Twitter Attacks During Star Wars Celebration, Says Empire Fans Are Fascists

[Music] [Music] I've been trying to think of a way to start this video for I don't know a couple of minutes now and I don't know how to do it and I know that I goof around on this channel you know and I exaggerated for the sake of comedy but I'm gonna speak from the heart I'm losing my mind I feel like I'm going insane now some of you probably know about a year ago I made a video about Star Wars it was very popular got 5 million views it was a big boost to my channel and thanks to all of you who subscribed because of that video but I've also in that year since I made the video been dealing with these constant accusations that because I made a video about how I don't like Star Wars I'm a member of the alter right I'm a Nazi I'm a bad person and for a long time I shrugged them off I said you know what these are just crazy people this is the extreme fringe people on Twitter who don't know what they're talking about clearly this does not represent a popular opinion because everybody is not so stupid as to think that not liking the space wizard movie makes you a Nazi but as time goes on I have lost more and more of that faith in humanity more and more of my willingness to think that it's a select number of people it seems to be a great number of people some of them commanding a disturbing amount of influence so right now we have Star Wars Celebration going on it's a fun event for people who really like Star Wars they go and dress up in costumes and they get to watch the new movie trailer which everybody's excited about and I honestly figured that maybe this weekend with all the excitement over the new Star Wars trailer that we'd be able to put aside the weird political aspect of this thing where people's views and morality are based on the Star Wars movie I figured we could leave that alone for now people who like Star Wars congratulations here's the new trailer a guy like me who doesn't like Star Wars I'm not gonna [ __ ] on you right now okay maybe I'll talk about the trailer later but you know I want you guys to have a fun Star Wars celebration but other people apparently can't leave the fans alone can't just let Star Force exist for a small period of time without politicizing it they have to continue to hammer on with these insane ideas about what you're supposed to think and feel and love about Star Wars so the official Star Wars Twitter made a tweet it was a poll you can pull people on Twitter ask them a question get a response the question was which side are you on do you support the resistance or the first order it's a fun little question do you support the scrappy underdogs of the resistance or are you a bit of a bad boy hang out with kylo Ren and his evil red lightsaber it sounds silly as I say it you know you're talking about which side of the children's cartoon you're on but because we live in a dark hellscape of eternal madness this is not a simple question for people it's an endorsement of fascism people are arguing that if you say you're a fan of the first order you are a literal Nazi I wish I was being over-the-top here I wish I was exaggerating the truth this is what is being argued let's let's take a look because I want you to know that this is real when guizi says i don't understand how the social media team for Disney didn't consider the implications of making an online poll that amounts to do you like fascism yes or no well you know why they didn't consider that because they have never reckoned with how [ __ ] crazy all of you people are they thought oh it's that thing it's that toy and shines okay where the kids grab an action figure from either side and smash them into each other and then decide which one won so maybe those people who play with those action figures have an opinion on which one they like to smash into the other one okay maybe they like their kylo Ren action figure to win maybe they want ray to you know pound the [ __ ] out of Snoke what let's find out let's put a poll out there so I understand why the social media team didn't think that because they're not nuts in the [ __ ] head like you people are here's Jim sterling hands up who likes fascism Jim come on man look you make your you make your living talking about fictional entertainment you you know there's plenty of franchises where people like to play as the bad guys especially videogames when I play counter-strike and I decide to play on the terrorist team I make a active effort both teams are empty but I choose to play as the terrorists and planting the bomb am i in league with Isis am I like come on man so again the specific poll is if you were part of the Star Wars universe what side would you be on hashtag Star Wars Celebration 73% said the resistance they like the good guys 27% said the first order okay so some people like the bad guys but I think we know that doesn't necessarily mean you're a bad person just because you like a villain or a group of villains or whatever it might just mean you think they're cool or interesting I doubt you identify with their wanting to kill people when you say Lex Luthor is cool it's probably not because you want to go out and murder superheroes you just probably think he's an interesting villain when people fangirl out about Loki they're like Oh Loki oh he's so attractive I wish he was my boyfriend you know they're not talking about the part where he wanted to enslave earth and give it to aliens okay we're disconnecting those two things it's not a literal endorsement of evil but that nuance is lost on big mood thought POG who says damn I want to be the genocide 'el space Nazis thanks for the choice Disney so you're gonna hear this a lot this is what you're gonna hear from these people is that the first order are Nazis now look we all know that Star Wars is loosely inspired by world war two but just because something is inspired by World War two doesn't mean it's a one-to-one representation of that thing just because George Lucas knew that people associate Nazi uniforms with evil so he used those for his own bad guys to you know use our built-in associations with those costumes it doesn't mean the empire is fooling Nazis okay the Nazis were a very specific group of people from a country called Germany they endorsed a campaign of mass genocide against another group of very specific people Jews homosexuals gypsies okay nothing in Star Wars is about that now in my last video I made about Twitter it was about the Joker movie and their spawn see what a lot of people left a comment oh it's just Twitter we shouldn't give people on Twitter and he notice they're not important you're just you know using this its clickbait it doesn't matter at all okay the people talking about these things yes some of them are random twitter users who probably don't have a huge platform and probably aren't influencing society in any meaningful way but some of these people have thousands of followers they are verified Twitter users which means that they have a special symbol next to their name so that everybody pays more attention to them they write for websites that people are reading here we have Hanna Ines Flint she's written for Yahoo Guardian sci-fi okay her opinions are out there in the public sphere and they are influencing people now that would be great if her opinions were sane and rational things that people should believe but her opinions are this twenty eight percent of Star Wars fans are Nazis we're not even like halfway through reading these tweets and I'm already yelling into the microphone because I don't know man it's like I said I'm really starting to lose my grasp on realities thanks to these people who have also lost their grasp on reality it's slowly seeping into my world that I can't believe this is real I really can't I'm not playing this up I'm really bewildered at where we are at as a society it seems like we're living in a fantasy world where people have forgotten that Star Wars is a movie they think Star Wars is real they think that if you like kylo ren's helmet or is cool cross blade lightsaber that you want to go in murder Jewish people this is insane I'm starting to understand the mindset I think these people have when they talk about a guy like me who's made I don't know two or three videos about how I don't like Star Wars you know out of the hundred or two hundred videos I've made some of them were about Star Wars because it's a very popular topic I don't like the last Jedi I've made my opinion known and to these people they here well he didn't like the last Jedi that means he doesn't like the resistance that means he's on the side of the first order who are Nazis that is what I think is their actual subconscious thought process they believe that Star Wars is real that it has real-world parallels to what is going on around us and that anybody who isn't behind it 100% is in league with the most evil vile scum on this planet we are fascists we are Nazis we are bad people I can't believe that we're talking about this uh let's keep going I guess here's Jessica Ellis she is a writer with 15,000 followers this is a weird way to find out who's a fascist I mean I want to hope that she's making a joke but I think that she's serious I think that she seriously thinks that if you like the first order you you support evil Nazi regimes now here we have Austin Walker Austin is the editor-in-chief of Waypoint which is owned by Vice media which is a million dollar if not billion dollar media franchise how much money does vice have according to this valuation from November 12 2018 vice is worth 5.7 billion dollars so please don't leave a comment telling me oh it's just Twitter it doesn't matter this is a man who is one of the editors in chief at a 5.7 billion dollar media corporation he has 70,000 followers on Twitter and these are the ideas that he is filling their heads with I'm genuinely [ __ ] stoked for this level of total disconnect this absolute blatant action-figure ideology it's not which of these heroes are you but are you the space fascists or nah 11,000 likes about 3,000 retweets alright Austin yes let's talk about level of total disconnect because you're right it is a blatant action figure ideology really quick let me show you some kids playing with Star Wars toys Thank You Stan Walker and storm troopers [Music] good work Hoss world from Star Wars Micro collection line playsets also sold separately now did you pay attention during that because those kids at the end of it were cheering for the Empire they were like the rebels have been crushed and I don't look at those kids and go my god they're being tainted with a fascist ideology they're cheering for the Empire I go oh those are [ __ ] kids and they're playing with action figures okay when I look at Star Wars Celebration and there's guys dressed up as stormtroopers I don't go I can't believe all these people came to this convention dressed in Nazi uniforms so no Disney isn't asking people if they endorse fascism they are literally asking them which action figures do you like the most everybody with a brain in their head understood that it's people like you who are taking it way too [ __ ] far here somebody brings up a very good point they say the first order is fictional and real-world fascists can't have the Empire or the first order I'm sorry this man has made a very astute point I know that Austin Walker is mocking him for it but I think this guy brings up a very important thing to think about if you're gonna call anybody who likes the first order a Nazi then there's so many problems that are going to come from that one real Nazis are going to have more realm to spread their ideology they're gonna be able to go to people who just like Star Wars they like the fun bad guys from Star Wars and go well they already call you a Nazi so why don't you come hang out with some Nazis it's also gonna make it so Nazi groups don't seem that bad because nobody knows what that term means anymore there's gonna be legitimate Nazi groups preaching things about white nationalism or whatever else and you're gonna say oh my god the Nazis are holding a rally this weekend and someone else is gonna go well they just like Star Wars they're harmless I seriously don't think you guys are thinking through what you're doing your actions are gonna have the exact opposite of what you want because I'll go out on a limb I think yes you probably have noble ideas I don't want fascism I don't want Nazis I think any rational person doesn't want that and I'm glad we agree on that point but we definitely disagree on the way to stop it the way I want to stop it is by educating people about why we should be good to each other you know with the importance of different viewpoints different types of people how we can all get along your plan to stop fascism is to rip on the people who like the bad guys in Star Wars my mind is exploding right now every brain synapse I have is going dead as I slowly just collapse inward on myself like a dying star because I can't live on this planet anymore what is wrong with you [ __ ] people I'm laughing because it's the absurdity reading this [ __ ] is is driving me [ __ ] crazy here's Chris person who makes videos for Kotaku this is a logical extension of people getting Empire tattoos and that [ __ ] always felt weird maybe to you okay but when I saw kids walking around with a boba fett [ __ ] hoodie on I just thought wow that's the stupidest looking thing ever I didn't think that guy identifies with murderous bounty hunters who work for Nazi regimes here's another blue checkmark with a brilliant observation who do they think the Empire was based on oh you're right it's based on Nazis which means that it is Nazis you know like how Dracula is based on Vlad the Impaler so anytime you say you like Dracula that means you're sympathizing with a real-life warlord who put people's heads on spikes that's how that works don't these people realize that they're just sucking all the fun and joy out of Star Wars doing stuff like this I'm seeing people complaining they're like can you believe Disney you know has the Imperial March they have Nazi storm troopers you know marching through Disney World it's a fun science fiction flying around in spaceships laser swords world it's not real life and I don't know why we have these realms of escapism these fantasy worlds and I know everybody wants to say well everything is political there's politics and everything sure but you're starting to ruin these things I don't want any Star Wars stuff in my life but let's 10 that I did I decide I like the first order I go I buy a kylo Ren sticker and I put it on the back of my car am I gonna come out to a bunch of ante for teenagers you know knifing my tires calling me a fascist because I don't like the correct Star Wars faction I mean that sounds absurd but the way these people are talking I think that's actually what they want or how they feel we're moving towards a world where cartoons are being taken as reality anyway I'm the kind of guy who feels like society is getting farther and farther away from reality that the Internet and social media is causing people to detach from the reality of the world around them lose connection with actual humanity and and start living in these fantasy worlds I'm not immune to it you know I've found myself living in virtual worlds and chatting with online friends and occasionally I'll go outside and sit in the grass and go [ __ ] I should really do this more often this online culture of constantly fighting and politicizing everything it's very addictive it triggers some sort of endorphin release in us when we can go on these personal Crusades and try to fight for what is right the problem is that those fights are starting to devolve into complete nonsense we're arguing about which side of the Star Wars universe you should be on and not in a fun jokey way like oh the Empire's so cool you know I wish I had a TIE fighter we're talking about it like it's a life and death situation where if you pick the wrong side millions of people are going to die you like kylo Ren because he has a cool mask and a fun lightsaber you are in league with Nazis and honestly I don't feel bad for Disney they have billions of dollars but in a way I do feel bad for Disney cuz they went and they're like we should buy Star Wars Star Wars is fun everybody likes to it's fun people like the fun vehicles and the laser swords it's just a fun universe good heroes and dastardly villains and I've got a deal with the idea that there's people out there who think they're endorsing Nazism by selling first order backpacks to children you know oh you you sold kids at kylo Ren lunchbox why don't you just give him a swats to kind of carry the school disney the [ __ ] franchise is tainted by these psychopaths Disney you made a bad buy yeah you played your cards wrong George's Lucas still the smartest man in Hollywood dumped that toxic asset as quickly as he could now look I know just by making this video people are gonna call me a Nazi they're gonna say I'm gonna leave with fascists and it sucks honestly I've been kind of depressed coming to that realization that the more of these videos I make I don't know I guess I'm destroying my reputation as a person who cares about people and doesn't like Nazis I really don't like Nazis I really despise Nazis and it really really actually sucks once someone calls me a Nazi I get I get upset I'm about to play the card that I have Jewish friends card but I lived with four Jewish roommates there's some my best friend's in the world so when somebody is trying to establish me as a Nazi i yeah I get depressed I'm like well that sucks but I don't know man I'm one of these guys I can't shut my [ __ ] mouth I see this lunacy I see the world just descending into nonsense and I don't know I gotta say something I want to thank you guys who watch these videos who don't immediately go in the comments and say ah you just love fascism you're just making this video because you want a fascist government but you know kills people thank you for not having that opinion on me and I hope you guys will stick around hopefully I'll be here because every day that comes by I'm like you know you can just drive your car off a cliff it's not that hard just find a cliff jerk the wheel and all this is done with ah no I'm fine I'm fine I'm not gonna kill myself yet is this too dark we're getting too dark ladies
