UG: Civil War | Union - Part 1: Acceptable Losses

hello internet personas my name is Val fisken welcome to ultimate general Civil War a game funnily enough about the Civil War right so this is a indie RTS it's actually a sequel to another one called ultimate general Gettysburg where you well command troops in the Civil War as you could probably guess as a general funding Lee enough so today we're just gonna jump in I have like 45 minutes on this game but several hours on the its predecessor so I have absolutely no idea how it's deep it's a lot more complicated than the previous one which is good it is because the other one was pretty simplistic um but it's hard it can get this is like the AI is no joke and knows what how to play this game right so we're just going to jump in to a new campaign right so we cheesy voice can you not talk over me for this government cannot endure very slow are you done right so I'm gonna just go back for a second and turn off SFX so that it doesn't do that right so we get to choose our background because we're a military officer we command regiments divisions with that sort of thing so we get to choose our background from from the beginning so West Point Academy graduation so we get to choose what we graduated as now I have absolutely no idea what oh actually it tells you oh it does tell you right well before this I had no idea what these numbers meant I still don't really know how they out it does okay well whatever we're gonna pick skirt will pick strategist will just go strategist it seems good somehow right so now we pick ah now we pick what we served as in the mexican-american war either as an artillery member or infantry or cavalry um I think I'm just going to go infantry yeah let's just go infantry further career probably okay we're not going go army because we already have enough of that let's politics the amount of recruits and money you receive during the war being good in politics will certainly favor on about economy reduce the cost of purchasing new weapons all right let's go politics that one seems good and now we pick whether to fight as the Confederates or the Union and since this is going on YouTube and I am don't want to associate myself with anything we're just going to pick the union so okay oh these are these are difficulty levels okay so we're just gonna pick normal and enter our name failfish yes our name is Vale Fisk all right so we have zero logistics that's always good very low Makana says no medicine no god I'm going to lose a lot of men but we have good politics and trainings so there's that right so let's begin and before we properly begin can i press escape yes I can right so I'm just going to turn sfx back up so you can hear shooting and things like that right so our main objective is to take this town which is nicely pointed out by this red X reinforcements for the Confederates are going to arrive by the railroad okay and here's our men down here and we are going to get reinforcements that come up here but this is what we start with all right so we're going to pause now thanks to the glorious thing that is former knowledge I know for a fact that the Confederates have to skirmish divisions up here and won one skirmish division down there so what we're actually going to do is we're going to send this division to deal with them and this skirmish division okay these are skirmishers right they're like fast moving they run back and forth they shoot that kind of thing they're small but they they're good at delaying people this is a proper regimen with 880 men in it so we're going to send these guys up there too and we're going to push down this hill and meet up with the reinforcements that come from that side so this is me in my personal guard okay Ivan I have a good mustache that's great we're just going to move up with those main guys as well yes watch out for rebel skirmishers yes but um a what what you shouldn't do is just charge down the Scourge because what happens is they're lined up on this cliff here and here and they'll just pummel you just destroy your only regiment so you don't want that to happen I also don't want myself to die not not now right so these guys I'm just gonna kind of have chill actually I might put them out in the open now now let's keep them in the woods because I don't want the Confederates charging us because they have a they're much better when it comes to like charging all right so you guys attack Nana Nana now go up the cliff first Vale Fisk will follow you all right so we're going to yeah see there they are fire should kill them they're in the open oh boy they're going to yeah they're going to get us all right so we're gonna push up here hopefully these skirmishers don't fall back yet let's see if we can try and keep oh yeah let's keep the general in range so that they get good experience and stuff all right you guys really missed there didn't you all right hurry up and join up with these guys now we should win this because we have our general right there and they're outnumbered but these guys are firing on us so hopefully this doesn't route yeah their morale is okay so that's good these guys are like fine they're they're pushed back up though don't don't fall behind this regiments pushing up the hill this regiment alone will easily destroy these skirmishers I could just pursue those guys keep them pinned you guys both keep keep attacking all right now that the skirmishers have linked up with the rest of the regiment they should yeah there they go they're all right now and now they will just be annihilated hopefully now don't don't fall into the trap of running in there guys because if you run in there you're just gonna die I think he's retreating yeah he's retreating I keep pushing up the hill guys keep pushing up and what this is these are just skirmishers we're not even fighting the their main force which is here and here I don't know if I said this earlier but I I have 45 minutes on this game so I know how this first part plays out but I've never managed to survive their counter-attack once I've taken the town but they're there they outnumber the Oh it'sit's bad so okay SILS skirmishers here scene oh yeah they're done all right they're going to retreat like a long way and then sort of regroup but they're broken so that's very very good we've taken very minimal casualties in tzuke's regiment here so that's really really good minimal casualties overall we've only lost six percent which is pretty good I don't know how many he's lost most of those I imagine on this guy's regimen yes reinforcements have arrived okay this is good so we're going to send this cavalry round there Bristow's cavalry and then we get two new regiments Lumis and Walton who are going to start pushing towards the town and we get to come 12 guns total but we get canons who are also going to come in the hill and it's apply love wagon who are going to follow those guys scales no no okay they're very it's very hard to click on what I want because they're very close together no Walton what did I say go that way all right woods that way yeah there we go okay everything everything's sorted out now I don't know where is a him did wait did we beat the other guy is he gone I don't know if he's gone I don't think he's gone but he might be okay there's okay this guy is falling back to the town I think he's realized that skirmish with us here's a lost cause so Zook push up to the town you push there you guys can just sort of chill on that hill there you guys push there all right this is good supply wagon don't run in front of us these guys are gonna go let's say here yeah well we'll have the cavalry protect okay so maquette so here we go McHenry's regiment is there it's in the town Oh kill those guys Stockton can deal with him we'll send Schaefer snapper I don't know okay yeah see this is what I was worried about they've got cannons like they're some or somewhere so I have to be careful which is why I'm these guys are mostly going to come around and fight and Zook I'm going to try and send like that the I need to be careful that Stockton doesn't get annihilated you guys can follow him just don't go in front all right our three regiments should be enough to deal with McHenry we'll have to see all right now okay my losses are down to just over 3% oh boy I mean 3% losses with three 3,500 men is pretty good I'd say we want to minimize yeah this is another really cool feature I don't think I mentioned so this campaign is like it's multiple battles right but our losses carry from battle to battle so like if he loses men he's lost those men and these guys can get injured and die which is really bad for the morale as you could imagine so alright begin to open fire McHenry boys all of you guys get in their supply wagons stay with the main troops but don't get too bogged down they'll Fisk move over there Bristow I know let's send Stockton and to deal with McKenna Oh oh shoot no they're there keep fighting those guys let's send the cab to go help kill them oh boy okay so hold on I think sook is injured yeah Zook is dead okay that's not good that's really bad actually that is really bad that's okay that will survive I'm sure so you guys move whoa what yeah like they're not more like yeah like they're and then they can fire on McHenry oh these guys need to pull back a little bit you guys go around trying to avoid those ah no rear flank trying to avoid the cannon fire look at this though McHenry is gonna get pummeled especially once those cannons get in position and they can open fire that'll be just death for him all right kill him charge don't let him get in the tree oh here we go so there's laws regiment there I do try and kill hexamer there you guys move in from McHenry okay there yeah there's their guns oh shoot deal with them yeah look a hexamer he's done once I don't want to lose too much of this calves oh look at that look at those kills climbing that bamboo they dead I think they're dead yeah they're dead right I don't want to rush these guys into Burns regiment here because laws right there and they've got cannons and stuff there we go look at this on this side though the Kennedys got good cover though so there is that I have to be wary of that we could probably just send them in like that but I don't want any charging I just want you guys to fire okay yeah that's what I want them to do run back and forth and just fire so that they can avoid the main guns so supplies can move closer and I am going to move like they're these cannons yeah they're good they're doing good there bombarding McHenry we want to try and inflict as many casualties as possible because later and if he doesn't retreat I think he might be doing that now actually okay Stockton just pull back actually no um Schaefer is a shape Schaefer I have no idea these two guys can go fight him you guys just chill I don't want you guys to do anything because Kath we don't get a lot of calves and so I want to try and conserve them all right looks like McHenry is pulling back pulling back now so we're going to just move up into the town here we're going we're gonna try and do some pummeling now how big is your range goes to their right so they can't actually see these guys need to move like they're actually no that would be a really good spot let's send these to this cab there this eye is like a revealing spot so we're going to send the cab there but we're just going to send these guys here let's do like that yeah um all right yeah so I don't know where those other skirmishers are well there they are speak of the devil Zook and Stockton Shafer should be able to deal with them they'll fall back pretty quickly I imagine Loomis and Walton deal with them good good all right all right this is going very well we've only got seven percent losses eight eight percent which is pretty good Oh McHenry is not done yet it would seem Loomis wheel around and deal with McHenry Zook push up and help Walton fight law you guys are gonna focus on the cannons and you guys are gonna fight law ok Loomis once ok yeah all right all right right woods and scales open fire on law you guys can't fire without getting too close right yeah they can't all right we need to if I can kill those cannons it'll he'll be at a significant disadvantage actually Schaeffer will round to deal with that Stockton you be cannon fodder and deal with Davis there Loomis and McHenry I know oh there's okay so he's actually pulled his other regiment back from here see he knows he doesn't need to have it here so he's pulled it back in his sitting in the town he could push up but I don't know all right looks like we're charging I didn't order that but they're doing it mind of their own I guess you guys keep firing on law we only have 12 guns this isn't really much but it can help quite terrifying I imagine look at this we need to dislodge law from this position though because yeah look at that canister shots from those cannons that's just just painful stop this is Stockton Stockton is retreating is there okay is there any way I could get cab across the river no there's no Ford so I can't go around there's no way around so what I might do is pull this calves back go all the way around McHenry and try and slam into law on the other side because if I can do that with a couple of the chart on coupled with it there we go coupled with a charge as as far as you're going to go yeah okay so they can go they go to there we will lose sight from this Ridge which is a bit of a shame but I think it'll be worth it okay we need Schaefer to just like protect the cannons from those skirmishers and we need charge right now don't run why can't I charge I can't seem to do that so that's a shame Luke I need to deal with McHenry here as well maybe I could use the cab to slam into the back of him I might do that ooh Zook is taking these guys are taking oh you son of a stupid flanking penalty go deal with them don't turn around don't turn Iran because then you'll get law giving you flanking and that's even worse all right so you guys come up and around like there in the woods and then they could charge down and slam it yeah they can slam into the side of McHenry and help Loomis that would be really good all right law okay there's burns burns I honestly don't know I really like to kill him maybe I should have just kept the cavalry to kill him but oh well oh boy that that looked like it hurt those cannons are just tearing me to shreds kill the cannons guys kill the cannons okay Bristow needs to push around like that kill the cannons if you finish him off no we could do we could push these guys up and use them as canister shots or use a canister shots I don't know how to switch their gun type maybe they do that automatically they didn't last time how did they just charge alright that's fine they're outnumbering them so alright finish off bris oh come around the back let's deal with McHenry see if we could push Loomis through the town over here get him get him boys go charge charge him down mailee there we go and flanked as well so hopefully that'll that coupled with fire from Loomis should do the job oh yeah look there he's routed him oh yeah he's done McHenry is dead alright okay you guys need to push up Schafer uh you push up as well kill those cannons just kill the cannons guys okay Bristow got routed a little bit as well but so did McHenry he's basically dead so we can try and push Loomis up on the other bridge I think but we are taking some seriously heavy casualties on this side oh I think I just killed all of his cannons okay that's good finish off law then all of you Lumis can chase mchenry the only regiment that I know is left is root I don't know where root is I think he might be yeah he might have come back here because he can see me pushing Loomis up on this side he really just does not have the men anymore to defend this but the question is how many more of my men are gonna die before this is over oh yeah they're rabid McHenry's only got 200 men left and he had like 800 at the start he's just done Loomis uh yeah just just push up there I think he's here I really don't know but I think he's there I'm gonna have what is that it's just a dog that did not sound like a dog we're gonna have Bristow pushed there quebra so can you get across the river or is route actually sitting here I don't think he's there no he's not so where where's root hiding is he in the town maybe yeah yeah okay he's still there in the town that's where he is so now that we broke we broken into this side so we can get Loomis in there but I need to break these guys across the river before they take too many more casualties unit is out of ammo where's my supply wagon did they steal my supply wagon or if I left it somewhere I think they stole my supply wagon those sons all right well that's not good so these guys are almost out of ammo yeah they're kind of low on supply these guys are still all right with supply though all right you know what all of you I can't tell them to charge which is a shame I need to tell them to back up and just just keep pounding law bristow oh boy okay get out of there get out of there Bristow go and try and capture this bit at the back and then Loomis alright Loomis is across the river this is good so we have a full regiment rear flank for God's sake turn around these guys are almost out of ammo okay route is now coming in to reinforce we're gonna have to send those guys over there capture those supplies that'll be really helpful to us there so those supplies are now ours let's actually can we just capture the town what on earth is going out on out there somebody Hawking their horn whatever uh so hmm how god's ook is almost as dead as those guys that's a shame for so what are you doing go back ok now that their flanks I have a feeling they're gonna get pretty beat up or rather that's my hope anyway get there I think oh here they are oh I do have my supply kit wagon still wondering where that one I believe we are capturing the town he's surrounded this is good I need Bruce if I can just use Bristow to contain him but I want Bristow dekat for now finished capturing the town go back Zook has fallen back there we go we just secured a Philly B we have to contest it for like 20 minutes oh boy kill root kill root all right they're in the melee okay kill law cuz law is gonna hurt us now you join go help Loomis cuz Loomis is exhausted cuz they marched over here so they're kind of like in there in a pickle oh boy this is bloody that's not good oK we've gotten a lot of pushback kill Walton push across yeah just push across the river now guys come on I wanna push there we go push across the river kill that guys look alright so the cannons are just gonna chase long I don't want to fire the cannons cuz that would be firing on my own men there and I really don't want to do that Bristow okay Bristow has just gone into full full retreat I believe we just got root as well though roots is also in a retreat but this is our chance to get across the river now I think we've we've almost won we have to hold it it's this isn't seconds this is like minutes that seconds increase reconnaissance kill for enemy army information oh okay that would be nice cuz isn't this next this next part is gonna be tough vanna melee oh yeah there are there's some guys some guys have Ryan down here routes done though just look he's losing so many men but we need to contest the town so I need to push in here the cannons hmm they are resupplying from the supply wagon so this is that that's good okay so yeah we won there we go we won so um Wow 26 minutes maybe I should make this a two-parter um yeah all right so I guess I will thank you guys for watching and I'll see you next time which is going to be in like two hours because I'm lazy
