armor in Warframe is better than you might think but why well simply put armor isn't great at mitigating massive hits which is what a lot of the highend game players look at they look at the hits they take few hours into a steel path run and it's not even that armor isn't good at mitigating those hits it's just that the investment required to mitigate those hits is either impossible or not worth it so a lot of people that mostly utilize invulnerability mechanics to stay alive through those kinds of runs talk down on Armor because it just can't do this kind of stuff very effectively but armor is actually very good even a relatively small amount of armor can provide a lot of damage reduction to either you or the enemies if you look at this lovely graph which I had shamelessly buered from Wikipedia you can see that even a relatively small amount of armor like 300 is going to provide a massive 50% damage reduction this is why against heavily armored high level units there is a massive difference between stripping most of their armor with something like corrosive and stripping away all of it the calculation by the way for determining the damage reduction you get from armor is net armor divided by net armor + 300 so if we have 300 armor it's 300 divided 300 + 300 so it's 300 divided by 600 which is .5 or in other words 50% that is a ton of damage reduction for sometimes no investment at all because a lot of warframes come with at least 300 armor by default like if your War frame has at least 300 armor you are taking less than half the damage at all times it's why some warframes like V prime kvo or corvex feel really damn tanky out the box especially since the armor that we use normally refer to as tenno armor it's completely neutral to damage so we have no weaknesses or strengths whereas armored enemies do this makes armor a very reliable form of defense for us the problem is that it falls off at high levels eventually especially in steel path the enemy damage is is going to be so high you cannot possibly get enough armor to mitigate enough of it to just not die and while you can help it out by adding in other sources of damage reduction or getting more health or health recovery no matter what you do it's eventually not going to be enough this is what people have latched onto it's eventually not enough but if you're not into level cap runs and you just do your archons or maybe do some fissures in steel paath and all that armor is absolutely fine it might not be the best but it does the job you just need to combo it with the right kind of stuff you can't just get a lot of armor and stand there menacingly hoping to survive that's not going to work you're going to get slapped and die so you need some recovery like healing return a life strike Arcane Grace or you just need to generate a lot of Health orbs but you need to do something there's a reason why when new endgame content comes out you will see a lot of inaros players at first because it's the easiest way to survive stuff he has decent armor and a ton of Health which is a great combo so please don't discard armor if it provides a lot of damage reduction it's very easy to use you just need to put on the right setup and it Stacks nicely on top of other defensive layers now let's move on to enemy armor which is bit different mainly because the enemies can have one of three different types of armor there is infested sine ferite armor and alloy armor infested suu is an armor type you don't see an awful lot but it's possessed by some infested mainly the Deo specific units the Hemo site as well as zelot units it takes 25% more damage from puncturing Cod it takes 50 % more damage from radiation but it takes 50% less damage from blast next up we have alloy armor which is used by higher tier grineer unit so stuff like Elite lancers bombards and naoms but also Corpus Buras and a lot of bosses as well and it takes 15% more damage from puncture 25% more damage from cold and 75% more damage from radiation and takes 50% less damage from slash electricity and magnetic damage and finally we have ferite armor which is used by lower tier grener unit so regular l ERS butchers and heavy gunners that kind of stuff a handful of Corpus units like oxum o sprays for example it's also used by some bosses as well as kual hes and finally it's used by necrox on the murmur faction now ferite armor takes 50% more damage from puncture and 75% more damage from corrosive whilst taking 15% less damage from slash and 25% less damage from blast now these damage bonuses are more important than they might seem at first because they don't just increase the amount of damage you do to that Armor class they also determine how much armor you are going to ignore with them so if for example you're firing at a bombard that uses alloy armor with radiation damage you are doing 75% more damage and you're ignoring 75% of the bombards armor this is why choosing the right damage type when fighting armored units makes a huge difference and it's why in some scenarios ions are a great example of this stripping most of the enemy's armor is better than stripping all of it because if you strip away all of their armor they lose that Armor class and you lose the bonus damage so it's sometimes let me say that again sometimes better to strip most of the enemy's armor instead of all of it one thing I do want to stress here though is that this is checked for each damage type separately so if you are fighting that bombard but you have a mixture of radiation and impact radiation's going to get bonus damage and it's going to ignore armor whilst the impact gets neither as it is neutral when it comes to alloy armor or all armor as a matter of fact even with all that said though it's usually a good idea to strip away all of the enemy's armor this is because enemies at high levels can get ludicrous amounts of armor because the way enemy armor scales in Warframe is every enemy has a base amount of armor that scale depending on the enemy's level with eximus units scaling faster than regular units this is the graph for the base game so star chart and you can see that it starts to taper off right around level 75 at which point normally units will have about 11 times their base armor and eximus units about 16 times their base armor to put this into perspective a level 10 heavy gunner has roughly about 500 armor giving them a 62.8 n% damage reduction at level 50 they will have 2,200 armor giving them an 88.1 15% damage reduction and by the time they get to level 100 they will have almost 65,000 armor giving them a 95.5% damage reduction and that's just in the normal game in steel path all health and armor values are multiplied by 2.5 times on enemies this is why when it comes to fighting armor units you either want to use the right element or you want to strip away their armor speaking of which there is a wide variety of things that we can use to strip away enemy armor the most common ones are the corrosive projection Aura corrosive Brocks heat procs operator and Warframe abilities companion abilities and precepts and shuttering impact corrosive projection will simply reduce the enemy armor by 18% corrosive procs will strip up to 80% of the enemy armor at 10 Stacks though this can be pushed up to 100% if you're running hydroid or you can increase the maximum number of corrosion Stacks by running the new Emerald chart and heat BRS always strip 50% of the enemy's armor now while the armor strip from corrosive projection is permanent the strip from corrosive and heat procs is temporary so once the procs run out the enemy will regain all of its armor also all three of these stack multiplicatively not additively which in this case is not a good thing because it means that if you strip 80% of the enemy's armor with corrosive procs and then you proc heat on them it will remove 50% of the remaining armor so the enemy will be left with 10% of their armor Warframe operator and companion abilities are all different which is why I'm not going to go through all of them because it would easily make this video twice if not Thrice as long some of them strip less armor by default some of them more most of them are affected by strength some of them require a companion weapon some of them are specific companion some of them are permanent some of them are temporary so let's move on to shuttering in impact which strips five armor from the enemy every time they're hit with a melee strike of any kind that does any amount of impact damage now you might be thinking well Mr internet man that doesn't sound very good at all you just told us that heavy gunners can have thousands of armor well here is the thing shuttering impact is very special it doesn't strip the enemy's total armor it strips their base armor which is why no matter the level it will always strip 100% of butcher's armor because they have five base armor now shuttering impact isn't all that useful nowadays because we have really good ways of stripping armor that are faster but it is still used in some nichen arios because it just works on everything and it's mostly used on gun blades because when you fire a gun blade every single pallet counts as a melee hit so it will strip five base armor and that's pretty much all I know about armor so I thank you very much for watching as always guys I hope you enjoyed the video and found it helpful and if there's anything else you would like to add to this feel free
