hey guys matt here with juice joyrides and in today's video we're going to be doing a range test on the siron riding out to the hollywood sign which you can just barely see there off in the distance it's about 16 or 17 miles away so round trip it's going to be about a 40 mile ride included in that ride is going to be an elevation gain of about 2 000 feet as well so let me get home and top off the charge real quick and get on all my gear weigh everything and let you know how much i weigh with all my gear and then we'll get on the road and ride out to the hollywood sign and back and we'll see how much battery is left on the servon when we get back now my stock 60 volt battery is bypass and i do have the bac 4000 controller however we are going to be just going at cruising speed we're not going to be unlocking that full 7000 watts of power so i don't believe that the controller or the fact that the battery is bypassed is really going to have much of an effect on what kind of range we get riding out to the hollywood side one thing that will have an effect on the range is how much i weigh and also these aftermarket shinko 241 tires that weigh more than the stock tires another thing that will affect the range is i do have a 54 tooth sprocket on this bike which is not stock and here's the stuff i'm gonna bring i'm gonna bring the charger with just to avoid some range anxiety and a little bike lock i don't intend on letting the bike get out of sight but at least i can provide a little bit of security for the bike in the case i need to step away and use the bathroom real quick and i'm gonna wear my helmet as well with everything in this bag let's see how much i weigh with everything on so i do know they sell like a little cord you can get to plug one of these bikes in to like a tesla charging station but i wonder how much this thing weighs of course it's not going to come up on there pretty much 200 with me on it now let me pick up this and weigh it about 205 pounds so yeah five pound charger not as heavy as i thought it was i don't really want to carry five pounds on my back but i guess i will so i don't get stranded all right got my helmet on backpack on so let's weigh myself now and see how much i weigh just kidding 215.4 pounds so riding with a lot of extra weight right now this honestly kind of sucks i don't even know if i really want to do this ride with all this weight on me but what the heck let's do it and according to the map here starting from my location all the way to the hollywood sign it's going to take about two hours by bicycle which is this bicycle i don't know about that so 32 miles round trip will be uh you know with that elevation gain we'll be pushing it to probably its maximum range all right i'm going to start this uh strava right now it'll track the whole ride via gps so we know exactly how many miles and elevation gain we did and i am going to try to make the best of my range so i'm not going to be going like super fast i'll just be cruising right now i'm going 20. another thing to take note of i started at about 10 25 a.m so let's see how long it takes so a little tip for longer rides i found that i like to kind of just take my leg up like this and cross it and sit like this every now and then because if your seat's uncomfortable which i'm sure it is even this upgraded seat gets a little uncomfortable after a while it's nice just to kind of switch it up dude that guy just straight up driving that truck through the l.a river beautiful well great it tells me to take this exit and there is absolutely no on-ramp so we are let's see how far along we are here five miles in and the battery is at 90 percent 64.3 volts oh never mind i'm a dummy it's uh up here you just go up and around well looks like we'll be doing mostly street riding from here on out [Music] what a wonderful bike lane going a little bit faster than i would like to go for the sake of uh conserving battery going 28 and up here we will be merging on to interstate 10 and take the the highway i'm just kidding there it is off in the distance you can see a tiny sliver says hollywood we shall be over there and not too long can we make it back though is the question finally made it through the rougher parts of the city now kind of over here more where there's some pretty large homes so i just crossed the hollywood walk of fame and all that back there we'll stop by that on the way back so i can save a little battery to make sure we do the hill and get back the hollywood sign is right up there we are approaching okay so the road we're gonna take is beechwood drive and i'm gonna have to kind of uh figure out exactly where i'm going here because i don't know the best route to get there this is cool man like i've never even thought of like riding this far away from home before this bike is like so freeing like the range is so good but i have to tell you i have a surprise for you guys coming soon which i'll announce that up at the top of hollywood okay so this is where the real ascent begins i am on beechwood drive at the intersection of winan so there is a 1700 foot elevation gain on this ride and the majority of that is about to happen right here as we climb this mountain up to hollywood so right now the battery is at 67 i would think it's going to take a decent chunk out of that to climb up the rest away after the hollywood sign wow some of these houses over here pretty cool a little mini castle thing over here wow i've never been over here i don't think that's what i remember you know sound like nice and tranquil over here uh the the shade from the trees like it's kind of hot over here but it feels really nice in the shade i heard there's a way to get around here no park axle what the heck what the heck i heard there's a way to get around okay i think i just need to go back a little bit i made one little mistake this is the road here man this one is really steep [Music] man there's gravel i guess i'll take a peek although i wasn't really playing and doing gravel today is this dirt all the way up yep oh is there a roadside too yeah you're just like this oh okay all right thanks man look at those views wow downtown l.a off in the distance there griffith park observatory you can just barely see that little uh dome off in the distance i'm hoping this connects into a paved road i think there's a road called mount lee oh yeah check it out better better view of the griffith park observatory here dude what is going on here this does not seem like an actual route yeah hollywood oh yeah dude this bike is a trooper let's see where the battery is sixty percent [Music] so i lost like seven percent just going up this hill in like the past like mile or two [Music] i mean i'm liking riding around out here dead end no outlet no turnaround that means we're going right check it out okay this is what i think is the spot i was looking for before like here's the gate and then you gotta find the way around it which is i believe oh wait you know here it is this is exactly what i was looking for come on these stairs are like spaced perfectly still my front tire was hitting wow the back one was trying to climb part closed how do you open the door you press the panic bar and push it oh thank you i don't know if that would have opened for me but there's the hollywood sign and we're gonna make it for sure because it's 59 battery sweet views of downtown from here okay so to get to the hollywood sign it was 16.83 miles took me an hour of riding time um it's 11 47 and my battery on the bike is exactly 50 percent at 59.7 volts so counting the hill climb uh well i have plenty of battery to get home didn't need to bring the charger maybe i'll just stop and charge it somewhere and do some extra riding around here well i feel like if i would have just turned around at that point i would probably be cool but since i'm here might as well go all the way on up to the top and it's a thursday afternoon it's not very crowded and we'll just go ahead and really chill 10 mile an hour pace or so breeze feels nice beautiful views of everywhere and this is the back side of the hollywood uh sign uh this is the valley down here universal studios is actually right around the corner i was just there a couple days ago so i've actually done this hike exactly following this trail in the past walking it um it's not very fun walking it is quite a strenuous exercise but this is freaking awesome being able to just ride this bike right up here yeah there's the back side of the hollywood sign right there let's see the um reservoir the hollywood reservoir down there maybe we'll head down there in just a little bit so now i'm at 44 so yeah climbing this hill is really taking a dent out of the battery i don't even know if i want to mess with picking this thing up there oh yeah that's where the party is up here wow okay so to get to all the way to the very top above the hollywood sign it was 18.3 miles uh average speed is 14 miles an hour it took me an hour and 20 minutes of actual riding time and the remainder of the battery once i'm up here is 44 at 58.7 volts so to get home uh you know i'm going downhill a lot but i'll probably try and stop and recharge honestly so up here at the top of the hollywood sign this battery has served me well the 60 volt battery you guys know i've been looking at the 72 volt battery and yesterday i pulled the trigger on it i ordered it it was about twenty three hundred dollars and i said it will ship in about one to three weeks so go ahead and subscribe to the channel and there will be much more footage with that 72 volt battery coming here soon i plan on doing this exact same ride again so i can see how the 72 volt battery compares in range to this battery so it's like an 18 mile ride and i have 44 left so let's see what the 72 volt can do what a different experience it is coming out here on an electric bike compared to walking this entire thing my goodness like just the breeze is so much better no exercise i have to admit i really enjoyed cruising through the hollywood hills here just seeing all these houses nestled in the hollywood hills and i'm definitely using the regen break coming down this hill it's very steep all right so here's the deal we are at 22 miles and an hour and 36 minutes of ride time the battery is at 45 58.7 volts i just roll it up to the 76 gas station here and i'm going to attempt to refuel but not at the gas pump my question is what are the chances you guys think that that outlet right there is plugged in and has power and i can just juice this thing up a little bit descending from the top of the mountain down to this gas station was about a 2.7 mile ride i had the regen on the whole time down and it looks like the battery actually recovered about one percent over this descent as many of you know the regeneration on the saron is not very significant mostly it just helps you save on using the brake pads it is interesting to see that the bike actually did recover about one percent battery though plug it in right here first and pray we're gonna pray that this thing is plugged in and also sending the right voltage [Music] see if it kicks how on you cash out for something like that oh it's like 4 000. it's motor though or is it oh it's electric apparently this thing is not working nice attempt well there's been no luck with finding a charger but we're on hollywood boulevard so might as well cruise along the stars see what's up here whoa had the regen on mary j blige pitbull uh sure this thing's really slippery wow dude there's got to be an outlet somewhere around here the only thing is like with all the homelessness around here oh gosh it's the police i'm scared they sent me actually okay so my plan now is i'm just gonna head towards beverly hills and look for like a starbucks or coffee shop or something got some rental ferraris that looks kind of cool the chinese theater never seen it riding this bike around here's a total different experience welcome to beverly hills this is a beautiful path apparently this is the tourist spot beverly hills what's this up here rodeo drive rodeo yes rodeo drive rodeo drive this is the heart of it louis vuitton there you have it rodeo drive okay it says we got eight miles and it's pretty much all downhill from here so i think i won't have any trouble making it home well we're about two miles from home and i have 18 percent battery so it's pretty low battery's at 15 which is 51 volts [Music] and if you open it wide open it really doesn't even want to accelerate i've been on cruising at like 23. i still got power but definitely weak 13 battery i just want to give it like a a strong throttle and see what it feels like oh my goodness no power at all in this thing i feel like the battery even though it's bypassed i feel like it's somehow reducing the discharge rate or something or something's happening here yeah under full throttle it's like extremely weak from a stop or one mile an hour full throttle 20. yeah it feels uh very very sluggish all right so here is the final numbers on the stock bypass battery bms 4000 controller i did 37 well basically 38 miles average speed was 13 miles an hour and i was riding for about three hours made it back here with 14 remaining on the battery which was 54.1 volts taking a look at the route it was a pretty extensive route and elevation gain was 2 200 feet so that is a pretty good elevation gain really it was pretty much uphill all the way there and then downhill all the way back so if you're wondering about the range of the stock battery there you go if you did enjoy this video please give me a thumbs up questions or comments please leave down below and don't forget to subscribe because i do have that new 72 volt battery coming soon and i'm super pumped up so see ya in my next video
