how do you make money on the side i wrote a fantasy novel it took 15 years i missed a lot of television i believe i have sold 11 copies edit thank you so much to all of you who commented or messaged messaged me god blessed internet edit too hello everyone i'm not sure if i'm doing this right my redick knowledge is woeful or if anyone will see this but i wanted to let people know that i have just it really means a lot to me shoveling snow the amount of money some people will pay for you to shovel their sidewalk and driveway is incredible i started shoving snow on the side three years later i had two trucks six employees and 900 driveways now i'm a software developer life is strange that name again is mr plow i play piano for things like wedding ceremonies corporate events cocktail hours christmas parties and receptions and just recently i got cast in a pilot for a tv show which i hope will get picked up i work for some really wealthy people who regularly throw away old but perfectly good things i proceed to sell their trash on ebay craigslist cleaning evicted homes i did it for my landlord during high school and college ten dollars an hour under the table i now have a strong stomach carpentry plumbing and flooring skills it sucks when you find used condoms or tea on the walls but hey i score some neato stuff that people leave behind i also did private housekeeping for some wealthy families in college as well same rate plus they would give me small bonuses for holidays and such edit you'll are so concerned that i only charge ten dollars an hour i was a teenager at the time and i come a severely depressed area of the country this thread is about making money on the side not make a living off it i work through a corporate housekeeping company now and i only make seven dollars 55 an hour i fix iphones and other broken screens as another side job and i over priced out the ass for that housekeeping was merely another thing to do i fix fence and work with cows nebraska life i contract out to inspect welds on construction sites make about as much in two days on the weekend as i do during the week at my actual job edit thanks for all of the questions and comments always good to see so many people take interest in a trade like welding the industry needs more of you my dad and i deliver hot tubs for a small pool company we have a special trailer that makes it super easy people buy these six thousand dollars plus hot tubs that way upwards of one thousand pounds and then realize they can't deliver it themselves that's when we come in and charge two hundred dollars for an easy one or three hundred dollars if it has to go on its side we also remove people's old hot tubs oftentimes they think it's beyond repair so they pay us to get rid of it we then fix it and resell it it's become quite the money maker sounds like an honest day's work my wife is a soap maker i was skeptical of homemade soap at first but after trying it i couldn't go back i didn't even know my skin was dry until it wasn't anymore it also lasts forever and smells pretty nice i buy old wine barrels and convert them into furniture and sell for cash doesn't make huge amounts but every bit helps and as my wife says at least it is a self-funding hobby i teach quinceanera wolsen surprise dance routines basically i teach 15 year olds how to dance for their mexican coming of age party get like 1k a month out of it i own an online store i am currently losing 30 dollars per month i buy cars that have repairable problems or at auction coz that are dirt cheap basically i fix them up clean them up and get them purring like they just drove off the lot then i sell them for much more than i paid and invested in parts i flip like two or three a month sometimes i've made over one dollar zero zero zero on more than one occasion one time i made like three dollars zero zero zero but i got a ridiculous deal on the original purchase when i was younger i would rent an apartment or house that was bigger than i needed typically a 3-4 bedroom place i would use one of the smaller rooms and rent the rest out i would get permission from the landlord to sublet the rooms and would have 10 and sign a month-to-month lease in almost all cases the rent from the extra rooms covered the rent for the apartment or house and sometimes put extra cash in my pocket as i got older i rented larger places until i bought my house real example five bedroom house three upstairs plus two baths two downstairs plus one really big den playroom and a large bathroom which tenants shared he shared the kitchen and had two fridges i bought this house and the mortgage was one thousand six hundred and fifty dollars i rented out the three downstairs rooms for five hundred dollars five hundred dollars and nine hundred dollars for a total of 1 900 now that was a 250 dollar mo profit and we lived in the three upstairs bedrooms for free edit clarified things a bit i do a bit of tutoring pays pretty well 30 pounds an hour sometimes but you work more hours than you're paid for prep travel and mostly the kids ts so it's pretty boring disheartening i also work a few hours a week at a food co-op they pay terribly but it's fun and a good cause also do charity stuff and pay gets topped up with funny looking or bruised veg get some stock and some beans you've got the stew going i sell plasma olade is a future i'm a c developer by trade shamefully on the side i work with php i work as an audio to text transcriber on the weekend it's self-employed and i work from home i don't earn huge amounts and it's pretty tedious not ever having a day off but it can add up to 80 pounds a week or so which really helps kids don't run up those student overdrafts i make films for children's parties get given a particular theme star wars was the last one and rich parents who just want to distract their children for an afternoon pay me to make a film with their kid and said kids friends the kids love it the parents can relax whilst i do all the work with another person and they get a cool little 7-10 minute film at the end of it all making them look like a jedi knight or a mini james bond i had a friend who used to sell alaskan land over the internet for 25 an acre he made around 800 which is pretty impressive i think people would tell him what kind of area they wanted then he would find a place and send them coordinates and a certificate of land i'm also fairly positive this was a scam because i don't know how it couldn't be edit certificate of land seems legit i'm a party princess i dress up as disney princesses with minor alterations and such to avoid getting a cease and desist letter from disney and entertain kids at parties you kind of have to be at least a little good with kids and have activities planned and know your character inside and out but yeah i'm basically a group of children's new god for an hour or two and i make 50.70 an hour it's pretty cool i also go to yard sales buy stuff that will sell shoes accessories antiques and sell it on ebay that brings in anywhere from 100 600 a week edit so i guess this is my ridic claim to 15 minutes fame so far delhi did i buy rare books and sell them online sometimes i just buy them on ebay and immediately resell them on ebay for more money this used to be my money on the side but i quit my job three four-wheeler or a tractor in the middle of nowhere basically they all have these huge ass houses with long-ass driveways but no means to blow them 10 bucks a drive and i feel like i'm ripping them off since i also ask for free reign to sled all over their property takes me maybe 10 minutes good lord folks i'm not a goddamn idiot i approach them with the price and the promise i won't get the cops called on me for trespassing so i can snowmobile all over the place i also like helping my neighbors and community and they are in turn helpful and appreciative of me i'm not being taken advantage of a trespassing finds like 250 dollars and i negate that with ten minutes of my time for which i get paid ten dollars ten dollars they charge around fifty dollars to eighty dollars for a driveway around here where do you live and will you please come to boston this week when we get two feet of snow i became an elected government official basically a member of a town council of a teeny tiny town didn't even have to run for office because there weren't enough people to fill the required council seats i get about five dollars six k per year for about four hours a week every other week all from about six zero zero p eight zero zero p during a couple of week days about two hours a week average requirements have to live in the town have to make it to meetings as a side note i could never get elected in a real election my political and religious affiliations do not match the prevalent leanings and beliefs of the town at all but when i'm the only one raising my hand to participate no electric bill i have an llc and i have contracts with a few small businesses to work on their servers networks pc ztc i have a monthly fee that covers up to a certain amount of time after that time they are billed hourly i write top 10 lists for a site called listverse com they pay 100 a list and haven't rejected a single list i've sent so far i used to write for the comedy site cracked combat list verse pays better and all readers do on cracked his [ __ ] about every little thing in an article writing short stories novellas to post on kindle you know those keep calm and posters that reddit hates yeah i make design and sell those my last two vacations were funded by these etsy is fantastic punches carbine fox in the mouth throwaway account i do other people's desk jobs for them with more and more jobs being telecommute i just work multiple jobs from home at the same time imagine working a desk job where you spend all day on riddit and very little time working now imagine if that was a telecommute job where you worked from home every day now imagine if you could pay someone else to do that job for you possibly only being pulled in once every few weeks for a question and paying off a portion of your salary that's what i do i take people's jobs off their hands they keep their benefits and a few bucks an hour and go do something else with their life i babysit their job use auto clickers and anti-idlers to make them look active chat programs watch emails maybe do some actual work now and then etc it's basically office space at home several times simultaneously what started off as a side job doing this once is now a full-time gig i will have paid off all my debt minus my mortgage in six months and my wife will be able to quit her job by summer i don't even earn money on the main i tutor business calc students in college i have no degree at all but i took the class once and sat through another time just to have a huge grasp on it business calc is usually a course business majors have to take and most of them are not overly confident in calculus so i just take advantage of business majors that don't know calc i charge forty dollars an hour minimum two hours and have at least two students a night it started as a way to make side money and now it's all i do i make dollar sign 900 a week i buy vintage jewelry at rummages and estate sales and sell it on ebay the best find the date was a gold bracelet that sold for over 200 profit i bead jewelry and sell it for 10.50 plus a piece online i make roughly 100 300 in extra cash a month nice try irs i import small quantities of items off aliexpress and resell them locally on craigslist or lx i live in a small third world country where people don't know how to order online amazon won't ship here and there are lots of things that aren't available in stores i also bring back small high value items when i go to the us and resell them like used cell phones or gp says i send japanese candy on a subscription basis to people abroad i live in japan i started doing it in addition to apps i had written but those didn't do so well and this side thing ended up being my main thing the perk downside when trying to diet is that i always end up with piles of candy in my apartment if you visit i can offer as much candy as you can eat since this will hopefully get buried i write furry themed smart on a site kydex gun holsters and knife sheaths i've just about made back enough to cover the startup new tools materials dollar sign 350. i just like working with my hands and creating things that i and others want need or use pretty and exciting but babysitting i work in it at school so it's pretty easy to pick up sitting gigs on the side i trade bitcoin oh wait that's how i lost all my money on the side i started folding flags at funerals i'm in the national guard and i work with the state honor guard team often the funerals last less than an hour the families are more than greatly appreciative that we show up and i get paid an extra drill day it's meaningful it's appreciated and it pays i posted this same question a month ago and got about 8 up votes not me but my sister she has sex for money and advertises on local classified sites she has no idea anyone knows the whole family knows i have a flock of chickens and i sell or barter eggs fresh free range organic brown or blue eggs are like five dollars dozen at the farmers market or whole foods even selling minor three dollars leaves fifty dollars or so in my pocket after costs i also do gardening in the spring i sell a few started plants and in the summer some fresh herbs what i make from that there is quite a bit but it's probably another 50 month i'm a 30 year old male prostitute i thought you were a cop i do three other things aside from my 9-5 er one i work part-time at a restaurant it's a very popular and always busy semi-casual place where the tips are fabulous because we have a lot of regulars 15-20 hours a week in the papers and i serve as muscle i'm not a big guy so i make do with what i have what i have is a full kit of body armor they are 15 and a beard i usually make 3 000 per run about 5-8 runs a year nothing ever happens as they are usually very cordial about the whole ordeal but i still remain [ __ ] puckered ready every time we repo a plane i wrote an algorithm that finds miscategorized auctions on ebay i run that list through a financial model that predicts the resale value against the minimum bid 95 of the time i get the auction for the minimum bid then i repost the same auction back on ebay with a shorter bid duration and in the right category i then just reroute the shipping to the new buyer been doing this since 2009 invest about 30 minutes a day and make 45 k a year on it i do lots of homework and online classes for saudi students in college papers discussion boards comprehensive exams etc sometimes i am multiple students in the same online course discussing with myself i freelance so really everything i do is on the side money except for the part where i get money for it i drive around and pick up scrap metal sometimes can make decent money i had some guys pick up scrap metal in the houses i was building fifty dollars of copper that runs me three dollars k to replace go to love it there is a man that pays me a few hundred quitter spits in his dinner every few months in the months in between he pays me a little bit too for me setting him tasks edit to add should have put this in past tense at the end of last year after a few years though he realized that the same amount of money he was paying me to turn up with a friend in tow and spits in his food then bid him at you he could get a proper dom to peg him and ash in his mouth and put him on some kind of spinny wheel no hard feeling [ __ ] i own a large central apartment with one room having its own entrance and bathroom i rebuild the apartment to seal of the room built a small kitchenette and i'm renting it out for 750 us dollars a month low average for the location i'm also interested in antiques and often go to thrift shops looking for nice things art nouveau joujin specialization some i keep and some i sell on an auction site like ebay we have locally the most i've earned was around 950 us dollars for a month but normally it is around 2-300 since i go to these shops anyway it's not that much extra effort and i also consider it part of my hobby i teach music lessons at 35 dollars an hour 25 for 30 minutes it's good money and even though kids can be winnie it's still good money i trick people andre did to go on my website and get ad money i average 100 to 200 every quarter edit i have another account for that i cook food for a friend of mine she is gluten free actual celiacs not fat dieting and vegetarian she's also started some diet that massively restricts the amount of fats and proteins she can have oh and this woman hates to cook so for 50 bucks a week i make two big dishes for her that she can have for dinner all week i really love difficult cooking challenges so the job's been pretty fun and it's been a great way to motivate myself to cook healthier and get some extra cash you
