Turtle Bay Resort: Our (Almost) Perfect 2-Day Stay on Oahu's North Shore

[Music] [Music] [Music] so we just got back from the best two days that we could have ever had on the North Shore on Oahu State the Turtle Bay Resort and we wanted to make a video not just giving you a review of the hotel but giving you a real like solid itinerary for everything you can do on the North Shore to have the best vacation because it's so great on North Shore great food great beaches great things to do we're pretty much obsessed and we're already trying to explain our next trap we're from the Hawaii vacation guide calm right now we are going to give you a full review of its early hotel but more importantly show you how you can plan the best vacation on the North Shore all the activities to do where to eat everything we are so excited because we love it the North Shore is great it's for all worth the trip we spent like a week in Waikiki we have a great time Waikiki's great good sense of location but to really experience North Shore we decided to hop in the car and do two days up at Turtle Bay and ten years ago we lived on Oahu for a couple years and always it was always my dream my secret dream to go stay at Turtle Bay because of that movie forgetting sarah marshall it just looked beautiful and it's the only resort on the north shore so like very secluded just a great resorts like it's a very nice place to go yeah so I built this up in my head over ten years it's like this it was it had to live up to my very high standards that I had set for it and then we knew we want to spend time in the North Shore because like we would be weekend warriors we'd always go up to the North Shore because we lived on the other side of wahoo and so we'd always go to the North Shore on the weekend just had a great time so like let's do this Royal it's bring Henry park ourselves to the North Shore or Park ourselves at Turtle Bay and then just go and check out the door sure yeah so after a week in Waikiki we woke up I was so excited I think Henry was very excited it was we jumped out bad the Sun was even up yeah yeah we drove up we probably left by 6:45 yeah it's about an hour drive up to Holly Ava yeah so we yeah we just hit the road and it was pouring pouring was like a taste of what was to come for that weekend yeah yeah but we stopped at Holly Ava cafe we had this great little breakfast feel like Lewis Surf Shack all the locals were in there he's really nice Oh like just dumping random sheets and so we were very safe and dry inside and just that was the start of our into a short trip [Music] it's like it's not heaven I'd like to think about your ghost Oh North Shore predict the weather February so then we got there early we're hoping they could check us in early but we're like well we'll just go snorkeling up on the North Shore right well show Henry all of our favorite historical places and like the secret beach where sea turtles always are people never are your so we definitely stopped there North Shore stood slam they close the beaches yeah they even had like police there to make sure no one like that on the beach yeah so it was a very different experience and we can't wait to go back in the summer wind changer a little bit yeah cuz it's definitely not ordinary you can still go swimming up there during the winter but yeah but yeah it was so our first stop was to the very picturesque boy Mayo Bay and so this day is beautiful they have surf competitions there don't think yeah anybody is there which is in the bay yeah it's right in the bay in the summer it's a beautiful circle they're so clear you have large cliff jumping you got a church like tower overlooking it it's an amazing place yeah this time not so much not that close but it was still really pretty you know it's those so we hung out at the beach and then decide to give up and then head to Turtle Bay check in early yeah [Music] and so get in there we drove in it this place is sprawling so let me we had come from foots housing Waikiki which are beautiful but not they're not resorts they're not sprawling resorts like turtle back Turtle Bay it's for your room so not that many people but you guys it's on 1300 acres 1300 acres boy five mile by mile bootstrap yeah five miles of beachfront it's insane yeah it's not too busy actual hotel sits on a peninsula and you have Turtle Bay on the north side and then the South's idea of Colima Cove so and then every room has a view every single room I mean and here's the thing I love so we walk in we go through the books how we walk in and we went to be real first in this room it is a good-sized hotel I felt like it was like a very good size we got the basic room great room right we got like you know like as cheap as we could get this is just a basic total big room but it's really quite reaching so they're gonna bring in an air mattress for Henry probably go over here somewhere with an example which I don't think what you much but you know maybe tomorrow the next day a little bit nicer huge balcony where we would sit out and have dinners and tiki torches below us you know the waves crashing these beautiful views what if they offend the town that was really nice are you enjoying the view oh yeah [Music] let me give you a quick overview of turtleman so Turtle Bay has more in her room as Ocean Villas and cottages and it sits on over 800 acres and has over 5 this place has so many activities it is very very kid-friendly if you bring your kids but it also seems to cater to couples and honeymooners and like so it's really just good for everyone plus you are in town it's so close to all the activities so we're going to give you a tour show you something highlights show you these things we don't like and then some great things that you can find in this area Turtle Bay you have the main hotel which every room has a view because you're out on the point but then you also have the ocean villas and that Ocean Villas area has its own pool so they have another setup we were in the main building and then you also have the Beach Villas which I think that's where they film thanks for doing me in the beach people forgetting sarah marshall they film well they feel lots of movies there but that's our favorite yeah next time maybe the beach but maybe [Music] [Music] [Music] we've been cited to hit up lunch yeah oh yeah so we're going to lay Lay's which is over on the golf course and we're looking for you know affordable lunch places cuz Turtle Bay their main place for family kind of friendly dining is Kula grill which is right next to the pool great views but unfortunately it was closed for a big remodel they're doing right now so a second best option was heading over to Lael aids which is one because we got to pump in a golf cart the ballet took us down a golf cart because it's still raining pretty bad yeah Henry left the golf cart ride and we had a good casual that's great very nice like yeah your bar you look in the golf course it's a nice place to go yeah yeah but for other dining so where to eat a turtle bay cool a girl opened back up and that's really good because kids eat free for five and under which is nice and then the other ones premium account upscale options is you have Royce Beach Club or beach house right on the water it's a Royce property you can't go wrong then they have an upscale Asian fusion restaurant ha ha K which is really nice we did not make it there just because we had Henry with us a toddler they have the surfer bar which is cool because joint venture with the surfer magazine' so it's kind of like you know hip and then the other one is it's called like the sunset pool bar which is poolside bar also right there in sunset where everyone goes to hang out the outline music that serves food also yeah so let's play sea in the resort itself so we only had two days there so we had to be very choosy about Tiffani's very efficient and we have a toddler with us and it was raining so like there weren't that many things that we can actually choose from yeah but what I loved was so all of these hotels they all advertise like oh we have this we have this we have this activity but when you get there like you kind of lose track of what they say they'll have offer and you don't know where to find it but not at your leg if they had this guideposts like in the center of the hotel lobby yeah on the way to the elevators they always had two people stationed there computers touch screens and they're there to like cheerfully be like let's go do something yeah see horseback riding there's surf lesson category goes surfing with the dog yeah all this fun stuff to do and these people are there to help you like book it and plan it and they have a regular concierto but like normal they're like parked in the corner you don't see them yeah so this guide post this is really cool much more what does it do that is cool because you know sometimes you walked around hotels here and they have those activity shacks and they're like they're timeshares yeah their journey to do a tiny chair for two hours that was not video of Turtle Bay they were just like look at all these awesome things you can do here how are you plan it yeah that's very nice yeah also I didn't know this but if you horseback ride needs they have 12 miles of horseback trails on their resort progress their own stables so I mean this place in case you can't tell it like we lived up to my very high expectations yeah it was a lot of fun a lot money the first day after we checked in we got breakfast and everything and listed the beaches which were mainly closed I had some work to do so I stayed at the room but Jordan Henry went out to hey who's ready for the pool we didn't go to the pool where we calm papad pool there we are a little father-son full time at Turtle Bay finally the sun's out there's a break in the storm so we're going swimming push your button nope we're going down all right going up come on down there you go nice job buddy whoo huh oh yeah really big pool it's got like a kid section has a waterslide to it it's got hot tubs it also has a pool bar which is really nice the sunset pool bar and then they also have two Banias three different types there's a lot of families we're using the cabanas they face the ocean it was just a nice vibe there and actually especially from coming from Waikiki where all the pool chairs are like scrunched up next to each other this is all spread out this tell never gets that busy yeah even though the weather was bad it was just yeah really a laid-back place Henry night just had a great time and it makes me Ben it gets up to 11 3 feet a little much for me we got rain again this is a great free benefit of Turtle Bay is you can rent movies which is nice especially when the weather's been bad like here so it makes Henry happy because they give you these nice little cards you can just grab a DVD it's kind of fun because I have a rented DVD it's like blockbuster went out of business mm-hmm so it's been a while boom there we go is it scratched up no just a little fingerprint but I remember this was last time you did that home oh and he can pick up a movie and go yeah so that was fun so we just kind of snuggled inside for a little bit watched a movie relax it was like very relaxing and we were forced to relax slow down which is always good on the North Shore incinerator any quiet inner area that's all eyes all dark yeah the shorelines [Music] but it was a hungry we did get hungry and we didn't want to stay in the resort anymore so we went out and hit up the famous North Shore food truck so we had a craving for timeless yeah cool where we ended up with a lot of Thai food truck but we came back and we ate it on our lanai so the rain had you know died down it was just a little windy and so we sat on our lanai overloaded on the water eating our Thai food food trapped ourselves very cool [Music] you can't tell everybody just migrates down to to the beach and like the clip front and to watch the sunset I didn't know North Shore had such nonsense because we live in Kapolei before and after you see the sunset but how the North Shore's got worried in it on a kind of on this peninsula just beautiful views as I saw going down plus there's a blowhole there which was really cool everybody likes that around it you'd wait and then would like startle everybody yeah and I don't know if there during the summer because the waves are so big that's blowhole is just having its day in the Sun yeah but Henry absolutely loved it and we were down there all the time for the blowhole it was so fun and it was just it felt like a very like nice and vibe everybody going to sunset everybody you know some people out there cocktails there was a musician out there playing like it was just tiki torches were lit at the end then all these benches set off everyone just chitchat it was very nice and then the next day up bright and early Brian early up Henry woke up whoa cool you want to go back to the blowhole right away so Henry and I walk down walk the property when checked out the blowhole and like it's already buzz activity everyone's at like doing yoga in the yoga studio the gym was busy we just watched them and walked around herself [Applause] [Music] so the weather was better than I could say but still not like a beach day type day and so we wanted to go out and make them out so I started at edge bakery which is you're looking for a very carb heavy breakfast you can also get a five yeah the other cream pies are known for but you can almost drive right past this place this also you know it's like was there a line there yeah in like I mean yeah all the locals are lined up it's so nice it's really affordable you just kind of eat out underneath the picnic tables yeah pancakes all the basic good breakfast stuff you got then after Ted's bakery we headed to Waimea Valley which is Nixa Waimea Bay and you have to pay to get into this place like Botanical Gardens but it's really cool though because it's enough profit it's owned by Native Hawaiians neighborhoods there with stands selling like all their local goods it's really cool when we went for a wire maiya falls yeah and at first I like scoffed at the admission fee I was like oh we can walk to a waterfall and not pay money to see it but it was a there's pain and also when it's rainy like it makes it actually easy there are a lot of other waterfalls on the North Shore but it can be a little touch-and-go totally like they dry up a lot and then also somewhere on private property so they're like you've been issuing permits to solve them so Waimea fall strength is like a guarantee of waterfall friendly height it's 3/4 a mile [Music] right your mother making do that are short and you could do it and things like [Music] so today [Music] while clove in your hands the best [Music] [Music] whatever is going to Rose roller we probably should around the stroller this is Hawaii is what it feels like in the midst of a lush jungle Valley this is beautiful you give this on the North Shore we don't get this on the dry side of the island for holiness or Waikiki we get high rises this is more Hawaii I love it [Music] it's gonna be quite big waterfall one nice thing about paying for this hike is that thought safer they give you a lot of men of these like bathrooms and place the life preserver I feel benefit [Music] it's pretty cool margretta so after the waterfalls we had Holly Haven town which is like the most charming town a lot and we absolutely loved it this is like surfer vibes all the way and so we went and got Matsumoto shave I got to do that yeah Caffe he's got some banana bread that was awesome we checked out some art galleries that walk around the town I just love the vibe of the town yeah and then you have all of the kind of famous food trucks especially the shrimp trucks giovanni's which always has limey we got there at 10 o'clock and already 30 minute 11 so we got there like right after it open like 10 minutes there was already huge line and probably like 30 it's people moving eating there's another plate especially closer at Turtle Bay called Romi's and they serve never frozen shrimp is a farm it right there they have freshwater ponds and that's called Romi's and I saw the locals like to go to also yeah plus crowd laughing are shocked yeah that's the place to go so Holly it was got a lot of stuff to do you can get like the surf lessons where as the main beach there they also have sea turtles right on the Main Beach have stand up paddleboarding which we still have to do you go up that scream you usually paddle right by sea turtles sometimes even dolphins so there's a lot of things just the weather wasn't great still for us so we have to do that we focus on eating and yes there is the famous turtle gage but we have our favorites like more hidden we thought the lost Beach because the movie are the TV show Lost was filmed at this Beach and it's so hidden they would leave the set up at all times so we lived on the island we just go there walk around the set no problem there's no one ever there so you park in a residential neighborhood and you just take a little you know each path out to the beach it's a very very pretty Beach I feel like we've gone probably like 15 times so it's cute so it's great you know Turtles because like we said it was the surface so bad no turtles go get on that beach yeah no roads there this time what that hidden beaches where I would down yeah check out our article for the named event how to get there and stuff like that it's well worth it [Music] so after a holiday up in town we decided to head back to Truro back and you guys we saw it so much of the day like at this point yeah we're really good yeah it's been another few yeah couple hours of the pool yeah Eric insist on this I'm hoping I can impress Henry with my skills going down the waterslide what's great about Turtle Bay is assume the course Henry's not tall enough yet notoriety so he's very disappointed we're going to come back the waterslide was actually faster than I thought it with really good time going down the waterslide I know it's like meant for children yeah no it's all about yeah so we headed to Royce with the idea of doing dinner there they didn't open up the kitchen making for dinner until 5:00 and Henry hardly read something around there Henry start getting older really early so we decided to head back to our favorite spot lay lays up back in the golf cart right over delays yeah and this time it since it wasn't raining we got to kind of wander around the golf course too you know so give a toddler a big pro-poor language well it's very cool Oh bum-bum-bum-bum-bum was your your pardons today Henry was it a helicopter ride all right this is a little silly hi I like Turtle Bay because we're forgetting sarah marshall was filmed this is a great movie I prayed for Russell Brand has a whole yoga studio seen it anyway this is a full know a thing about Turtle Bay you can't see things in the movie all over the resort so we've got a nefarious facelift as long and then that night we just again after lay leaves we join everyone for the sunset [Music] [Applause] [Music] body uh behind you behind you buddy credit oh boy it is let them know their beautiful sunset is really nice like a dream you guys just it's dislocated it really exceeded if you're looking for free things to do on the North Shore is a why vacation guy calm slash North Shore and we'll give you a local guide of all the free things you can do you're never joking are not big fences lobby and colds pretty simple do we hurt Tropez light and redoing all of this so they're gonna get rid of this with this little lounge right here and bar open it up you could really get beautiful views of the beach and surprise the Sun rises right out front curl back the next morning we were flying out so we had the long drive back to Honolulu to Plateau therefore it actually wasn't too bad it was another hour I would say drive less than an hour but when tip if you are heading out in the morning heading to the airport stop at sunrise shack in your short another food truck but it was great so you know I ables we had some like breakfast banana toasty sage bulletproof coffee yeah love them those are so good yeah it was my first time my first time having one [Music]
