hey everyone your local man child playing with legos here i recently got all the lego mario sets and by that i mean most of them because the boomer belt set decide to backorder and it's still not here thanks lego anyway i was fiddling around with mario and all the things his chest does and i came to a conclusion i'm making a stupid challenge with all these legos how many coins can you get with lego mario because we're all just dying to know right so believe it or not the answer is much more complex than you would expect that's because the things that mario interacts with all have different variables and different amount of coins are collected but let's start from the top you cannot see your coin counter or really count them without a timer and the only way to start that is to use the pipe you're given a 60 second timer to work with there's also a flagpole which when scanned in stops the timer entirely originally i thought i would lose my collected coins when i didn't hit the timer but it turns out i still get my coin count without the flagpole so that means the flagpole is useless to us but what do all of these enemies give us let's start figuring that out because it's surprisingly complicated goombas however are easy to keep track of they simply give us one coin it should also be noted that you cannot spam the goomba for loads of coins the coin only counts when it appears on mario's chest this applies for almost every interactive object but we'll get to that in a bit monty moles are also one coin and the same goes for fuzzies swoopers fireballs and cheap jeeps the next category is the three coin group koopa troopas are interesting because you have to stop on them twice just like in the actual game there's also these two and three blocks which both give you three coins as well i'm missing the one block as it's lost to my pile of legos but it probably functions similarly to these ones oh and by the way it should be noted that once you get three coins from one of these enemies attacking them again will only grant you one coin when it comes to yoshi toad and toadette i get a solid five coins and if i talk to them again it's three coins instead of just one i also get five coins from this spider web dry bones under a tree and 10 coins from a bridge door pokies can give you over 10 coins but you have to hit them while on this platform with a hammer which can be a bit messy the baubom is really interesting because you can farm coins before he blows up i managed to somehow get 20 out of him on an attempt but consistently get around 10 to 12 coins you have to be careful though to not be near his qr code when he blows up or you'll actually lose all the coins you accumulated he's a bit of a wild card that is also able to double his coin count for what is seemingly random i honestly don't 100 understand his behavior yet but boy oh boy things get interesting with the bosses and there's several of them by stopping on bowser jr five times you end up getting 10 coins so even though it takes a while to get these coins this method is definitely faster than getting one or three coins at a time stomping on king boo seven times rewards you with 12 coins king womp takes six stomps and you get six coins which after fighting king boo is a bit of a rip-off now the parata plan is insane because with one stomp you get 10 coins that has some serious potential going forward the thwomp takes 5 stomps and you get 10 coins and finally we have bowser the king of the koopas takes 10 massive hits and you get 15 coins out of him the last enemy for us to check is the regular boo and uh well we actually don't get any coins if we try to step on him mario just gets scared away which is kind of strange since we can take out king boo but i digress there's also some yellow white and brown platforms that give you coins by simply moving this is completely rng based and it's really not worth the time commitment i tried this out for the full 60 seconds but couldn't even break 50 coins total so we're just gonna ignore them for the time being the cloud platform is a bit different because when i move around on it i seem to get coins more consistently but i'm also stuck on this platform so i can't imagine it'd be very useful and now onto our last category of items and that is all the blocks they are by far the most complex items to work with and you'll see why in a minute the mushroom block gives us a mushroom which sounds obvious but here's what's strange about it when you hit the flagpole you get three coins but you only get this bonus with the flagpole i tried getting the mushroom and stomping on a goomba to see if i get extra coins from that but i still only got one i happen to have two mushrooms so i tried hitting one and then the other but you're only allowed to use one mushroom per timer i tried a tactic to potentially abuse this power-up after hitting the mushroom i sent mario to a red block and then back to the mushroom the idea was that mario would lose the mushroom after touching the lava but it turns out he never actually loses the mushroom i guess mario is just ultra powerful in lego form i don't know lastly i tried stepping on the mushroom and just letting the timer ran out and can confirm that you do not get the mushroom unless you actually hit the flagpole so for now we're probably just gonna avoid the mushrooms entirely because the extra three coins likely aren't worth it the pal block seems to be completely useless it plays the pal block sound effect and nothing happens at all besides getting one coin when you spam so let's move on to the p block next you get coins by simply shaking mario you're supposed to just jump here but shaking is a lot more effective it seems to be completely random when it comes to how many coins you'll get from shaking but i found you can easily get around 30 to 40 coins from a p block next up is the star block this is by far our most useful block in the entire set with the stars everything that gives you coins multiplies all the weak enemies like the goombas and swoopers gives us two coins now and what's great about the next tier of enemies is none of them require multiple stomps now the koopas and dry bones go down in one hit and give us six coins the womp 12 coins thwomp bowser jr and piranha plant 20 coins king buu 24 coins in bowser 30 coins even though the regular boo couldn't die before we can now get 12 coins out of him what's kind of lame though is the two and three blocks do not double in coins so this is another set of blocks we're likely not going to use for the run the bobbum only nabs us 10 coins so while you can get them faster now you're typically going to get less without stars here's the catch with the star power up you can only get these double bonuses one time per timer that's the thing about these stars is that they don't last very long so you have to pick very carefully on what to step on and you can only collect a new string of coins once the initial set is complete so if i hear bowser's coins being collected i can't move on to the piranha plant until the coin sound stops the pal block and pblock do absolutely nothing when you have stars in case you were wondering next up is the timer block and it's pretty awesome because it gives us an additional 30 seconds however it can only be used once per timer so it's not like you can just spam it and get infinite coins until mario's batteries die and last but not least we have the question mark block this is the big rng of the speed run you can get multiple things from this block including stars one coin five coins ten coins an extra 15 seconds are a mushroom optimally we want to get the 10 coins but the time bonus and stars are also great to get here's what's crazy about this block though even if you've already used your star or timer block one time you can still get additional time and an additional star through the question mark block even stranger you can collect two sets of coins at the same time so let's say if you hit the question mark block and the piranha plant block they won't cancel each other out and you can basically multitask your coin collecting and believe it or not we're not done yet as each dlc costume changes how mario works fire mario gets a handful of coins by simply flicking mario as if he's actually throwing fireballs propeller mario gets you coins if you jump and then wave him side to side this method is pretty inconsistent and really doesn't work well at all builder mario gives you coins by just stepping on stuff but it only works for a little bit cat mario on the other hand is broken as hell by simply mashing the ground sideways you'll constantly get coins with this method on my first attempt i managed to get over 100 by just tapping the side of my desk but that's the thing you literally have to be sideways mario can actually tell which way he's facing so i'm not sure how practical this could be in runs in case you were wondering the sets that i'm missing aren't of much benefit i don't have access to most of the dlc character packs and i'm also missing the shy guy and tiki hat thingy most of these enemies would only give me around one to five coins a piece so i have all the big coin icons that i need that was a lot to cover but now comes the real challenge what is the most optimal way for us to collect coins well i think i figured out how here was my best attempt [Music] wow [Music] oh my god 372. okay so 372 coins let's go over how this was done first things first was to activate the timer immediately and get that 30 second bonus i got the star next and aligned bowser and king boon next to each other so i could take them all out in one hit and get the 30 and 24 coins from them next was the small boot right before the star timer ran out and hitting the question mark block in hopes of getting the second star you can only get stars in a run twice so i was lucky enough to get it and grab the womps thwomps and bowser jr's coins i took care of the piranha plant last since he already takes one hit and then got the p-block coins after that the p block took a while to get used to but i started to figure out the correct rhythm to gain the most coins next was the toadette toad and yoshi coins i basically got eight from each of them since it's relatively fast afterwards i got the spiderweb coins the bridge coins and the rest of it was up to the question mark block giving me good rng i needed to at some point get the 15 second bonus and hope that i don't get mushrooms from the question mark block after several attempts at this run i found it was best to just ignore the goombas and fireballs because they take too long to get coins i was getting more coins by just going back and forth with the question mark block and jumping on the side as cat mario and that is how i got all of those coins if anyone is able to beat this time then i'd love to see what you come up with but that's pretty much all i got for you today i hope you enjoyed this video and thanks a bunch for watching i'll see you on the next one and take [Music] care
