Toyota is in big trouble and newly appointed CEO Koji Sato has a shocking new plan that could radically transform the brand in 2023 while Ford GM and RAM continue to price Scouts truck Buyers Toyota thinks they have a better way of doing business and I think it's a totally genius move over the past few years Toyota has been fighting what seems like an endless struggle to get their trucks and SUVs onto dealer lots and into the hands of customers and once those Vehicles finally hit the Lots some dealers added insane markups to them 82 thousand dollars but the 25 000 markup when popular Vehicles like the new Toyota Sequoia redesigned Tundra and the highly anticipated gr Corolla finally hit the pavement some dealers were marking them up as high as twenty thousand dollars over for the sequoia or Tundra and the even thirty thousand dollars over MSRP on the gr Corolla which was supposed to be Toyota's affordable sports car Toyota's new CEO Koji Sato is trying to put a stop to these insane markups and in a recent meeting with dealers he revealed a plan to get more vehicle rolling off the assembly line to meet customer demand a few weeks ago GM CEO Mary Barrett decided to stop truck production to keep prices high but instead of screwing customers with high prices Toyota promised us dealers that it's rebuilding new vehicle inventory as quickly as possible and won't hold back on production in order to maintain high prices and low incentives VP David Christ even said we're going to build every Toyota we can get parts for that's a welcoming statement in a market where we're all tired of being overcharged and price gouged on just about everything I've been lucky enough to own a few Toyota SUVs in the past including a Trail Teams Edition FJ Cruiser and a 1993 80 series Land Cruiser this gave me a front seat into the world of Toyota and now I know why people love these vehicles so much even if you pay a bit more you're getting something of high quality that will last 10 times longer than most other trucks on the road today sorry Ford fans as of now Toyota inventory seems like it's starting to bounce back to pre-pandemic levels but if you go to any Toyota lot you'll barely see any inventory on the ground Ford Chevy and RAM are stocked up with more trucks than they can sell but Toyota can't seem to keep them on a lot so what's really going on here there are many reasons why inventory is low at Toyota dealers some of it has to do with the shortage of Parts but if you look a little bit closer at the window stickers the main reason why this is happening might actually shock you something big is happening at Toyota and almost nobody else is talking about it until now in my last video we went to Ford at GM Jeep and RAM to see why they were having such a hard time selling all of their vehicles now in today's video we're going to Toyota and then we're going to go to Nissan just to see if they're doing a similar situation as Ford or if they're more like Toyota in that they're having trouble getting inventory but they're still selling so let's find out the difference between the American truck manufacturers right now and the Japanese Market all right here we are at Toyota dealership here in Salt Lake City Utah and as you can see we got a Toyota Tacoma right here brand new nice and shiny looks like we've got some Tundras over in the back we got a few forerunners over here all right looks like we got a higher trim level Toyota Tundra right here it's got the nice trim package on it it is a platinum got nice black trim darker color wheels that liner already inside of it let's look at this sticker here got a Tundra 4x4 Platinum Crewmax with all the standard equipment suggested retail price of 65 105 we got some running boards special colors 68 525 for the retail price 17.95 for deliverance for delivery processing and handling with a total MSRP of seventy thousand three twenty now this isn't comparable to like an XL or xlt4 this is like a little bit higher trim level um but let me show you something over here uh I want to point out that there is no dealer like added stuff there's like nothing in the window you don't see any dealer added things and one thing that you didn't see at Ford is a big sold sticker right on the front and then no dealer add-ons the port sticker so these Toyotas are actually selling and they have sold stickers in the window waiting for customers to pick them up and that's not the only one here we've got another Platinum right here all blacked out looks really really nice this one's a little bit cheaper at 67.79 uh also four-wheel drive Platinum Crewmax and if you go around to the top there's a sold sticker right here so Toyota is getting trucks they've got SUVs um and the lot doesn't look as full but I just think that they they're probably not getting as many as Ford GM Ram uh Jeep or whatever but what they do have but when the trucks do come in they sell they sell and they sell really really fast here's another example here's a Toyota Tundra TRD in the nice green color that I like Tundra 4x4 limited Crewmax 6.5 suggested retail of 54 000 TRD off-road a bunch of other stuff down there sixty thousand four hundred four dollars again no dealer add-on sticker no markup uh again it's sold sold sold so we got a bunch of new forerunners here we got another new Tacoma also with a sold sticker inside of it that's sold that's sold that sold that sold that sold that sold but I think you get the point literally just about every truck SUV on this lot uh has a salt sticker in it which is pretty crazy I actually did not expect to see that here's another Tacoma that has a salt sticker in it MSRP of 41 242 and it's a TRD 4x4 now one interesting thing is while Ford had all kinds of like xlts uh kind of in the low to mid 60s just sitting on a lot not selling these are a little bit higher trim level Platinum Toyotas we even got the TRD one way back there and they're all slow so even though these Toyotas are a little bit higher trim level a little bit higher on the MSRP there is no markup on any of them that I could see in the window and they're sold and there's a lot of reasons why Toyota is still selling and for GM and RAM are not over the past few years America's pickup truck manufacturers got Greek and marked up just about every truck they had on the lot well over MSRP now that dealers are getting inventory again Ford and GM decided that instead of lowering prices they would just increase the MSRP so their dealers could make the same amount of money without having to add any markup over MSRP Toyota is selling out of vehicles but if you go to any Ford dealer lot it's easy to see why most of their trucks are not selling so I forgot to mention that for this video I'm actually in Salt Lake City Utah and what I want to do is I know we're looking at Toyota we're about to jump to Nissan here in just a moment and go visit a dealer down the street what I wanted to do first is see what Ford is doing in Salt Lake City do they have trucks and are they still high prices and are there any markups above MSRP and this is just to do a fair comparison of the Boise Idaho Market the Texas market and Salt Lake City to see if this is happening everywhere or just localized alright so here we are it looks like Larry H Miller are super Ford and this is a pretty good sized Ford dealership and just like the other Ford dealers it looks like we've got a lot of F-150s all along this wall here we do have some Ford Explorers all back here and way in the back we got a little bit of Ranger action going on so I want to just check and see what different trim levels I have and the prices they're selling for looks like we got two platinums right here and I'm looking for two things I'm looking to see what the MSRP of these are and if there's any dealer add-ons and in the previous videos we actually didn't look at any of the platinums and I just looked at the price and honestly I had sticker shock this will blow your mind check this out 2023 F-150 4x4 SuperCrew Platinum Series for 39.50 and a bunch of other options that can take your MSRP from 68490 to a whopping 83 625 dollars that's right this truck behind me is 83 000 and it's a it's just an F-150 Platinum with some leather and a little bit of fancy bits and stuff but honestly you're not gonna notice that that much of a difference and I've I've had a couple of four trucks I had two Raptors and this is not worth 82 000 that just blows my mind I can't see how anyone can afford these and that's why they're just sitting on the line 83 000 is just insane let's go ahead and check some of these other trim levels here I want to find more of like a base one and I think they're working on the line from the higher trim levels all the way down we've got a couple of lariats here got a Super Crew 2023 Lariat package 78 440. I don't even want to look at that one because it's probably going to be the same all right I found an STX let's go see what's up with this thing got a nice white STX 4x4 some good Wheels tires nothing too crazy let's go look at the sticker 2023 F-150 4x4 super cab pretty base trim level 49 700 the other dealerships I couldn't find any F-150s under 60 something thousand dollars and it took going to three different states Boise Idaho Texas and now Salt Lake City finally find an F-150 more of a lower trim level for under sixty thousand dollars now the only thing about the STX and that's probably why it makes it so much cheaper is the STX is not for large doors it's it's the two-door more regular cab like I mean it's extended cab you know what I mean so apparently if you want to get a two-door F-150 you can get one under 60. but anything higher than that is just going to be more than what people are willing to pay right now there's another layer there there's another two-door STX right here but I think I finally found an F-150 XLT let's see how much this is running and there you have it F-150 XLT 4x4 super cab 61 875 yeah can't get an F-150 for under sixty thousand dollars in the crew cab and there's a big difference why the tundra is like more expensive at the higher trim levels the tundra is still not 80 something thousand dollars like you see these platinums but Ford is just extremely overpriced for what you get I mean why would you pay eighty two thousand dollars for this Platinum when Ford's reliability is just really in the tank right now Ford's reliability sucks and the Toyotas are actually selling because the prices on a higher end Tundra are a little bit less than these Platinum F-150s I don't know if they're an equal comparison or not you guys can talk about that in the comments but a Toyota is still selling because the quality is still there it's not as good as when they had the older V8s in the Sequoias and the Tundras back in the day with the they have the new twin turbos now the reliability is slightly lower but it's always going to be better than these Fords and it's kind of disappointing because I love Ford I've had two Raptors I think they're a great brand and they make fun trucks they're just incredibly overpriced for what you get now let's go down to another Nissan dealership that's not playing copyrighted music and see what's going on with Nissan Nissan is kind of a weird outlier in this pickup truck market and it doesn't get as much attention as the other brands the Nissan Titan is one of the least selling full-size trucks and up until the latest refresh the Nissan Frontier was getting super old and outdated I wanted to go over to a Nissan dealer to see what was going on and compare it to Ford and Toyota and what I saw was so surprising that I might actually have to buy a Nissan again all right we have finally made it to Nissan in the truck situation here looks a little bit more sad than at Toyota and I don't know if it's because Nissan is selling more or they're just not getting as much inventory but we got two Titans right here and we got a frontier Pro 4X way back here and then way down there on the line there's one more Titan so it's pretty much Slim Pickens here at Nissan but the good news is we got two different trim levels of the Titan to look at so let's see how this Stacks up compared to a tundra and the Ford F-150 let's take a look at the Titan SV 4x4 because this is going to be more of a XLT kind of similar trim level they may not be exact or whatever but at least it's a fair comparison between the brand it does have four doors and a crew cab we've got a 2023 Nissan Titan 5.6 liter V8 engine with four-wheel drive and it's an SV and the MSRP is 56 485 so this looks like the best deal if you want a four-wheel drive crew cab pickup truck not only is it 56 000 for a more base level trim on the Nissan but you're also getting a really good V8 engine now let's check out this Pro 4X which is a little bit of a higher trim level we've got a 2023 Nissan Titan 5.6 liter V8 engine Pro 4X four-wheel drive the difference between this one does have the uh Bilstein shock and an electronic locking rear differential you have a base retail price of 52 000 a little bit added extra but these are by the manufacturer not the dealer got the mud flaps the steps utility package all this fun stuff MSRP of 59040. so this trim level actually has a locking rear diff Bilstein monitor shocks leather Dash leather on the seats with cloth in the middle so this is a little bit higher in trim level and it's a pro 4X and it's still under sixty thousand dollars and I think the reason we're seeing not very many on the lot here is I think it's the same situation as Toyota these are priced really really well and honestly this is really the best bang for your buck if you want a full wheel drive with a V8 engine and the nicer trim level like leather interior they're probably not that many on the lot because more than likely like Toyota they're actually selling these things so we've got Toyota that they're getting them in a little bit slowly but every single one on the lot was sold you've got Nissan where they don't look like they have as much inventory but the lot still has quite a bit of stuff you've got some Rogues and Muranos and stuff over here but it looks like the Japanese manufacturers are kind of sticking it to the USA right now and I think if Ford GM Jeep and RAM want to compete with these Japanese manufacturers they're gonna have to do two things they're gonna have to lower the MSRP of their trucks and they're also gonna have to increase their reliability because Toyota is just killing the game on that
