what is a mimic a mimic is a monster that shapeshifts into an everyday object in order to lure in its victims like any object it could be a chair it could be a toilet you're sitting on the toilet but it's actually a monster no I don't want to imagine no don't imagine that if you play DND the classic mimic is a treasure chest but what if it was a Christmas present in this video we're going to show you how to take a normal looking Christmas present and turn it into a mimic first up we're going to make our present we're going to build the Box using foam core board this way it'll be nice and rigid and we can make it the exact size we want it's really easy to use you could just cut it with a knife and a little hot glue in the corners holds it all together I drew a picture this is kind of what it's going to look like so it looks like we got to cut out some from the top and from the bottom to make the mouth yes we're going to sculpt the mimics mouth over the wrapping paper so first we have to wrap our present after cutting some paper to size we use some spray adhesive to make sure it was stuck on everywhere what's that yes foreign we're gonna make the teeth now we're gonna make some of them out of these foam dowels but y'all recommended we try out foam clay in our last video so that's what we're gonna do it looks really fun and Squishy and I've never used it before squishy it's very squishy so it's foam and Clay it's so light it's really cool [Music] this stuff is so soft I was gonna put a toothpick in there so it could stay up like this but it's just gonna fall and like the toothpick is going to go through it so I don't know here's my tooth I'm going to lay it down and I may have to rotate it throughout the day to make sure it just doesn't get a flat bottom but I think it's going to work so 31 teeth to go [Music] behold my beautiful teeth we let them dry it's really interesting they're still like squishy inside it kind of feels like a marshmallow I'm wondering if it's going to get harder or if it's just going to stay squishy we're gonna make gums for a little guy here and I do want to sculpt them but to bulk them out a little bit first we're going to cut some out with EBA foam you need some contact cement to stick the gums on and I'm going to do the inside first that way I can kind of wrap the outside around really tightly [Music] the gums still look a little bit thin so what we ended up doing was gluing another piece of foam to the Inside Edge now we were really inspired for this project by Steve from SKS props he made a pumpkin mimic that was really really cool and that's what he did for the gums he added some extra stuff and then sculpted on top of that so we're Loosely following his tutorial for this so now that's all set we are going to glue the Box open and then we'll do the teeth to give our box a cool expression we're going to have it kind of open but also like a little bit crooked kind of like just like a crazy looking Mount so I got to position this kind of where I want it to go and then I made these little foam core thingies that I'm just going to glue inside so that it stays in the right spot there we go these teeth came out so cool but they almost didn't when we cut off the back to make it flat so we could glue it on we discovered that the inside of this is still totally not cured it's wet and then we learned that because it's so big it can take like a week to dry but thankfully the back skinned over so I think it's still gonna work fine so we made a whole bunch of them and the plan is to just hot glue them in place and kind of just have some fun with it and make it look really cool foreign the teeth like the teeth made it it looked it looked gummy before and I mean I guess anything with no teeth that's meant to have teeth probably looks a little weird but I remember but the next phase is when we're going to take this air dry clay and sort of like sculpt around all the teeth first we eat eyeballs eyeballs yeah okay so for the eyes we're going to build up a little bit of foam to create some depth and then after that we can use some hot glue to just hot glue on all these little eyeballs foreign clay to sculpt on the gums and the eyelids how it works is you get this a little bit wet and that helps this stick to it and then we sculpt so wish me luck foreign [Music] [Music] Clay is so interesting it goes on super fast and then you get some really good texture in it and then all your texture blows up and you lose your texture but wait why does it blow up I don't know it like Puffs and then it expands it poofs out it poops out which is cool but I don't know but you know what it still looks awesome so I'll take it is it time to make the crazy tongue yeah yeah mimics always have huge nasty tongues so we took some Armature wire and we kind of bent it into the shape we want and it's going to go in here we're gonna wrap it in tin foil make a big old shape and it should look pretty awesome foreign awesome [Music] [Music] got good news and I got bad news good news is it's working great lumpy tongue bad news is this is all the clay I have so fdmr tomorrow to be continued in size painted black so now we're going to seal it prime it and then paint it to seal it we're going to use some Mod Podge [Music] I'm doing a red base coat here because I want the gums to have a really warm undertone the teeth get a base coat of off-white first because I want the final product to be pretty bright the gums are still showing up really dark and I wanted them to be a more vibrant purple so putting a layer of light purple underneath helped the main purple stand out more with that on I'm putting a little dark purple shading at the bottom edges to give it some Shadow and then our main purple on top to make the gums around the teeth really pop we're giving it a bright red highlight the next thing I'm doing is kind of like an underpainting I want them to transition from a light color to a really dark at the base of the tooth so I'm kind of doing some messy shading here knowing that it's going to all be Blended in afterwards a little light dry brushing really brings that bright color back and helps to smooth out the transitions underneath [Music] we are back to the tongue we found more clay different color but same stuff so it worked great I'm gonna paint this before we put it in the Box because it's going to be a whole lot easier and just like the Box we are going to do a layer of mod podge layer of base coat paint and then our final paint and I think for this one we're going to do the traditional purple to Blue gradient [Music] thank you before we put the tongue in I want it to look wet so we're going to use some gloss glaze and then I'm also going to do the same thing on the teeth [Music] before we check out the final mimic we just want to say thank you for watching we tried a bunch of new stuff on the project hope you guys liked it let us know in the comments and I hope you have a wonderful holiday and New Year and until next time stay Wicked foreign
