What Happened To Everyone Who Joined The Guardians Of The Galaxy?

[Music] the guardians of the galaxy began all the way back in the 1970s and have just been kicking around the marvel cosmic universe ever since their books would get cancelled on and off their teams would change in a dime and that means we've had some truly dramatic lineup changes over the years all of them interesting to look at so strap yourself in and get yourself a snack because this one is gonna be a great big yarn i'm ewan this is what culture comics and here's what happened to everyone who joined the guardians of the galaxy but before we begin i have something i'm really excited to 18th and just to show you some of the cards that you can actually get in the app we'll be featuring them throughout the video too number 30 yondu the original guardians of the galaxy look nothing like how they do in the movies almost no other members you're familiar with being on the team all except of course for yondu odonta yondu is obviously still around in the marvel universe of course but his days of headline and the guardians are long behind him now that james gunn has established a more iconic roster for the team and killed him off in the movies so you know awkward number 29 star-lord aka peter quill star-lord was actually introduced nowhere near the guardians instead getting his own black and white comic written by steve englehart but to make a long story short after the event annihilation star-lord was bumped up to a more prominent role in marvel cosmic due to being a major player in said storyline as such dan abnet keith giffin and andy lanning adapted him into their reboot of the guardians of the galaxy alongside a new team many of whom you'll likely recognize a lot about star-lord was different from the movie version years later that we're more familiar with but after the movie landed the character was given a soft reboot to more resemble his film counterpart number 28 gamora everything you know about her from the movies applies to her comics equivalent despite a few details being left out the essentials are there she's the adopted daughter of thanos has since garnered her reputation as being the deadliest woman in the galaxy and she runs with the guardians partly out of it being the right thing to do but also because she just likes being around them number 27 rocket raccoon what was once considered a punchline of a character alongside well most of the other characters on this list actually is now one of marvel's biggest breakout characters well if you look at the big timeline of the team's history he actually hasn't been part of the team for that long in the grand scheme of things but when dan abner added him to the rebooted roster rocket has stayed there ever since he's become so synonymous with the team helped by his breakout appearances in the guardians films that no one would dare take him off the roster now number 26 groot groot's origins are weird he was first introduced in tales to astonish number three and was actually a creation of stan lee larry lieber and jack kirby he uh did not go places like the other characters introduced in that comic line not for a while at least groot basically went bye-bye for decades after this one comic until he was brought back of course for dan abner's guardian's run and eventually joined the guardians as their equivalent to chewbacca from this moment forth he was the lovable loyal guardian of the galaxy we all know and love today number 25 drax the destroyer well it's true that drax's origins are pretty convoluted in that way that only classic marvel cosmic stuff can be shortly before the annihilation event drax was rebooted into his own mini-series turning him from the strong man he had spent his first decades being into a cunning assassin with a code of honor that we know today number 24 mantis another super obscure pick from the bronze age of comics for the dan abner guardians was mantis surprisingly this is easily more the most changed characters from page to screen all the way down to her powers see in the comics mantis is not an empath she's a precoc meaning she can see the future through cosmic awareness the abner run did a lot more with this than others as mantis knew right from the beginning that while the team was going to betray them and that the consequences would be dire but that telling the truth would actually make things worse in the long run so she had to keep her mouth shut number 23 quasar there are actually quite a few versions of quasar to search through fortunately there's only one version of this hero that's relevant to the guardians and that is of course the current heavy hitter of the team filavel if you think most legacy superheroes have it bad try being the carrier of the legacies of both the original quasar and the original captain marvel as a result of these two legacies filler is easily one of the most powerful people who was ever associated with the guardians number 22 adam warlock adam ran with the guardians for a long while before doing what he does best that is to say disappearing for long gas structures of time he's been back here and there since then but it's safe to say that his days running the guardians are long behind him barring any kind of huge change to the marvel status quo which is pretty unlikely number 21 kiddie pride after a while the constant bickering and two steps forward three steps back of human mutant relations can really wear down a girl so it's no surprise that kitty joined up with the guardians to get away from it all hell for a while there she even took up the mask and guns of star-lord leading the team while quill was indisposed for various reasons number 20 the thing ben grimm frankly joining the guardians was a dream come true for ben grimm seeing as how on earth he's regarded as either a celebrity a punchline or a monster but in space he's about as normal as they come ben flourished with the guardians becoming the team's flash gordon kicking alien bad guy ass and charming every woman he came across of course no member of the fantastic four can stay away from said team forever and ben eventually grew homesick fiance street and his best bud read so he would return to earth number 19. nikki nikki is a space traveling pyrokinetic from 31st century mercury she came back in time and space to escape a cataclysm that claimed the lives of her people and joined it with the guardians because they were the first ones to offer her a ride she's presumably still alive but there's little if any chance of her ever coming back to the guardians expect that to become a theme going forward number 18 major victory one of the original four guardians of the galaxy alongside yondu and two other characters major victory is definitely a lot more important a character than a lot of the others but he's still pretty damn obscure in his own right of course this wouldn't be the original guardians if it wasn't needlessly complicated to the point of absurdity major victory is actually a mutant but not just any mutant but a mutant from an alternate version of earth earth 691 to be precise and is the alternate version of this other x-men character that you've definitely never heard of named justice number 17 charlie 27. before drax saw groot the muscle of the guardians of the galaxy was charlie 27. with the original idea of the guardians being representatives from different planets teaming up to protect the galaxy from evil it only makes sense that someone of charlie 27's uh stature would be the representative of jupiter like the other guardians we last saw him in the comic guardians 3000 but seeing as how that comic didn't sell amazingly well that might be the last time we hear from the guardians original lovable bruiser for quite some time number 16. martin x martin x stands out for two reasons the biggest of course being his sleek crystalline design that can make him stick out from even the largest crowd of heroes but also for being the member of the original guardians who actually tried to think through his problems instead of just hitting them until he went away like with the other members of the original guardians besides yondu we don't hear much out of martinex which is a shame given how his design is legit impressive number 15. starhawk our good buddy starhawk is the result of the joining between husband and wife staccar in a letter of the house of god but hold on there we don't mean joining in that way we mean they literally do a fusion dance kind of thing and join together into starhawk it's quite steven university starhawk is two from a character concept to stay gone for long so hopefully we'll get some more fun with the greatest of the original guardians of the galaxy number 14. firelord have you ever wondered how unstoppable a marvel superhero team could be if they actually had a former herald of galactus shacking up with them well to find it out look no further than firelord firelord was easily one of the most powerful people to ever call himself a guardian of the galaxy with firepowers that make the human torch look like a candle in a hurricane of course his tongue with the team had to come to an end otherwise most guardian stories would be over pretty quickly number 13. replica replica is a skrull as well as an acolyte of the church of universal truth and yet displayed a decline gentle soul that only resorted to violence when she felt it was necessary we last saw her with the spin-off team galactic guardians but unfortunately have not heard much since number 12 talon talon is what you get when you have a writer who like every writer in the 90s it would seem wanted to just write wolverine all day the only thing not stereotypically marvel in the 90s about talon is the mane of silky luxuriant hair which just looks out of place than the rest of him but anyway talon was a member of the guardians for a short time but the guardians eventually left him when they realized his edgy attitude was more annoying and dangerous than helpful number 11. phoenix giroud grew up on new haven a planet inhabited solely by mutants when his planet fell under peril he found himself chosen by the phoenix force to be its newest wielder with its power he handily defeated the invaders and later of course joined up with the guardians of the galaxy but this is the phoenix we're talking about so obviously this wasn't sustainable eventually phoenix began losing his mind to the sheer power he wielded like all those before him and so pulled away from the guardians for their own safety number 10 spirit of vengeance spirit of vengeance is one of the lesser known incarnations of ghost rider because he's on the guardians of the galaxy so of course he is his alias kind of sounds like the latin they put underneath wali coyote's name it's waleedus ottolicus member of the church of universal truth and enemy to autocorrects everywhere he left the church for the guardians when he found himself at irreparable moral odds with his fellow believers number nine bug bug the sole remaining reminder of marvel's awesome old micro node series was one of the guardians that was supposed to make it into the james gunn movie that had to be cut for time bug was always the charming goofball of the team always having a quip and a joke at the ready to lift the team spirits he's still around of course but his time with the guardians is long behind him number eight jack flagg despite the truly hilarious hair and the lack of any powers jack proved himself a capable guardian through sheer cunning and a bravery that often boarded on suicidal this of course makes his end all the more tragic when he was punted out a helicopter by nazi captain america number seven cosmo the space dog the abnet guardians held their hq in nowhere which is why it keeps showing up in the guardians movies cosmo like rocket is a normal earth animal in this case a dog obviously made more intelligent after his choke to the stars even after he left the team and the book cosmo was never really forgotten by the guardians universe since it's pretty hard to forget a very good dog that can talk back at you number six moon dragon moon dragon's whole deal is being the daughter of drax and an actual space dragon in humanoid form what i said about her time on the avengers the better but a time with the guardians is where she really found her time to shine just one example being her tumultuous and compelling relationship with felavelle of course like everyone on the abnet team her time with the guardians came and went but she still makes appearances in future books and has remained a mainstay in the marvel universe ever since number 5. gina drake gina drake named after the co-creators of the guardians gene colon and arnold drake was an earth precock that was captured by the original big bad guy of the series the badoon to be sold into slavery fortunately she was saved and later recruited by the guardians aiding them on many adventures number 4 iron man believe it or not yes one of marvel's biggest heroes actually ran with the guardians for a while iron man joined the team after the guardians came to earth to help fight off barros's latest evil scheme to wipe the planet off the star map the best part about him being on the team was seeing one of the smartest men in the marvel universe be rendered a caveman in comparison to the tech the guardians used to wash the dishes let alone fight evil but in true tony stark fashion instead of feeling emasculated he was like a kid in a candy store utterly entranced and fascinated with every piece of tech he found in his adventures with the guardians number three angela being an angel that once served in the court of the almighty it goes without saying that during her time on the guardians angela was the muscle of the group becoming murder besties with gamora and adding a dry blunt humor to the team dynamic her role in the marvel universe has only grown since their time with the guardians and with look this heroine will start seeing movie deals soon number 2. ant-man scott lang scott lang was a brief member of the all-new guardian into the galaxy team from 2018 hitchhiking on their ship at a secret empire to hide from the shame of what he had done during that event the guardians deciding they could use a man of lang's skills welcomed him with open arms but of course this was short-lived as lang soon left the team and bummed around nova corps space for a while before returning to earth and number one agent venom flash thompson hey remember flash thompson the generic bully that was always hounding peter parker in high school well after he grew the hell up he turned out to actually be a really cool guy and an awesome guardian of the galaxy after losing his legs in the war on terror flash was recruited into a government project known as rebirth 2.0 where he was bonded with the symbiote this gave him the ability to recreate his legs and start working as agent venom after the guardians had their very first crossover with the spider-man books flash joined them and worked as the guardian for a long while before breaking off to form the agents of the cosmos redefining the history of the symbiotes in the process currently flash is dead killed at the hands of the red goblin during the go down swinging storyline but hey he was an amazing guardian of the galaxy you
