in such a very real way almost like you can touch him in the physical that's what it feels like almost like you could literally touch him the power of god is here in such a very real and rich way it's an honor to be here with you this morning thank you for coming to church those of you that are the front you can begin to make your way back to your seats excited about what i believe the lord has laid on my heart for this morning i will echo pastor tonight is going to be a fantastic night worship on the river five o'clock you won't want to miss that also sister mary it's good to see you in the house praying for complete healing for you brother alton lucas you've been out two or three months yourself you're here glad you're here god gonna do a complete work in your life see some old friends i see dennis canary here dennis it's good to see you glad you're home buddy rick colbert you're not a guest here anymore you've moved back home and we are so very glad to have you here amen [Applause] if you have your bibles let's turn to ephesians chapter 6 and verse 10 ephesians chapter 6 and verse 10. [Music] give you a few more moments to turn there and if you don't have your bible it will be on the screen for you you may have an app on your phone if you want to turn to ephesians chapter 6 verse 10 there you can do that finally my brethren be strong in the lord and in the power of his might i can preach that scripture a lot of different ways i could preach it in such a way where i could preach everything that god has done and his mighty hand and his mighty power and people would be bouncing off the walls this morning and our guests would maybe would be enamored by that to all of our guests we're so very glad to have you here but i'm going to preach it maybe a little bit differently this morning maybe won't be bouncing off the walls but hopefully when i get done i just want to minister to somebody this morning and hopefully everything you've been carrying and everything i've been carrying we will get to the end of this sermon and realize that i don't have to carry so much anymore i can just turn it over to his power and his might and let god have his way you can be seated this morning the power of his might the power of his might i won't be long this morning so just bear with me for just a few minutes we are living in some kind of day folks we've got a lot of things pulling at us weighing on us things that we are facing things that we are going through things that take their toll on us physically emotionally spiritually we have uh crises that we are facing maybe in our finances maybe in our hall maybe in our physical bodies we are facing so many different things in this day and age that we are living in there's so many things pulling and each and every one of us nobody here is exempt from something pulling on you weighing you down that's the kind of day that we are living in and also with those things the the physical battles that we have to battle the financial battles that we have to go through those are difficult in and of their self to deal with but if you are wholeheartedly sold out to the kingdom of god then you're going to love people hey jesus what's the greatest commandment well first of all you need to love the lord your god with all your heart soul mind strength everything that is within you okay is that all no you need to love your neighbor as yourself you need to love god and love people and the rest of the commandments they all hang on those too love god love people we are called to love people we're called to reach for people we're called to disciple people we're called to love our family to provide for our family to provide for people and so let's be real here this morning can we do that i'll be honest with you so don't sit there and look at me dishonestly people are draining [Applause] but yet i'm called to love everybody i'm called to be there for everybody and that can be so draining let's be honest luke 8 and 46 paints the picture very well a woman with the issue of blood reaches out to touch jesus she needs something from jesus and how does jesus know that he has been touched virtue left him virtue went out i'm assuming that took place every time jesus performed a miracle or every time jesus preached a powerful sermon i assume that virtue left the reason i assume that is because if you've ever preached for somebody or if you've ever haven't or if you've ever had to give to somebody if you've ever had to be there for somebody virtue leaves it departs from us and it can be so very difficult people are reaching for us now more than ever people need us now more than ever this world needs us now more than ever our family needs us now more than ever and every time that they need us and pull from us and need something from us and we give and we give and we give virtue goes out of us and we're living in a world now where we can't escape the fact that people need us just look at it look at the news cycle every day that's keeping us in touch and keeping us connected 24 hour news every day that keeps you connected to the world you can tune in to any channel you want to whether it's cnn fox news msnbc nbc whatever it may be however you want your truth to come to you the way that they want to twist it however you want the truth to come into your life and you want to stay connected to the world it's there for you each and every day keeping us connected to the world cell phones i hear all the time of people say don't i wish i could just go back to the days where people couldn't get in touch with me because people are draining i remember cell phones my goodness you had a cell phone at the house one time years ago i think it was a cell phone i don't know what they called it back then but it was in a bag the satin bag was about this wide huge antenna it's like you were connecting to a satellite i remember when my mom got a red explorer ken brady ford got us a red explorer that we still have by the way and in that red explorer there was a phone that was mounted in the base of it i thought that was so unique that cool little phone how people can reach us in the car how fantastic i even remember the days when if i really needed dad or the church needed pastor they had to beep him my have we progressed i remember my first cell phone it was a nokia flip phone that uh my parents wanted me to have because i was driving and they wanted to be able to get in touch with me wherever and whenever i was they were able to get in touch with me i love that little phone because there was a game called snake on there and snake on the original phones was way better than it is on our phones now because for some reason when you use the keypads it responded quicker it did what i wanted to do now it's got this touch screen and it goes all over the place so snake is no longer fun anymore and here we are at the iphones now and our smartphones that we have in the iphone and two three four five seven plus eight plus x ten abcdefg and on and on and on it goes we're progressing we are reachable we are connected there are seven and a half billion people in in the world 4.68 billion of those people have a cell phone that's roughly 63 so if all of those people had your number they could reach you we're connected not only do our smartphones allow us to stay connected to everybody through texting or or through phone calls but we have all these apps now we have this wonderful app called facebook that everybody seems to love i don't even log on i let my wife run my facebook so if i haven't messaged you back on facebook blame her 1.56 billion people log onto facebook every single day there are 300 million photo uploads a day every 60 seconds every minute there's 510 000 comments that are posted there's 293 000 statuses that are updated there's 136 000 photos that are uploaded 2.1 billion people every single day on average use one of the facebook family of services we are more connected than we have ever been and we are wanting to please people now more than we ever have we take photos through filters we tell people where we're going what we're doing we log on as soon as we got out of church to find out what everybody else is doing and how everybody else's day is going and we're drained wanting to please everybody we want to please people that we don't know the people that don't need us we're trying to please them the people that really do need us we're trying to please them we have our ministry that needs us and we're trying to give it our best shot there until we finally all of us reach a point where we say i'm give out. so much virtue has left me i'm trying to please people i don't even know i'm trying to look good for people i don't even know and i've got my family that's begging me for help wanting me to be a better mom or a better dad or a better husband or a better father i'm doing the very best i can i'm trying to be a better employee i'm trying to be a better sunday school teacher but i just don't have anything left to give i've got so much virtue that has gone out of me paul warns about this he says let us not be weary in well-doing in due season we shall reap if we faint not that's a wonderful scripture and it's beautiful in principle but it is difficult in practice i love reading that scripture and i i'd love to apply it to my life but if you want to be real it's hard it's hard to not get weary it's hard to not faint i've got a lot of people to please and this leads me to a brief story in the bible that i want to bring out this morning that i want to share with you that hopefully will help me and help you john chapter 6 verses 1 through 9. after these things after ministering after giving of himself after healing after doing so much jesus went over the sea of galilee which is the sea of tiberias and a great multitude followed him i just want to get away for a little bit i've given all i can give i've preached hard sermons i've healed a lot of sick folk i'm give out i'm running it seems like he's trying to get away i'm going to the other side of the sea maybe i can get rid of some of these people that are just needing more and more and more people are draining and a great multitude followed him why because they saw his miracles and what he had done for them that were diseased jesus was effective anytime you're effective whether it be in ministry whether it be on the job whether it be in your home people are going to want more if you're an effective minister people say man they can do this i wonder if they can do that you being effective in your home as a spouse wow i didn't know that they were going to be that effective i wonder if they can do more you being effective as a parent wow what a dad or mom i have they've been so good to me i wonder what else they can do whenever you are effective people follow you people want more people desiring to see more want you to do more more more more jesus being very effective people want more they'll even cross the sea to get to him so last ditch effort he makes next verse jesus went up into a mountain i've gone across the sea now i'm going to climb a mountain and there i'm just going to sit with my disciples try and get a little bit of rest and the passover feast of the jews was nigh it was near and so jesus when he lifted up his eyes after going across the sea after going up the mountain he's sitting there with the disciples and evidently he's sitting there like this just trying to get away from everything people pulling on him people needing him more more and more just gotta have more he's just sitting there but when he lifts up his eyes he saw a great company that comes unto him people needing more people needing us great company comes under him and he says philip where can we buy some bread so these folks can eat we get to this place that jesus has done other miracles and times where the situation did seem like there was a great need you've got people that are blind since birth that he's healed that's a great need people crying out jesus thou son of david i can see him ministering at that that moment you've got a guy who is a prominent individual in the community his daughter's laying on the death bed on her death bed she runs he runs to him and says jesus i gotta have you you got lepers that are crying out have mercy on us i get jesus operating in those times but this was a perfect opportunity for jesus to just say go home i'm tired we can start this back up tomorrow let me just have a little bit of rest that's not what jesus did this was the perfect time for jesus to teach his disciples something very important that there are going to be times in our life in our homes in our ministry where everything is doing well we're being effective and because we are being effective the demand on us becomes greater than the supply that we have he's going to do his very best in this moment to train them how to operate when you're working out of a deficit this is what he says i asked philip this because i wanted to prove him i wanted to test him in these moments that we're in it's probably a test from god but i love what the back end of that verse says for he himself speaking of jesus knew what he would do in the storm that you were in and the crisis that you were in in the point of your life where maybe you feel so drained where people have pulled on you and pulled on you and you've given and you've given and you've given and you've reached a point where there's nothing left to give it's probably just a good old test from the master who's already got the answer to your situation for he himself knew what he would do it's so amazing that jesus will put us through these tests but i want you to be of good courage this morning jesus already knows what he's going to do for you he already knows [Applause] philip answers jesus asked him what what we got how are we going to feed these people where do we need to go how much money we got he's trying to prove philip jesus knows what he's going to do philip answers we've got 200 penny worth of bread not sufficient for them that every one of them may take a little that's the problem it's the problem here today isn't it for all of us i want to give more you'd probably love to give more you'd love to give more on the job you would love to give more to your family maybe love to give more to your ministry i want to give more but all i got is 200 penny worth jesus i don't have a whole lot left to give i want to be able to do more for my family i want to be able to do more from my ministry but i'm give out jesus and all i got is 200 penny worth of bread and it's not even sufficient enough to give people crumbs when people really deserve loaves i can't even give them crumbs i don't have enough just just to give them a few crumbs i don't have anything left and here we are all of us at our weakest and most vulnerable point because we're basically in a place where we've given and we've given and we've given and we have nothing left to give all we've got is just a little bit that's not even sufficient to give people crumbs we're at our weakest most vulnerable point and it we can't cover everything so here we are and it's a perfect opportunity either for a miracle or for what we all face everybody here today it's a perfect opportunity for the enemy to start in on us start in on us with his lies and his deceit telling each and every one of us you should have done more already this many people shouldn't be following this many people shouldn't be requiring more from you you should have already fixed this you should have already done that you should have already been better you could have done this or you could have done that or you could have spent more time with your family or you could have spent more time with your ministry or you could have spent more time with your disciple you had more you could have done and now look here at you you have nothing left to give and the enemy is trying to use these moments in our life to discourage us to lie to us and to condemn us that's the thing that all of us battle more than anything is that condemnation that we feel that guilt that we feel of i could have done more or i should have done more or i could have been a better parent or i could have been a better spouse or i could have been a better minister there's things that i could have done that would have kept me from being where i am now and now here i am and people want so much from me and i give out i have no more left in me to give and i'm feeling so condemned this morning and so guilty this morning because i'm just give out let me tell all of us something here this morning myself included we all could have done better we all could have at some point parented better been a better spouse had a better marriage we could have loved more we could have reached harder for somebody there's all things we could have done better but we don't have to live under that guilt and condemnation [Applause] let me remind us i'm not perfect you're not perfect mistakes are going to be made mistakes have been made things we could have done or things we should have done we could have done so many things better but we're only human we have clay feet i'm not okaying the mistake don't get me wrong i'm not saying that that was okay but i am saying that by the blood of jesus christ i don't have to be guilty laden about it anymore i don't have to feel so condemned about it anymore so don't let guilt don't let condemnation wear you down it's holding you back and it is keeping us from being all that god intended us to be so while people are needing so much from us now don't listen to the devil when he's trying to remind you about your past or things you could have done better because that too will add to the fact and add more on you and weigh you down even further and steal more virtue from you let the past be gone let it be under the blood it's stealing virtue from you it's stealing so much from you i have to realize that i'm not god i can't be perfect i can't be everything to everybody everybody just reaching and wanting more and more and more and more and i give out i give out from mistakes i give out from my past and i'm trying to do better now but people just want more one of his disciples andrew simons peter's brother saith unto him there's a lad here which had five barley loaves and two small fish but what are they among so many with so many people pulling on me with so many people needing so much from me with kids that need me with a wife that needs me with a husband that needs me with a ministry that needs me to be at my best all i've got 200 penny worth five loaves and two fish that's it and what is that when so many people need so much that's nothing i don't have anything to offer that 200 penny worth and those loaves and those fish represent our talents and our goods and our giftings and our power and our might that's what it represents those things i've given everything i can with my gifting and my talent all it adds up to is 200 pennyworth and five loaves and two fish that's all i've got to offer this morning that's my gifting that's my talent that's my power that's my might that's all i've got we walk in here this morning with a smile on our face and we walk in here bold but we know that when we turn around and we hit that door we're terrified don't lie you're terrified so many people need so much and we're trying to do it on our five loaves and our two fish and our 200 penny worth our talent our goods our giftings and we're overwhelmed it's all i've got is five loaves two fish 200 penny worth that's my talent that's my good my ability and i've tried so long to fix all of this and to be everything to everybody just on that and i know it's not enough and i know i'm not going to be able to please everybody so i'm terrified i'm scared i don't know what's going to come of all of this because i've given everything i can give but god's greatest glory doesn't come through my strength god's greatest glory comes through my weakness god's greatest glory comes through your weakness for it's when i am weak then i am strong [Applause] jesus is here this morning saying it's not by your mind it's not by your power but it's going to be by my spirit it's not going to be your 200 penny worth and your five loaves and two fish that isn't sufficient enough that's not going to get the job done people are still going to pull on you and pull on you and steal virtue after virtue after virtue from you and if you rely on your talent and your gifting and your goods and your ability and your charisma and your wealth that is not going to get the job done you're going to continue to be frustrated you're going to continue to be upset you're going to continue to fail we've got to turn it over to jesus it's the power of his might it's not my might it's not my power it's his mite [Applause] jesus is here this morning and he's begging you he's saying give me what you got left quit trying to do it by yourself and frustrating yourself and coming to church with a smile and acting bold and leaving scared to death give it to me turn it over to me what you got is insufficient to do it on your own it's not enough 200 penny worth won't even buy crumbs for things that people need from you you've got to turn it over to me you've got to give it to me so take what little you got and give it to me quit trying to do it on your own merit quit trying to do it on your own ability and give it to me you'll never add up to everything that your wife or husband wants to be or wants you to be on your own you will never add up to what your kids want you to be on your own you will never ever ever be the minister that god called you to be on your own we've got to say god i don't have very much left i'm broken in a million pieces i've got so much virtue that's going out of me i don't even know where to start or where to pick back up so i'm just going to turn it to you i'm gonna give it to you [Applause] just give me what you got left i know you've given so much you've given your life you've given your your money you've given everything you could give to be a better person a better man a better woman a better minister you've given and you've given and you've given and people are still pulling and pulling and pulling and you can't make it on your own you've gone as far as you can go just give me what's left no matter how insignificant it may seem and you let me work the miracle in your life watch what i can do with your insignificance watch what i can do with that little bit that you've got left you can come to the music i'm coming to a close five loaves two fish that equals seven is my math right it's the number of completion in the bible god says you just give me what little you got and i'll do the complete work i'll give you the completed work i'll give you the completed project you just give me what little bit you got and i'll take it and multiply it because not only was jesus able to suffice everyone that was there that day but there was plenty left over you just give me what little you got and i'll complete the work and send you on your merry way with more than you ever had just give it to me just give it to me quit trying to do it by yourself we're trying to do it on your own talent and merit and gifting you can only do it through me and by me i know there are people here this morning you've given all you have you're tired you're weary and your give out here today but it's just a test god's allowed all this to culminate in your life for a reason he knows what he's going to do it's just a test i'm just proving you through this i'm just testing you through this i just want to remind you this morning that when you're weak i'm strong it's just a test i know the end from the beginning i've seen it all i've got the answer to your prayer just give it to me just come to the realization this is so difficult man it's difficult that it's not by my my power so hard because i think i'm in control just like you think you're in control so hard to give up my might and my power but i've got to turn it over to him i've tried to lead my disciple to the best of my ability god i'm tired they need more from me i'm give out i've given them all i can give i've tried to be a better husband i've tried to be a better father but i'm tired god i'm weak i'm give out and there's nothing i have left to give i've made so many mistakes and i've got so many faults and failures and i feel guilty because i should be better than i am and i'm trying to get better but i can't because i'm give out i've gone as far as i can on my own power in my own might so here's my 200 penny worth it's not sufficient here's my five loaves and two fish that's not sufficient and i give it to you today god i turn it over to you today god tired i'm tired i'm tired i'm tired i want to be a better man of god i want to be a better assistant pastor i want to be a better leader i want to be a better husband to my wife but i'm tired of giving all i can give so i'm here this morning in broken pieces with virtue pouring out of me if you're tired if you're weary why don't you join the rest of us this morning let's do what psalms 55 tells us to do cast thy burden upon the lord
