The power of the 338 Lapua Magnum

[Music] what's up guys welcome to EMS ballistics today we're gonna be talking about one of my favorite rounds of all time and it's a round that's really still not super well known for whatever reason the 338 Lapua Magnum we're gonna see how that sucker performs today I said today we're talking about the 338 Lapua now if you're a gun nut you've probably heard of the 338 Lapua Magnum and if you haven't that's okay too because we're gonna show you just exactly how powerful this round is the 338 Lapua was designed for our military in the late 1980s I think it was approved CIP approved in 1989 and it is just one of the hardest-hitting cartridges available it was a sniper cartridge developed in the late 1980s but we used it primarily in Afghanistan and Iraq the amazing thing about this round is that a key penetrate better than standard body armor and military armor at over a thousand yards away it has an effective range of 1750 meters two thousand yards away so what we're gonna do is just a simple test actually to orginated to can't do just one but a simple test against another military cartridge which is a 5.56 nato or a CNN refers to it as air 15 military weapon of death made by the devil so we're gonna stand about 50 yards back have it give a good effective range for both allow them to leave the muzzle and pick up a little bit of velocity so we're gonna do 50 yards and we're gonna shoot a water jug with both the 5 5 6 and the 338 Lapua Magnum and we're going to get kind of close up on it so you could see the energy transfer difference of a ar-15 versus a 338 Lapua Magnum and just how much energy explodes from these rounds okay this is my 338 Lapua Magnum it is a savage 112 target 338 Lapua Magnum and I topped it with a knight force Pinterest it's a 12 to 44 by 56 so it's a hell of a hell of a scope this is my ar-15 - nmp sport - five five six we're going to be shooting green tips and we'll shoot that first we should the flat five six burst and see see what it does to a one gallon water jug after tea that okay so here's our ar-15 hit we have a little tiny entrance hole right here looks like a drop of water and then a nice exit coming out the back side see what a 338 Lapua can do to the same same exact thing okay and just for comparison's sake this is the five five six green tip light armor penetrating round that was shot out of the ar-15 this is the 338 Lapua Magnum a little bit bigger a little bit bigger serious thing that the Beast that's all we got left so I mean if you couldn't tell from the energy transfer that that 338 Lapua is just strictly business now we're going to trust shooting a block of natural clay and see what it'll do to that screen tip if we can make a mess of that play Wow that was really cool here is our entrance hole from the five five six holy moly such a it's it's so smooth that is really cool that's a lot of energy transfer right there very nice let's see what that 338 Lapua 'he's got alright that five five six put a damn hurting on that clay a lot more than i thought it was gonna do that that was pretty cool so let's see what this thing can do to a clay block holy crap okay let's check out the entrance and exit wounds on the clay from the 338 Lapua Magnum here we have our our entrance hole right here and here's our exit hole right there as well it's gone oh it's completely gone it just evaporated that is crazy alright guys I gotta get this stuff back in the house because it's so hot out here it's gonna drive us all this clay out but I want to thank you guys every single one of you for subscribing to the channel recently because it helps us out a lot and we're almost at that 1000 mark and you know to a lot of bigger channels 1000 subscribers is probably not a lot but to me it means the world because you guys make all of this happen you know I'm saying so if you can if you haven't subscribed yet go ahead and click that button and then hang out with us next week we're gonna be doing a ammunition review for a company called atomic ammunition so come back next week and check that video out we will see you next time [Music] [Music]
