Keys! You got the keys? A bag of keys. And what else have you got? Some paperwork and some champagne. There we go. There's about 50 keys here in total. Seven months ago my fiancé and I purchased
an abandoned convent in the northwest of France for €468,000. Formerly owned by an aging community of nuns
who could sadly no longer afford to maintain and heat this 32,000 square foot building. What's it feel like to be the new owner of
this place, Gwen? As a result it sat abandoned for 15 years. During that time nature had reclaimed the
courtyard making it impossible to access some parts of the building. Despite being for sale for numerous years
nobody purchased the property due to its condition which only got worse with time. The courtyard resembled a jungle but after
many months of hard work and perseverance we were finally starting to take it back from
nature. (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) - The religious order of nuns
that built the convent in 1772 is the cantonesces of St. Augustine of the mercy of Jesus. The nuns lived at the convent and ran a local
hospital in a neighboring building. (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) Many of the original features have been hidden
due to modernization of the building over the years. However, we are slowly uncovering its secrets. (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) (soft music) After seven months, we have made
fantastic progress. The journey, however, has only just begun. (soft music)
