Thousands of Pencils Floating Down a River Table..

[Music] okay folks welcome back so today I've got something a little bit weird for you a little bit different ah you've already seen the thumbnail that's why you're here right we're gonna be making a funky looking river tables Derek but not just any River table Oh No this one has got a bit of twists of it so as you see we're gonna be making this little river table and it's always debating or not whether or not to make it a kind of a large table or a sort of a coffee table type of shape but I'm gonna go in between I'm gonna make kind of a larger coffee table but not as big as a dining room table I think I'm walking in a little bit now let me show you the wood so this is the wood that we've got we picked up in this quite a large piece of books we're definitely not gonna need it this big and piece of blueprints there pens are riveting so we've got a little number one make a mold like that that's some now and we want the kind of pencils to be kind of in but falling out with the table kind of down and then we move on to section two which is our River table we're gonna stop it about here because we need to sort of fix this so that somehow and no idea yet how to do that then number three we've got this which is kind of gonna look a bit more like this when it's done I hope or no idea you probably know more than me cuz you've seen the thumb now and I haven't well I have but you know what me and then we're gonna build this and that's gonna kind of come up well this is this is that basically we're just gonna stick into there anyway I don't know these are my kind of idea the idea I've got I sort of drew it on an aeroplane on the way back from holiday in the middle of the sky and that my dear I've got this is the kind of thing that I'm visualizing it going to end up looking right something like that I don't know who knows [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] if this isn't funky then I don't know what is [Music] [Music] okay so I have no idea what I've just done but I think it's what I need to do [Music] what they you look at this for a mold Wow hey there's any taking me like a day it's a kind of like build this mold and that one as you can see I've put some flesh tight around this as well just to kind of give it a bit of an extra kind of like well to stop the resin from coming out I've seared it up pretty well whale oh I've seen what it up pretty when and as you can see you've got this little dipping here and the idea around this is that this section will be kind of up its as such and then that will sit at peace there this piece here this piece here will sit kind of on the table and then obviously you'll have your River pencils coming out of the table here and then coming out flowing down and then this section will fit into their hat see I knew I had a little bit of a plan for that piece love it when a plan comes together [Music] also got a funny feeling that we're gonna need more resin and more pencils [Music] [Music] as you can see our finished sanding down now all the resin from the bottom of the table dust was all over the place but I had my safety goggles on as you can see excuse me I've got a little bit of dust my eyebrow there there is a tendency to get a little bit of dust in the hair but it's fine just make sure you wear good goggles and a good mask [Music] [Music] right so this is now D molded it actually took me ages to do this 2d mold it because there was all sorts of bits and bobs in this mold but look at the chunk of resin that is some serious resin look how much of it I have used I mean it's absolutely well now you'll see that we've done various pause on this and there are some bubbles in it but that is fine folks it's fine I mean what rivers do you find without bubbles as you can see the idea is this will slot into there and this will slot somehow in there and then we fill that with pencils to come out so the river and pencils will come out skew and flow down the floor oh yes baby [Music] it may look like a concoction of weirdness that's because it is [Music] [Music] [Music] first I just measured that and that was a little bit too high so I just chopped a little piece off of that and that fits in there just nice no and then you put this on hey happy days alright so what I'm going to do now is knock up a little bit of resin then we're gonna just gonna put that in there gap and then that will hold that nice and tight I've got a bit to chop off of there so if you're wondering that's quite a big gap I am gonna take a piece off of there probably around about here shut that off nice and then we've still got a lot of sanding to do on this table so not really concentrate too much on the bottom because well you're never gonna see that and flip it over and hopefully hopefully we will finish this cuz it's taken me yes I started this back in I think October I think November October probably before that it's just taking so long to do it I don't know why I think I needed more resin and more pencils bit more resin a bit more pencils and they just went on like that really hopefully we get it done now [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] this is actually taking me longer than expected the [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] what oh we are finished finally up this thing took me months I started it last year back in Oh No October someone ah I've used taarna resin a ton of pencils I do like working with pencils it is pretty Funkadelic talking about Funkadelic and pencils I just wanted mention a really cool channel that I've been watching quite a lot and I'm pretty inspired by the positive couple check out this channel guys these guys are absolutely amazing and I just thought they do so much similar stuff there's this a lot better than mine but I just thought it was pretty cool and I just want to give you guys the heads up and if you don't follow them already why don't you check them out head on over and give them a little follow season many Senya I think below I don't know what I'm gonna call this one but I think it pretty much says where it is on the pin yeah it's a pencil River table but hopefully this one's a little bit different than any others that you may have seen is the river run smoothly the river flows the pencil all the way down and switches on to the bottom so it's kind of like a bit of a squidgy saw mess that I was kind of trying to create I guess I know I should have as I said earlier cut that bottom bit out and kind of made a bit of the splurge before I attached it to the leg that cost me about two days so yeah it did take me a while I made a few mistakes I'm had to kind of rethink the design but the initial design I had which was this it's not so bad it's not so bad not so bad very similar I think here I was gonna put some length on the back then I had some spare pencil leftover and I thought to myself not no I'm gonna make another splurge so deep to be fair I think is pretty cool as you know I don't normally buy my own trumpet but on this occasion oh well I didn't put an emblem on this one I may do probably should but I haven't done just yet I just really wanted to get this one finish for you guys cuz it has been I hate epoxy river tables/chopping boards/whatever but this is very impressive indeed. I love how you’ve shaped the feet. At first I was cursing for wasting epoxy but then I saw how it brought out the character of the pencils... well done and worth the 3 month wait!
