hey guys last video we uploaded was a house tour of the house that existed on this land before we had it torn down and then we built this house on top of it we did not buy another house excuse a lot of people sorry you guys it literally never crossed my mind to mention it was the previous house here because in my mind it is so far outside the realm of normal human behavior to buy a second house we have a mortgage today actually like maybe around here with maybe that like under floor the scene the dead bodies the dead things anyway we took these doors from the house before it was demolished because they're just so beautiful this is the cozy spot next to our gen con that we showed you guys in our floor plan before that we are thinking of maybe putting a booth here because i really love like booths or maybe putting a little study desk or something we didn't know exactly what we wanted to do with it yet so why not put our shoji screens here we can turn it into like a cute little japanese style spot we don't have anything in this house that fits this color wood so i think what we're going to do is paint this black which is actually still a normal color for shoji screens first step is removing the shoji gummy i have an idea yeah hold this camera oh he's gonna get a cat of course hi baby of course this is the this is the perfect size for haku [Music] oh [Music] he's just chilling under the table who wants to scratch shows your door just do it wait don't we want them to not associate this paper with scratching it's pretty strong our cats are so good they're not they're not just going to scratch it all right three two one what oh okay kill me night good good good huh this is really strong oh okay look at this cheating [Music] [Applause] i can only play this game once this is also kind of cool just like this it's like your next kyoto room you are such a good boy you're getting so good at it apparently there is a tool we can use to peel this paper off very easily a liquid yeah but why not too late all right lesson learned do not mess with the paper with kitties it makes it harder actually we don't even need that special remover it comes right off yay paper has been removed next step is sanding [Music] i was outside for all of 60 seconds and i've already swept through my bra this is why i did the circular sawing in our exercise room for the 100 of you who asked outdoors somewhere in japan is not a place you want to be welcome to japan i'm going back out i will see you when i'm done hopefully it won't be a sweaty mess i have finished fully sanding these i took one of these scrap pieces of wood and taped some sandpaper to it so that i could stay on the inside i need to do some like really terrible wood surgery and connect these like a frankenstein piece of wood i have successfully violated these shoji screens by sewing off the ends look at how these were constructed this is so amazing this tiny edge here was beveled so that it fits in perfectly i love it all right there's probably a better way to do this all right i could just have these sitting up for a little bit next up filler [Applause] whoops oh no this is worse than us oh god i got to stop doing this oh i forgot i was using both sides all right i you know i gotta put the camera down i'm gonna work on this we'll see where we get um i have committed horrible wood experimentation i have frankenstein different pieces of wood together [Music] so i offered rachel to help her sand side part and i did it a little bit too much there's a little bit of gap it's not flat anymore so we're gonna try to fix it by using this good piece it is morning and the filler has mostly dried so it is once again time to go sand this frankinchoji much straighter than it was yesterday it kind of worked [Music] yep [Music] whoa [Music] okay once again some of our friends who left japan left us their tent so this is now going to be our spray shield tent inside of our exercise room thank you cece smells like rotten fish because it was used at our beach cleanups very very strongly like fish this way i'm not going to have to clean anything else we can use our air conditioner oh my god my wife is now darth vader look at his face mitchell breathe breathe breathe breathe out [Laughter] [Music] oh haku loves you [Music] [Music] once i spray a little bit you have to start filming and leave it around so you don't breathe it in [Music] curious babies thank you so scared but so curious you're so cute firstly i'm done i'll have to do a number more layers and of course turn it upside down but it's very quick spray paintings done it works really well i think they're beautiful i think so too i really love how you can see the grain of wood through it i didn't realize that would be so visible otherwise i would have put more effort into oh i have to show this okay let's go you just want chicken otherwise i would have put more effort into um hiding the wood filler that i use but uh it's not that bad and from far you can't really tell so next up is putting the shoji screen on yeah it shows you a cool one with bamboo on it but before that we need to take a quick break with our sponsor here it's our sponsor thank you to sakurako for sponsoring our videos and helping fund our diy projects and pay for our mortgage sakurako is a monthly authentic artisan japanese snack box that contains 20 treats from japan every month the theme is different this month is kyoto moon festival it's creamy in japan of course they see rabbits in the moon which is why you'll see lots of bunnies with skinny stuff and in traditional uh japanese designs they're making mochi yeah yeah they're making mochi it's really cute yeah kyoto is probably known as like the most traditional place in japan they still have lots and lots of historical buildings one thing you sometimes notice is that the siding is charred black it's called yakisugi and it was a way to make the siding of houses waterproof this kind of matte black is actually a fairly traditional color for things although we didn't burn we just sprayed yeah we just sprayed it well we got this month oh rabbits soccer co works with and supports local snack makers um we're actually kind of hoping we can go interview some of them yeah one day soon i think that would be really cool june you're going to love this oh pudding yeah i'm going to love it i want to try this one the tea this month is hojicha and i'm excited about the dish ah this is so pretty oh and this one's beautiful wait yeah that's really pretty i really like this pokey's on the wheel again see he walks on it for like a second and then he meows he's like look i did it give me the food that's pretty look it this is beautiful it looks like it has matcha inside [Music] oh it's so good yeah this is good oh this is iwatsuka i like kinako mochi i love it anything from you let's go that goes it almost melts on your towel i love this cracker i've never had anything that texture before i thought these are the same but they're actually different this is wasabi pistachio [Music] at the beginning and then it blends into a really smooth pistachio yeah and then the nut underneath oh can we find a bag of this [Music] if you're interested in trying soccer deco especially this amazing box this is so beautiful yeah i like that one really i want to like have this one on display oh no this paw is in the bowl i gotta wash it you can get five dollars off your first sakura coat box using our code and link in our description box thank you again so much to sakura co for sponsoring us i really if we're gonna do sponsors i really like i really like doing these smack boxes it's so much fun for us yeah of course let's finish these and we can make our little traditional japanese cozy spot i'm so excited it's gonna look amazing you guys [Music] good boy so this is the shoji paper we got it has bamboo on it they had like a sakura and clouds and dragons there's one row of bamboo in the middle and i think what we're gonna do is put them off to the side so that when you see both shoji screens the bamboo is kind of like coming in from the sides i'm just gonna use boxing tape roll back up maggie [Music] what's up i feel like there was some cabinet powder left in the corner okay okay okay see how this works there's a little dip in the middle um i don't know this is satisfying mess me up oh great job handed over work of the glue to june because i am incapable of drawing straight lines jun is doing much less much better job i'm just going to stay here and watch you while i drink coffee thanks jun that worries maybe you should do this part too i trust you more than me no it messes up a lot of your projects just like standing but if you mess this up i can blame you instead of me i love you i love you yeah it is you lived in japan long enough now you're doing shoulder paper yourself this paper is actually so thick that i i think without cutting it it's not going to press down on the edges oh my god this is horrible no one ever look at the back side of this look at this i'm a freaking monster okay okay okay okay okay moment of truth [Music] oh it is pretty it looks great there's one black spot we can turn it on we can just use a rag to clean okay oh my god i made a shorty screen i mean i didn't make it i just redid it yeah but it looks way nicer yeah actually there's several black spots this is a nice recycle i can see the bamboo it's very pretty let's clean the floor okay i'm working on the second screen while june is conducting surgery in a spot that got stained and i was unable to eraser it out all right i'm gonna move this cabinet over there [Applause] [Music] i got a kitty behind the screen shadow cat yeah we'll see captain silver bunnies we found this light which is currently somewhat popular in japan it's sold at a number of different places and i love it i love it so much we've been keeping it here and i think it'll still work with all of this [Music] no japanese ceiling lights have these hooks so it's super easy to attach or detach light nice so quick give us light june so pretty you asked me to film here i like it hi pt what's up nope i got the extension cable out so yeah right there oh no we had a little bonsai we made sure it was safe for cats but pokey already ate the largest leaf no more eating bonsai pokey [Music] he came straight here to eat it of course straight here i like having the ob directly over the slipper rack but then we need to move this more centered on the wall like here wait that's pokey yeah how easy is it to open this door if the rack is this close very easy this is where we've been keeping any cardboard we get so we can take it to one of the recycled dumpsters this was one of the ends of the shoji screens i drilled holes through it for string and i drilled the bottom side much larger so that i can tie a knot and then have it like disappear into the hole so that it's hidden nice oh how could i find something very japanese there we go i was thinking that maybe this would be a good spot to put you know sure oh baby hina welcome to the house i really really like it i think it turned out so cool i turned out well i'm proud of myself good job let's keep working on our new projects yeah i have so many more projects to go [Music] and with the curtains closed super cool it actually still works with the really pretty light blue during the day it's kakuy and at night it's cute and cozy yeah all right see you guys later bye thank you for watching bye
