Vietnam Airforce Survival Rations & Pilots Kit MRE Review US 1969 Abandon Aircraft Food Packet

all right what we got here is the food pack is survival abandoned aircraft which came in two parts as you can see and also the personal survival kit this is a pilot survival kit these were put in SRU 21 /p survival vests and similar and I'm pretty sure they both have ration items inside like this one for instance you can see here chocolate bar I know that says chocolate bar we're going to check these out first starting with the pilot survival kits although these are extremely similar in appearance they're from totally different eras this one here I think is from the 50s or 60s and the personal survival kit came in two parts and they were originally placed in a cardboard box you can a came in part 1 and part 2 although these are from different eras they're pretty much the same thing but we're also going to see what's inside it might be different contents ok let's start with the old one alright the pretty thick plastic but there's a small perforation here we're just going to open this up has a pretty strong looking industrial tape around it just to open it like this it should be easy enough there we go I wonder what's inside this thing all right well you get it contents list oh it smells really weird smells like old medicine personal survival type PSK - to complete let's check out looks like something burst in there find out what this is okay looks like bullion cubes or something that burst interesting now let's check out this contents list first adhesive plaster matches compressed gods bouillon cubes a vial of terramycin tablets which is like antibiotics sweet chocolate ration bar dextroamphetamine sulfate tablets whoa a vial of a PC tablets when with that is a tube of tetra cane ophthalmic ointment a vial of chloroquine phosphate tablets which that's like anti malaria treatment and preventative five each bandage absorbent adhesive one each foil pure aluminum directions hold to make container for heating fluids or cooking pretty cool a package of soap tissues wrapped and a sewing kit made by Fras surgical manufacturer corporation New York New York awesome some weird stuff in here that tetra cane ophthalmic ointment must be some sort of numbing agent here's the chloroquine philosophy that ball was like hardly even closed check this up in malarial zone take one tablet per week for treatment take one tablet for six days I guess that says eight tablets very cool look at that very neat alright oh boy here we go I know what this is go pills these things were given out to pilots and probably still are given out the pilots on long bombing missions check this out read the pause it and read I love this part they should not be given to hysterical or severely wounded men these things before dextra there was Benzedrine sulfate and Benzedrine sulfate look at that they're still intact that all six five milligram instant release cheese they were given out during World War Two as well oh wow 1955 but back then it was Benzedrine sulfate made by smith decline in french laboratories i wonder if this one's made by smith decline in french as well no strong cob and company interesting different company all right it was big little block everything melted together because of the bullion something else i don't want to wreck it but yeah it was the plaster the adhesive plaster and here matches leave them in that packet adhesive plaster it's all turning the one block that's no good anymore here's the aluminum foil pretty cool I'm gonna keep that folded up that's perfect for a survival situation for eating up water so tissue that's really nice man this is awesome here's the sewing kit very useful you could actually suture something up too if you needed to and use the which where is that tetra cane because you could use that as a local anesthetic as well oh wow look at the blue yawn how that's just it um it warped the APC bottle tap yeah this bottle is like warped from it see that it's just aspirin and caffeine that's the APC tablets if you ever wonder if you're looking at an old pilot survival kit you're like what's a PC tablets it's just aspirin oh and what's that found a sudden sorry it's blurred out and caffeine so who knows could have some narcotic effect but I don't think so I don't know what that one medication is ah sweet chocolate ration bar with weird bullion on it like I don't know it's pretty cool though check out the ingredients I'm sure that thing's pretty nasty by this point here's the bullion not gonna consume any of that or any of this most likely bandage compress cool that's a nice one bullion stain and all still a nice bandage here's the terramycin antibiotics oh no it's for diarrhea or or infection I thought it was an antibiotic I'm pretty sure it is yeah really cool made in 1965 so look at this right this was manufactured in 1955 this was manufactured 1965 these were already 10 years old I'm gonna get these band-aids out of here to kind of stuck old-school band-aids Johnson & Johnson brand looks like you get like five of them yeah nice check this out touch your cane ophthalmic ointment yeah look at that oh wow it's Kylie get off the side see if this stuff like numbs oh man I got like bullion stuff on like yeah geez I don't feel any numbing effect I don't think it's active anymore but then again I don't know for sure too bad about that little leak let's check out and see who kinda has that light all right let's see if this stuff numbs at all like wore a gel even or anything no it just smells weird doesn't do anything this is ophthalmic ointment so I don't know if that means eyedrops or if this is just cream that you could put it on just about anything too bad about this it's just been sitting like that for a long time I don't think since air got to it I don't know if it's just inactive anymore but it doesn't numb anything I don't know what it does anymore alright so that's the old personal survival kit - let's check out the other one alright let's check this one out well this looks nicer so you get so you get aluminum foil this one as well they still do that ah nice our box chicken and it feels like it might have gotten compromised it's just a list of stuff here might be your item list yep check that out pause it if you need to matches another air box chicken broth nice little palm press bandage - cool camouflage flexible saw very nice perfect for cutting small branches etc oh this is a nice little morale boost right here this is pretty cool get three wet naps moist towelettes and probably not the most useful allocation to the space provided but still a nice touch and then this is rubber gloves bunch of uses for that water storage etc water purification tablets big bottle of them - this is more like it you need this many 50 iodine tubs little band-aids cool fishing kit and the line is already done up and yeah that's real nice and then some tape adhesive tape you do a lot with that adhesive tape more than just patching yourself up or something there's so many things you can do with that with all this stuff it's about improvising this here is going to be improving your mood making you essentially motivated to improve your situation I mean you got to face it you're surviving where for your app and it's not a good situation you need to stay positive and motivated and chances are you're low on food anyway so something like that is definitely going to be useful this tetra came back when it was still active that with the sewing kit to do a suture and tend to numb the area that's perfect alright so that's a nice little look into these personal survival kits from the 60s to modern now let's go check out that food packet survival abandon aircraft alright fellow youtuber tars two cars sent me this food packets Survival abandoned aircraft and we've got two parts to this ration thing is really interesting check this out part 1 and part 2 yeah the first part has a key on the bottom and it's just like your standard old-school spam Canton this food packet was intended for escape and evasion activities after evacuation of long-range aircraft and was used in training by the air force survival school developed at the request of the Strategic Air Command in 1950 it consisted of highly concentrated high-fat high-protein high caloric density food bars the si si stipulated providing about three thousand four hundred seventy five calories in the two metal cans that constituted each packet the packet weighed 34 ounces and despite its name it was not strictly a survival ration and its composition made it unsuitable for consumption when drinking water was limited after one of its major components the meat food product bars had been produced by only one manufacturer procurement became virtually impossible when the manufacturer altered his equipment in the 70s and procurement authorization was discontinued in 1977 all right now let's check them out see what's inside all right we got that key lifted up like this with that tab yeah no hiss all right check that out doesn't smell too bad let's see what's inside this thing alright okay three fruitcake bars these right off the bat don't look like they're in nearly as good a condition as the ones that rule reacts at me last year these look like they might have spoiled but we'll see they feel hard and they definitely look like they've oxidized quite a bit okay right eat cereal style be class to van Berg milling company I always had those funny names yeah there's some there's some indicators of oxidation nothing too serious still we'll try that we'll see what we got going on there's style B class five so different two different kinds of cereal bars dehydrated meat bar right leave that thing the yeah March 12th 1968 so that's getting there it's a 48 year old meat bar geez look at that thing get two of them in this and then you get a bunch of sugar cubes looks like you get seven Domino's sugar cubes look at that that's pretty cool and here the drink mixes cool oh well this is chili powder onions dehydrated cool those feel fine Hey look instant coffee feels perfect instant tea that's a cool one nestle another instant t another dehydrated onions and three three more coffees so you get four coffees and two teas very nice and a recipe sheet check that up it's weird they give you two recipe sheets interesting okay now let's check out the second can now I thought there was going to be a p38 can opener in here because you can see here in the original Natick food lab stock photo specific rash and there is a p38 so I'm going to open it from the bottom and maintain this can because this is still good for display alright check this out there we go more dehydrated meat bars see if we can get them out yeah there's one the other two will be easy to get out okay there you go those smell okay just a light smell of what just smells like dried meat can looks good inside this made January 1969 so it's over 47 years old check out these meat bars so you get five of these meat bars and they're extremely calorically dense and they actually do require quite a bit of water to process all right let's get this out onto a tray nice okay so we're going to first start with the drinks I want to get them mixed up we got instant tea and instant coffee get four coffees and two teas it's a nice amount of drinks check out that tea and now the coffee drop it sugar cube in each of them you all right let's try those out check out that tea it's got a nice color smells great smells perfectly fresh well that's delicious that's perfect tea it's not bitter that sugar cube really is perfect just one is perfect for sweetness try out the coffee instant I love this stuff and this one's no exception tastes perfectly fresh and almost it's a I almost feel like it's an acquired taste it's mildly acidic and nutty mmm mmm that's just amazing all right let's check out a fruitcake bar look at that thing you know it's kind of weird the sugars separated on this one check out an older video of mine it's literally all the same components as this ration but who sent him by a good friend of mine who had to open one himself and it was in much better shape because this fruit bar here so much more oh it smells man but it smells like sweet - doesn't smell all that bad we'll see let's try this out kinda looks good though tastes fine tastes a little bit old and oxidized it's decent fruitcake and you know I really liked the texture to it it's not that much harder or you know unpleasant to chew on than say that last one that I had which was absolutely perfect and it was the best fruitcake I'd ever had honestly hmm it has a strong raisin flavor and almost like a nice whole grain whole wheat sort of cookie it is slightly rancid I'm starting to pick up under my tongue after eating half of the thing that it's ever so slightly rancid which is kind of a shame on hmm I'm still tempted to eat more of it all right let's set some of these meat bars to the side we're going to prepare them and all the ways listed here on this a recipe sheet you can brown it make a meat gruel or you can just eat it as is yeah nice so we're actually going to set them to the side because we're going to check out the cereal bars try to class by first check that out now it smells good might be a little stale it is a little bit oxidized from its original color which should be lighter um it's good oh yeah hmm so good makes me want to follow up with some fruitcake mmm yeah it crumbles down into a nice crunchy lightly sweet mild cornflakes cereal flavor that is very satisfying hmm it's not thirst provoking I'll say that alright let's try out class - this one's a little bit darker in appearance weird dense block of cereal so cool alright this one smells a little funky it feels a little more stale hmm oh that's delicious that is absolutely fantastic this thing tastes almost better than the other one it has a slightly more bold flavor to it and hmm this one's like bran the other ones like corn flake this one's like bran flake hmmm has a slight malty flavor to it it's sweet sweeter than the other one has more of a brand flake opposed to corn flake kind of flavor hmm I'd give this one 3 out of 5 stars easy this one easy 4 out of 5 missing I don't know it's pretty kind of rough but mmm you know what I feel confident in this thing hoping this meat bar is still edible okay dehydrated meat bar this was packaged November 22nd 1968 my dad turned 15 mean when this was packaged that was 15 years old cool check that out click this thing it'll make these anymore wow I can see some fats almost look like they separate it a little bit smells a little strange just a little bit off look at that dehydrated meat bar oh yeah I had one of these before it was really good let's see if this one's held up as well look at that it's very dense this is a lot I mean three ounces of dehydrated meat this breaks out to a lot of food trust me breaks out to a lot all right let's try out a small piece for starters well it's kind of a large piece but here let's just buy and a half of this mmm it's perfectly fine yeah meat bar is kind of bland on its own but you could eat it like this it's totally edible hmm it's not bad it tastes like relatively flavorless jerky it's not salty enough there's no real seasoning but you have that as an option and it's not thirst provoking on its own hmm I'm noticing that all right we're going to brown the meat and we're going to make a gruel all right we're going to griddle up part of this meat bar let's get this out onto the griddle like I'd mentioned the last time I'd done this with a dehydrated meat bar it really reminds me of the Taco Bell ground beef chili powder and onion powder I'm gonna add in some of this give it a little kick the fats will render down a little bit toss it around a little that's starting to look good it's almost ready all right let's get that back out onto the tray all right that looks good check this stuff out it's you know browned up it smells kind of weird I remember that smell from the last one it was like slightly fowl or something just a little bit like a little bit of rancidity and I didn't get sick from eating that stuff but it's just it's not the best smell in the world doesn't smell like ooh good fresh cooked beef it tastes okay but it just you know while it's still hot let's give it a shot here check that out yeah I'm just kind of dry a little really the seasoning helps a lot I probably could have used more so using honestly mmm I like it though hold on yeah it's not bad seasoning really helps mmm yeah it's really decent actually starting to grow on me you could eat it slowly all right we're going to make the cruel thin this hot water you can kind of see how the fats separated the crumbles up very easily see that all right and get one more bite of this one yeah I really like when you add the seasoning makes that stuff a lot better all right now let's add a bunch of chili powder to this they could use it make a nice soup I don't want this to be a real thick gruel I want this to be a little bit more of a soup we'll get all that chili powder this is definitely going to do the trick now oh yeah it's going to be super good I love spicy food so you know can't ever go wrong with it definitely curious what ails you see there's these large chunks looks like a meatball mmm instantly smells like a decent soup like look at that let's try that out mmm the seasoning definitely helps that looks good looks pretty savory mmm oh yeah that's delicious this is a way to go here mmm with that it starts to break down oh this is great and you can drink this it's like soup oh yeah it's like a nice beef stock with some solid pieces of beef in there mmm oh yeah I mean 47 year-old beef and it's decent it's really not bad I'll have to say I like the soup a lot more yeah it's really good
