hey guys in this video we're going to be going over crafting in Starfield and explaining how things work what you guys should be doing what to avoid and also showing you how to turn your ship into a mobile crafting and research lab that way you always have a place to do all of your research and modifications and we'll also be going over some tips and tricks that you guys can do to avoid making some of the mistakes that I did early on with crafting and before we begin be sure to leave a like on this video And subscribe to the channel for more content like this in the future so for crafting a star field there are four categories to this system there's the actual crafting aspect there is the research there's the skill and the Gathering to craft items there are a series of workbenches that you're going to be using the weapon workbench is obviously the one you're going to be using to modify your weapons the industrial workbench is going to be used for you to craft various components for all aspects of the game the spacesuit workbench like the weapon workbench is used to make adjustments and modifications to your armor the cooking station you guessed it is used to make food and the pharmaceutical lab is used to make various antidotes healing items and things that are going to buff your character so those are the main crafting stations that you're going to be using to make items next we have the research lab so this is going to be the thing that you're going to interface with when it comes to researching all the items that you'll be using to craft on those various workbenches and as you can see here as you're going through the different options in the research lab some of these things are actually locked and require skill points so that's what we're going to be talking about next to craft certain items you'll actually need to invest points into certain skills along the skill tree to research and craft better pharmacology projects you'll need to invest points into chemistry in the science tree for better food and drinks you'll need to put points into Gastronomy and social for better items for your Outpost you'll need to put points into the Outpost Engineering in the science tree for better equipment on your armor you'll need to invest points into spacesuit design in science and then for your weapons you'll need to put points into the weapon engineering in the science tree and if you're planning to do a lot of crafting or research in general I highly recommend you put points into research methods at the very beginning of the science tree this is going to really help cut back as far as the costs of crafting and research so now that we've gone over how to craft and research items let's talk about how to gather and actually acquire these materials first and foremost the main thing you guys should be doing is always just looting everything you possibly can when you're running around different worlds and planets I know that they've definitely nerfed the carry weight in this game so you're going to be doing a lot of walking around fully encumbered however try to do your best to bring everything back and just dump everything into the cargo bay on your ship the nice thing about your cargo bay is that anytime you're at a workbench you're always going to have access to all the materials in your cargo hold another good source of finding specific materials that you might need is by just buying them from vendors there's a bunch of vendors and people to trade with all across the world and all the different planets and another really good tip is to hail flying ships passing by and most of them have the option to trade and usually they're always carrying some kind of different type of material which is going to be coming in handy later down the road and then the last method is the typical tried and true just going out and getting your laser and just mining materials on different planets if you're looking for a specific material to mine you can look at the materials that are going to be listed on the planet when you scan it that way you guys can actually see exactly where they are and then land where it's at keep in mind you'll actually need to set up an outpost and build Machinery to extract the resource out of the ground we won't be covering everything with Base building but it's pretty simple you just go to the planet look for where the resources on that planet land there and then you build the Outpost and then just put an extractor wherever the resource is on the ground and then just craft a power source so now we're going to actually explain how to put a workbench and a research lab on your ship so that way you guys always have it with you wherever you go so like many of you I still don't have all of the building pieces when it comes to shipbuilding because like many of you I'm still pretty early on in the game but we definitely can put those habitats inside of our ship so what you're going to be looking for here is the Nova Galactic all-in-one berth two by ones and you can also use the demos all-in-one two by ones as well and the two prefabs here that you're going to be looking to add to your ship are the science lab and the workshop both of those combined will give you all of the different workbenches and also the research lab that you'll need so now let's actually go into all of the tips that I would recommend when it comes to crafting that I kind of figured out along the way I think this first one is probably the most important one to do and that is I would highly recommend you do not craft any weapon mods until you have at least the very first rank of weapon engineering I say this mainly because when it comes to crafting weapon mods it's actually pretty costly as far as materials goes and to get the higher ranks of weapon engineering which you know you want because it'll let you craft the better mods for your weapons you're gonna have to actually complete the challenges and to go from rank 1 to rank two you'll actually need to craft 30 weapon mods so that could be pretty costly my next tip is about skill investment so obviously if you want to get weapon engineering you need to actually put some points into the science tree so a couple of the skills that I would recommend putting points into is medicine and then research method medicine I think is pretty self-explanatory here it's definitely something that I think everyone should pick up regardless of whatever build you're going with it's just going to help you restore more Health points when you're consuming Med packs and things like that so it's definitely a good one to invest the points into and then research methods is another really good skill to pick up and invest time into if you plan on doing a lot of crafting this skill is going to reduce the amount of materials needed to craft items which is really nice another tip that is directly involved with research methods is to craft a bunch of basic food this is going to help level up the research method skill a lot faster going back to the weapon engineering skill a really good way to level up this skill is to just select no mod on weapons and craft it because technically selecting no mod and removing mods from weapons still counts as weapon modding which is really nice and a really good way to do this this is to either just go out in the world and collect with modded weapons off bodies that you kill and then just go back to the crafting bench and just start stripping all the parts off the weapon and the nice thing about the no mod option is that it's relatively pretty cheap as far as material cost goes and one last really useful tip that I think is really nice to have is you can actually track certain materials that you need for items the best way to do this for example is when you look at this weapon mod here I can go to the specific mod and then press R to track it and you can see that the materials are going to be showing up what the magnifying glass right here and now when I go out into the world and like hover over items that have these materials it's going to let me know so that way if you're you know trying to craft a specific mod for a weapon let's say a suppressor now when you're running around in the world and looting items you'll be able to see which items you can pick up that are going to help and be broken down into components for that suppressor one last tip I wanted to throw in here is that if you guys are loading a bunch of stuff and your cargo hold is getting full in your ship a really good way to add more space is to just literally add some cargo slots to your ship this way it's going to allow you to carry more things in your ship just keep in mind that the more stuff you start adding to your ship the more engine power you're going to need and you know things can kind of get out of hand pretty quick so just keep that in mind but yeah that's going to do it for my tips and explaining crafting in general for Starfield but what are your guys thoughts I would love to hear from you guys in the comments section let me know what you guys are thinking as far as the game goes in general or just how the crafting works out either way I'd love to hear from you guys thank you so much for checking out my video I'm still solo and I'll see you guys next time
