In today's episode we will be checking into
the most luxurious and romantic hotel in the Scottish Highlands, The Fife Arms in Braemar.
It's such a unique place filled with art and antiques because it's owned by two of the
world's most influential art dealers, Manuela and Iwan Wirth from Switzerland. But now without
further ado, let's check into our hotel room because we think you will absolutely love
it. So we just checked in and we are staying at the Lord Byron room. Now let's have a look.
Let's have a look. This is stunning! Yeah. How absolutely stunning! Yeah. There is so much to see. Let me, let me get
rid of my bag. It's better. So as we said, this is the Lord Byron room
and as you can see Lord Byron in all his glory. But let's just film the room first for you. Let's have a look. Bathroom. Oh, I love this. Such a gorgeous style and
we have this at home and they have a shop here which we will check out of course. The bathtub looks so big. you can enjoy that.
And around the corner is the closet. Let's have a look. I love that it has the same wallpaper as the
rest of the room. Tea & coffee station. Fantastic. This is one
of Lord Byron's coats, this is incredible. I'm just thinking how he would have looked
in that. I think - amazing - this is an amazing coat. Just think about that. Yeah. And the
curtains, the tartan curtains are to die for. And I really love this seating area. So this
room is a Scottish Culture room. Now let's see. Dear Mr and Mrs Wick, Welcome to The Fife
Arms. We would like to wish you a wonderful stay full of fresh memories. Just have a look. Oh, truffles. Very nice. Very colorful. It looks like jewelry.
Look. It's like jewelry. Good morning from the Scottish Highlands.
We got up at six o'clock and we slept so well. I must say, I I honestly slept like a baby
and we will head down to breakfast any minute now. And it seems that the weather will be
nice as well today so we can go on a little hike and explore the area. So this is the Picasso painting and I think
it looks so nice against the tartan wallpaper or Jörg, is it wallpaper? I think it's fabric.
It's fabric. It's fabric. And the highlight here in the drawing room is the ceiling I
think. At first one would think this wouldn't fit
with their traditional interior but it looks absolutely stunning. This room is beautiful. Jörg has vegetarian breakfast and brown toast.
And this is gluten free Eggs Benedict. Are you in the Highland mood? Yes I am. We just
passed a lady and she said good morning. And I said 'Morje' - which is dialect where you
come from. Yeah which is good morning in German. I don't know what's happening. We're doing
a small hike this morning and - it's around Braemar - yeah - up to the hill
- Morrone. It's 850m high. Yes. And it's said that we've got stunning
views all around in the Cairngorms. We are in the Cairngorms National Park. Yeah. We totally forgot to mention how long this
hike is. It's six miles so not too bad and we booked cream tea later so it's great that
we're burning some calories now. Imagine this place with all its heather in bloom. That
must look incredible. Well, I hope you can hear me but we made it
to the top and it is so worth it. Stunning views everywhere. Say it one more time. What?
Cairngorms. Cairngorms. Cairngorms National Park which is the biggest
national park in the UK so if you love hiking and stunning views, this is the perfect place.
Yeah. It's just breathtaking. It is. It's so so nice. And we are so lucky with the weather
as well. We don't mind wind as long as it's dry. Yeah. And what's even better, we think
you don't have to drive you, can just walk straight from the hotel. So great. The funny thing is I don't know if we took
the wrong path somewhere but this won't be six miles. I think more like about ten. It's fine though.
It's absolutely fine. The weather is beautiful and we don't mind. Looking a bit bedraggled
but what a nice day or what a lovely morning. And we met some amazing students and talked
to them and it was just lovely. What a lovely chat we had. Yes. It's 2.59. One minute. It's
tea time. Come on. Come on. So this is Lapsang tea which is Jörg's favourite
and I have chosen Bollywood Chai. I thought I would try something else. Now this smells divine. Oh, this is good.
This is good. Regular scones. And I think they are so big.
They are. Really big. And two gluten free scones. How's your scone.
It's delicious. It's good. My goodness, my gluten free scones were amazing.
There's always such a big difference but these ones were really good. How was your cream
tea? Excellent. Mine too. Now I have to do a walk. I think we did a lot of walking today
but there's never enough walking. But now we're having brain food. Brain food? Yes.
The art. Looking at all the art. Definitely. That's brain food. Yes. I love it. Me too.
And I'm not an art expert. You don't have to be. No, you just have to - like it - open
minded. Exactly. Yes I love this too. This is so interesting. It's just not your
average hotel. Wonderful. And all the art here is pretty
stunning. But did you have a look around the corner?
There's more. More art. Here. You don't even know where to start,
there's so much to look at. Did you see this? Oh look, at the painted door. Unique. So here
are the family rooms. We want to show you the boot room. Thank you. So they showed us around yesterday
and our boots weren't muddy today but should they be you can clean them here. Take them
off, clean them here. And then they said try them next door, yeah? It's a nice environment
to clean your booth. It is. Very Downton Abbey. Yeah, very Downton Abbey. This angle. And
obviously you can take the wellies. Yeah. I think. Seems so. And so this is Downton
Abbey. The drying room isn't Downton Abbey but as Jörg said, he said it's safe. So - so you can lock up your shoes so that
they can't escape. Over here is Bertie's, the whiskey bar which we will try tomorrow.
Okay, let let's go because the room next door is very alpine. Looks very much like Switzerland
I think. And this here is the shop and we actually
have some things at home. And now let's explore Braemar a little. Hmm. Although it's very
small. Only around 800 people live here. So it won't take long. No but you said like you
said you saw it yesterday it has a very Wes Andersonesque railway station. This is the
building and maybe we come back tomorrow and take a picture without a car if we're lucky
but we read that there is no railway. No, I can't see any. We don't know if there used
to be one hundred years ago but it's so funny, isn't it? Yeah. Station building in the middle
of a city. Very quirky. It's not even a town Jörg, this is a tiny village. Do you want to attend the Highland Games?
No. I don't know the rules. Do you have to be Scottish actually? I think so. And I'm
not strong enough. No, definitely not. Maybe I don't know if i've got a kind of run, where
you have to run - hmm yeah - maybe I'm good at that. Yes. Especially running away. So where are we here?
This is the famous Braemar Highland Games arena. Yes. And it's held the first Saturday
in September - yeah - every year. And they started doing this -hmmm - as it is done now
in 1832. Yes. And the reigning monarch and members of the royal family have been attending
this gathering since 1848. Yeah, so quite some time. And I think this arena holds around 16,000
people. Today Jörg and I went to Balmoral Castle which was amazing. We had such a lovely
day. You will see that in the next video. And now we're going to dinner and the hotel
has two restaurants. Tonight we're going to the Flying Stag which is basically a pub.
And yesterday we went to the I think it's pronounced Clunie which is more of a high-end
restaurant which was wonderful as well but now let's try the pub. Prost. Your beer is called the Flying Stag.
Yes. I have pork sausages with mash - yes - and onion gravy. Okay. Gluten free fish and chips. Very traditional.
Yeah. We're now heading to Bertie's bar here in
the hotel - 'cause I want to taste the whiskey. Yes, they have 365 whiskies so one whiskey
a day. Yeah. A different whiskey every day. And because I was a little bit naughty. You
just lost a bet. Yeah, that's true, I lost a bet. And yeah, Jörg says I have to drink
something alcoholic as a punishment because I usually don't drink alcohol. Lead the way
and see if they have a spot for us. Looks like it. It's very dark, so let's see. Now they only have whiskey so we need to go
to the other bar later. So Jörg is trying whiskeys but the atmosphere in here is amazing.
I absolutely love it. It's so cosy. And all the whisky bottles. Insane. So now your punishment.
I forgot the name. Shocking pink. Shocking Pink because Elsa's, Elsa's bar is named after
Elsa Schiaparelli and her favourite color was pink. Now - let's
give it a try. Cheers. Cheers. Yeah. It's not too bad. So is that a punishment?
A little bit, I can taste the alcohol but it's not bad. It's a lot better than whiskey
for me so yeah, why not? How's your cocktail? It's really nice thank
you. So this is our last morning here. We will
have to go home. It's been a wonderful time. Time to say goodbye to this gorgeous place.
Yeah, I will miss it. Yes, me too. It's been an amazing time or it was an amazing time,
it's over now unfortunately. And as we mentioned in our Christmas gift guide Jörg last year
this place was on our wish list and we tried to make it come true so it was a real treat
for us. Yeah, for me it was one of our first highlights this year. Yes I think it was absolutely
incredible. So if you're looking for something very unique because this place is not like
your I I don't know this is not a regular hotel. Yeah if you love art, if you love something
special - antiques and things like that you will really love it. It's a bit more pricey
but really worth it I think so we hope you enjoyed the video and we'll see you again
very soon as always so take care. Take care. And until next time. Bye. Bye bye. Yeah, we've got to go. We have to go. Bye
bye. Bye.
