an honor to be able to bring you the word of the lord tonight i'm going to do some teaching also a little bit of preaching i've heard it called treaching before that's what we're in store for this wednesday night amen we're going to go to the word of the lord in joshua chapter number four beginning in verse number 21 says when your children shall ask their fathers in time to come saying what mean these stones then you shall let your children know saying israel came over this jordan on dry land aren't you thankful for foundation stones amen landmarks that have been placed in your life amen landmarks that show what god has done [Music] amen let's lift our hands to him right now lord we come before you right now well we love you and we thank you for what you're going to do in the service tonight thank you for our landmarks god that have been set in place for us lord and landmarks that you have given us throughout our lifetime and landmarks that are to come to sinners that come to repentance and through sinners who may come to be baptized in jesus name thank you for landmarks thank you for the truth of your word in jesus name amen amen you may be seated this evening landmarks are something that have been placed that are sturdy that are set a lot of times throughout our history landmarks have been placed in deserted areas or or maybe even mountaintops and landmarks have been set up high just like these right here that let people know that someone has passed through here before those rocks just don't end up like that amen but someone has placed those rocks and built those rocks up for us to know and to remember that someone has passed through this area before they also have these if you can go to the next slide who knows what that is stonehenge right everybody knows that that landmark many many other landmarks throughout our history have been placed all throughout the world and throughout the land for us to know that man has passed through here before and i'm repeating that for a specific reason because as i preach to you tonight and teach to you a little bit i want you to know that the outside world looks to you and wants to see where has god has passed through before amen how many of you know our landmarks are not only for us but they're a witness unto those who may come in after us amen they're a witness to those who may be lost on their journey and along the way and those who may find themselves in a low valley or a deserted island or may find themselves way up high on a mountaintop where no other man has been before maybe they find themselves hurting or hopeless maybe they find themselves in need of joy or in need of something that could carry them a little further but they don't know where to look or they don't know where to go and they see a landmark at work come on somebody they see a landmark at walmart or they see a landmark at school that day we think that it has to be this this statue that was built outside the church walls or it has to be a a cross that draws them into the church no no no a landmark can be you or it can be i amen amen so tonight i want to preach to you for just a little bit on the landmark of salvation the landmark of salvation when someone sees me i want them to know i want them to see salvation salvation is not only for me but it's for them it's a light to be shined throughout our world ephesians 2 and 20 says and they are built upon the foundations of the apostles and prophets jesus christ himself being the chief cornerstone since the rise of modern day christianity has become politically incorrect to preach an absolute message one that says this is the way it is supposed to be done this is the truth of the word of god there's many churches you can go to and you'll never hear an absolute message there are many variations to the plan of salvation throughout all kinds of denominations they create a logical and a theological nightmare have you ever tried to teach someone a bible study that has visited many many different churches in our world the questions and the questions and the and the questions and the concerns and the what about this and what about that and i've been taught this and i've been taught that my main question always is have you ever been shown in the word of god for that to be true and if you can't tell me with a definite yes then i suggest we sit down and we study it out in the word of god salvation is a landmark salvation is an absolute amen salvation was never meant to be moved or changed it was meant to be set in stone so that when someone walks by they say that has been here this landmark has not moved this landmark has not changed how would you feel if you walked and saw one of those landmarks and you saw it kicked over and a new one built and then beside that one kicked over and another one built and then kicked over and another one built that's not a landmark that's just someone building pyramids with rocks i want my salvation to be true and absolute amen amen why don't we give the lord a handclap of praise this evening [Applause] romans 3 23 says for all have sinned and come short of the glory of god if you're a sinner here today won't you raise your hand oh come on now all have sinned we believe that that's a truth of god's word human beings could do nothing to redeem themselves but god himself provided a way of salvation by believing on jesus christ we may be born again and inherit eternal life john 3 16 says this for god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life don't overlook this scripture as one that's read throughout history and one that's read in every kind of denomination in church it's true that god so loved the world that he gave himself and if we would just believe on him if we just say god you are my god it's not as complicated as we may think it may seem it's not as complicated as we try to make it it's as simple as god so loved the world that he died on the cross for you and for me and if i believe that he's god [Applause] just like any other commandment in scripture to know it is not enough i had a friend back home that could give you the deepest most theological bible study you ever could imagine and he was so intelligent and so smart and and he he loved the bible but he lacked a relationship with god you could quote this bible word for word and not make it to heaven there's a lot of men out there ladies too who can quote this bible word for word but don't know him as jehovah jireh don't know him as their lord amen so what is this gospel we have to believe the greek word for believe doesn't really mean to just mentally acknowledge something i believe in that i believe that believe means to commit salvation is a commitment to god salvation is not a belief in god salvation is a commitment as in believing something so strongly that it causes you to do something i've believed in a lot of things but have not committed to many but the things i committed to came to pass amen the things that i said i will do i believe it and i will do it those are the things that came to pass in my life first corinthians 15 and 1 through 4 says it's a little lengthy scripture but so important to the plan of salvation it says moreover brethren i declare unto you the gospel which i preached unto you which also you have received and wherein ye stand by which also you are saved if you keep in memory what i preached unto you unless you have believed in vain for i delivered unto you the first of all that which i also received how that christ died for our sins according to the scriptures he was buried then buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scripture so what is the gospel the gospel is the death and the burial and the resurrection of jesus christ the gospel is the good news of salvation and that's why in the very first church service in church history after the very first sermon was ever preached by the apostles after the very first time someone ever asked what shall we do peter gave them the gospel of jesus christ peter gave them the good news of the gospel peter gave them the death and the burial and the resurrection of jesus christ he said you must repent you must be baptized in jesus name and you must be filled with the holy ghost evidence of speaking in tongues the death repentance the burial baptism and the resurrection the infilling of the holy ghost you may think this is so simple tonight i know salvation but do you know it well enough to be a landmark do you know it well enough to stand strong in the midst of our world today and say no matter what you throw at me it's the death and the burial and the resurrection of our lord jesus christ it's repentance and baptism in jesus name and the infilling of the holy ghost if you want to have salvation you must have the gospel never ever try to separate the gospel or the good news away from your salvation don't think that the good news just goes with matthew mark luke and john oh no when jesus taught the apostles when he sat him down and he gave him those few last words then the apostles went on through the book of acts and began to preach the gospel and began to go from city to city they didn't change the narrative but they preached what they were told they preached what they knew they knew the death the burial and the resurrection of jesus christ and they preached it the same jesus said i will be crucified in his last words to the apostles be buried and then rise again and because of this i want you to go out and preach repentance and baptism and the infilling of the holy ghost the very last thing jesus did on earth with his disciples was emphasize how to obey the gospel we must not only believe the gospel but we must it's a must that we obey the gospel we can believe the word of god but we must obey the word of god amen repentance is not just accepting the good news it's not just feeling sorry for our sins it is being sorry enough to change we can sit on our church pews and not want to change we can sit on our church pews and not know what repentance means and it breaks my heart when the presence of god flows through this place and change weaves in and out of these pews every sunday morning and every wednesday night and repentance tries to poke you right in the heart and it's the first step to salvation god i don't want to be lost god i don't want to live a life and an end with me not making it to heaven and if it takes me sitting on that pew and allowing repentance to flow down my row and hit me right in the chest and say god forgive me of whatever i did wrong today god i'm so sorry for the sin i committed today repentance isn't a kid's own activity repentance is not a route 56 or a infinite youth ministry repentance is a salvation issue it is a salvation commandment and if we're going to make it to heaven baptism and the infilling of the holy ghost will not be enough we must repent it's a must it's a commandment we have to repent of our sins oh i've not done anything wrong this week oh no you lie to someone else tell someone else that story but don't tell god that story amen we're all laughing and joking but deep inside this preacher's heart right here i know that if i don't ask god for forgiveness every single morning when i wake up you may say oh i've been sleeping all night i've done nothing wrong oh no it's asking for forgiveness for what you did while you were sleeping amen it's asking god for what thoughts ran through your head as you lay down at night it's asking god that god i don't even know what i did wrong but i'm sorry if i've done anything to contradict your word if i've done anything to break your heart if i've done anything to cause a tear to roll down your face i'm sorry lord that's what repentance is repentance isn't about face that's what they say what does that mean in the military it's an about face it's turning 180 degrees and going the other direction i want to make sure that my life exemplifies repentance when someone sees me as a landmark of the gospel of jesus christ i want them to see a repented man amen repentance is so necessary matthew 3 and 8 says bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance repentance is absolutely essential for salvation luke 13 3 says this i tell you nay but except ye repent you shall likewise perish don't let me die missing repentance heaven rejoices over one sinner that repents what does that mean repentance is a big deal in heaven not only to god but all of heaven rejoices when one man comes to god in repentance oh i i'm not going to cry before god no no no you should weep in repentance oh i'm not a crier you're a repenter once we have repented in salvation we must be baptized in jesus name what is baptism baptism is we have put on christ what does that mean how do you put on christ we are buried with him in baptism remember the gospel the death and the burial and the resurrection we are buried with him in baptism that's why it's so important that when you go down in the water in baptism you are immersed amen in the water in baptism in the name of jesus christ for the remission or removal amen of your sin every christian in the bible was baptized in the name of jesus you know some may say are you sure well let's give proof today amen remember what i told you if you can't show me in the bible i don't believe it but if you can prove it to me then i'm okay i'll i'll do it i'll commit amen so let's take a look acts chapter 2 and verse 38 in the name of jesus christ in acts chapter 8 and verse 16 the samaritan believers they were baptized in the name of the lord jesus in acts chapter 10 cornelius in his household baptized in the name of the lord and the disciples of john in acts chapter 19 in the name of the lord jesus matthew chapter 28 and verse 18 through 19 says and jesus came and spake unto them saying all power is given unto me unto who unto me right unto jesus in heaven and in earth so go ye therefore verse 19 and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost and john 5 43 says i am come in my father's name matthew 1 21 they shall call his name jesus john 14 26 the holy ghost whom the father will send in my name amen the name of the father is jesus and the name of the son is jesus and the name of the holy ghost is jesus amen [Applause] matthew didn't write his gospel until a.d 62 he was making a theological statement about the oneness of god that had been confirmed for 30 years of the church baptizing in the name of jesus christ he wasn't presenting a new concept but he was trying to prove the oneness of jesus christ that pastor glenn so eloquently preached to us last wednesday night amen how many of you are thankful for the revelation of the oneness of jesus christ amen romans chapter 6 and 4 says therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death that like as christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the father even so we also should walk in newness of life in mark 16-16 he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be down baptism is essential for salvation amen let me say it again so we all understand repentance and baptism is essential to salvation amen amen amen so what about the holy ghost some may say we don't say ghosts because ghost is kind of kind of creepy a little bit what about the holy spirit what about the spirit of the living god the holy ghost the holy spirit the apostles in acts 1 and 8 said it says this but he shall receive power after that the holy ghost has come upon you how can we miss this for salvation how can we just skip over acts chapter number one i want to make sure that the men who lived with jesus and learned from jesus that what they did and what they taught is what i do and in the very first chapter it says but you shall receive power after that the holy ghost has come upon you and then you should be witnesses unto me both in jerusalem and all judea and in samaria and unto the uttermost parts of the earth the new birth experience is designed to let you live your own life in death of repentance and then buried with him in baptism and then raised up as a new creature in him through the spirit of god amen the holy ghost is essential the point of resurrection is not just that jesus got up out of the grave but the point of resurrection is that you and i can get up out of our grave amen we've seen the song amen about getting up out of that grave but i want to make sure that my life that i repent and i'll be baptized in jesus name but then that i don't stay buried and then i don't stay living that old life and then i don't say stuck to that same sin and then i don't allow the devil to grab ahold of me and keep a hold of me we think that just because we asked for forgiveness and just because we've gone down in the water in baptism that the enemy just leaves us alone we got to have power from on high we got to be endued with the almighty god and the almighty power we must walk in the spirit and not after the flesh what does that mean i must walk with my holy ghost what are you what are you trying to say i'm trying to say that sometimes when we go to work we leave some salvation in the car i don't know about you but i need the holy ghost i need the holy ghost when i'm at work i need the holy ghost when i'm at home you know what i our marriages will be a lot happier if we all were married with the holy ghost amen amen i'm going to get off pastors topics for just a moment amen we must walk in the spirit and not after the flesh jesus rose from the grave in a glorified body and we hear it said all the time when when we get to heaven we're going to get a glorified body and i can't wait to be six foot three 185 i'm so excited already me and jesus talked about my glorified body already amen no one will call me pee-wee any longer that was my nickname growing up that's what everybody called me amen but when i get to heaven no not any longer amen they're going to see that glorified body can i get a witness in the house amen [Applause] but jesus rose from the grave in a glorified body he didn't need the stone rolled away for him amen but he rolled the stone away by himself the stone was rolled away as a sign to us that he had actually literally risen from the dead no one came in the middle of the night and rolled the stone away jesus rose from the grave and rolled the stone away amen it's the holy spirit of god it encompasses much more than merely just speaking in tongues amen it encompasses much more than just speaking in tongues but speaking in tongues is given as a supernatural sign to us that we have actually literally received the holy ghost they needed a sign that he had risen from the grave you need a sign that you have risen from the grave the person sitting beside you needs a sign amen that says all that they're getting the holy ghost god's in filling them with his spirit right now some say you can receive god's spirit without speaking in tongues but i haven't found that anywhere in my bible yet that's not what the bible says amen every christian in the bible spoke in tongues here's the first time any gentile man or woman received the holy ghost acts chapter 10 and verse 44 it says while peter yet spake these words the holy ghost fell on all them which heard the word and they are the circumcision which believed right belief is important we can't skip belief on all of them that believed amen were astonished as many as came with peter because that on the gentiles also was poured out the gift of the holy ghost for they heard them speak in tongues and magnify god and then answer peter can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized and he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the lord then they prayed and they then they tarried for certain days what does hinder you tonight you say oh i i i'm too far gone or maybe i'm i'm too old or i'm i'm kind of new to this oh no i want to make heaven my home amen i want to get this devil off my back i want to draw an eye to god amen the baptism of the holy ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues is the original experience of the new testament church and that is our pattern that is the belief of the word of god that is what the bible says it's not church history it's not denominations but it's the bible it's not what man says it's not what pastor says if pastor gets up here and preaches any other salvation i'm out of here because i know what the word of god says i know the truth i know the absolute of the word of god and no man no preacher no other saint of another church can sway me in my landmark of salvation it's been built since the beginning of time and it'll never change it'll never move it'll always be there amen amen amen [Applause] salvation has been through the early beginnings of scripture you can look at the israelites fleeing from egypt they're crossing the red sea how many of you look at that story right there and say salvation how many of you say oh they're just running from the egyptians and they cross the red sea and then god swallows them up and their horses horsemen and their chariots in the sea no no no you see egypt is a typology of sin and the israelites have realized what has happened and they're fleeing and what does god do he buries their sin in baptism you take a look at noah in the ark sin had encompassed the world man had fallen away from god man had turned their turn away and turned toward wicked ways what does god do he said you need to repent and no one listened to him and he said you're going to get baptized whether you like it or not he gave him a warning amen he gave him a warning through a man named noah and said hey you better get right with god because there's a rain coming they looked at him like he was crazy rains are coming floods are coming i want to let you know god sent you a preacher tonight to give you a warning to give you a heed tonight that says repent be baptized in jesus name be filled with the holy ghost noah in the ark it's a great story of animals coming two by two but it's also a great story of salvation that says when sin has encompassed your life that you know you need to be immersed in water in order to have your sin removed god has laid out salvation all throughout the word of god in john chapter 1 and verse 12 it says this but as many as has received him to them gave he power to become the sons of god even to them that believe on his name which were born not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man but of god notice here that there are three parts to salvation here first we must receive the lord we must believe on him we must receive the lord into our lives ask him for forgiveness that is repentance second we must believe in such a way that it invokes the name of jesus over our lives and that is through baptism and thirdly we must allow god to give us the power to change and that is the holy ghost then and only then are we born again jesus taught nicodemus this same exact principle you must be born again what did nicodemus say how can i be born again into my mother's womb a second time and jesus said no no you must be born of the water and of the spirit except you can't enter into the kingdom of heaven the new birth salvation message is one of our foundational landmarks of the apostolic church amen man if our musicians would come back tonight i want to show you a picture this evening of stone this is called stone soup raise your hand if you have ever heard of this before a couple pastor a new pastor he knows every story this is stone soup and i begin to just do some research on this this stone soup and the way they make it is is they take a pot and they put water in it and they begin to boil that water and they drop the stones into the bottom of that pot and they continually boil the water over until it's a rolling boil and then they add the herbs and the spices in there and then they add the vegetables and they add the meat or whatever you would like in there and then once it's all cooked they take the stones out of the soup they set them to the side and i begin to think about this and back home in arkansas we had this very arkansan thing called and it was at my church it was called hobo stew that's not the most arkansas soup i have ever heard that is what it was hobo stew and what it was is everybody in the church brought what they wanted in their soup and they had this huge pot over the fire and whatever you brought they put in that pot what and there's some weird people out there that like weird things in their suit and so i would i would bring the beef right because i mean that goes with soup and we would bring like corn and green beans and you know that that goes potatoes that goes in soup right but people would bring some weird things and they were put in that suit and then when they were going to serve that soup i would try to get my spoon and get what i brought out because i didn't want what anybody else brought so they're scooping and pouring in the bowl and i'm like no you just give me the spoon and i'll find the potatoes and the green beans and the corn and the beef and then the juice that's all i want i won't know the rest of that let's all stand this evening amen i feel like every time i get prayer to preach i talk about food for a little time amen i might be skinny but mom always said i could really eat a lot but stone soup it rocked my world today i never could imagine stone soup would do me how it did me today because it don't matter what anybody else puts in the suit it don't matter what anybody else tries to add to this word of god right here it don't matter what ingredient they try to throw in it don't matter how long they boil it how much they stir it [Music] when i dip into this word of god i want to make sure that i dig out those stones that i know are true and absolute in our landmarks i want to encourage you today don't go out in this world searching for all different kinds of soups and all different kinds of answers and all different kinds of ingredients or recipes there's only one recipe to salvation amen there's only one stone of salvation there's only one landmark of salvation and it's the death and the burial and the resurrection of jesus christ it's repentance and baptism and the infilling of the holy ghost that is salvation [Music] and i wouldn't be a minister of the gospel if i didn't allow you to receive salvation right here right now if you've never repented of your sin or if it's been since yesterday morning that you repented of your sin i ask that you make your way down to these altars right now and that you come with expectancy in your heart and then you come with belief in your heart saying god i believe in you god forgive me right now god forgive me of my sins [Music] god wants to baptize somebody right now on a wednesday night in the name of jesus
