hi welcome to prime time pickleball my name is jordan Briones and in today's video we're going to answer the question should we always watch the ball off of our paddle every time we hit the ball there's a lot of questions about this keeping your eye on the ball a lot of statements that we should do but is that really possible and should we be doing that in this video we're gonna cover that but before that hit that subscribe button if you're not subscribed to this channel and also hit that Bell icon so that you can be notified every time that we release a new video without any further ado let's jump right in alright so as you can see not on the court today a lot of us are at home and there are a lot of ways that we can still keep up our game and improve in the game of pickleball without being on the court and hitting against the wall or hitting against some surface that you can get repetitions in if you don't have like a significant other that you're playing with in your garage or something else this is a way that you can do that and improve your game okay so the question that many people they wonder and they ask is is every time that we hit the ball should we be keeping our eye on that ball every single time and for the majority of the shots in the baseline and when the when the ball is a lot slower I definitely track the ball and especially on third shots when I'm on the baseline I track it and I try to really keep my eye on it because the ball is moving really slow and I'm and also so I can set up and really watch that ball and have a good contact okay but when we're up at the net and you'll especially notice this on fast volleys the question is are you actually keeping your eye on the ball watching it bounce off your paddle and to your opponent and really the answer is no what you can do to test this out all you have to do is find the wall that you can hit some very fast volleys against and that will kind of show you that you actually don't need to hit the I mean you start you don't need to keep your eye on the ball every time it's almost impossible because the ball is moving so fast so I'll kind of show you right here one thing you'll notice you can actually try it I've actually tried to keep my eye on the ball as I'm falling really fast against the wall but your eyes actually move a lot slower than the ball so what you'll notice is I'll keep a focal point on the wall then I'm I'm I'm steady focused on that point maybe it's the the part on the wall that I'm trying to hit and my peripheral vision naturally will pick up the ball and and I can keep my eye on the ball that way using my peripheral okay so let's let's show that right now okay so this is a good drill you can do just four hands right now I'm gonna just hit four hands trying to really find a rhythm it's all about finding rhythm and finding a pace a comfortable pace that you can keep hitting that volume so like before I before I start like I said each wall is different this wall does not respond very well it's just sheetrock so if I actually hit it here it's just gonna drop to the floor so I'm actually gonna keep my I've always a little a little higher okay and this is just working on my volleys I'm not really worried about this line or anything here we go and go faster but so you can go slower faster but just do something that you're comfortable with and one thing that I've experienced and even hitting against the wall is my hand will actually get really tired and in the beginning what I was doing is I was gripping this my high current pressure was really tight so this will actually work on softening really softening up that grip pressure so that you can actually last in endure you know volley longer and longer so what go ahead out go ahead and try this for you know 10 20 seconds see how that feels maybe take a break and then try it again okay so making sure my contact point is out in front that's really important okay and then my grip pressure is is pretty light you know like a three to four because I've hit against the wall doing volleys like this and my grip pressure was maybe a little bit harder like five to six or seven and you're gonna get really here your hands get really fatigued all right so same thing on the backhand side all right so yeah this is one way you'll notice really quickly if you're actually trying to watch that ball off your paddle it's gonna be very difficult or really close impossible okay so now for this next drill that's really great I've been doing four hands controlling it right this takes a lot of control to keep it on your floor inside and then back hands to keep it on your backhand side now I'm going to alternate hit my forehand then hit my backhand and hit my forehand and then hit my back end when alternating and this is a really great control drill because I actually have to hit this ball and I have to try to get it to my backhand so that I could hit a backhand and when it goes on my backhand I'm going to try to move that ball to go to my forehand okay so I'm not running all over the place so this is a very very good drill to do all right here we go playing my feet aren't cement okay they're they're moving so what I could get a good contact right in front of me relative to my body and this even works if you have a two-handed backhand you could practice the same thing okay so just like a boxer you've probably seen them on that speed bag gets a rhythm and really works on their hand I this is a probably one of the best drills that you can do by yourself on the wall switch it up do four hands do backhands and then alternate left and right but yeah if you enjoyed this video make sure to share with your friends and give it a like and you know if you want
