building valheim can be daunting especially now that you have to obey the laws of physics as a former physicist I know that gravity is a cruel bastard but I'm going to show you how you can bend it to your will and build great things in valheim starting with the basics as you've probably found out the more you stack things on top of each other the weaker they get until eventually they break kind of like this instantly broken as soon as I try and place something there but did you know that as you build up you can see the status of how close you're getting until things Break by the color of the object as you hover over it with your Hammer as you can see down here this piece of wood is blue indicating it's touching ground and it's at its strongest Point as you go up it goes from Green slowly to yellow and then to this deep red indicating that anything on top of it will break each type of material has a certain amount you can stack on top of it before it does start breaking for example these basic wood planks will only let you get 16 M tall but these core wood will allow you to go up 24 M as you can see these go just a bit higher but sticking out horizontally is also another challenge I wanted to show that no matter what you do whether the small or the normal they go out about the same length although it does stick out less length than is if you just stack them vertically still however corwood wins and even the small variant of corwood lets you get just a little bit extra on top of there and you can see even adding just that hair will still break it on the normal 4 M sections going out diagonal same situation the normal wood is still trumped by the cor wood but matches exactly the amount you can stack of the roof sections meaning if you're going to build a roof you're going to have to get creative in order to support it using likely core wood on either side in order to extend it out a little bit further not to mention be able to build left and right you won't want to be relying on this normal wood section and if you're really struggling you should definitely go for the shallower piece of roof in order to be able to support your whole roof but don't give up there are some tricks in order to be able to get a nice good roof on top of your building over here I did a little demo of that right here you can see the even with the shallow roof you can't get super far unsupported if I add a piece over here it'll break instantly exactly like that but with some minor supporting we can take that add just a core wood log in a fashionable way you don't need to do straight up and down you can still kind of do this weird support and have your straight up and down more to the side of your great hall and then have one big support going up the Middle with this though you can even have this little Gap to allow for some smoke to escape especially if you've got a bunch of big fire pits through the middle and then all the way up to the top and on this design this is what my maximum would have been anything after that like this oh this might actually work yeah there we go anything after and it breaks so you could just mirror that on the other side and you got a pretty hefty Great Hall with a minor amount of support whereas before that was the maximum you would have been able to do for a roof which is it sucks this would get you a huge Hall let's look at some of the other materials though if we check out Stone over here you can get 16 M tall which is about the same as what we were seeing with the standard wood but on top of that then you can once it the stone goes from all the way from Blue to its red then you can see the wood starts over and you can get another Hefty bit of wood on top of that I believe uh we got 14 M of wood wood right there alone on top of the stone you can get creative once you unlock Stone in order to have a stone base and then build your wood section on top of that same thing with this marble you can stack this up a bit higher this one allows you to go 19 blocks or 19 M tall instead of just 16 however you cannot stack normal Stone on top of the marble it does break still but W doesn't it's still green so if I wanted to I could still do marble all the way up then corwood and get some pretty decent height out of it little more actually see and that's really tall compared to what we were seeing over there that's one way to get a little extra height I also wanted to show off some of the other items that are new to me including these stairs you can get get 17 blocks of height out of these or these metal walls as well you can get 50 blocks of height out of these but also same thing as before you can sometimes stack others off of it um I showed a variety here so if you take a stone wall you can stick it straight out up until like right there so it's kind of a little rough if you turn it sideways you can get a little bit more height out of your stone blocks up to a point and then you got to kind of switch to the marble but then you can also do the the wood and that'll get you up a bit but even then all the way at the tippy top you can't do any more beyond that otherwise it'll still just break another option for height are these iron reinforced wood poles very similar to the other ones where there's 2 m in length these go up 50 m as well getting you all the way to the height of the Big Chain wall and we'll talk a little bit more about these um and then these other wood poles also are like the normal one only 16 and then once again the core wood for comparison you can get a decent bit of height but you remember how I said that this stone wall was 16 blocks tall it was kind of the maximum and I even tested that I know these are the one by ones and these are the twox ones also did the one by two pillars it was the same situation maximum height so if that's the maximum how did I get this to be almost double in height and I even put some wood on there to prove it this one ultimately came out to 28 tall not including the wood on top and it's all because I did this little trick in the back these iron reinforced pillars hiding in the back will allow you to extend your building even further up and then have the wood on top of that as well hell I could even still go further yet I could iron reinforce the wood and go even [Music] further look at this normal wood it's now showing the blue so I can go as tall as the iron goes and then further beyond that with cor wood this a really allow you to get some nice height I mean look at this if you're up this high with your buildings you better be building like a wizard tower or something cuz there's just no way you're going to need this much height anyway another option what you could do especially in the swamp if you're struggling with bone mass trees trees technically act as anchors as well now these Beach ones are going to be a little rough but you can still get in there sometimes the little tree house is all you need in order to survive a little further a little higher up and Out Of Reach of anything down below cuz even up here you'd be Out Of Reach of a troll all you need to do is a little bit of stair stepping up which is also easy you can create your own stairs with the wood beams if you don't want to use the base ingame ones kind of create a little spiral stair by just kind of notching your way up oh that tree is in my way something like that and you can Spire your way all the way up to the tree to your little tree house of course you can mix and match some of these techniques especially involving the stone and the reinforced iron to really raise the height of your long hauls I mean this could go even higher using that technique up to that height so you can really truly support any size roof you want but I know you're not going to have that iron and stone early on but this goes to show you can still do pretty decent despite the early game restrictions hopefully this helped you out if it did let me know down below and thank you so much for watching
