greetings everyone hope all of you are having an absolutely fantastic day I have finally finished my first playthrough of Warhammer 40K Rogue Traer which means I can give all of you a review Rogue Traer was my introduction to the Warhammer universe that so many of you have been talking about and it was a fascinating experience to say the least in addition this is my first time reviewing an alcat game after thoroughly enjoying their last entry Pathfinder Wrath of the righteous this should be a very interesting discussion so I'm looking forward to your feedback in the comments as a reminder here at slander gaming we focus on crpg related content so if that interest you be sure to hit the like button and subscribe for more videos as I always do in my reviews let's kick things off with what I liked about the game the World building is nothing short of phenomenal both of Al cat's previous games have been set in Pathfinder lore and I was concerned this title would feel the same way with the new Cod of paint I am happy to report that is not the case at all Rogue Trader both dramatically and mechanically feels separate from alcat previous titles and I really enjoyed the overall story you play as a rogue traitor which is a human who has been granted the warrant of trade a document that provides you with wealth and power far beyond what most humans have access to this document is granted by the Imperium of man which is a human Empire whose reached spans across the Milky Way galaxy the Imperium enforces rules that perpetuate a very xenophobic and rigid Society the vast majority of humans are used as fodder in war or production to enrich the lives of ruling noble families billions of them are crammed together in deplorable living conditions and few if any of them live to see an old age they are expected to embrace this situation and be thankful for what the Imperium has provided rebelling against the rules of the Imperium in any fashion is punishable by death contact with non-human creatures or xenos as they were referred to in the game is punishable by death interacting with zenos artifacts is also punishable by death even if you just so happen to stumble across a necklace on the ground doing anything other than eating sleeping and breathing exactly when you are told is basically punishable by death the warrant of trade allows the Rogue Trader to be a human who is treated like royalty and excluded from the majority of these rules you are so powerful and Wealthy you don't manage any money or purchase items instead there's a profit Factor rating to track how much wealth you have obtained when visiting a vendor you don't trade coins instead you deal in wealth and influence if the vendor is sufficiently impressed with both values then you just take whatever you want no transaction is done and no coins are provided not only do you gain this lofty position very quickly but you take over the the Von Banus Dynasty which has already been in place for a millennia within the coronus expans where the majority of the game takes place that also means you take control of a void ship with millions of people on it this is one of the ways Rogue Trader differs sharply from alcat Pathfinder games and probably the majority of games you have played an incredible job has been done of conveying how far your reach is and how many people are directly impacted by the decisions that you made generations of families have lived and died on your Void shift in service to the Von balanus Empire when parents are killed the children know they will have to take over and there is no choice in the manner entire planets are under your control with millions of people on it whose lives are completely in your hands throughout the game alcat provides clever reminders that you control a lot of what you see and your power is recognized by the vast majority of people that you meet unfort fortunately a lot of this is a mirage because when you take control of the Von valancius Dynasty it's absolutely in shambles you have lost the majority of your wealth major crew members necessary to operate your ship are dead and you are completely cut off from the planets that are supposed to be under your rule early on it becomes clear that agents of chaos have taken interest in your warrant of trade and seek to claim it chaos is the term used to describe a spiritual force that can cause mutation and Corruption within creatures there are demonic chaos gods or ruinous Powers who embody different aspects of chaos and use this power to corrupt Mortals humans who give in chaos are referred to as Heretics and there's no greater crime in the Imperium Heretics are often times Psychopaths who Massacre and torture anyone who comes in their path this automatically makes Warhammer a much different setting than Pathfinder because frankly the majority of humans you meet are are violent and Despicable the war between the Imperium of man and chaos is in a battle between good and evil leaders of the Imperium are destroying Humanity for profit leaders of chaos are destroying Humanity for fun no matter which group you side with violence and cruelty will be expected of you the story of Rogue traitor has you pulling together the pieces of your Empire while also deciding which group you personally align with it is possible to play more of a typ typically good-natured role in the game and that gets into another strong point the dispositions there are three different dispositions in the game dogmatic heretic and iconic class dogmatic is for characters who align strongly with the Imperium this pass will have you viciously attacking Heretics and xenos while also strongly supporting anything that expands the reach of the Imperium the vast majority of your party members either align directly with this disposition or they are used to Imperium rule my first play through was as a dogmatic character and it was a fantastic time I received multiple unique dialogue options that allowed me to connect with other Imperium align characters in unique ways I also really like the bonuses this path provided especially level four which led me select one party member who would completely ignore enemy armor for a round arenta absolutely loved that on the other side of the disposition Spectrum heretic has you siding with forces of chaos instead of only slaughtering Heretics and Zena else you'll Slaughter everybody and seek to advance chaotic objectives wherever you can you only get a couple of party members who are down with heresy so this path should provide a lot of opportunity for conflict within your group unfortunately I've heard this is a part of the game that's weak and party member reactivity toward your heretic actions isn't nearly as strong as it should be I've only seen shades of this since I haven't played as a heretic yet so I won't include it in the dislike section of this review but I thought it was worth mentioning once I've done a full heretic playthrough I'll do a separate video providing my thoughts finally you have the iconic class disposition which basically has you standing on the side of decency and Common Ground this means you don't strongly align with any particular group and instead try to get everybody to work together peacefully the interesting thing about playing this way is that there's really nobody else in your party who aligns with that perspective there are a couple of party members who lean towards the iconic class disposition but they still have strong limit ations regarding who they will work with if you play the type of character who stands for peace regardless of the situation you'll be the lighthouse in the middle of the ocean all by yourself for most of the game and that provides a very unique playthrough experience this is just not a setting where people believe in Heroes it should be obvious for everything I've stated but the writing in this game is fantastic the dialogue is consistently enthralling and fits the tone of Warhammer like a glove I have some issues with character devel development that we'll get into later but I do believe the majority of NPCs you meet throughout the game come off as very distinctive individuals and they are fun to talk with there's also an undercurrent of dark humor littered throughout the game that I really enjoyed much like the overall setting Road Traders writing feels very unique and provides an experience I've never had in another RPG another strong point of this game is character customization it starts with your ability to select a portrait and in my opinion the options that are provided to you are the strongest I've seen in an outat game today King maker and rap that the righteous both had good portraits but they also didn't feel connected and there wasn't nearly enough variety provided to consistently align with what you were looking for and Rogue Trader you could only be a human which I am sure makes it easier to provide a quality list but even outside of that all of the Rogue Trader portraits feel like they are part of the same world and that gives them a consistency that I'm options in other outat games didn't have in addition most of them look like Grim characters who have been brought up in a harsh and unforgiving world the dreaded Noble I've been using for our let's play series is most especially striking when you select a portrait your character model is automatically changed to align with it this is super cool and I really hope other games do this once this is completed you have the usual selections to change skin tone hair tattoos and other options you are able to place multiple tattoos all over your body which is pretty nice you can also add two different cybernetic implants it's nice that this is here but the options don't let you go as far with this as I would like it's weird that we've had multiple Sci-Fi games which allow you to put cyberus in your body and yet still not one of them let you look like an allout cyborg Renegade Mass Effect to was the closest I felt to it and that didn't really scratch the itch I hope we get that game one day moving on you can select your home world I have videos covering all the Mechanics for your home worlds origin and Arch types so I won't go in depth here but I can skim through it there is no reactivity to this choice in the game but each option provides a feature that you automatically get along with talents that can be selected during level UPS to give you more mechanics to play with I am not a big fan of Hive world but the others are all fantastic in their own way one of my favorites is Imperial World which will let you add a plus 10 bonus to one characteristic which can be invaluable regardless of the type of Arc Type or class you are playing its talents will give you bonuses when fighting zenos or not using xenos party members another option is Fortress World which gives you a percentage chance to get a free attack every return which is absolutely invaluable its talents help you stack that percentage higher and assist in range combat after selecting your home world you can take an origin and this Choice matters more there's not a lot of of reactivity to this choice but there's just enough to remind you throughout the game that you selected this in addition each choice gives you one characteristic and one skill that will be available for increase during level UPS in Rog Trader you cannot just increase any characteristic or skill that you want instead what is available on your list depends upon the origin and Arch type that you have selected similar to home World each origin has a feature that you automatically get and talent you can select during level ups for additional mechanics my first playthrough was as a noble and I absolutely had a ball on multiple occasions I use my high station to establish Authority and make people around me feel small playing a xenophobic Noble of the Imperium who believes everyone else is beneath him absolutely fits the game like a glove I just started my iconic class run as a crime Lord and the reactivity for that has been a lot of fun as well it also has the Fantastic feature Sure Fire plan which provides a percentage bonus to your next action whether it be an attack Dodge or non-damaging ability very nice regardless of the type of character you are running after this you can choose your Triumph and Darkest Hour which just provides small bonuses or penalties to your skills as far as I can tell there's little to no in-game reactivity to your choices here next you get to pick an arc type and this is another area where character creation really shines honest ly all of your options are fantastic Warriors obviously for melee characters whether you want to be a tank or focus on damage officer is probably the most unique archetype in the game and one of the hardest to play but it's also the most powerful class in the game it's a buffer class that revolves around giving your party members increased stats and momentum gains while also giving them extra turns that last part is key because you can give extra turns to your best damage dealer and let them tear enemies apart this means that even though officer revolves around buffing party members it's not born to play at all and frankly having officers take up half of your team slots is in a crowd operative is all about debuffing enemies and they can provide special bonuses when you attack folks from far away making it a great choice for snipers finally Soldier is all about range damage so it's also great for snipers but character specializing im bolters or flame weapons will also benefit greatly from this option again all of them are great and all of them are a lot of fun to play with at first you are only able to choose between four options but once you hit Level 16 you'll upgrade into another Arch type you'll hit that Mark by the end of act one so most of the game is spent in one of the upgrade classes the mechanics from your original class are still very powerful throughout the game so you don't get rid of what you learned instead this just stacks on top of it in my opinion Vanguard is mediocre unless you are just absolutely determined to play as aank tank which is unnecessary in this game otherwise all of the options listed are absolutely fantastic and many of them provide very unique mechanics assassin let you deal direct damage that cannot be lowered and increases your damage when you hidden enemies exposed weak side Bounty Hunter allows different effects to trigger when you critically hit and can be used by a character who wants to focus on debuffing enemies or dealing massive damage to high priority targets Master tactician let you take momentum gains and translate them into large increases in damage for you or your allies Grand strategist let you lay down fields which buff your allies while debuffing enemies Arch militant provides a buff when you switch between different types of attacks it's just all absolutely great stuff when you finally hit Level 36 Exemplar will let you take mechanics from both of your classes and improve upon them while also providing some unique options to choose from a big reason why it is so much fun putting together your character is is the combed Road Trader which I enjoy quite a bit let me say up front it's not going to be everybody's cup of tea and I'll absolutely review the reasons why When approaching a combat scenario often times you know you'll have to fight those enemies and you can attack them before combat is initiated this isn't as powerful as it is in Wrath of the righteous but it still lets you knock off a couple of enemies before they can react once combat starts usually you are able to place your characters on the map which is an option I really appreciate as it allows the player to be more tactical how far they can move is determined by their movement points the game has cover and full cover you can use for solt party members other characters can build up Dodge or armor along with deflection to defend themselves from incoming attacks and another big change from Wrath of the righteous at least until the recent patch wearing the heaviest armor you can find is definitely one of the best ways to absorb enemy attacks once combat starts all characters rooll for initiative and you can see the order in which characters will take their turns along the left of the screen combat is strictly turn-based when one of your party members has a return they can move a number of cells equivalent with their movement Points each character can only attack once and doing this ends your ability to move you cannot delay your turn or switch between different party members who have backtack turns every time you start a new turn or kill an enemy you'll gain momentum which is tracked by a blue bar to the right of your your portrait when momentum hits above 175 you get access to perform a heroic act these are super moves that buff your character and often times let you wipe out entire groups enemies hit like trucks and in most fights you will be outnumbered several times over consequently it's important for your team to charge out of the gate and if possible never even allow enemies to act this is a big reason officers shine because they have a talent call sees the initiative which automatically allow allows them to go first with a small amount of action points they can use this extra turn to provide one other character an extra turn and hopefully start a chain reaction that wipes out all of your foes Grand strategist also automatically goes first which allows them to lay down Buffs and debuffs before anyone else can react this is critical not only offensively but defensively it'll help to ensure you are prepared for what enemies launch against you figuring out how to use mechanics like this to overcome the odds is a ton of fun Rogue Trader throws such massive odds at you on a repeated basis that it really feels like the world has completely going crazy and it's turning against you it's great stuff but unfortunately there are some issues that might prevent people from enjoying Combat First of all it's turn-based and for some people that can feel very slow especially when you know you will defeat the enemy but still have to wait for them to finish their turns Honestly though it's faster than most turn-based games that I have played and if you if you are okay with balers Gate 3 you probably won't have an issue with the pace here another problem some people might have is that combat is extremely buff heavy this was an issue in Wrath that or righteous but in that game it was all about pre-buff and being prepared for whatever the game throws at you in Rog Trader there is no pre-buff and instead it's all about Buffs you apply to yourself an anticipation of using them for a massive attack the advantage of this is you don't have to spend 10 minutes buffing every time you rest in order to safely explore the world you can just pick up and go the disadvantage is you cannot just attack in this game instead you need a buildup of Buffs and/ or debuffs every turn in order to make sure your attack is successful personally I like this system a lot more than Wrath of the righteous and the buildup doesn't bother me but I know some people will definitely find it irritating the last knock I would mention against combat is that technically it's too easy by the time you get into the middle of act two as long as you have set up your party properly all fights should end in the first round and frankly the enemy should never have been given an opportunity to act this is the case even on the highest difficulty which is a stark change from previous alcat entries which were damn near unbearable on unfair I say technically it's too easy because multiple subscribers have told me this is actually consistent with the tabletop version if combat extends into a long encounter you are almost certainly going to lose unfortunately that doesn't translate well into a video game where players expect to have a greater challenge I know play games for challenge so mowing enemies down doesn't bother me at all but I know many outat fans will be disappointed moving on to a different topic Road Trader marks alcat first forray into cutscenes the game is multiple sections where you watch a scene unfold based upon actions you have taken there's not a crazy amount and the content isn't staggering but it's still really cool to see them stretch into something they haven't done before there's been a lot of discussion this year about how balers Gate 3 will push developers to do more I certainly don't want all games held to that standard but I do think if alai wants to draw in a larger audience the production value of their games will have to increase and this is a step in the right direction the last point I'd like to mention in this section is the ending if you've been watching my reviews you probably know the way a game ends is very important to me and I think most games have shot endings that don't reward the player for sinking 100 hours into an experience alcat has historically done the exact opposite and Rogue Trader is no exception there are a ton of slides that review your decisions throughout the game there's a caveat to this that we will discuss in the dislike section but overall I am really happy with what the endings provided there are some aspects of the game that I am neutral on and the first one I want to talk about is party members on the one hand the mechanics in this game are fantastic and consequently it's a ton of fun having party members that let you play with different options no two companions cover the same ground as far as the skills or capabilities in combat so it can be a hard Choice figuring out who to take with you all of them represent separate parts of the game World which makes each character a fantastic reference for a topic you might want to know more about hinks is a member of the Inquisition which is the secret police of the Imperial this group is one of the few powerful enough to Commander Road Traer and that makes your conversations both frustrating and very entertaining arenta is a battle sister so she can provide more information about the ecclesiarchy and their battle against heresy she's also my favorite damage dealer in the game and absolutely lethal with either a Bolter or flamer in her hands air is a psycher which is someone who can harness chaotic energy and use it similar to how a sorcerer uses magic this means she's constantly exposing her mind to dangerous entities and it's difficult to know whether or not she can be trusted each party member is like this providing you with more information regarding one part of the world Warhammer lore is deep and fascinating so setting the party members up like this was brilliant on alcat part it also makes party member banter both informative and very entertaining I could be wrong but it felt like companions chimed in on my conversations more than just about any game I have played sometimes one character's comment will CA two or even three other companions to chime in with their thoughts as well great stuff I also really appreciate that some of the party members have romances many of the Warhammer faithful are strongly against this and express that romance has no place in the Warhammer universe but as you'll see both here and in the dislike section I think there needs to be a balance between what Warhammer fans expect and what actually works in a video game romances are very popular in RPGs and it makes sense for them to be included here I've only played through Kia's romance thus far and it didn't wow me but then again it's more of a lovey-dovey romantic type of Affair similar to so in rra righteous which I also didn't care for I've explored some of the Romantic dialogue with heinr as a heretic and it's already appealing to me much more when I've gone through more of the romances I'll make a separate video providing my thoughts on them unfortunately despite these positive points party members are held back because alcat leans way too heavily into the Grim dark nature of War Hammer consequently it doesn't feel like any of them actually become your friends you basically maintain a boss to employee relationship with almost everybody in your party no matter what quest you do or how much you bend over backwards to appeal to them the relationship never really changes this is the case even if you strongly lean into a disposition they agree with such as being dogmatic and having arenta in your party she'll love your decisions but it doesn't change her dialogue with you or allow you to uncover layers that other players wouldn't be able to even worse most of your party members don't have a real character Arc who they are at the beginning is exactly the same way they are when the ending slides roll kasy and Pascal are the only ones who seem to really go through a change and my relationship with Pascal still never felt different part of the reason your companions don't have a real Arc is probably because they don't have nearly enough content for those who have played wrath that or righteous a lot of the party members feel like regil to me great character with a great core concept but not given nearly enough content to flesh it out properly it felt like things were happening for Casia and Pascal all the time while the rest of the party members only had things to do sparingly Warhammer enthusiasts are probably ecstatic about some of this and say it's true that the source material but frankly that doesn't matter because it hurts the game the majority of Hardcore RPG players are not going to be impressed with this group if there's one thing that's crystal clear from bg3 success is that the majority of players want to feel like their party members are their friends I prefer my games to be super dark and even I am somewhat susceptible to this Rogue Trader companions constantly feel distant and consequently they pale in comparison to the options you get both in Wrath of the righteous and King maker another aspect of Rogue Trader I am neutral on is Colony management and voidship combat I am putting them both in the same section because I lump them in the same category of alcat mini gamess alcat has a reputation for adding deeply involved mini games that are difficult to understand and yet at the same time Central to the gaming experience there was a big concern for players prior to the game's release that void Shi combat would be the same way but that is definitely not the case as you explore different worlds sometimes you come up on a collection of hostile ships you almost always see them ahead of time so there's no concern about surprise battles there are some mechanics in void ship combat you need to get used to but I feel like the majority of players can easily pick it up and understand how to succeed when fighting with your ship You Can level up your Void ship and give it different options that can be used along with upgrading different parts of it all of this is pretty easy and laid out in a simple to understand manner Colony management works in a similar fashion as you reclaim worlds you'll also get colonies which can perform jobs for you that will provide rewards such as increase reputation with a vendor a passive bonus or unique equipment in previous outat games you could really screw up the management portion and it would subsequently derail your playthrough as far as I can tell that's not really possible with Colony management all you have to do is read the text look at the reward and decide if it makes sense to you sometimes when these tasks are complete you'll have to make a decision regarding which reward you prefer often times in these situations party members will chime in with what they think you should do and in turn they can provide rewards and solutions that wouldn't otherwise be available the dialogue is done well but I think these scenes were more effective in Wrath that are rightous because there was a war Ro where all of your party members were gathered and you could see them while having the discussion in Rogue Trader you just look at the planet that you scan while the texts for different characters come up and it's not quite as impactful I put this all in the neutral section because Colony management and voidship combat has been simplified so much compared to alcat other mini games that but it doesn't impact the gaming experience like it probably should if you take Kingdom management out of King maker it's a vastly different game if you take Crusade management out of Wrath of the righteous it's also a vastly different game if you take Colony management and void shift combat out of Rogue Trader it's basically the same game your ship battles are never referenced they don't unlock conversation options you never talk with your party members or really anybody about ship combat there's rarely even an acknowledgement that ship combat sometimes occurs it basically exists in its own little bubble all of this also applies to Colony management but while vo combat at least gets more difficult over time as you face different and more numerous opponents Colony management is basically always the same so while I certainly don't think these two components make the game worse I also don't believe they make the game better which brings up the question of whether or not the resources devoted to adding them actually makes sense quick reminder before we get into the dislike section if you enjoy this video I would really appreciate you hitting the like button and subscribing to the channel there's a ton of Rogue Trader content here and we'll have even more crpg related reviews builds and guides in 2024 thank you so much for all of the support all right finally let's review what I don't like about this game starting with its stability I've mentioned before that Rog Trader is the most stable game alcat has released and I still think that's true unfortunately I also believe this is yet another alcat game that hit the market before it should have when I reached Act 4 I was greeted with a game halting bug preventing me from receiving quests that were necessary to keep advancing in the story luckily I took things slow so alcat had a patch out a couple of days later that cleared this issue but I know some other players experienced similar game halting issues during launch week even though I was able to finish the game there was another bug which prevented me from experiencing oar's final quest the planet where this Quest was supposed to occur didn't show up on the map if proceed to the final story Planet without having finished all far's Quest he abandons your group which you can imagine further cemented my frustration with the game's issues these are just some of the most damaging bugs but there's a myriad of smaller issues that players have reported again this is way more stable than Wrath of the righteous was upon release and alad has been very diligent on a weekly basis stamping out the bugs but they still marred my experience along with many other players I am also not a fan of the complete lack of real villains there are no Central figures that you are fighting against few of the Heretics zenos and demonic entities you battle are given a real backstory and RAR do you have a chance to converse with them there are two other roog Traders within the coronus expanse which are presented as Rivals both of them are poorly developed and their relationship with you is almost wholly dependent upon your disposition not the conversations you have had with them throughout the game a couple of other villainous characters pop up that are supposedly wellknown but you learned virtually nothing about them before these meetings so they are not nearly as impactful as they should be the lone exception of this at least on some level is the Lord Inquisitor who might be your main villain depending on how you are playing but he's still not enough this dovetails into another big issue I have with Rogue Trader the ingame is terrible acts 1 through3 are fantastic and in my opinion they stack up well against any of Al cat's previous games four is mediocre in large part because the game does a poor job of building up its characters there's no main villain the secondary villains are virtually unknown you have no relationship with the other Rogue Traders the game doesn't even call out a singular chaos God that you know you are fighting consequently none of the quests have the emotional impact you should be experiencing at that point in the game even the party member Quest don't have the same punch for the same reasons I have mentioned Act five is even worse because the vast majority of it is completely unnecessary the game Waits until the very last act to introduce a new enemy that never speaks consequently most of Act five is visiting different planets to engage in Long combat encounters with FES that tell you nothing most of the areas where you have these fights are small and there's not many secrets to uncover it doesn't make sense to end the game in this fashion the final conversation and fight are both very nice and as I mentioned before the ending slides are fantastic but the buildup outside of one clever encounter leaves a lot to be desired since we are talking about the endgame I'd also like to note that unlike outat previous entries there's no secret ending you can work to achieve both King maker and Wrath of the righteous had secret endings that drastically changed the slide you received and it felt like a real accomplishment making them happen I know it's difficult to implement that into their games so I don't knock alcat for Rog Traer not Happ one but it's definitely sorely missed let's Circle back to ofar for a bit because he's another aspect of this game I didn't like the matically or mechanically thematically ofar is a Space Marine one of the most rare and feared characters in the entire galaxy unfortunately I don't think the game does a good job of reinforcing that there are a couple of moments where people stand in all of orar but for most of the game he's either completely ignored or treated in a dismissive manner there's definitely no situation that becomes easier to deal with because you have allar in the party and that just doesn't make sense to me this should absolutely be scenarios where you can convince people to do something simply because you have a freaking Space Marine with you but that's just not the case in the game mechanically ofar should be Head and Shoulders above everybody else in your party but again that's absolutely not the case even though his portrait clearly shows him holding an axe and makes you think he's a melee fighter he actually starts with the soldier Arch type and his mechanics heavily lean towards him being a range combatant that would be fine except you are completely unable to change any of his Soldier options and his build is mediocre which basically means he's a worse option than arenta if you want to use him as a melee fighter he'll pale in comparison to hinr or even Mara eye on top of this he's very limited as far as what equipment ofar will allow you to put on his character this wouldn't be an issue if the game provided equipment that he was specifically supposed to use but all I ever found was the armor Cape he has when you first recruit him even if his bug Quest has more options you cannot complete it until act five basically at the end of the game so not only do heimr and arenta have better melee and Reigns bills respectively but they can also use better equipment than him again he's a Space Marine so there should be a clear mechanic separation between him and the rest of your party it definitely didn't feel that way to me since we on the subject of party members put me on the list of people who find it disappointing we only get two xenos options and only one of them is really viable for most playthroughs again I know many Warhammer fans are ecstatic about this and feel it's true to the lore that we don't have a squad of aliens roaming around with us at the same time it seems like there are just as many fans who feel like Orcs or some other creature would really help round out the group personally it's a pet peeve when developers fill a party up with humans knowing there are a bunch of different race options available in the overall game world I would absolutely love working with strange creatures from distant planets far removed from the current conflict another aspect of this game that I don't like is it prioritizes conversations that are essentially side quests I play my games in a very segmented fashion if I am working on the main quest then I am working on the main quest once I get tired of the main quest then I do a bunch of side quests until I am ready to get back into the main story and Rogue Traer when you are roaming the world map and somebody on your ship wants to talk you are often times not given the option to say you'll speak with them later the game forces you to stop hunting that dangerous band of zenos and instead talk with Casia about her love of books this happens almost constantly throughout the game and although I welcome the actual content the way it is delivered becomes very annoying on a similar note there are a couple of times in the game where you're railroaded into doing specific things or taking specific choices that really doesn't make sense and it doesn't feel good I can't talk more about it without revealing something but when you experience one of those moments you'll absolutely know what I'm talking about especially if you are doing a heretic playthrough the last issue I want to note and possibly the biggest one on this list is that out of all the games outcast has done Rogue Trader feels like it has the least amount of voice acting that might not be true and alcat reported this game has the same amount as all the other games that they have done but to me it absolutely feels like less and a step in the wrong direction so obviously in all alcat games there's a limited amount of voice acting but in King maker and Wrath of the righteous dialogue during pivotal moments typically is voic that's absolutely not the case in Rogue Trader and there are several critical points where there's no voice acting whatsoever even worse there's multiple major characters who are never voiced including both of your rival Rogue Traders literally the very last conversation of the game before and after the final boss fight contains zero voice acting lady Theodora herself who is a pretty pivotal character right from the beginning of the game also has no voice acting whatsoever which is kind of baffling to be honest with you the vast majority of players don't have the patience to read long walls of text again alcat base audience isn't going to grow until their products become more accessible from a production standpoint there needs to be more voice acting in their games not less that wraps up all my thoughts regarding Rogue Trader again I had a fantastic time with the game and I'm really looking forward to going through a second run it has its problems but provides a very unique experience that's well worth playing for anyone who enjoys great stories looking forward to hearing your feedback on this review and the game overall hope all of you enjoyed this video take care
