Watch Me Teach! | A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A STUDENT TEACHER

[Music] [Music] [Music] do [Music] do [Music] [Music] good morning everyone so this is the outfit for today this dress is from h m a long time ago it kind of cinches at the waist and it's like an a-line skirt this jacket is from anthropology it's their pilcrow brand it's super comfortable and lightweight which is perfect for florida and then i have these little mule shoes they said crown vintage was the brand but i think i got him from like a dsw or kind of thing on sale oh my goodness that's my stomach growling i think it's time for [Music] breakfast [Music] good morning everyone and welcome back to my channel if you're new here my name is christy martin and this year i am doing my student teaching in west palm beach florida and this video is going to be a day in the life of a student teacher as you can see it's an early morning and start to the day but it is 7 20 right now and so i am headed off to my school and it's gonna be an awesome [Music] day [Music] [Music] i just got to school and i'm about to go in usually i'm like five minutes early um it's almost 7 40 because that's when i need to be in my classroom by today i'm teaching math reading um bible and social studies we're not doing science right now we're doing social studies so those are the four subjects that i'm teaching and i can't wait to see the kids today it's gonna be really fun and they actually have a reading test today so i think they're gonna do well i'm gonna start reading our friends who are coloring you can finish up coloring but i'm gonna start reading because most of our people are finished so this story is called my mouth is a volcano deliveries are gonna tell you what a volcano is on from my head onto my tongue oh what do you think is gonna happen let's see my tummy started to rumble then it started to grumble my words began to wiggle and then they did a jingle my tongue pushed all of my very important words onto my teeth and then my volcano all right he says hey mom fill his little bubble in a bubble with his gum well son the next time your important words are pushed onto your teeth by your tongue bite down hard and don't let them out take a deep breath push your words out through your nose and then when it's your turn to talk take a deep breath then breathe them back into your mouth will that work i guess only if you make it work said my mom so she's giving him a strategy she's like if you feel like you're gonna erupt you need to bite down close your mouth take a deep breath and breathe those words out right take that deep breath so that you can be ready for when you're cold on [Music] it is after school now and it's a typical florida afternoon where it rained like from three to four on and off so it's like not raining the whole time but i had aftercare and so i was like pulling the kids like under the cover and then letting them go play and then pulling them under the cover because they didn't want to stop playing their game and it's kind of a pain when we have to go inside because there's like nothing to do for them and so i kind of like feel bad so that's like my hair is just like a humid wet mess but it was fun and it is 403 now and i'm gonna go get some starbucks as a pick-me-up for the afternoon because i have some work that i need to get done when i get home so you know some motivation which is super helpful at this time in the day because i've been here since 7 40 and so i'm leaving now at four um because the school day goes till three which some public schools only go till two but here it's still three and then i have the hour of aftercare after um but it was overall good day um all my lessons went well they did stellar on their reading tests which was about sequencing so they had to be able to put the story in order so i was like a little bit nervous but it's a skill that they're getting way better at which is super exciting and then um for social studies we made some awesome maps that the kids made and i've been talking about map key and also about the compass rose and so those were two features on their maps because those are very important things so whatever they draw on their map they had to include in their map key and they did awesome with them they had some super cute and creative ideas so that was a fun project that we got to do so i'm headed to starbucks i have a grande americana with soy milk hot please yep thank you no that's it thanks i got it i got my americana with soy milk this is where it's at okay we got the coffee so now we're off to home to get comfy and get determined to do some lessons as well as some school work for my online courses and then maybe work out if we're feeling [Music] ambitious i just got home from school and now i am in my comfy clothes ready to do some work i have to look at the lessons that i'm going to teach tomorrow i plan them over the weekend so it's not really planning but it's like making sure i actually know what's going on before i teach them and i need to do my emails like respond to some people and then also a discussion for my college course online so i got a lot to do right now but at least i'm in comfy clothes usually i like to change right when i get home because i'm kind of tired of being in like actual like dressy clothes especially after quarantine where i wore like stuff like this every single day and i saw no one so anyway while i do my work though i have some pretty flowers to look at i just want to show you because i'm trader joe's and they're so beautiful look how pretty they are i just had to show you they're kind of like fall colors too which is really pretty but they're right by my desk so i can look at them while i do my work and not be as sad about it anyway let me show you what we're doing um for our lessons tomorrow in math they're doing 4.3 they're using um addition to subtract so they've been working on subtraction i didn't actually teach chapter two my ct did which chapter two was just subtraction and they did really well in their tests that they took this week so i think they're getting the concept of it this next chapter is teaching them strategies um to use for subtraction so if they like literally blank on the fact they can hopefully use a strategy to help them get to the answer which is interesting because when i was in school i feel like they were like just memorize the facts oh you don't know oh well so this is interesting that there's like actual strategies to use and to remember so i kind of like it but it's funny because i'm using a new way of math to teach like i'm teaching them a new way of math like i've never learned this before so i'm kind of learning along with them which has been fun and it's fun to see them grasp the concept so quickly they're pretty quick in math which has been really nice in social studies we're also doing map skills and land forms and look at the cutest project that i found for landforms obviously it's not my own idea i found it off the internet but i think it's going to be a great artifact for the students to have it looks like this and basically they're individual sheets of construction paper and you cut them out to the shape of the landform that they represent and then you staple it like a book and they get this cool little artifact thingy with all the names of the different land forms obviously they're first grade so they're basically in forms but i think if we talk about them as we go through the whole project it will be a good reminder of something that they can keep and remember the different land forms so this would be a guided like project if that makes sense so i think they're gonna really enjoy that this would be for tomorrow or next week because tomorrow is friday so depending on the time that we have but i would love to get that prep tonight for sure [Music] do [Music] all right i just got done with a run on the treadmill usually after school i try to do some sort of exercise because it's helped with my stress levels and also me not being anxious all the time so i figured okay if it's hoping that then i might as well continue to do it and obviously it's good for you um i don't do it every day though because sometimes i get home and i'm just completely exhausted and i just lay on my bed but today i did do that which was really good and now i'm going to pop in the shower and then we'll have some dinner what time is it dinner time dinner time what do you have kyle i have one fresh chocolate that my mom made this is really good yeah they're good yay why are you wearing a shield in the house that's what i want to ask because i go to palm beach atlantic university and i don't know if i could i might have killed it on me now they're doing anything wrong just this thing's bad no just that i came home so i don't want to spread anything yeah very thoughtful very thoughtful we're having some fish tacos we're really good really good i look good thanks mom [Music] it is that time of the night it is time to go to sleep i'm all ready for bed and i like to have my quiet time at night um because i don't wake up early enough on the weekdays but sometimes on the weekends i'll have them in the morning because i'll have more time um but you know every now and again you get way too tired and you just end up falling asleep but tonight i wanted to i'm doing this one and so i'll just click on it and then i'll you see i've missed two days i don't do it every night obviously but you can do your devotional and then it will give you the passage of
