hello welcome back to fish gum fans my name is Tony fangio nyan I am the inventor of fish gum bait in the creator of fish gum the channel thank you so much for watching today I'm gonna give you the top five surf fishing mistakes that I believe are most common to either people getting started in surf fishing or people who have been surf fishing a long time like myself here we go surf fishing mistake number one is that you are fishing dirty water dirty water by far is a huge mistake to surf fish Larry fetch a legend in surf fishing circles here along Flagler Beach Jacksonville st. Augustine that guy's a legend his number one thing he looks for when surf fishing for pompano especially is clean water why pompano our site feeders and cent feeders the clearer the water the more opportunity to potentially catch pompano in this video right here you can tell this this water is extremely dirty not only with chocolate milk colors as you can see it in the surf but also there is June grass in this water listen I had nowhere else to go that day and I had a little bit of time to fish so I'm kind of fish dirty water sometimes because that's just the only opportunity I had the fish we landed more catfish that day than we did pompano although we did catch one pompano and that made fishing dirty water tolerable but don't do it take some time to see where there may be other areas within an hour drive from you you may have cleaner water driving an hour away go do it especially if you're going to be surf fishing early in the morning hey I get it when you get you want to fish I get it but if you have an opportunity to plan and prepare to find that clean water you will have a better experience catching pompano surf fishing surf fishing mistake number two is just fishing random spots on the beach maybe it's the closest walk to you maybe it's just behind your condo whatever it is don't be random and where you go surf fishing with this day and age of an information highway you can look at fishing reports you can call a friend you can check out websites you can check out Facebook with all these different surfacing forums and just ask a question what areas are hot if someone communicates to you a hot area then your next step is to find some type of beach structure that those fish will be holding up my weather because there's a food supply a traveling zone or maybe man-made structures like jetties peers or even reefs all those areas hold fish if you're not good at reading the beach go find videos on YouTube of how to read the beach I think beach bomber fishing just put one out I thought it was great but look for areas of the beach that look different I talked to this commercial surf fisherman and I asked him what's the most fish you've caught from the shore surf fishing he said I cut a hundred and seventeen pompano because I was at a spot on the beach that was literally a deep cut through a sandbar in the pompano we're traveling through that cut all day it was like a highway of Pompano he tossed his surf fishing jig in there his pompano jig and Slade the pompano because he found not a random area of the beach but a specific area that was different with a pompano we're running through a cut so don't be random in your surf fishing spot the third common surf fishing mistake is the one I make the most I'm gonna be honest with you I have made this mistake 99% of time as I produced surf fishing content for you this is a mistake I make all the time that is not casting baits up close to the surface in this video just most recently we fished the jetties every single pompano was caught within fifteen to thirty feet from the shoreline all five of those big pompano right in front don't neglect fishing right up close with a pompano commonly run feeding on sand fleas as they wash back into the surf from the shore line don't be like me an idiot fish up close surf fishing mistake number four this mistake surf fishing mistake number four is that you're not bringing multiple bait options surf fishing there are many surf fishing options to bring with you in terms of bait while you're Sur fishing fresh shrimp frozen shrimp fresh dead shrimp live shrimp ghost shrimp sand fleas clams oysters cut bait fish bites fish gum I recommend bringing at least three baits surf fishing if you bring any less than that you decrease your chances of catching targeted species of fish listen I have had many days where I have surf fished and the pompano were feeding on fish come and wouldn't touch trap or sand please I am so glad I had fish come or it's the opposite they weren't touching fish come and they were eating ghost shrimp that day or sand fleas that day I would never have caught the fish had I not bring multiple bait options you will be more successful in the surf bringing at least three fresh bass surf fishing the fifth and it is a crime to do this surf fishing don't do it it is the biggest mistake of all times my number one mistake number five here it is you are fishing with rotten bait don't even try to bring the black shrimp the smelly red look in front that's been in your freezer or been in your refrigerator for four or five days or the shrimp you left outside because you were too lazy to bring it into the refrigerator or the blacks and fleas or the ones they're turning gray the ones to begin to smell bad don't go fish in with that bait leave it at home throw it in the water get rid of it the only thing you're really gonna catch consistently is catfish get yourself fresh bait fish bites get old they turn they turn discolored white and hard as a rock if you see those at Walmart don't buy those buy the fresh fish bites when fish gum gets out I will have a born-on date with fish come and tell you exactly how old it is and you should fish with it between nine months into a year you'll know exactly what you're buying with fish gum and how old it is and when you should fish it before it goes bad or goes old don't fish with old bait I know some of y'all out there are gonna comment saying well you know I had my best day on rotten shrimp no you didn't you maybe had a good day but you're not gonna have your best day ever use an old bait take it from me I've done it it does not work well do not use rotten bait I hope I didn't sound condescending in this review of the top five sir fishing mistakes that I have made if I'm condescending I'm on I'm condescending about myself because I have made all these mistakes it takes true humility to admit what you've messed up and to change your ways so any of y'all watching this take some humility you're not the best surf fishermen in the world neither am i I don't claim to be I am learning just like you I have learned from my
