probably know the best player in the world at that game in a competitive manner is M killer from Mexico but despite mkl being so successful a big portion of the casual player base or just people that may like smash 4 may know about smash don't really know about him or his story this is mainly because M Kaleo is primarily a very modest and a very quiet person in general now this core esports recently released this dog community that pretty much goes through m kilos entire career from when he started first coming to America - now he's dominance in smash ultimate I wanted to go through this documentary and add more information to where I feel like the document they could have expand it or maybe just tell you guys things that document is straight up did not cover but I do always encourage you guys to watch the source material if you want to watch the whole thing we never watch the entire thing on this channel and as always if you enjoy this type of content do be sure to subscribe and hit the bell so you guys don't miss out on any of those sweet healy uploads I hate to bring this up because it makes me come off extremely arrogant but it's just simply for the purpose of accurate or Italian for the majority of smash 4 I had the upper hand like 80 to 90% against M Kaleo most people tend to remember his biggest wins because it was always very notable for people to beat me in smash 4 because I was like the big guy to beat but the interesting part to me about the way M Khalil always handle his deface is that even when I will throw him or 6o him he will always have a new trick the next weekend this smash bros competitively at least a professional level was always played in a format where you have one big tournament one weekend the next one will be another one and so on and so forth kind of like oh not like a circuit really but kind of like just in a weakened format and Kaleo will always try something new one weekend he will try cloud and you will clearly try to like pull ups or strategies certain stages play assured that will not work out he will mix it up trying another character train another strategy he would always come with different strats and even though every time that I beat him I fell like all right I figure out leo I can beat him every time now he will constantly keep me on my toes which is what I personally think one of his biggest trends that not many people talk about everyone talks about he's calm well he's neutral but I think his ability to adapt as extremely notable I was a very notable win because he beat me at my own tournament to Yugi back in the day used to host tournaments in memory of a players so this tournament was in Vegas and they kind of hosted it in the name of zero so it was called the zero stagger right now what's notable is that at this point in time I have been in Leo maybe like four or five times in a row and I think this was the very first time that Leo beat me and then he went on to win the whole tournament I think this is really the moment where Leo really got put on the map like people need of him and people knew of him being a top 10 player for sure but people didn't really think of him as potentially being the best player or being a candidate for it but this tournament where he managed to kind of just break the 0 occurs and then win the big tournament beating all the notable players as well really put him on the radar for that position he 3 or 0 [Applause] [Music] so these two clips are actually way further apart the first clip is like from way back point I think it's like towards the middle of 2016 and then this one is towards the end of 2017 if I'm not mistaken but it's around the time I want to say maybe after Evo or maybe right before Eva it's like somewhere on the time it's probably towards the end of my competitive career I think it's around the time where Leo pretty much settled on using exclusively men and I against me he pretty much found out that I'm not that good against men and I and he was by far and away the best men I players so it made for a excellent counter pick but also the way he played and the way he played keep-away was very frustrated to deal with diddy kong he managed to make it in a way where I had to play out of my comfort zone and he managed to push that advantage after this tournament in the championship tears I pretty much retired so we never really got to play more of that metric so I'm not sure how I would have adapted but I mean that's a point in time Leo tried everything that dream how you try like Lucario some point [Music] Cody is an excellent commentary that that gave me chills down the spine that was just that was just excited narration through the commentary that is I mean I aspire for that unrelated one of the most notable things about Leo is that surely after I retired Leo pretty much just destroyed the entirety of smash for like no one could really stop him and even though tweek managed to kind of keep up with him Leo was just clearly the best player began in his hometown of Mexico City his brother ran locals and his cousins were among Mexico's top-ranked players so Leo took to the game earlier than most I was like this could be really cool they imagine like going to tremens the u.s. like being the best in Mexico most people think his name is MK Leo I mean his name is lil Naruto right MK is not exactly part of his tag and MK doesn't stand for men and I which is what most people thought it actually stands for Monster Kingdom which is actually the shop that his brother owns a lot of people have this impression that we started interacting when he started coming to America but I actually used to go to Mexican tournaments that was a big tournament that I want probably the biggest one which is called smash factor I want smash structure too I believe in Mexico and Leo at the time was like this little Tammy 11 year old kid was really really young and he played men and I am brought I remember play him I was like he's very good for his age 7 he becomes certifiably obsessed with the franchise secured his first tournament victory in brawl at the tender age of 8 that might be the record for the earliest to win a tournament I want my first one when I was 10 I thought that was pretty crazy but waiting at 8 is pretty intense I was playing me tonight is my fourth wow I guess I'm just really good and he made a real statement at smash factor for where to everyone's surprise Leo toppled the runner-up at that Year's Eve oh they got so hype dude actually loved this moment so this is super relevant because mister are lost this right after getting second place at Eva losing to me so at the time people thought I miss Tara is like a top three top five plane in the world which meant that Leo win in the tournament over him was essentially him being one of the best players in the world in turn the craziest part after this that leo actually called me out on the interview he said zero I'm coming for you and he was like a little kid in my head I was like ah if you're the best player something the last thing you want to see is the kid full of dreams and passion pulled my roots on call you out like that cuz in my head I'm like oh my god dude and I was like okay like second place evil almost beating zero being narrow that means that I can do the same thing in 2016 he got the chance after a community vote earned him a last-minute entrance to get on my level this is actually a really high moment in smash 4 because it was surely after I injured my thumb's I couldn't play for three months and I was like in Chile and the reason Leo couldn't come to America even though like Mexico's like right next to the US was because getting a visa to compete in America or even just be there was really difficult and Leo got his visa denial like five or six times to the point that if you get that night you have to wait a certain amount of time so he kept trying to come for years but he was pretty much limited and the reason he had to go to Canada was because he couldn't come Tamara so he's only opportunity to fly the top American tell him was to go to Canada and that was also surely around the time where I got my be set to be able to compete and travel again and then I said well let's go back to you know a tournament so let's go to Gumbel you know that seems like to be like the big tournament and then we just happened to meet at that tournament it was actually really really cool if you think about it like that after making his way into the top 8 layout earned himself a respectable fifth place finish after falling short to his eventual rival and the single greatest smash for player in the world zero oh my god yeah once again five it went the game file and it will actually such a nail-biter it was so close dude out so sweet I already tried midnight the first game it did not work and he ended up going cloud and I wasn't very experienced I guess I guess cloud but he had a playstyle of cloud that was really strange and just really threw me off he just played completely different everyone else even though I managed to be him this time I knew he was going to be a problem I wasn't almost be Syrian like almost being serious like it is huge for a mean player that like goes to the first tournament that's the thing that's why I Loki was kind of scared cuz I was like he got way too close he might be able to have a chance to do it next time his first tournament in the stage was Kate r19 where despite making it all the way to the top three Leo found that he was once again unable to triumph over 0 oh this was so hyped because the person who managed to convince Layla to come to America was Qatar and Qatar was host of this tournament because I was roommates with Qatar that meant I you know live with Qatar Oh obviously and because I was roommates with Katara this meant that Leo got to stay here so we actually played friendlies for a couple days and the cloud was not doing good for him whatsoever but then he found out a Marth was doing good for him so he ended up tried the Marth against me and this is the very first time we managed to play the Mars add a team at show and even though I came out on top once again it was very close I'll of how nobody in the crowd it was exciting everybody wanted me to lose nobody at the crowd was like all this ghosts here oh no nobody oh my god Leo enter to GG t 0 saga a tournament named after his nemesis and became one of a handful of players in the world to ever get the better of it Leo's confidence that tournament was on real I think that was the big thing that changed it wasn't really specifically anything in game that he did it was more so about him decisively going for certain plays more often or decisively you know doing certain things with just more confidence sometimes you can be good enough to beat certain people but maybe your confidence may hold you back from that day on I began to solidify himself oh dude the original 0 quick played a 16 year old smash players beat him the biggest pros on the scene that's actually the original prodigy the clean hit light right there he got signed by echo fox and stood as the youngest player to ever win a major smash4 tournament was dubbed the so-called prince of smash 4 and as far as the community was concerned the successor to zeroes throw I've always liked the fact that despite all he's accomplished he's always remained very very humble that genisys win was huge not only is Genesis one of the largest tournaments you can possibly win other than Evo but Ally was pretty much in the top three and he was like my 1 demon that I couldn't really beat in smash 4 for a long time it took me like maybe like a year to really get the hang of beating him consistently so at this point in time I was very critical I was like okay if I don't really figure out a lie and I don't really figure out Leo to at least be him every time they're gonna overtake me so this is like a really difficult period where in my head I was like I I really need to put myself on the best training situation to be able to figure these people out because they're coming at me hard the king had yet to relinquish his domain frame-perfect is when I really had to roar back I learned I studied m'kay little videos for two to three weeks at a time just back and forth going seconds just analyzed it taking notes I remind my coach at the time we had like a massive document until it was like this 20 or 30 page thing of just all of his habits like I was actually at some point I'm I memorized the way he played I will be able to tell you like Leo's gonna go for a sure up for deer stand for a split second row behind you and then he's either gonna go for this or dad the paint on your percentage or maybe he's gonna go for this is that if he feels he's confident is in Homestead for a forced match like I was able to kind of just completely understand how he played as a person I memorizes let's have it I memorized the way he played with confidence I memorized when he will shield when he will grab and I pretty much abused all of it and this was one of the most decisive times I managed to be him and I want to say it was like the rest of this season after frame-perfect leo really had a big problem beating me because I six of them twice and I threw him a couple times as well like I really figure him out imagine me going into like the time capsule and Dragon Ball I'm just training MK Leo match up in my brain for like a month and a half straight of just non-stop fighting Mars non-stop fighting cloud non-stop fighting and all the characters he means and just tell everyone to play like Leo was a very extensive process that really paid off but that's literally the amount of effort that it took me just to be able to be him for a couple of sets apartment from Genesis 4 on Leo didn't take a single set off of 0 his rival eliminated him 5 times 3 in grand finals this front of it was a turning point for Leo though because he pretty much realized on the nice characters were working men and I cloud and Mars were not working so he had to try anything he tried low-carb because he saw me lose to like a low card players they figure maybe that will work it wasn't working either and as the when Leo really was like I I need to you know go on the training bootcamp and try to beat zero so for I think he mentioned it somewhere before like a one to two month period all he did was practice mennonite just to try to beat me and then you know he ended up taking the last two sets before I retired pretty much I have a great feeling that if I manage to stay competing despite everything that happened in my personal life I feel like we probably would have gone back and forth so like two weeks before the tournament I use like I started playing against Diddy Kong players with mennonite like for like three hours per day oh I used to start like practicing the match up see what I could I do so I just like practice I love that for that said come October and it worked out but the cool part about this tournament does that even though he beat me I remember that Leo was struggling his elegant and the grand finals and I think one of the cutest things about is that Leo chose me as his coach her asked me to help him and I managed to give him some key advice to be telegin during that said and I was really happy that he managed to want to turn him as a result despite us competing you know for the same goal I never really saw him in the same eyes as a rival or anything like that and you know and in a lot of ways for me personally I've always just been proud of him really the 2gg championship in December when Leo exercise I think that's one of my favorite tournaments even though I did not win this tournament and I got second place the championship was for me my last competitive tournament this is the last tournament that I practiced that I had my mind and competitor plate that I really was willing to go through this whole process for me this is the biggest set of smash for in general because I feel like it was me at my peak skill level and Leo at the peak of him trying to become the best player in the world like him you know with all his dreams riding on on his passion right and for us to meet and grand finals for me is the most epic set for sure and also the fact that he had the most money it has the most hype it was like the whole year build up the circuit leading up to the grand finals like you couldn't have asked for a better grab files in my opinion I did was like one of the most important moments in my career I mean I was really the only person that BC at the end there was like really foreign to me it was almost like you know like I'm the captain of the ship and I kind of just gave my hat the captain's hat to MK Leo and I was like you you take control of the ship you you will take it to great places it felt like that for me in a lot of ways zero announced his retirement in January 2018 he went out on top but had he stuck around any longer Leo would have stolen his crown from that point on there was nothing stopping layout from becoming the smash God he was destined to be there's no price of nobody leo want goes on to win every tournament in 2018 pretty much becomes the best player it's fast for you know after I retired Leo was obsessed with ultimate he saw it as an opportunity to dominate like never book it was my dream to become the best Nintendo inviting me to the ether Invitational in my opinion the best match game so far so I was really high for that and I knew it was my moment the moment he started playing he was godlike and I knew he was gonna become even better the crazy part about this genesis when is that Leo was going to lose to void and he was going to lose in losers as well because he was struggling this tournament big thing about leo is that in ultimate he's just always remained very close and smashed for he was just a very solid opponent that was just Wayne but an ultimate he really started becoming clutch King he started winning tournaments for losers he started coming back three to two he started just making impossible win to be possible and I think that's really what made him be the best place that also shows his character he didn't even pop off he was very mindful went on you know shook boy's hand and he didn't even like have an overly celebration I would have popped off really Harpo leo is I want to say more humble than I am while Leo's transition from smash Florida ultimate was certainly seamless it wasn't uncontested come frostbite in February 2000 nineteen one player showed he could put up a fight against lay out at the end of smash board the only people fighting for the title the best in the world were tweak and lay off so one of tweaks biggest motivations was to be able to finally be the best player in the world and for a season he pretty much was the best play he managed to out Trump leo quite a beta again leo doors where he does best he adapts and evolves as the player and changes it up and I think that's what really makes him so successful and will for whatever reason Leo was struggling it wasn't clear what the problem was or what he could do to fix it but whether it was fate or coincidence an opportunity came along for Leo to shake things up to reinvent himself in game and adopt a new well persona alright that's the funny way to put it when Joker came out I thought Joker was a top tier character and a lot of pro players thought I was insane dude a character with a combat mechanic gotta be good I didn't think Leo will play joke if he plays Lucene on men and I Klout all these guys have a sword in any capacity bars as well Joker doesn't have a sword so my head I was like that's not anywhere near Leo's rage but leo really really by for Joker he just loved being able to improvise combos with Joker and they just allowed Leo to be as aggressive as he could offstage because one big weakness that Ike had which was Leo's best character in ultimate was that I could not go off the level and Ike was sluggish he could have moved an intimidate opponents the same way Joker could in a lot of ways I feel like I was holding back Leo he was playing a mid tier after all to win all of these big tournaments which is a nastain accomplishment to his skill level but not he had a better character I feel like it really released the shackles and while there's arguments for joke and not even being the best guy in the game Joker is still a pretty good kid and it really showcases how good Leo is takes those like real easy yeah okay you're right when I used to play I everyone used to say that I was like one of the best game and now I like meteor so he might be just me I think that's a humble way to put it I think it's a hundred percent of him there was no other person that could make me struggle with any of the characters that he did he was able to make a mid tier where tournaments and then a DLC character that most professional players didn't even really been an eye on he saw this success in and he saw that the cake it was good he was the pioneer then there's skill in that that evil run was insane because up to this point in time leo hadn't been able to win the big american evil he was able to Whitney with Japan but a lot of people considered the American evil to be like the evil and while players like myself and Ally and other players have been able to win an evil despite Leo's excellence the one tournament he was not able to win was Evo and even though he was the losers losing to camera may do it to match speed experience against Megaman he still managed to bring it all the way back to the grand finals beat and pretty much everybody you could think of that was good at ultimate at that point in time in my mind this is the most defining and the most important set of all time and ultimate I don't think any other sin is gonna top this because of the way Leo came back from losers because of the way the set was I mean tweak was dominating the entire said it looked like tweak was gonna three olio because tweak is so much momentum that leo managed to bring it back at the Brinks of defeat at the very end with all the pressure in the world with the fact that he's never won an Evo and you can imagine when someone is very close to accomplishing something they can melt under the pressure I think I would have melted under the pressure if I never want an evil and I'm in that scenario I don't think I would have been able to make come back the difference between me and Leo is that leaders more clutch and leo managed to clutch it out turn it around and then win six games in a row to win evo and he every day one of the most memorable three-star comics but it looked like tweek had it all figure out and he did it by making one of the boldest plays I ever seen in competitive play which is he intimidated charger who has one of the fastest outer shield options of the whole game which is up smash out of shield to roll away instead of punish leo watch this he walks forward forces to roll at those short hop 40 which only covers roll backwards if tweak did anything like run back grab dash attack even side B even up smash if even whiffed and UPS man she was fine if tweak did anything there he was not dead but to call out such a specific option like that and then win the tournament dude I cannot I I jumped out of my chair I was like yo I don't think it could be a better player to be the best in ultimate he has an amazing place though to watch he plays the grass if he plays interest in plays different characters he plays risky he has heart he's humble but better than all you know he's a Latino just like me and it makes me really happy to see someone else that comes from you know humble beginnings like I did be able to succeed so well in an environment that is still cutthroat and competitive no it is me and Leo don't really compete anymore but I mean we still make contact together that we still talk pretty often and he's always out to play with me whenever we want to make a video or something so I think it's really cool the way things ended up I may not be MP Leo's number one Bravo anymore but I'm certainly am Coolio's number one fan now and maybe a friend I should say nonetheless I'm proud of him and I hope that with this video I was able to show you guys maybe a more human side of what the best player in ultimate is tell you more of a story tell you more of a character that you know may you may not talk about very often was necessarily a story to be told for sure thank you so much guys for watching as always much love and I'll see you guys around tomorrow's uplook bye-bye [Music]
