everybody this is Josh here the great bird a green beret wanted to do a video and show you kind of going into 2019 even though we're a few months into and already and I'm a little behind thanks for noticing so I want to show you some of the knives that I feel tested in 2018 and before so nothing on this table that I'm gonna show you how start hemp has been tested in 2019 because I don't like to do a whole lot of reviews and give an endorsement of a knife that I haven't used extensively in the field so this was all used in 2018 so kind of going into 2019 these are knives that I tested last year some of them longer than just last year that I think are definitely good field knives and I'm limited to fixed blade knives there are a couple of outliers in here one is particularly useful as a Carver one is a particularly good chopper that I tested but for the most part the rest of them are fixed blade belt knives that are great for field use and keep in mind that I'm not comparing these one against the other I'm not choosing a favorite I'm actually going to list this as an order of price from lowest price perfectly capable knife to highest price perfectly capable a knife for the field that but it's also limited of course to the models that I tested so I'm not saying one is better than the other this one's better than that one what I am saying is I tested all of these extensively in the field and all of these are worth having so after that it's on you which one you like the best starting in price from lowest all the way up to the highest this first one is the Mora companion mg this is not the heavy duty model this is not the HD this is just the straight mg and I've used this for a few years actually and found it completely adequate and it does everything that you actually need a knife to do so this is a you know roughly four inch blade so if I think it's maybe 4.1 inches it's a carbon steel blade it has a Scandi grind a plastic handle that goes over a partial tang this is not a full tang knife doesn't really need to be in my opinion a really really great knife for the field I think and then it's got kind of a rubberized high friction grip on the outside of that like I said I've used this for a few years now and it's performed extremely well for me these retail for probably you know around twelve to fifteen dollars and you just can't beat it for the price so that is the Mora companion it does not have a ninety degree spine on it I had to put that on with a file it also has the typical plastic more sheath that these clip into rather securely so nothing wrong with these sheets so that is the more companion mg the next one that I find to be a really really good knife is the more bushcraft black this is another 4.1 inch high carbon stainless this actually has the dlc coating on here that that is a corrosion resistant that really goes along the way towards preventing any sort of rust or corrosion on your blade it is a carbon steel like I said it's another partial tang it's not a full tinting it's got a rubber overmold and grip really comfortable a Scandi grind this one actually does have a 90-degree spine from the factory that's great for processing tender and as well as striking a Ferro rod so this has been a fantastic knife typical more of plastic sheath Clips insecurely nothing at all wrong with this I think I have three of these I like them so much so this is the Mora bushcraft black another house standing value I think these run for roughly 42 to 48 dollars so we'll call it 45 dollars or so for this outstanding knife or the so can't go wrong with that the next knife that I find that I really like a lot and I reach for quite often is the Mora carbon Garber you can tell I reach for it often this is the one that I really really like this one actually has I believe about a 4.3 inch carbon steel blade it has the black dlc coating on it that prevents corrosion that does have a 90 degree spine on it it's a Scandi grind again this one actually has a full tank and it's got an exposed tank in the back that also has a 90 degrees I believe this was a little different handle materialist feels like I believe they're calling it Apollo Meyde but it's kind of a rubbery plasticky feeling it doesn't feel like either you know it's not like it's not as grippy as the rubber but it's not hard like a plastic it kind of has a nice feel to it and Morris have very simple handles it's very comfortable this comes with a choice of sheath so you can get a plastic sheath with multi mount so you can mount it on all kinds of different things or you can get a leather sheath with a fold over and when I bought mine and I actually bought it with the multi mount system personally I didn't care for that system so I've just made a leather sheath for it myself which I really like and that snaps in there just like it was a Kydex sheath I like this style sheath that sits on my belt more securely I really don't like personally don't like danglers and I don't like dangly sheets to where the knife is swinging around on my belt loop I like it to stay put so that's why I went with this particular one these go for about ninety to one hundred and five dollars so for around a hundred dollars you know you've got a full tang carbon steel belt knife that just performs outstanding so that is the more carbon Garber highly highly recommend this one from there you know we've kind of gotten out of the more a price range and we start going up in price the next one that I want to talk to you about is the PKS Kephart which has been an one of my favorites this is a cap art style from PKS Pathfinder knife shop so we've got a sharpened spine that comes standard on all the PKS knives these particular ones are the dirty by designing you know where it still has the forged finish which I really like they all have the Scandi grind so this one has the scheme you grind as well extremely sharp this particular one has curly maple handles and it's a full tank blade these retail for around $99 and then the sheath is about the leather sheath that you can get for it is about another 35 so this one comes in at about a hundred and thirty four dollars but the PKS Kephart has been one of my choice knives really really liked it so that one's staying in the rotation and in the collection for sure PKS Kephart next same price range a little different knife this is the PKS scorpion this is not the Scorpion HD but again you've got the dirty by design forged finish you've got the 90-degree spine Scandi grind full tang curly maple handles this one has a little more contour a little more air gonna mix to the handles and it's a slightly different profile of course but there is nothing at all wrong with this knife I've really enjoyed using this this knife as well so this one's again $99 leather sheath another 35 so you're coming in at around one hundred and thirty four dollars for a really good full tang belt knife in that then kind of jumping brands here just because of the price this one is kind of one of the outliers this is more of a carver but I have used this for five days in the field as my primary so it does function for both this is the cam rat that is made by LT right and I think he makes them specifically for Less the river but craft but this is about a three and a quarter inch blade 101 tool steel holds a really good edge sharpens up nicely carbs like a champ I love the actual shape of the handle film it kind of fits your hand very well now they actually took the time to come up really far with the edge so you don't lose a whole lot of a workable edge on such a short blade because it comes right up there to the handle um and this one I has a lanyard on it because the way the sheath is designed it's a particularly deep fit in the sheath so in order to get it out I just think it's easier to have that lanyard to get it out but anyway full tank Scandi grind oh one tool steel 90 degrees spine sharp 90 degrees find micarta handles full tang and a leather sheath the whole thing comes in around a hundred and sixty dollars and I have used this even though it's a shorty I've used it as a primary knife for several days in the field perfectly fine love this little knife highly recommended then also in keeping with the LT right brand the next one that I'll talk to you about is the LT right gns and GN s stands for go no-show ously it's it's all go and no show kind of thing this is another really cool knife really great knife that I've used for for quite some time now a one tool steel again and it has a good man agree spine this particular one I got in a scandi I think there's other grinds available but the one I tested the one I prefer is the Scandi grind it has this one has micarta handles again it's a full tang knife this particular blade itself is a hundred and forty nine dollars and then your come you're getting a leather dangler sheath for another forty so 189 dollars for that package together like that I don't particularly like danglers so I take the danglers off and just like that that's just my personal preference but it does come with a dangler and it comes with a Ferro rod loop really nice leather sheets so can't go wrong with that one I don't the next one is far as price range we're jumping up to about a hundred and ninety nine dollars and this is the outlier it's another outlier kind of like this little Carver this particular one is is a chopper but this is the PKS force tool and I have loved this thing ever since I got it I've used it quite a bit but this is a massive piece of 1095 steel and it also has the sharpened spine this one has a convex grind that adds some strength to that you know which makes sense since it's primarily a chopper it's got a 10-inch blade but about eight and a half of that is actually sharpened in this particular part right here isn't so that you can choke up and use it for more finer carving tasks again full tang curly maple handles forged finish this thing has been through the wringer and came out unscathed this tool is a permanent fixture in my kit and I love it wouldn't trade it so it's worth it you're talking about a massive piece of 1095 and you're talking about a lot of leather in this sheath and that has included in the $199 price so I think that's a fantastic value and this is a fantastic addition to anyone's kit just kind of a short mystic a short machete or a large chopper but like I said I really really love this forest tool from Pathfinder knife shop outstanding then back to the LT rights this particular LT ride is one of my favorite personal favorite LT rights and that is the LT right Genesis this is another Kephart style you can tell this one gets a lot of field use I like the 90 degree spine this is a2 tool steel so another good tool steel high carbon Scandi grind is what I prefer on all my blades so that's the one that I actually ordered this one has the desert iron what handles with the black liner so kind of a natural look to it just a really classy knife that works extremely well and I also like that this particular blade has some scallops on it that makes for finer carving tasks makes them that much easier I just think it's a overall a really really comfortable knife so I believe these start at about 170 dollars and then the sheath of course is $40 added to that so that particular sheath again has a dangler and the Ferro rod loop I just take all my danglers off because I don't like that personally so fantastic knife really liked this one as well and the last night that I want to go over with you is the Bark River bushcrafter and this particular blade is CPM 3b there are other choices but mine is CPM 3v it does have a sharpen spine it's got kind of a combination scandi but instead of a Scandi grind it's really a convex grind that just starts down here so it's a scandi Mex style grind and it's got about a 3.9 inch blade really nice comfortable grip of course it's full tang micarta handles lanyard hole this has a really nice leather sheath with a Ferro rod loop and this one comes in at around 250 dollars so this is definitely a higher end but that's mainly because of the CPM 3b steel really well made can't go wrong with this if it's in your budget another good choice so that is the Bark River bushcrafter and these are all great choices hopefully you like them if you want to get some I'll put some links down below where to get them if you're in the market for some blades these are the ones that I can honestly recommend because I've used them extensively in the field and these are worth it absolutely great blades thanks for watching
