[Music] we're backing all right we're back with Valerie Bertelli and we're making her no bake uh lazy lasagna I'm not going to be lazy as I motorboat this dish if you want to add a little bit of um chili flak I do I like a CH like a Chili I like a Chili I like that it's a one pot like you don't have to clean up a lot of stuff after this was that part of your intention too absolutely I want all my dishes I I purposefully like if you think I make it look easy it's because it is easy I want people to love being in the kitchen like your products you they're so gorgeous you love being in the kitchen and looking at your beautiful products beautiful I do I do this is so incredible oh my gosh oh my God so chees comforting yes so flavorful so like it is it's comforting it's like a hug in a bowl the flavors of it are so Good by the way I was looking at um our head from when we were kids I I have two of them can I show everybody yes only if you show yours I do I B too okay um oh baby well that's mine you are so adorable how old are you there oh my oh my gosh oh my God you are so I'm like 11 or 12 there wow look how gorgeous you are and then there's one of you like walking a sheep oh that my head shot so that's I forget what those were called but you had like a big head shot on one side and the four so they could see you in different whatever scenarios you had great hair even back then Valerie that yeah where did the Sheep come from well so we were shooting in this park and someone literally had a sheep and the photographer said hey can can she hold it and like let's use this moment sell her as the farm girl y right by the way it was the resumés that's called okay okay so you would get like an 8 by10 glossy MH and on the back of the 8 by10 glossy was your resume and you would have to say I can sing I can tap I can I can ride horses exactly even though you couldn't all lies I couldn't do any of the things it said that I could do it was like singing dancing you put like all your skill sets as a child that you don't really have you can roller skate you can skateboard exactly and that got me in trouble because then I did a movie in London something about Charles Dickens going back and forth in time and I had to ride a skateboard and it says well it said that I could ride a skateboard I'm like oh my God I actually have to ride a skateboard so I did it but I looked like a weirdo do you remember your very first job and what was it I think it was oh yes I do it was a a commercial for J C pennies oh how old were you uh like barely 12 really yes and I got the job because I actually fit in the clothes which is ironic because all about like food and clothing and feeling uncomfortable in your body and here I get the job because I fit the clothes mhm yeah and I hated doing any kind of clothes fitting or anything like that because it would remind me of how imperfect I was you know you talk a lot about all of those kind of conversations on Instagram I you guys follow her you are so beautifully open and I feel like so relatable and you you talk about food you talk about shame you also talked recently about how you had stopped drinking and you shared that what what made that happen for you how has that been I've been doing dry January a few years now and then so last year I barely drank I would do and I started again this January dry January and then February came and went and I didn't drink and now March came and went and now we're in April and I'm like I guess I'm not drinking you know I mean I don't and I don't because I have been around people who have struggled with alcoholism and I know how challenging it is it is a disease it is something that is something to overcome it's in a you know another tool to deny feelings squash feelings numb feelings and that kind of went right there with me so I figured and I and instead of like setting my up myself up for failure I don't say I'm never going to drink again but I'm pretty much never going to drink again I know I always say I'm not sober I don't work a program please don't project level don't don't put me on I want to share like a thing I did but for you I'm trying to make it relatable because we all have something that we overindulge in that we use as an escape that we rely on as a crutch that may not actually serve us and for anyone just fill in that blank mine just happened to be like an alcohol poison situation it could be gambling it could be shopping it could be sex it could be any of those things but you guys talk about it and you share that openly what is the response like and and how do you process that when it comes in like when people relate to that does that make you feel good absolutely then then there is the pressure and you want to say listen this is just the way I'm doing it so for now for now and this is how what's working for me for now everyone has a story and when you hear other people's stories and how similar they are you don't feel so alone yeah and we can create uh as much input and outflow as possible and as we navigate this new normal of social media we'll find our way through it and our boundaries of feeling good and what we should let in and what we should say I that doesn't serve me that doesn't feel right I mean we've been getting the block button is really good too I love that block button and I will block you I don't care in this this is my community you are not wel you're going to be me you're that's a boundary my boundary a boundary AB Ely and I know this is a really weird comparison but like when you're a child actor you also you get reviews so I feel like we've been dealing with social media criticism our whole lives and you just make a choice at some point of what am I going to let in and what am I going to believe and how am I going to navigate this and I feel like we had good lifelong training for that we did didn't we yeah so you find out what works for you and you do you and you be you and make life a safe space for yourself and hopefully others and I love your attitude about we are all going to take really good care of each other and we will not allow negativity to rule and you guys are doing that with this too I mean your show is so spectacular in that way yes honey you are you are spreading kindness you're spreading good faith you're spreading cheer you're spreading what this world needs and and you're giving it out to everybody and you're getting it back it's important thank you for saying that and one thing that really brings everybody together is and the privilege and the luxury of it so everybody go and grab my new favorite cookbook indulge because it is out now everywhere and everyone in our audience is going to go home with a coffee there are also important money saving tips after the break and then we can all indulge together we'll be right back
