1985 Dutch 24hr Ration MRE Review Vintage Taste Testing Military Combat Food Pack Oldest Eaten

this is a vintage Dutch army 24-hour combat ration this one here was seven by my friend Cedric and he said this specific ration was produced in 1989 and so let's give it a look and this is the lunch and breakfast component here that can just behind this box that's the dinner component four hundred gram Maine let's check this out and we get this content sheet here check that out wow that's a big pack right there okay so this here are the sugar and chocolate and all that good stuff that's like an accessory package we'll be checking that out in just a sec and some lemon citrus drink tea bag oh wow okay so if some things burst I can feel something sticky in here looks like some Jam and here's another Jam and again looks like there's just something on it so we'll find out what has leaked in here tissue paper okay so this here is some sort of spreadable processed cheese okay once to pates not bad then get five instant coffees then coffee white nurse and creamer feels like it's hardened kind of solidified and then three more dreamers here they all feel compromised and a huge box of biscuits look at that Wow 250 gram box of biscuits I'm going to check this out next oh that smells funny smells like mint kind of like slightly old chocolate and like I don't know what that's kind of interesting fruit a mix so this is like interesting here it's like a vintage Mentos chew that's cool and they feel perfectly fine dandy gum I guess yeah chewing gum cool neat then some instant soup second instant soup not bad that's always nice matches check those out those are pretty cool all right some seven gram packs a sugar we get one two three four packs of sugar so far salt and bullion powder dexterous tablets cool this is that is some beautiful chocolate that has to be one of the nicest packs Wow look at that 46% coca very cool beautiful and three more packs of sugar and look at that boil blind pouch looks like everything held up real well in this accessory packet it looks great check out all that food I'm going to first start off with breakfast all right we're starting the day right here with some of that pate and jam that lemon powder and some instant soup and Eagle box of biscuits so let's get this out onto a tray nice and I want to start out with those biscuits and hey look at that that just gave away its date March 23rd 1985 Wow definitely going back in time with this one okay the biscuits smell okay but Pennock in there in a foil pack so looks like you get six packs of biscuits and I'm going to use two for each meal oh the smell funny kind of smell like rancid graham crackers they look pretty robust oh yeah they're definitely rancid but kind of a slightly Pleasant sweet smell to them to the oh geez hmm well that's kind of weird um well wait there's like phases of flavor to that I mean there's definitely some rancid oils to it but then there's like a nice little rye and lightly sweet undertone I mean I can tell you that these things they used to be amazing I mean they're not much now but anyway let's check out this pate I can't imagine this being all too good oh my gosh look at that it looks okay I guess Oh doesn't smell okay though yeah oh oh oh that's making me wheeze hahaha yeah the the pates um yeah that's a note go the pates have definitely been seen better days let's check out this um lemon powder yeah the pate Wow does it say 1978 type-b who knows when this was made I think this was made January 1978 I'm not sure hey I guess it makes sense the pate oh yeah literally he's making me wheeze like there was just something not even I don't know how well yeah it smells like them oops look at that that's nice it's caked up there and spots oh and it smells funny too well I'm gonna definitely go for some coffee hopefully this is still good I got high hopes for some Dutch actually this is Douwe Egberts Wow hey so let's see how this is looking looking good hey I like when that happens we're definitely gonna be adding both packs cuz I can imagine that's probably good for about 6 ounces right there so we're going to go both smells nice - how's a yacht Taster's Choice kind of way about it and total 14 grams of sugars while we're at it I'm gonna skip the creamer considering it was pretty well caked up hey let's check out the cherry jam I don't know how this will be but hey look at the hat looks fine I'm kind of weird and swelled like there's some sort of like weird buildup and layer under it like air I want to pop it it's like a bubble here let's J let's poke it yeah look oh yeah like caved in there was like air see that huh tastes fine okay so we'll check out the other one here which looks like cranberry or maybe that's a red currant hmm they both have gotten dark over time that's for sure let's check out that soup instant soup mix is probably pretty gnarly oh yeah that's just an old dry milk smell Deluxe and it's its own weird kind of deal going on you know old dry milk sit if you don't know the smell you don't know how to recognize it it'll actually be dangerous it could literally kill you that right there don't know what's in it but I can tell you this I've had old dry milk before and it always makes me throw up within about an hour maybe two but I always get it out first one time I left it in my system too long and got the cloud sweats that night yeah I've had worse so I'm definitely stir this first look at the little bits like floating around there at the bottom not even little just like huge chunks this one makes it alright well yeah let's try it out anyway oh well that's definitely turned a little bit but I mean I've had Dutch lemon drink before and it's you know delicious that that spoiled that's like B vitamins or something that I've turned I don't know what let's check out the geo separation hmm yeah I gotta try this out oh wait hmm it's nice it's sweet and tangy the juice part okay the thin part that this part is good tastes like juice mmm the other part is boring it tastes like just a gelatinous nothing so it's like separated I can imagine this is about the same no that's not the same that's I don't know what happened there it's kind of sweet and spoiled like it's got the really weird bitter and musty kind of flavor to it I don't get that that's that's just not appetizing whatsoever so let's check this out all right no actually that floating thing oh yeah yeah it's definitely not even going to try it the smell is so off-putting I can definitely yeah it make you sick if you if you consume that you would you would definitely get sick and I don't have health insurance still so I'm not gonna mess with it that coffee though the coffee's written yeah see the coffee smooth this is good mmm oh yeah makes you want to take another buy this weird biscuit hey see that's fine well what is still edible so far for breakfast the coffee crackers maybe this Jam the red currant that's it the rest of it it's a no-go okay so I decided to put lunch and dinner together let's get this out onto a tray nice all right so I want to first start with the peas and pork and potatoes gonna open this up the old-fashioned way you sure face it away just in case no hiss okay cool no hits at all oh man there's a rush if I just smelled Peas that's the first thing I smelled like serious peas maybe just a little bit too strong okay see how it's looking thirty-year-old meal Wow kind of a surprise smells pretty metallic though looks okay yeah smells a little bit funny alright so that's actually looking halfway decent but then again it's like thirty years old it smells pretty metallic too and I'm just not oh yeah it's pretty weird smelling but I don't know if it's still edible or not I just don't trust something that's not smelling right and when it has that bad like it sounds like it might have still been perfectly edible like just a couple years ago but okay so yeah I wanna you know what's of that alright so this actually still looks okay I mean yeah me just first start with just a little bite without the meat first just to kind of gauge it yeah um it's kind of hard to tell I I mean all right let's check this out hmm you know well no you know what actually yeah that's giving like a really strong flavor of peas I mean I guess there's cuz there's a ton of peas there hmm yeah yeah okay no it's not good anymore it's it's not fresh okay like it might be edible I don't know I probably should have heated it up maybe you know to kill germs potentially I don't know I'm just going to go with the one small bite cuz gosh this cheese it's a lot like that Primula cheese in the british crashing oh and it's smells oh yeah look at that Harley oh man that is serious first off check that up alright but then who that guy right there I'm gonna go in for a close-up here oh gosh look at that it's like a weird fall eyes yeah and there's just nothing quite like it you know some some good old stinky cheese to set you straight I'm gonna throw this pack of crackers to the side and just go with one pack here done it necessarily neat but you know the crackers so far like one of the few good things I mean we'll see though we'll see what else we've got here that might yeah I need a piece of cracker just hmm you know and that didn't taste all that great at first compared to some of the other stuff and it's funny how put crackers like really good now hmm alright let's check out that tea I gave you two tea bags or just one looks like just one nice smells delicious well has some really good quality smelling tea cool and you know what I'm just going to stew we know this is no good I'm just going to keep that sealed and with the rest this water I'm going to check out that bullion powder it's a beef bullion I mean some this holds up iPad 72 or sending three-year-old beetling that it's perfectly good so one that's less than half its age shouldn't have a problem uh but we do because the the definitely the fats are found that's that's wonderful I mean it looks fine but um yeah that's yeah there's there's fat separation and no those are just herbs actually that's not fat separation that's actually kind of nice look at that the herbs on the top we mix it with some dirty spoon here that's the way to go but well oh yeah well no it's not good but we will check out this fruit of mix well it's kind of cool I actually don't even want to mess the label up I'll open it up down here well check that out nice little fruit candies it's like there's some fruit Mentos nowadays via the old-school kind mmm that's very good nice natural fruit flavor hmm nice chew now the dexterous tablets let's see if these are anything like the modern-day Dutch ration dextrose tablets they look to be the exact same they have that same kind of weird smell yeah let's check this out hmm a light lemon lightly sweet kind of chalky consistency hmm I actually really like that well that's delicious it's just like a citric acid tastes like vitamin C chalk and sugar so um hey let's check out that dandy gum actually what am i doing I'm checking out the gum in just a second I gotta look at this chocolate then we'll check out that gum I'll be careful with this label yeah I'm saving that label the chocolate has bloomed but looks like it's still okay we'll see smells a little funny look at that though inside yeah I mean it's some pretty bloomed chocolate that separation is uh definitely happened there but it's not um it's not bad at least I don't think so we'll see let's check this out hmm oh that's delicious hmm I've had three year-old chocolate that was far past that and gloom and not very good this here good quality chocolate hmm let's get that to you look that's steep for long enough and that doesn't need any sugar that tastes like some exquisite quality English breakfast tea I mean that is that is actually some of the best ration tea I've ever had Wow didn't expect that whatsoever but then again you know I can imagine this Dutch ration was a utmost quality when fully fresh I mean the the main course is a lot like a French RCIA ours um you know mains and it's just 100 grams more 400 grams instead of 300 like the French RCA ours mains are at the chocolate excellent quality let's check out that dandy gum neat pack I kind of want to just fold that up and then just kind of save it like that that's what I'm going to do let's check this out though yeah just some really brutally bland peppermint gum not that dandy but you know what it's still pretty nice and you know what else Cedric thanks so much dude for sending this in that was super cool yeah super appreciate it anyway this was a vintage 1985 data production approximately Dutch 24-hour combat ration one experience awesome look into something that quite frankly I doubt I'll have much Ik kan me herinneren dat deze pakketten eind jaren zeventig nog helemaal merkloos waren. En veel robuuster, van die hoteljamverpakkingen zaten er niet tussen want die gaan stuk.
En er zaten sigaretten bij, die zo droog waren dat je moest uitkijken dat de vlam niet in je keel sloeg. Ik heb ze in mijn studententijd nog letterlijk als noodrantsoen gebruikt; vooral de blikken hutspot waren goed te doen, vond ik. Wat moet ik een honger gehad hebben.
