Travelling Japan in Style | 500km in 3 Days

so how many did you manage hello 15 15 yeah I'm so proud so proud but realtor all said if you do less than 100 you're a loser ready yep I got monkey but he's just a bad man I've been bad bad indeed two years ago I tragically lost a bet doing the Wanko soba noodle challenge a challenge that involves stuffing yourself with as many bowls of soba noodles as possible without being physically sick slowly did I lose the bet but my reputation as a man was completely destroyed as apparently a man should be able to eat over a hundred bowls and I only managed 44 but recently I had a chance of redemption when my friend realtor and I traveled 500 kilometres across North Japan in three days over the years many people have asked me where they can get traditional Japanese clothes to try on while they're in Japan and I've never really know I've not been an expert on the subject Byam now Japan's largest tourism company jtv just started to service where you can rent traditional Japanese clothes from shops across most cities in Tohoku have them professionally fitted and then go off and travel around realtor oh and I were invited to try out this service and wear them whilst traveling around for three days across tour Hawker two amazing and sometimes bizarre locations that I didn't even know existed with the journey ending with a Wanko soba noodle battle to the death except without death sorry our journey began in the city of Koriyama where we were joined by Hana a Taiwanese blogger who'd also be coming along on the journey so these are our new cutters here we can choose from a trick to choosing the perfect yukata is to try and conceal your weight so I think a black one is the best one right there's a correct the black one make you look slimmer yet so I want this one look like a prince or something yeah I am actually I feel like am i right freeze muffins I went with this pattern in the air yeah that's what I found it conceals my yes siga better than London but the patterns are a good distraction actually you know what what kimonos it's like you you need to be a bit if you're like a little bit chubby now she should suit you better obviously I have one new cutter quite a lot of people working on this to make it look message finished finished oh what a handsome young man sure for our first destination we headed deep into the mountains of North Japan to visit the village of orchha juku an old stopping off point for travelers hundreds of years ago it was here that we would also be having quite a peculiar lunch this is one of the best views in talking yeah I guess I don't realize envy yeah I think if you're gonna walk through one town in Japan wearing a yukata it should be here what you do feel obviously the most distinctive thing is the roof it's a roof yeah it's made out of the straws are from the rice ah that's pretty cool yeah so not only can you eat rice but you can turn it into a house that's right alright so we are the restaurant and that we're going to eat soba this sorbet is very special you need to eat it with a long onion with a long onion again how's that even possible surely the onion would just sort of ride flop well we're gonna make a posse you really weren't killing rails oh I wasn't kidding that's an onion what's like what what it does is that this onion um gives canvas little bit the spice yeah and so to add some flavor to it you can just you can pick up because of it he picks so proud oh I think I am oh so difficult it's the first time I've been somewhere where you can eat the utensil that you're using to eat won't think of any other time I've got that is true and this is the this is the only place in the whole Japan that they do this yeah eating with an onion boy unique way to eat a food yes but like my onions getting shorter that's a problem here when that happens after our delicious lunch of noodles and onion we left otter Dooku and stopped off in an antique good shop in the nearby town of izu Wakamatsu it was here we grabbed a popular old-fashioned soda drink called rum in it a drink that can often feel more like handling explosives and then back alright ready yeah move it a little boy here there's a boy here so he doesn't if you just put it too too high then your stick oh cool the things crashing very nice that yeah then and then who thought this out we thought oh yes it's a really good idea and now there's a little ball in their way in here so when you pull it up like that and then if you do it too much that's it nothing's coming out yeah it's magic with the ball oh god stop this is always dangerous drinking without pressure for our last stop of the day we wanted to grab some souvenirs so we headed to a famous local shop sculpting figurines and masks with one rather questionable mask in particular standing out it's one of the one of our gods that's what Pingu Tinga Tinga with a long nose okay is no doubt noble noble phallic is it if so I would be quite scared if it God came towards me with a nose like that yeah that's why it's actually too scary on to buy products but it also it tries to kind of prevent only human beings to go into the mountains because it's almost like a God but not only protesting but he actually sometimes hurt are people who know not what yes with that nose no flippin Eck I must admit it is a slight improvement as we walked around the shop the owner was sitting quietly in the corner carefully hand painting the figurines silently and elegantly and then all of a sudden he threw on a change of clothes pulled out a retro boombox and did this Oh haha haha and that's how the first to have our trip ended the next morning we caught the train to Sendai and dropped into the local kimono shop to switch clothes so uh you ain't black flick do I look thin uh you look thin no oh it doesn't help at all ready yeah I think this one's better than the one yesterday you think so yeah because it conceals my stomach why do you so much care about concealing yourself though it's I like to be overweight if the entire well that's the overweight but give the illusion of being thin that's the that's the Western dream with who's really Western culture Samuraizer I let's go our first stop of the day was in Mackay gorge and it was here that we would discover the exciting future of food delivery there's a sweet shop over there making a kind of dango which is a kind of chewy rice sweet it's quite far away it's actually across this gorge but the guy worked out and put a basket system in place that goes across the river you can sit here in this nice spot and enjoy his product so you hit this bit of wood here of this hammer put in your order and it'll send over the basket or we just we just hit the hit the wood yes please how hard we're very hard to smash the pass down to the good oh and seeing it oh the fastest basket pudding I've ever seen he's just changed the flag to what in which one he's container to the Union Jack and now he's wave it is like a window I'm playing playing the bridge find the national anthem I'm over mated Asaf go see the Queen god save the queen so fast I look all these drinks nothing spills how did he do that first ruin on ya is it nice like you know Widow they do like the scenery like that widow with the Goron I want all my I want all my food brought to me in a basket over a gorge from the county people are coming see this it's amazing it's the greatest marketing I've ever seen just if you have a restaurant just put your stuff in a basket and send over a gorge and the people come the only thing is might be quite difficult getting a Gorge build one lunch we stopped off and had some mouth-watering buys our be the most famous beef in iwate prefecture you see this is me the dipping sauce the terrain into the mouth what is face our last stop of the day was Hanamaki hot spring resort in a hotel that recently won numerous architectural awards however there was one rather worrying floor to this we've just arrived at Hanamaki onsen it's a hot spring resort in whitie prefecture and this place is called the choreo cart which means like the house of falling leaves but the first thing that got my attention was this sign warning of a pair of bears that inspired in the area around here and we're going for a walk can't we know yeah I'll be rubbish coming across bears before dinner I'll be truly unbearable in the end though we didn't have to worry about bears as we stayed in so realtor or could play a Pokemon go it's the day of Pokemon go being that it's been released and I mean he's been playing it more than I have why one level through still I'm on level 1 I've only caught Bulbasaur yes it's on your leg Oh nobody used to look cool there you got it Wow I got monkey monkey monkey monkey it was the final day of our trip and as the wanker saw the noodle challenge loomed ahead we first ventured into Akita prefecture to the town of Kakinada it a famous sandy ride town home to one of the best preserved samurai manners in all Japan so much armor how much does it weigh as it's around 25 kilos 25 kilos dear wife I'm going out in 25 kilogram samurai armor yeah it's not gonna do much good is it questionable weight-loss program we passed a stand selling my favorite Japanese drink called amazake a sweet drink made from the leftover rice grains used to produce Japanese sake local rice pudding in a drink sure that's the best way describe rice pudding nearly quick more liquid though yeah it's really really great snap a holic so anyone can drink it yeah and on a hot a very hot day like this it's the perfect thing to drink it's quite refreshing the time had come for wanker sober 44 bowls to be my previous record 100 bowls to beer man this is real tours first time all right really you did it when you were like 3 yeah 200 years ago and this is it this is big chunk and I suspect he's gonna beat me because he's everything Kanha was doing heard separately it was just being real tour with I'd eaten when I chose to stop however I've forgotten that when cassava is actually a game you're trying to beat the person giving you the noodles you can't stop until he put the lid on your empty bowl this was proving bloody difficult incredibly though I'd done it I'd finally be in a hundred bowl if you do arrive oh you 18 yeah I'm Yugi from 122 I was that 500 for 2222 oh and unloaded 100
