I love The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly and Ran for their use of silence. Modern Hollywood too often uses pounding drums and staccato strings to tell the audience, "An action scene is starting". It's refreshing to see something wildly different.
Fistful of dollars & A few dollars more are also up there.
In this world there are two kinds of people: Those who love this movie and those I don't even wanna talk to about movies.
Overall solid video, but I take some issue with his idea that it's weird to see Angel Eyes as the bad guy considering his lower on-screen killcount. It is implied heavily that his character is one with a great amount of dubious acts committed in the past.
Thanks for posting this, by far my favorite movie of all time. I decided to watch it for the first time a few years ago and rematch it every few months. Really cool seeing some more background on it. And I really hope Hollywood doesn't try to remake it, even today the effects are top notch.
Bar none my favorite Western and one of favorite movies of all time.
"there's not a wasted moment"
I've always thought the whole Civil War/bridge scene was not necessary to the story.
There's a number of different cuts of this film. I would be hesitant to call it well paced.
Also, if you like this movie at all, go watch "Once upon a time in the West"
because it's not bad and ugly?
In addition to kung-fu movies that I would watch after Saturday morning cartoons, the television networks used to also broadcast a Clint Eastwood or other type of western-type movie that I would watch when it was too cold to go outside. I had no problem watching these before-my-time yet great movies. The casting, storyline, videography and other elements broken down in this analysis make movies like these timeless.
And Clint Eastwood is still kicking ass. Million Dollar Baby, American Sniper; both classics in their own rights.
