This Bethel Worship Song Should be Avoided by All Christians, Worship Leaders and Churches

all right y'all so recently i was at this conference and the worship was off the chain i mean the room was filled with people that were lifting their hands singing praises to god it was emotional it was authentic it was heartfelt it was literally everything that you would want a worship service to be and as a worshiper i was fully engaged in this worship experience that is until i heard this one song being sung during the worship service and it literally just messed up the entire worship service for me and to my surprise i looked around whenever i heard these lyrics being sung in this worship song and i looked around and i was shocked that i did not see more christians stopping in their tracks like wait hold up this song is unbiblical it's not theologically accurate but no i saw a room full of people lifting their hands and praising god and continuing in the worship as if nothing had ever changed now at this point you might be wondering brother allen what exactly is this song because whatever it is i don't want to be guilty of singing it well don't worry i'm going to tell you exactly what this song is in just a moment i'm gonna break down for you the exact lyrics of this song and the issues that i had with it but before i do that i want to lay down some ground rules or basically some principles about worship music now here's my basic premise and principle for this entire video i don't have five points i got one major point and that is the fact that worship songs are just as important as sermons why is it that we will not sit by and accept or listen to a sermon that is theologically inaccurate oh but we'll sing a worship song that has lyrics that are theologically incorrect why is that well i'ma tell you why it is because many of us as christians we get so caught up in the emotion we get so caught up in the moment we get so caught up by how this song makes us feel that we are willing to give this song a pass on its theological accuracy because this song makes me feel closer to god it makes me feel warm and fuzzies it makes me feel some kind of way and so as a result we bypass our theological grid our theological compass and we say you know what it doesn't really matter because at the end of the day this song makes me feel so close to god now the reason why this is so critical is because songs have power listen when we have a song that we like we play it over and over again why because that song evokes some sort of feeling or emotion in us and we want to experience that high over and over again so we play those songs again and again and they get into our spirit they get into our mind they get into our thinking and the more we uh essentially take in that message of that song we can ultimately start to believe the lyrics that are in those songs and live our lives accordingly all alright so what is the song that i'm talking about well you might have heard of it you might not have but let me start reading the lyrics and i want you to try to figure out where this song went off the tracks okay it starts off phenomenal great theology it says i've tried so hard to see it took me so long to believe it that you choose someone like me to carry your victory perfection could never earn it you give what we don't deserve and you take the broken things and raise them to glory you are my champion giants fall when you stand undefeated every battle you've won i am who you say i am you crown me with confidence i am seated in the heavenly place undefeated with the one who has conquered it all so far great theology i'm feeling it you know what jesus conquered everything we're seated in heavenly places that's biblical jesus is undefeated he's never lost i get it so all so far so good now i can finally see it you're teaching me how to receive it so let all the striving cease oh this is my victory okay and then it sings the chorus again and then once again i am who i say i am now this is where the problem starts right here right here all right it says this when i lift my voice and shout every wall comes crashing down whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa hold on a second hold on what are we talking about what are we talking about wait wait wait when i lift my voice and shout every wall comes crashing down what walls are we talking about right so now we have the power to shout or lift our voice and all of a sudden whenever we do that we have the power to make walls fall okay but then it gets worse it says i have the authority jesus has given me okay i'm good with that christians we do have a certain level of authority i got that okay i'm good with that now let's keep going when i open my mouth miracles start breaking out stop stop stop when i heard these lyrics being sung in this particular conference it says here when i open my mouth miracles start breaking out you see this is the problem with some of the music today it is promoting a man-centered gospel it is slowly trying to slide in there this little god's theology this word faith theology that says that you know what because god created the world in seven days and he created it using his words and if we are created in the image of god then therefore we also have the power to create things with our words we're also able to speak things into existence and so because god is able to open his mouth and he is able to perform miracles and therefore we have the same authority because jesus gave us the authority and therefore whenever i open my mouth miracles can happen when i heard these lyrics i stopped in my tracks and worship god was why chill still try to continue to worship but the experience was just messed up for me and i was shocked when i looked around and i saw that other christians were okay singing this song that is clearly theologically inaccurate see this song was great as long as it kept its focus on god a god-centered gospel god being undefeated god being our champion god being the one who conquered all god being the one who got the victory but as soon as it flipped and it put the focus on us it turned into a man-centered gospel a man-centered song and my friend this is the reason why you have to be so careful at the music that you listen to you cannot just go by how that song makes you feel you can't just go by the energy and how high the the the the song feels and and the the lyrics and or to me the uh the band and the energy of the song no no you have to exegete that song the lyrics of the of that song in the same way that you would do a sermon that is coming across a pulpit because at the end of the day these worship songs have just as much if not more power to influence our thinking as an actual sermon does so i want to encourage you from this day forward whenever you are choosing the type of worship music that you are listening to that you would discern whether that music is theologically accurate and you would not just go by your emotions and how that song makes you feel but you would let the bible interpret whether that is a song that not only should you sing but you should include in your rotation and god forbid if you are a worship leader listening to this video watching this video i pray that you would also take your role as a worship leader much more seriously because you have just as much influence over what that congregation of believers actually is believing or taking in as the pastor is every single week based on the songs that you choose to put in your worship set so i would love to hear from you what do you all think about this particular song by bethel
