The Reality of Tree Service Work

[Music] foreign did you enjoy it i did it felt really close to me what's up youtube crew i think today is time to make a video about day in the life of a tree guy type of video occasionally do one of those i think seems like i've done that i've seen reg coats do it seen other people do it lawrence schultz did a good one like that it's kind of on me a little today because this channel is it's it's supposed to be about inspiration supposed to inspire and uh but it's supposed to be really real uh not real in a drama whiny way but just real like talk about real stuff and then there's some benefit to that it's like it's not bs so day in the life today is feeling like i need to go to work right that's an understatement but extra feeling it because the whole side of my face is swollen from some kind of messed up reaction to uh dental work i don't know what it is and i don't know what's gonna happen but i just kind of set this stage like stay up all night in pain right and then uh this morning i get up and i'm like i think it's about time to look at the so i have a business credit card it's real handy i don't really love credit cards that much but this is really handy because you just give it to the crew and you know it's in damien's name and and um he just handles whatever the company needs but what it does for me i usually pay it off every month but i've i've been slipping not because there was no money but just because it was automatic you know it was kind of taking care of itself well it took care of itself all the way up to uh over 10 grand that's never like that's a credit card payment 10 grand so i woke up and i was like wanting to go to work and distract myself from my whatever kind of jaw pain is going on it's like face to music day you know i'm like well what's some ugly music to face so i go and i i look at the credit card bill i'm like 10 000 is pretty ugly do you want to pay just some of it or all of it i'm like well if i just pay some of it i won't have to worry about going overdrawn but i set a precedent of i'm a guy who pays some of it i don't like that so i paid all of it which gave me the extra kick in the butt incentive to get out there and climb that's day in the life uh what do you call it kind of real stuff not complaining i feel great i really do i feel super good there's some things that'll make you feel you know winter time cold dark miserable working conditions i've done it my whole life some of the most unreal extreme working conditions imaginable literally on record coldest weather and stuff like that up in alaska and uh but there's something kind of ebb and flow with with how jacked you are to go to work well i think i'm feeling pretty awesome about it today despite the the kind of arrows that are trying to hit me but worse you know when it's cold and dark and and kind of miserable conditions right this ain't bad shoot it ain't even raining right now absolutely give you some joy when you compare it to something else but there's things that'll make a hard job carry a lot bigger punch hard labor you know blue collar life is its own struggle and then you add you know little details like i gave you about this morning but that's nothing you know what the biggest hardship i've faced going to work is is trouble at home trouble in paradise and that man my heart goes out to anybody going through that it just takes your your energy i'm talking like you know life dog house you dog house wife bad feelings things i don't know you you fill it in another one would be like sickness of children that kind of stuff boy that's where it really is something to to just go and pound out your your duty you know and for your small pay that's that's rough so that's why i feel super good today because i feel like i could die today or tomorrow and will have been blessed way beyond what i deserve or or what i could hope for in this crazy mixed up world that's why i feel great i hope if you're watching you feel great and if you have struggles if you have trouble in paradise or you have sick kids or dark news they just break today into small pieces there's been times in my life where i broke broke the pieces so small that it was one breath one breath at a time if you watch my mate for this poem type in made for this on my type my name i don't know how you find it on youtube it's out there but it's a poem about this work life that i wrote years ago that kind of gave birth to the whole monkey bieber and and the business uh the web store and stuff it was kind of a cultural thing it resonated with people in that poem i say broken homes and broken bones can be good teachers too and i've i've lived them i've lived the broken bones and the broken homes and i know it's not like that today a little bit of jaw pain but nothing like the giant hole blasted through your chest that happens with broken homes so i'm feeling super grateful i must be half philosophical to be talking on like this oh i'll rig this myself all you'll have to do is worry about the piece or the the limb i mean are you ever working with a saw near a buddy and there's two or three of you running say bucking up a log nearby each other and they just get in harmony the sound it like clicks in and out of harmony and you know it when it's like it just like gets in the perfect pitch i'm not a music genius by any means at all but i can tell when the saws are in harmony with each other just like that at home right now i'm really thankful i'm in harmony with my wife i don't know if she'd understand that i've tried to give her compliments that didn't really go over because they didn't she didn't understand them really like uh when i told her you just like the axe 19 chipper baby oh my goodness you're comparing me to a chipper what does that even mean i said you're both too good for me i think i can manhandle a couple of these um [Applause] wow [Applause] [Applause] oh i don't have enough clearance yet to uh speed line in case you're wondering not even sure i will speedline today i'm gonna sell uh self rig another here [Applause] oh wow [Applause] [Music] bull's eyes all day long next to the doghouse there why don't we just move the doghouse oh well sniper you don't gotta move it it helps dial me in nice uh transparent plastic roof under it i think what we'll do is damien will go from where he's at over into this tree you won't have to spur it at all because he's gonna be coming down and even if he wasn't we wouldn't spur it because we're leaving it behind but we're he'll strip out this dead stuff which will make a path for us to rig wood down there and maybe a speed line path for some brush see him over there can work on that tree probably rig a top off of this tree and we have the serious line here uh choked to that tree so that when we're done we can untie that as you were saying before your battery died if the anchor that tree bows out kind of this way which is cool for us to use as a rigging point because it'll shoot it'll allow us to shoot logs right over the deck and out into the abyss but we don't want to like pull on it with all this force straight down because it's leaning that leaning tree anchored back this way will mean less do you even see it youtube do you see it just look at it see him over there i mean it starts out over here so it's leaning a lot so if we start pulling down on that side that's kind of wonky right so we're cleaning off the dead limbs making a path for the speed line make a path for the rigging line for the wood and we're anchoring the tree back there that way it's stronger for the rigging because you wouldn't want to like put the lowering device on this side because then you got the lowering device and the weight of the rigged piece on the same side and that would put the big fish on king of the pond and not on that tree we don't really want that we will have some fish on but we'll have it anchored back that way does this make sense no well just do what you're told he's kidding just wait till the white comes out dude you threw it right at me so i went up and to the top here while damien was clearing the way for the rope and i can see that maybe some old lightning damage or something but so i just i took my rigging line with me and i just set it up here for a speed line and so we'll go down and do a little bit of speed lining and then we'll probably pop this top right in here is a good enough spot i think might as well look around take a look at the view yep that's the woods all right clean that rigging spar up we've got rings set in that tree i'll be rigging things off of history back over here and we'll bomb them down to that hole you see the triangle there we've got a bomb on all of it right down there which shouldn't be any issue august is set in slings yeah it'll look a little exciting is what august says but if it didn't look exciting then what fun would this be okay give me that weave that thing over to you yeah before [Laughter] i think that's a good view we'll try a couple like that we'll have better clearance if you yard on it as it comes off it's just like tip tapped wow yes it's kind of handy having them go from here to the chipper well what do you guys think that seems like it's the only way to do it from that tree right to the chimney him oh [Applause] picking up another [Music] around everything so i'm out of swings i got that on video too [Music] that's a thriller they're all throwers um it's like it just saves it'll save time you know comes the rain [Music] [Music] um [Music] ah yep um uh okay [Music] [Applause] [Music] here comes another one small one wow [Music] like [Applause] [Music] okay we got two and then the top so these are literally going down into the driveway right in front of the chipper and this stuff's all steeper than than it looks on camera it's a pain to go up and down there got him adam's down there getting the branches and throwing them to the other side of that fence and then he's grabbing bundles and hiking down the hill so you're gonna run you're you're gonna be on the the traditional like lowering rope okay you're just gonna let it run okay but you're there to guard the height because the zip line is going to be controlling the route so you'll take a little pressure off of him but there's probably going to be no reason to stop it unless you know to avoid a skylight or something or railing but it'd be like the easiest lowering job you ever had that is far here we go it slips oh dude i'm sorry it was over my arm but i saw it it kind of didn't ever hit anything i could grab it's all right i'm listening to your excuses it's true because i don't know why i miss here let me pull this off again it's no big deal i'm making you look like a lousy drawer maybe your camera going somewhere oh perfect hopefully it'll see the truth [Laughter] that's pretty funny maybe you can put that in slow motion whenever it happens yeah like my hand goes everywhere it isn't all right first time throwing it to august i'll throw it good we'll just see how the catches i'm assuming it'll be perfect oh perfect that was i know that was probably the worst throw out on all three no no no there were no other throws there were like only like 99. speed line's on you ready i'm ready yeah yeah you probably don't need any wraps okay [Music] there i don't think we need to it's too high for that run it aways your whole goal is is to have it high enough that even if it swings back it doesn't hit anything so you do what you want but it's on you totally when it comes off so he likes the idea of that yeah better feel it out for the first one i kind of want to run it a bit because i don't want to crash the tree we probably want to keep this one higher in the house [Music] [Music] oh my dabs for section is kind of off looking down and i'm like that to me looks about railing height or so he went all the way with it you don't have to adam one thing you waiting on me but this is a whole this is a whole different thing come on he's not a dime come on [Music] okay adam you ready [Music] wow ready ready uh when i barked that tree i i had the piece going too much toward that tree and i had it too much belly tied yeah yeah we bumped it [Music] now about right here okay like flat cut flat as you can get it okay coming out jeff [Music] run jeff run [Applause] good i take the blame for that bump right there because of the way i cut it i don't like that sort of thing it really irks me if we were rigging it off of itself and then transferring it over would be a little less wild than what we're doing but that's me a little wild i guess [Music] run jeff run stay over there what we're doing youtube is we got a luring man here this is adam rope's going up through a um rigging ring up there it's not going over a limb we're not we're not abusing the tree up there we have the tagline on so that he takes it around a tree and as soon as it comes off he goes that way so that it can't come back and slam this tree and then it's my job to make sure not to slam it on the initial run can i just these quarter pitch bar and chains even when they're new it's easier to uh run run out of your cut out of your curve like sort of like a thinner bar like a jigsaw jigsaw you can cut around corners this thinner bar makes it not track as well on one plane but it sure does cut quick [Music] these last ones close to the roof getting close to the fence so we need extra pretension one two three one two three one two three i'm gonna slide it up a little bit one two three that's right here we go ah it dip you're gonna love it all these things are right here these calibrations we're probably gonna try to finish why try to finish today i think we're going to try to okay and that's fine with me too i'm just thinking uh we got some stuff to do dark is about 4 45 i mean i i don't know i don't either we could come back tomorrow or do you want do you want a chick yeah oh well we might get it but i wouldn't worry about if you got to go then uh we'll catch up with you okay i mean i'm not worried about you being here and i'm not okay okay no problem don't want to forget about this damien is insisting i record an outro for the video there he is that's him down there on the track machine yeah he wanted me to tell you that he's a stud and that um the rest of us are all second best is that even possible how does everybody be second best oh let's see i'm half native american half irish half english maybe you guys could could bring a piece of plywood from somewhere up here hey that reminds me we have to take pictures today of proper chin strapping i'm riding [Laughter] don't make me i'm writing a uh article for the isa and um they're like we love the article but you guys need to like use your chin straps and put on eyeglasses and stuff okay and um i was like dang i'll have to take all new pictures and so we'll do that today let's do it it actually sounds kind of fun i'm not sure if mine fits what are we like those skateboard kids that just let us you are not cool oh is that what it is like when you show up to the skate park think about it if you show up to a skate park with your helmet buckled you're like does tony hawk buckle it tony hawk's cool enough to do it i think dude that sounds so silly but he's but we know why why i don't do it most of the time i think it's not like i i'm thinking i won't wear this buckle it's because because these they're always holding it on they hold it on and i feel like it's held on yeah like if you decide you're gonna throw your throw line up in the tree if you wear your helmet you make sure that these are clicked to your head yeah otherwise a lot of times i put this down even that helps but but yeah and then it could kind of go both ways though you know like it you know if you took a hard hit it would be it would be pretty good to have your buckles on but if something caught on it and yard it on your helmet and just guarded your helmet down and you were strapped and there's like a little pine branch that went ink and then just yarded it down that could be almost worse that sounds like the people who say i don't wear a seatbelt because when my vehicle goes off the road into the lake and catches on fire down there oh he's trapped in the fiery drowning you
