 by 2020 he was only averaging about a million views a month and these days his videos struggled to get above forty thousand views significantly less than the millions he is used to getting and at the time of this video he has not uploaded for an entire month it seems that he was unable to adapt to the changing landscape of youtube at the time and his channel being tied so securely to minecraft didn't help either however while beijing canadian has really struggled these past few years the same cannot exactly be said for his partner in crime asf jerome like beijing canadian asf jerome didn't begin uploading on his own channel but rather on the awesome source films channel which he created he started his own channel in mid 2011 after having quite some success on awesome source films he would upload his first minecraft video in august of 2011 a minecraft let's play then only about a month later he would begin playing on a minecraft server with other awesome stores filmed members after the video's decent success for the time he'll continue with minecraft and even had a relatively successful skyblock series but his first breakthrough video was when he showcased the famous temple of notch map jerome would upload a variety of minecraft content through 2012 also adding a bit of bloons tower defenses to the mix but in november of 2012 he would upload one of his most successful videos minecraft hunger games noticing its success he would shift focus to more multiplayer and minigame related videos as well as minecraft maps with other youtubers and began growing quite rapidly until he would hit 100 000 subscribers in early 2013 but his growth did not stop there and eventually he made the complete switch to mini game only content during march and april 2013 and as you can see his channel growth skyrocketed and just a few months later during july of 2013 hit his all-time peak of 37 million monthly views he would continue to grow rapidly and accumulate hundreds of thousands of subscribers every month and six months later in january 2014 he almost broke his peak viewership record now during 2014 and 2015 his channel did see a decline like most other minecraft youtubers but instead of it continuing and eventually rendering his channel dead he bounced back and broke his record for most monthly views with 41 million in september of 2016 one of the worst times for minecraft so what happened well around this time he began frequently recording with a few other very popular youtubers including preston plays lachlan vic star woofles and beijing canadian of course this did his channel wonders and while it did decline a bit it largely steadied out and began consistently getting around 17 to 25 million monthly views a very respectable number and it seems that when minecraft became more popular again so did his channel as in 2019 he only grew larger and then in 2020 he has had some insane months these days he still uploads often and his videos always get upwards of a hundred thousand views so it seems that he made it through the tough times and is still going strong skydivers minecraft was at one stage the most popular minecraft youtuber on the platform racking in millions of views each month his youtube journey like other youtubers we've talked about today also did not begin on his main channel but rather for sky it was on another channel called jinderdemon where he would upload runescape videos it wasn't until february 2011 that he would start his minecraft channel by beginning uploading a minecraft let's play in march of 2011. he would upload various minecraft content throughout this time period later incorporating his girlfriend at the time into his videos and starting the famous inside joke of calling gold ingots butter instead of gold his channel began to gradually grow in popularity throughout 2012 but then in june of that year his channel finally got picked up by the youtube algorithm and he went from about 100k monthly views to 29 million by august his success largely stemmed from the fact that he began collaborating with other youtubers such as deadlocks and venom but also his childish and mischievous personality was adored by his many younger fans his growth would continue into 2013 where he frequently was able to accumulate over 100 million views a month and hitting 1 million subscribers by early 2013. by the end of that same year he had over 5 million subscribers and by early 2014 he had accumulated almost 9 million his channel was growing like crazy faster than any other minecraft channel at the time but its growth would not last forever and seriously decreased by the end of 2014 and continued to gradually decrease throughout 2015 and 2016 alongside minecraft zero decrease in popularity but it could have been fine if you stuck to his guns and soldiered through but unfortunately that did not happen and what did happen was far worse his decrease in popularity would continue into 2016 but due to personal issues related to his girlfriend at the time his mental health was severely impacted and he struggled to keep putting videos out at the same quality that his audience had become accustomed to he made a tweet in 2016 stated that he was done with minecraft which led to quite some backlash and he also began swearing and being more real in his videos while this may seem good his primarily young audience didn't seem to enjoy it and he began losing subscribers daily by late 2016 he was losing large chunks of subscribers every month now it's obvious that his real life issues were taking a toll on him as his normally happy bubbly and lively personality didn't seem to be as evident and he was much more quiet and reserved throughout 2017 things would get worse and worse his views kept dropping and he continued to lose more and more subscribers with every month it was clear he was struggling mentally stating multiple times that he had depression we don't know what went on in his personal life exactly but it seems he wasn't able to get the help he needed and real-life problems kept bringing his mental health down which is very unfortunate fast forward to current day and it's not uncommon for him to lose around 100 000 subscribers every month with the channel only averaging around 2.5 million monthly views substantially less than he was getting years ago these days his uploads struggled to get past 40 000 views and who knows if he was able to seek help for his real-life problems then this may have not been the case but on the bright side he seems much happier and is able to upload a larger variety of content which he wanted to do in the first place so not all is bad for skye our final youtuber for today is dan tdm the biggest and most popular youtuber on this list dan began his youtube career on a different channel called pokemon dan lv45 where he would upload videos related to pokemon cards and even let's plays of some pokemon games he began his minecraft channel in mid-2012 and fittingly his first video is a pokemon mod for minecraft called pokemobs throughout this early time period he would upload many mod showcase videos minecraft update videos and adventure maps he largely flew under the radar however as unlike the other youtubers we talked about today he began his minecraft channel relatively late and minecraft was already oversaturated on youtube around this time however that didn't stop him and over time his subscriber and view count grew and grew and by early 2013 he had begun receiving far more attention managing to accumulate one to three million monthly views then in april of 2013 his channel began blowing up and he went from getting around 1 million views in january of 2013 to almost 80 million in just a year he was gaining hundreds of thousands of subscribers every month and every single one of his uploads was easily getting over 1 million views his growth would not slow down either by january of 2015 he was getting about 200 million views a month an absolutely insane number far more than any other youtuber on this list but the real question was if he would make it through minecraft's low point throughout 2015 he continued to hold crazy high numbers almost breaking 400 million views per month in july and august which was more monthly views than pewdiepie himself at the time he would manage to maintain high numbers into 2016 but they did substantially drop off towards the end of the year likely reflecting minecraft's decrease in popularity but they climbed back up in 2017 and took a big hit towards the end of 2018 but keep in mind he was still getting well over 100 million monthly views which is so difficult to maintain these days it seems his channel still gets crazy viewership easily gaining hundreds of thousands of subscribers every month and getting hundreds of millions of views what's most interesting about dan is that the recent increase in popularity of minecraft didn't really affect him largely due to the fact that he never lost his core audience even through minecraft's worst period however this may be due to the fact that he stopped primarily focusing on minecraft and these days he uploads a lot of among us and a variety of other games so i think dan is a unique case because unlike many of the other youtubers i've covered today it seems as if his channel wasn't really tied to minecraft's popularity and he almost created his own youtube ecosystem entirely separate from the game itself this allowed him to never really lose relevancy and continue making videos without issue but that just about wraps it up for today we talked about some of the most popular minecraft channels of all time and where they are today i couldn't cover them all as unfortunately that would take far too long so i tried to stick with the most popular or notable but if i missed anyone who you think should have been on this list be sure to leave a comment down below if you enjoyed the video please be sure to subscribe and join the discord thank you all so much for watching
