2013 USAF Survival Evasion Resistance Escape Pilot Kits Review SERE Medical & General (Not MRE)

these are modern United States Air Force survival kits for sere operations survival evasion resistance and escape these packages are for troops who find themselves in hostile enemy territory situations or cut off from all supply routes and really with nothing else this one here is the medical module and this is the survival module dangerous goods life-saving appliances not self-inflating we're gonna first start off at the medical module OHIP ID here one with that vacuum seal pack inside of the pack here [Applause] and off the bat we have QuikClot combat gauze vacuum packed and z folded for temporary external used to control traumatic bleeding a quick lotsa hemostatic agent is impregnated with kaolin in an organic mineral that accelerates the body's natural clotting ability with no exothermic reaction so SCI loom new this thing I guess this is like a SOS IR chem light this thing we'll check that out in a moment this is really cool so this is what the modern pilot's survival kit pretty much is for large and for small bandages bug x 30 insect repellent towelette which is just 30 percent DEET and up to 7 hours of maximum effective protection against mosquitoes cool yeah that's very useful definitely gonna need a mosquito repellent if you're in some sort of tropical environment Sarah light 70 rice-based whirl electrolyte drink mix Thanks then under it Sun X 30 sunscreen lotion they're two of those utility towel that okay so this one's just the lotion this is the towel at this here definitely checking that out safety pin just came flying out there H&H compressed gauze look at that that's highly absorbent sterile crinkle cotton fluff bandage rolls that has a real ring to it nice then some more brand backs at race anointment that's super useful I mean you have that with these little bandages here if you're cut up the last thing you needs infection and that's definitely gonna help prevent it I've got some moist towelettes here see if it's okay propylene glycol isopropyl alcohol fragrance benzyl code chloride excellent little antibacterial Wed naps very useful clean yourself up clean up little cuts and whatnot and this looks like some sort of all-purpose camouflage wrap and that's really interesting right there and for safety pins looking good so that's everything for the medical module relatively simple so we're going to move over to the survival module and then we're going to start checking the stuff out that one wasn't vacuum-sealed maybe it lost its seal over time not sure Oh zip lock at the top I just ripped the other one open the medical no big deal no looks like you get some hay wet fire fire starting tinder and then this is pretty neat you get two different LED lights that get red infrared here let's try something out you get a nice infrared that's pretty cool and then the other one doesn't work and this one here appears to not be operational so maybe when they give a yeah that one doesn't work good thing I'm not depending on this for my life or anything you can strap it on your finger or maybe at the end of a stick or something like that too bad the standard one doesn't work the infrared one still works now that's cool so leave it along here today next item we've got we've got a game about cravat camouflage triangular bandage water repellent antimicrobial I like that it's camouflaged and yeah this seems all-purpose you do all sorts of things with that splints slings not bad so that's over in the general kit I'm surprised that wasn't in medical this so Wow you get a compass so I'm guessing the easier matches oh hey these really remind me of British operational ration pack matches the way these look and get some waterproof windproof matches and a striker look at this that is fantastic right there what an excellent little tool Flint fire striker that's awesome will built-in signal mirror again I think that's really cool [Applause] another wet fire fire starting tinder so what's this feels like Christmas opening this thing up it's bubble wrap this is probably water purification tablets in a glass bottle yes it is two tablets to one quart or liter of water wait 30 minutes before drinking how many do you get 50 tablets that's decent they give you a fair amount of water purification tablets Haley this another signal mirror but this one's a lot more efficient and serviceable than that little thing that's your backup essentially that goes in the waterproof match container but this here comes on a nice little lanyard that was satisfying yeah look at that this here a rescue pilot can see this from miles away reflect light from mirror on the palm of your hand slowly bring mirror close to your eye and look through the star at the reflected light in your hand a bright light spot will show on the star this is the aim indicator let's see if we can do that I don't know what I'm doing that probably never get rescued hold the mirror close to your eyes slowly turn and angle mirrors so the aim indicator is on the object you wish to flash continually sweep the horizon even if no one's in sight signals can be seen for many miles even in hazy weather that's right these things are amazing they've been around since World War two came in a nice 17 pilots survival kit over 75 years ago they're still used today all right all sweet happier Wow is that a key for handcuffs yeah it is so I mean like if you were captured that's super useful if you were captured handcuffed that thing would do the trick so another lanyard on this whistle sorry about that that thing probably get pretty loud and look at this multi-tool this was the last thing in the bottom of the bag here Leatherman Leatherman squirt nice name that's super neat so how many different gadgets do you get on the sides with this file knife scissors getting all sorts of stuff here little bottle opener and this little thing over here that could pretty much be a real do all I guess it could be like a little screwdriver little nub nothing's cool could even go on your keychain that's fantastic right there could definitely get you out of a bind I think it needs a saw that's the only thing that you think it's missing I mean like all the other stuff is cool but it could really use a little saw so that's everything I've got to check out this sigh loom thing first here pull on lanyard to untie sympathy for its kind of worn off pull lanyard that round peg to open cover then remove fire stick Ben snap and shake light stick to activate light swing in the air at a signal oh cool well look at that thing okay it's not doing anything well that's kind of a shame to be swinging it like this but it's just this one doesn't work yeah would have been cool if that thing was operational I guess when these things have expiration dates they make sure that yeah look it expired February 2017 it's not like rations these things don't last but the Saral 870 definitely gonna check this out kind of wish I could just put this on a tray stuff really smells like medicine oh I have to put it on a tray of swords nice anyway now I feel better [Applause] [Music] so this stuff wow that's just is like the strongest electrolyte taste it tastes like four times the strength Gatorade with like no sugar which is awesome it doesn't mess around if you were dehydrated this would definitely do the trick it would save you for sure has a light lemon flavor not bad actually right now I'm gonna check out that wet fire fire-starting tinder let's see how this stuff works gonna use that flint fire striker with it yeah Wow looks so glistening it almost looks like a mint oh wow it's kind of liquidy - all right let's try that striker on it well you think that'd work okay let's try out a match smells like artificial fish bait uh pad oh yeah that's lit that really really works boy even water doesn't really put it out right away that's that's awesome yeah took a little bit that really does the trick but I could reuse that so let's check out this quick clot this smells I don't know that's an interesting mild scent to it so check that out so this is quick clot - gauze look at that can give you a good bit of it you'd plug some serious wounds with this definitely save your life if you were having a traumatic hemorrhaging wound and the H band Education age okay good give this a look - and also had a nice little hiss let's see how absorbent this is how much it like blimps out - you know it's growing that just absorbed all of that pretty much all that water there it could absorb more - it's like a sponge that's incredible again have this coupled with that quick clot and you got yourself a amazing combination for stopping the bleeding not bad look at that it definitely works HNH bandage so then this thing here wow it's very sticky adhesive yeah you could really wrap that H bandage and some quick clot with this here this would definitely keep it in place Wow it's strong well it's actually not sticky to touch it just sticks on itself very well I'm gonna save that but you get the idea I kind of saved something I use that H bandage I got to pick up a couple more of those hopefully they're not too difficult to acquire I don't think they are so then this over here the camo that that also comes with two safety pins well you get the idea of this I'm not gonna unfold this thing it's a triangular bandage and if anybody has never seen that well get yourself some triangular bandages and get the feel for them because they're really useful they excellent for setting slings and it's a makeshift bandage awesome so these were modern United States Air Force sere modules general and medical definitely something that's worth checking out if you can get your hands on one of these put them in your car put them in your hiking or a camping kit or survival gear certainly worth adding to your kit so then the bug 30 the Sonex 30 I'm gonna keep these sealed they're just towelettes and sunscreen you know you get the idea too bad about this and the only thing is it's not a big deal you can replace the battery it's just this one here there's no good fantastic this here is quite the kit I have more
