I love The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly and Ran for their use of silence. Modern Hollywood too often uses pounding drums and staccato strings to tell the audience, "An action scene is starting". It's refreshing to see something wildly different.

In this world there are two kinds of people: Those who love this movie and those I don't even wanna talk to about movies.

Overall solid video, but I take some issue with his idea that it's weird to see Angel Eyes as the bad guy considering his lower on-screen killcount. It is implied heavily that his character is one with a great amount of dubious acts committed in the past.

Thanks for posting this, by far my favorite movie of all time. I decided to watch it for the first time a few years ago and rematch it every few months. Really cool seeing some more background on it. And I really hope Hollywood doesn't try to remake it, even today the effects are top notch.

"there's not a wasted moment"

I've always thought the whole Civil War/bridge scene was not necessary to the story.

There's a number of different cuts of this film. I would be hesitant to call it well paced.

Also, if you like this movie at all, go watch "Once upon a time in the West"

because it's not bad and ugly?

In addition to kung-fu movies that I would watch after Saturday morning cartoons, the television networks used to also broadcast a Clint Eastwood or other type of western-type movie that I would watch when it was too cold to go outside. I had no problem watching these before-my-time yet great movies. The casting, storyline, videography and other elements broken down in this analysis make movies like these timeless.

And Clint Eastwood is still kicking ass. Million Dollar Baby, American Sniper; both classics in their own rights.

see you soon hee-hee idiots see you too get the button ugly is a great movie to look back on it made five times its money back making it a big success but even Clint Eastwood himself thought the movie would do either really well or really bad it didn't have the greatest reception from critics at the time one of the most memorable criticisms from the LA Times said that the movie should have been called the bad the doll and the interminable the main reason for this negativity was due to the movie belong to a not so popular sub-genre the spaghetti western which when compared to a Hollywood Western was considered as a cheap inferior foreign version in your typical Hollywood Western everything would clean the heroes were handsome wearing freshly pressed suits with their shiny new guns but in a spaghetti or Italian Western things were far more gritty dirty and violent as a whole they were perceived as being more realistic its main characters weren't well-groomed not necessarily handsome the musical scores were pretty different - from the amazingly high energy music by Ennio Morricone compared to the more stately orchestral scores by Elmer Bernstein like in the Magnificent Seven in the 1962 Hollywood hero was usually a great gunslinger who faced insurmountable odds taking on bad guys are now smarting them they were usually unselfish and down-to-earth the main villains were of every one dimensional and they're bad this was not explained they were often an outcast which meant that they were either feared or hated by the local townspeople however Italian films featured anti-heroes the serf the protagonist saving everyone the main character himself was even neutral or more interested in personal gain while the bad guy was often as charismatic or powerful as the hero in order to give the protagonist a real challenge in Hollywood westerns the death of an antagonist simply meant the triumph of good over the band going back home or having a reunion with loved ones concluded the movie's story whereas in its European counterpart the death of the antagonist usually completed the narrative sergio leone only had directed a fistful of low-budget movies at this point of his career but you wouldn't think of watching this film what makes this movie truly amazing is Leone's scope and vision not to mention the man never wrote down any of his ideas on paper the entire movie was in his head yet the special ability to use silence to help build suspicion and paranoia when it came to one of his famous shootout scene the only would use a long pause combined with music that slowly increased in tempo to make his action scenes film more exciting and have a far greater payoff even though the action would be over within the blink of an eye the owners unique style involved shots of scenery that were very pulled back where he would have small figures moving around in the distance the beginning of the movie starts like this with a barren landscape these white shots were then followed by tight close-ups of faces giving you the audience is fantastic operatic feeling whenever a new chapter began Leone was great with people's faces he would deliberately handpick his extras to find people who had very different looks and features he would then pan across them giving his shots and extra sense of realism Leone also established a role when a character's vision is limited by the sides of the frame everything outside the frame is invisible this allows you the viewer to see only from the perspective of what the character sees so when blondie and Tuco heading towards the cemetery they don't notice the massive Union Army in fasten and leave early you they only often fought the Hollywood westerns had too much dialogue so he had his characters say more by saying less we're mostly make eye contact of each other pause and then start shooting the characters new movie are as 'rememorable as they are brilliant he'll stay quiet a little hen Clint Eastwood's as blondie aka Thurgood is easily recognizable due to his iconic brown hat poncho and fondness for cigarillos but apart from that his clarity is pretty mysterious not much is known about him he says very little and technically isn't good in a traditional sense however he has a certain sense of honour and tried to do the right thing from time to time to Cove aka the ugly is the exact opposite of his partner blondie he never stops talking Eli Wallach steals the show with his acting he's funny unpredictable and stubborn and is easily the most complex character in the movie always lying and switching sides where he goes from trying to kill blondie in one scene to pretending to be his best friends in another please don't die he truly represents the ugliest side of humanity but that doesn't stop you from loving his character when you had to shoot short dog angel eyes aka the bat is evil personified Lee Van Cleef was born to play his song he is a totally ruthless hitman who will do whatever it takes to get what you want his most narrow eyes combined with his evil cackle are near impossible tip again under lesson is the uneasy alliance between blondie and two coats and their mutual hostility towards angel hide which gives the story and it's characters that extra bit of energy and screen presence that makes it unique I'm really happy you're working with me and we're together again I get dressed I kill them be right back Walter movie is not 100% factually accurate like when Chico assembles a pistol alpha colt a Remington and its mission weapon which is technically impossible or errors are forgiven as everything Wallace does of the gun is completely unscripted and improvised I Sarge I don't know anything about guns he said to take that have fun and what I admired about him is he let me go through the whole thing of taking a gun apart together and I put things in like this you know and I shook the thing I did all kinds of crazy things that I had no idea were authentic cut he says good I like that finished ironically even their Blondie's can look he's a good guy he kills more people than anyone else in the movie his number of kills adds up to 11 where to go comes in second place to save kills an angel eyes the bad only kills three and one of those kills is in self-defense which tells you that having an evil laugh in a movie makes you far more unlikable than a person who shoots people in cold blood but overall success of the good the bad and ugly may Clint Eastwood an international star and inspired many other famous directors including director Robert Zemeckis who play tribute to Leone in Back to the Future 3 where Marty McFly is wearing Blondie's distinctive staff clothing and uses Clinton name as Nellie Clint Clint Eastwood director Sam Raimi created a homage to Leone in his movie the quick in the dead and director Robert Rodriguez said that his movie Once Upon a Time in Mexico was a kind of the good the bad and ugly to his Mariachi series Quentin Tarantino's movie Reservoir Dogs has a Mexican standoff which plays a march of it and the showdown between Tuco blondie and Angel Eyes santera even says his favorite movie is the good the bad the ugly due to being the greatest achievement in the history of cinema the good the bad and ugly is a long film but there's not a wasted moment in this movie each Slean slowly look for someone's fault of a certain style and grace revealing more and more about each character and what's going on to the story the pacing the film is remarkable as is the direction he only manages to build a lot of tension allowing for the film to never become predictable any run-of-the-mill Western cliche and trope that you can think off is either given a unique twist or completely broken down by his great storyteller and your Murakami score is close to perfection from the opening credits and introduction to enter into this final showdown there are two things in particular with the music really absolutely emotions of the film in the Union prison and with the presence of plane to conceal the sounds of people's being tortured and then the climatic gunfight in the cemetery these are great scenes on the Rome but when compared to Marconi's castle school they becomes absolutely amazing one essential element to make a film great is creating a mood that absorbs your attention this authorized effort with its compelling characters and magnificent setting draws you in and doesn't release you until the ending credits again when it's over you feel like you've been on a long and exciting journey originally aim to be a satire on ordinary westerns the good the bad and ugly continues to stand the test of time it will always be remembered as one of European cinema is greatest not only in the western genre but to the world of cinema the beauty of this film is that it remains as entertaining today as it was when it was first released you see in this world is two kinds of people my friend those with loaded guns who dig you dig hey if you guys are new here to my channel then make sure you hit the sub button and get consistent updates also if you enjoyed this
