What 'Toy Story 5' Should Be...

[Music] what if I created a Toy Story project that's the question we'll be answering in this video now the Toy Story franchise is one of the most beloved franchises to ever grace the screen historical landmark to the Arc of Cinema possessing the living embodiment of progression the likes of which had never been seen at the time before this series itself has garnered critical and audience Acclaim due to its consistently boundary pushing technical Innovation to its well-written characters outstanding vocal performances throughout the years powerful music and multi-layered generational storytelling the franchise has brought with it creativity and wonder to the minds and hearts of many since its Inception with the third one even being nominated for best picture at the Academy Awards an achievement very few animated films have carried now most recently Disney has greenlit at Toy Story 5. and it got me thinking another Toy Story I mean do we really need one don't get me wrong I love the fourth one but my definitive ending to the series will always be Toy Story 3. now not much is known about the story ahead for Toy Story 5 but it did get me thinking of what I would do if I was running Pixar or I was at Pixar and someone came up to me and told me hey we want you to come up with an idea that keeps the Toy Story franchise alive without connecting it to the primary series directly which made me come up with this video idea in which I'd create a different type of Toy Story project one that I'd like to see developed so join me in this new show called pulp's what if with this episode being entitled Andy's canvas before we delve into this let's do a quick recap of Toy Story and all that's occurred in the franchise Buckle in because this might take a while so let me I'm sorry that's that's the that's the wrong Channel Toy Story is an American Media franchise owned by the Walt Disney company with a franchise centering around toys that unknown to humans are secretly living sentient creatures it began in 1995 with the release of the animated film of the same name which focuses on a diverse group of toys that feature a classic cowboy doll named Sheriff Woody and a modern Spaceman action figure named Buzz Lightyear we start with 1995's Toy Story as it introduces us to the world of Andy's toys LED courageously by Woody a cowboy doll who is Andy's favorite toy when Andy receives a new toy for his birthday a Space Ranger named Buzz Lightyear Woody feels threatened and jealous Buzz doesn't realize he's a toy and thinks he's a real Space Ranger while Woody is pushed to the side as Buzz becomes the new favorite when Woody accidentally causes bus to be lost the two must team up to find their way back to Andy's room before he moves away along the way Woody learns to accept Buzz as a friend and equal and they both learn the value of being a toy and making a child happy which leads us to 1999's Toy Story 2. in the second Toy Story movie Woody is stolen by a toy collector named Al who wants to sell him to a museum in Japan while trying to rescue Woody Buzz and the other toys discover that Woody was the star of a popular TV show in the 1950s and had been a missing part of a set of toys collected by the one who took him Al what it means to other members of his set including Jesse the Cowgirl Bullseye the horse and Stinky Pete the prospector he then has to decide whether to stay with them or return to Andy meanwhile buzz and the other toys tried to save Woody and bring him back home in the end Woody decides to return to Andy's house with buzz and the other toys realizing that his place is with the people who love him which will now lead us to 2010's Toy Story 3. Andy is all grown up and getting ready to go to college the toys are facing the possibility of being thrown away or donated they end up being donated to a daycare center but quickly realize that it's not the paradise they thought it would be the toys are mistreated by Toddlers and the daycare toys themselves they must find a way to escape the daycare and make their way back to Andy's house before he leaves for college along the way they face danger and obstacles and Woody learns to let go of his attachment to Andy and embrace the future with Bonnie the little girl who now owns the toys which will now unconclusively bring us to 2019's Toy Story 4. Toy Story 4 sees Woody and the Gang adjusting to life with their new owner Bonnie when Bonnie creates a new toy out of a sport named Forkey Woody takes it upon himself to make sure Forkey stays with Bonnie and doesn't get lost however during a family road trip Forkey escapes and Woody sets out to find him along the way they encounter an antique store full of vintage toys including Bo Peep Woody's lost love interest now Woody's faced with the choice of staying with Beau and living a life of adventure or returning to Bonnie and being a loyal toy meanwhile buzz and the other toys embark on their own adventure but in the end Woody decides to stay with Beau and the other lost toys while the rest of the gang returns to Bonnie's house Woody learns to let go of his past and embrace a new chapter in his life while the other toys learn to accept that their friend has now found a new purpose now that we're all caught up let's delve into this new project Andy's canvas the pitch the log line reads Andy now a young adult pursues his dream of becoming an animator along the way he struggles with personal relationships academic challenges and finding his creative voice I'm imagining the format of this to be a series and a limited one at that about 10 episodes each running approximately for 30 to 24 potentially depending on like the penultimate episode of the season finale running around 50 minutes and you'll understand why in a second now the premise or like kind of plot outline is Andy having graduated from high school decides to pursue his dreams of becoming an animator as he enrolls in a prestigious school where he meets a diverse group of fellow students each with their own unique talents and personalities Andy struggles to find his footing in this new environment but with the help of his friends instructors and family he learns to navigate the challenges of Academia and create creative expression I'd like to imagine the pitch for a show like this could be BoJack Horseman meets Ratatouille maybe not like super firmly like in the like the adult territory but this could be a limited series potentially onto Hulu aimed at a more teenage to young adult audience now I still want to keep the 3D CGI animation style the same just to keep in visual consistency with what's already been established in the world of Toy Story and I believe keeping the animation style the way it was initially made out to be could help the show stand out from other adult animated contemporaries I would also like the show to be presented in the style of a drama with some mockumentary aspects to it kind of like in the vein of like an animated succession or an animated like Slackers something like that where it's like kind of office meets like Slackers meets like the succession aspect of it with the drama to give it the illusion that we're watching something more real and intimate while giving it a more visceral nature than your usual animated fare season one as Andy begins his semester classes with a teacher who's a veteran in the animation industry he quickly realizes that the competition is fierce and the workload is intense despite the challenges Andy is determined to succeed he spends countless hours in the computer lab honing his skills and perfecting his animations he also makes Friends with several other aspiring animators including Maya a shy of a talented artist and Alex a confident and charismatic Storyteller as the semester progresses Andy faces a few setbacks his first animation project is a disaster as he also has trouble balancing his schoolwork with this part-time job at a local toy store where he still feels a strong connection to his childhood however with the help of Maya Alex his instructor and his supportive family Andy perseveres he learns from his mistakes and gets better with each project and each assignment eventually earning the respect of his instructor and peers along the way he discovers new techniques and styles of Animation that Inspire him to push the boundaries of what he thought was possible at the end of the semester Andy and his classmates present their final projects to a panel of Industry experts with Andy's project being a stunningly beautiful short film that combines traditional animation with Cutting Edge technology the panel is impressed and Andy is offered a coveted internship at a top animation studio within the country as he weighs his options and his potential future he realizes that while the road to success may be a long and difficult one it's worth it to pursue your dreams and never give up now I wanted season one to personify the struggle of how it feels when you're immediately thrusted into your adult life meaning once you graduate high school a lot of people kind of like to assume that you know where you're going and know what you want to do now granted some people are like that I knew people in high school that were like that but very rarely do they really know and go for what they want to go for it's just not as clear as people make it out to be and that's something I really wanted to lean into meaning the anxiety and fear that comes with that immediate need for survival and immediate need for a plan and Direction forward the cast with every show comes a cast and this one is no different now granted in all honesty I think Disney slash Pixar would be the star of this production as they would be the ones to produce it under the Hulu brand meaning I'm not sure if the cast will make or break the series however this is a hypothetical so we're going to cast as if Disney slash Pixar told us the voice actors should be known so we can Market the show around them so let's just say that they told us that so today we'll be doing a bit of casting for Andy his friend Alex Maya and Mrs Stone Andy now as I said earlier in Toy Story we got a little bit of Andy's feeling about him moving to college in Toy Story 3. however we didn't really get to see a lot of him throughout the film just small sprinklings of him being unsure or nervous as he was going off to college now the actor who played Andy in the original movies would be good for the role still but he's kind of aged out of the role for me and I'd like to cast someone to tad bit younger in the role and maybe give that original actor another role to take on the show so for the sake of the video we're going to cast him as someone else other than Andy now for the voice actor I'd want them to bring a little bit of that cynicism and stubbornness but to also be able to put on the charm be humble and feel like the type of guy who really listens when someone speaks to him I want him to be someone who'd be able to show us the empathy and care he feels through his voice for this I felt Logan Lerman would work here now if you've seen him in movies like Fury then you know he can play the anxious and empathetic type but he also has to be that guy that can play the charm and kind of like snarkiness of the character which he played off tremendously in the Percy Jackson series so Logan Lerman as Andy Davis just so I can throw out some honorable mentions some honorable mentions I was considering were Zac Efron because he's kind of like in the Disney Family maybe Joe Carey if Joe Carey would want to do it um and that's kind of like my honorable mentions right now Maya although a more reserved character she should be the type of person everyone could go to as she's not only witty and courageous she has a quiet sense of nurture about her but can also make herself feel known when she wants to she has to be played by someone who could pull off her Reserve side but also lean into her strength and show off her Talent through the way in which she takes care of others and the way she handles her projects the only person I imagined in this role was Melissa Barrera now she's got a few credits to her name but what really sold me to cast her in this role was her performance and in the Heights she plays the type of best friend anyone would want to have but doesn't shy away from letting you know how she feels now through in the Heights she also carries a sense of hesitation in her approach to her craft but she never lets her fear waver her diction in the film I also like the way she was able to guide others in her community and Tackle situations presented throughout the motion picture which is why she'd be so perfect for the role so Melissa Barrera as Maya Hernandez Alex now I want Alex to be the guy who just goes for it with Charisma and personality alone I want his character to be the type of guy who'd rather do it than ask for permission now we'll see him come off as a jerk at times but deep down he's a pretty good guy and he shows that not only in the way he works within the class but also with how seriously he takes the craft of animation for a role like this I'd want someone boisterous who can really Lean Into The Not So admirable traits of this character but also crack open a door as to who this person really is under the surface he has to get us to like him without even trying I felt someone like Aaron Jackson could fit this role to a t now although I haven't seen him in a ton of stuff I have seen him on Disney's Let It Shine and his Superfly performance and I feel like those two things that he brought to those roles could bring a character like Alex to life very well so Aaron Jackson as Alex Henderson Mrs Stone the teacher Mrs Stone is the kind of teacher who is open-hearted but pushes her students to the Limit she does feel a bit cold and distant in the beginning of this series until she really gets to know her students which then leads her to find a way to be that teacher that can really lead them to Greater Heights and stronger sites we should be able to see the wear and tear of the industry has taken on her to a point but not in a cynical way but in a more so she's definitely been put through the ringer and knows a thing or two kind of a way so for something like this we need an actor that can really lean into those isolated parts of this role but can take attention of the room with just one single word for this role I went with Ming Na Wen whose firm but strong command could do this for Justice from her work in Agents of Shield and most recently in the book of Boba Fett we've seen her play both roles in these two properties and I have full faith she could do it again with a role like this yeah well I have a PhD in physics from Berkeley I work so Ming Na Wen as Mrs Stone season two now if we were to reach a season two I think I would primarily make it about his internship with his friends and then him potentially not enjoying the internship and starting his own company um his own animation company similar to the way the people at Pixar actually did once they all met and things like that another storyline I would introduce would be with Andy's father as he's always seemed to be an absent present within the primary franchise and I would love to see an explanation on what happened to him and Andy's mom so let me know if you guys would want a continuation of this series and that is my pitch for a spin-off Toy
