pk ultra hi how are you pokemon is a series full of lore and theories and with pokemon diamond and pearl remakes coming out soon i thought it was pretty appropriate to delve into the weird and obscure facts and theories that came with the gen 4 games unlike the last iceberg video i did which was the kirby iceberg i'll just use a single chart for this credit to ninja fury witch for this chart and with that out of the way sit back relax and let's delve into the weird aspects of gen 4 level 1 chatter a damage dealing flying type move introduced in gen 4 it's the signature move of chad originally enabling players to record a voice clip if the move has no audio data associated with it the rate of confusion would be one percent the higher the volume the recording is the higher chance of confusion the move would give tweaking void tweaking is a glitch exclusively in the core series of gen 4 games it causes the game to load graphics improperly and sometimes it's called hole punching this is because someone on the gamespot forums named hole punch discover the glitch overall this glitch is pretty in-depth so i'll just put some footage and a link to it diamond dust diamond dust is a special variation of snow that appears in select locations in gen 4. diamond dust has no effect in battle and it replaces the usual hailstorm seen in battles to put it simply it's an easter egg distribution cart there were special distribution carts for the special events held in retailers to distribute legendary pokemon these cartridges were booted up and players would receive a pokemon via mystery gift these cartridges are really rare as you can see this one for manafee is over five hundred dollars fione's mythical status fione's status as a mythical pokemon is often disputed with contradictions occurring between official sources listed as a mythical pokemon in september 2016 nintendo featured a story on mythical pokemon fione was not found in the regional pokedex a trait that is otherwise exclusive in gen 4 legendary and mythical pokemon its mythical status is still commonly debated venery's base friendship bonari is the only pokemon that has a base friendship of zero that isn't a legendary or mythical pokemon the cinnabar island destruction the volcano residing in cinnabar island is responsible for its destruction in gen 2 and 4. three years after the events of gen 1 and 3 a volcano erupts on the island destroying everything the only buildings present is the pokemon center in cinnabar gym being relocated to seafoam islands mindy's haunter there's a community despised npc named mindy she offers to trade you a haunter the twist is that it's holding an everstone which enables the pokemon not to evolve via trade pretty rigged if i'd say the spiky eared pichu in heart golden soul silver there was an event for a spiky ear pichu the peachy was always female and is given to you at level 30. it also has attacks that pichu's normally don't know the details are as follows the azure flute the azure flute is an event exclusive item required to gain access to the hall of origin from spear pillar in this location arceus can be encountered heart golden soul silver and diamond and pearl sound fonts i think this entry is to show that the sound fonts of these two gen 4 games are slightly different i don't really know though dual slot mode dual slot mode is a method of communication between the nintendo ds game card and the game boy advance game cartridge this method is done by inserting both cartridges into the same ds console however this isn't further implemented as the dsi remove the game boy advanced cartridge slot fun fact i actually remember doing this a fair amount to actually trade some of my game boy advanced stuff to my ds voltorb flip voltorflip is a mini game found in the goldenrod and celadon game corners in the korean and western releases of heartgold and soulsilver it replaces the traditional slot machines found in the japanese versions level 2 silver is giovanni's sun in heart gold and soul silver there's some dialogue that implies that giovanni sun has red hair and is more than likely to be silver this is confirmed in several sources including the manga our gold and soul silver diglett animation if diglett is the player's partner pokemon and the player goes to the pokemon center diglett jumps into its pokeball getting out of the ground i think this is what that entry is referring to controversial reggie steel there's some controversy around the original sprite used for reggie steele as it looks like the creature is doing the nazi salute this was altered and was actually unintentional the honey tree munchlax honey trees are specific trees that could be used to attract wild pokemon very few can actually attract a munchlax specifically four of the 21 trees have a chance to attract one to get into specifics which four can do so are selected when the game begins the values are based off of the player's trainer id and secret id meaning that the same trees will always be able to attract a munchlax unless the player starts a new game the safari retire glitch this one's pretty hard to describe so i'll try to find some footage of it here it is [Music] beta leaks in 2019 hundreds of gen 4 sprites were leaked there were several different gender differences included as well here's some notable ones that i spotted heart gold and soul silver anti-soft lock tentacle during an attempt to soft lock their game by trapping themselves in c wood city without a surfing pokemon or any means to attempt to catch one reddit user alucard the guy discovered that meeting these conditions would cause an npc to appear in the pokemon center gifting the player a tentacle that's level 15. diamond and pearl are the most compatible games trading exists between diamond and pearl versions through the ds's wireless connection it connects to platinum heart gold and soul silver in the same manner eggs received from pokemon ranger and its sequels are also sent through wireless connection diamond and pearl also have the ability to connect through the internet using nintendo wi-fi connection it could also connect to the wii consoles due to the improvements of international linking some pokemon could have foreign pokedex entries diamond and pearl also have backwards compatibility with gen 3 games these games also use the previously mentioned dual slot mode finally players could copy their party the pokemon battle revolution and also my pokemon ranch this makes diamond and pearl the most compatible pokemon games to date data specific encounter rates in 2020 a data miner discovered that pokemon encounter rates actually go up on special days and down on tragic days shout out to shiny hunter map on twitter for this information the rate the encounters go up is roughly about five percent some notable days include the following we got july 4th which is independence day may 5th which is children's day lincoln's birthday which is february 12th and so on some tragic days include march 21st which is the spring equinox august 6th which was hiroshima in september 11th old chateau ghosts occasionally ghosts of a little girl and a butler appear in the rightmost bedroom in the second floor in the dining hall they can't be interacted with and move by floating cute charm exploit the cute charm exploit also known as the cute charm glitch is an exploit in gen 4. outside of battle the ability cute charm will cause two or three wild encounters to be the opposite gender of the lead pokemon lyra replacing chris in the gen 2 remakes heart golden soul silver the new female character known as lyra replaces the previous character known as chris reasons are unclear why the change was made but there was a forum post showing that lyra's design has some parallels with red's original design so that's a possibility pokemon league surf glitch the surf glitch is a glitch found in the japanese only version of pokemon diamond and pearl it's notable for letting players catch the mythical pokemon darkrai and shaymin it's also a glitch that was acknowledged by nintendo along with the broken escalator oversight due to a programming mistake the door in aaron's room in the pokemon league can be surfed through using this glitch lets the player surf into the void allowing them to travel to new moon island in the flower paradise these are event exclusive areas that let the player catch darker iron shaman this glitch also lets players go to the hall of fame early level three road on forums were originally event only rodom's various forms were originally intended to be event only in 2008 all rotum forms were banned in official tournaments this was due to the special status it was labeled with shiny anime toxicroak in the episode known as enter galactic saturn's toxic croak is a shiny color variant that's basically it arceus ruins of alpha vent this event is triggered when the player tries to enter the research center found in the ruins of alf with arceus as their walking pokemon the lead archaeologist bumps into the player and moves out of the way surprise seeing that there's arceus behind the player being surprised that the player owns arceus geratina is lucifer it's debated in the community that giratina is a reference to satan as arceus is the literal creator of the pokemon world such as god geratina seems to be the opposite of arceus in the lore geratina is a child of arceus but was banished due to its violence what's used in the argument is that geratina's altered form has six legs six ribs and six spikes on its wings the number 666 is often tied with the devil full moon and new moon island basically these are event-only islands full moon island is where you can find the legendary pokemon cresselia while new moon island is where you can find the mythical pokemon darkrai shalos was meant for gen 3. the gen 4 pokemon known as shalos was originally intended for gen 3. that's basically it i think there's some screenshots showing that it was for gen 3 but yeah uh anyway root 206 theme in gen 4 the location id of 0x000 known as the mystery zone has some music tied to it which is called the 206 theme this theme is identified as seq dummy and is an unused version of the root 206 day theme here's a comparison of the years 206 theme in the unused one [Music] do [Music] spirit tomb and 108. spiritual's diamond heart gold and soul silver pokedex entries state that it was formed by 108 spirits spiritual's number in the sinnoh pokedex is 108 its defense and special defense values are 108 and it weighs exactly 108 kilograms all this is based off of the number of temptations a person must overcome to reach nirvana and buddhism barry's orange pokedex barry from the diamond and pearl games has a pokedex that's orange that's that's just about it gts glitches there's tons of glitches and exploits revolving around the initial internet training service for pokemon within gen 4. some notable ones include cloning exploits morphing which lets the pokemon sprite morph into a different pokemon then there's the vanishing glitch after uploading a pokemon to the server and checking its summary without changing the pokemon the summary button is sometimes replaced with deposit suggesting that the pokemon's been traded selecting deposit will cause a communication error and the player will be returned to the front desk locking back into the server will cause the pokemon to reappear but there's no noticeable changes there's a wiki going in-depth on the gts glitches so that's all i'm really gonna say it's pretty buggy and easy to exploit acid rain in gen 4 there's a glitch that resembles rain on the battlefield despite not using rain dance or seeing any weather effects in the overworld this brain does damage to both pokemon on the field geratina uses mothra's roar geratina of the anime uses a roar that's similar to the creature known as mothra from the godzilla series take a listen [Music] level four bootleg diamond pokemon diamond and jade were bootleg hacks of these games i i can't really pronounce them but yeah these these games these bootlegs are popular for their very poor translations for example the characters easy dog chamberade and fung machine were renamed hat ice cream and game boy respectively similarly the character known as kai was often called boundary ken and kate interchangeably due to their infamy pokemon diamond and jade were found on auction sites like ebay but however were banned arceus pronunciation changed while the japanese pronunciation may be arseis the english one was changed to rks as the japanese one sounded like the word arse to this day it's still commonly debated how to pronounce the ate the pokemon's name foreign pokedex entries foreign pokedex entries were a feature found in diamond and pearl as they're the first games to implement online trading in diamond and pearl 14 pokemon can have foreign pokedex entries registered the entries come from the leaf green version of the language in question when said pokemon is received from a foreign game chatter ban the previously mentioned move chatter was banned online due to the fact that people were using it to say vulgar words this is the main reason that the audio recording function of chatter has been removed ever since the bronzer line has no weakness in explorers of time the bronzer line is a psychic steel type which means that their only weaknesses would be fire and ground however they both have levitate which render ground moves completely ineffective also it has heat proof which divides fire move damage by two also to take into account this line has an insanely high defense torchic pokey walker in pokemon heart gold and soul silver the pedometer add-on came with the game this add-on gave players the ability to walk in real life to encounter and level up pokemon for the game torchic was extremely difficult to encounter due to a mode called sightseeing mode sightseeing mode was only distributed in japanese and korean territories basically it was a real life event that distributes the course allowing players to walk around to capture pokemon garchomp early platinum sprite a prototype front sprite for garchomp can be seen in the early japanese trailer of the game overall the sprite seems a bit more dynamic than the one we got it's actually pretty neat the alga and palkia fusion statue in the manga the statue in eterna city could be seen in further detail the reason it's combined is because that's how it was in platinum floroma townes cyrus there's an unused script in the game where you meet cyrus in florima town this was scrapped and you meet cyrus later on in the final version of the game the script was discovered by map and was faithfully restored by retire the evidence for the script is compelling as the script itself is present along with some other unused content for example cyrus's sprite could be seen in the florama npc table along with the coordinates placed above the triggers battle revolution japanese tournament edition to begin there isn't a lot of information about this edition of battle revolution online what could be said though is that it wasn't released to the general public the japanese tournament edition of battle revolution used the redesign of lucas that was in platinum i would assume there were some more quality of life and tournament play features but i can't really find much so if you know more about this feel free to link it to me the lake guardian trio is the triforce as mentioned by did you know gaming the late guardian pokemon actually represent and are inspired by the triforce from the legend of zelda series for example the pokemon yuxi represents knowledge mess sprite is emotion and as elf is willpower this is a reflection of the triforce as the triforce is comprised of wisdom courage and power respectively rhodam uses the legendary theme despite not being a legendary pokemon rodong uses the legendary theme in the gen 4 games take a listen [Music] level 5 white pichu a white peach was initially planned for gen 4 however the anime voice actors kept making typos saying the word spiky instead so instead game freak ditched the design and went with the spiky eared pichu eredos kills its prey's friends in the diamond pokedex entry it states that it attaches silk to its prey and then sets it free later on it tracks the silk to the prey and its friends killing them head bash nose pads in heart gold and soul silver there's game data that shows that nose pads can learn the move head bash through breeding however there's no pokemon in nosepasses egg group that can learn the move legitimately the question mark type the question mark type only exists in gen 2 3 and 4. it was removed in gen 5 and hasn't returned since overall this type is neutrally effective against all types does klopp steal souls in the pokedex it says that dust clops will steal your soul if you look inside it even in the anime you can see professor oak being temporarily taken bertha's ryperior bertha's riparian pokemon platinum has an illegal move normally riperiors can't learn rock wrecker frostlast displays its prey in ice sculptures in the platinum entry it says that it freezes its prey to negative 58 degrees fahrenheit when it's frozen it secretly displays its prey pokemon hunter j pokemon hunter j is a reoccurring character in the pokemon anime she's a pokemon hunter and with the help of her henchmen captures and steals pokemon she also sells these pokemon to the black market wheezing triplets in the pokedex it says that it grows by feeding on gases found in the garbage though very rare triplets can be found beautiful eye drains its prey's fluids it said that beautiful eye uses its nose thing to uh to drain the fluid from its enemies this aggressive pokemon will also jab its enemies with its nose while it's collecting pollen the final level alpha is a metaphor for hiroshima i suppose this is related to gen 2 as well but the ruins of alf has some similarities to hiroshima people online say that the unknown are supposed to reflect the victims of hiroshima but i feel like this is sort of a stretch i also feel like game freak wouldn't even attempt to make a comparison of something like this i personally believe that the ruins of alf were simply destroyed and it has no connection with hiroshima hybrid glitch pokemon it's kind of hard to explain the gen 4 hybrids but basically they're glitch pokemon that share the sprites of normal pokemon before the battle starts the game crashes when the undefined pokedex entry is viewed however some emulators can view these entries duskol likes children's suffering yet again in the pokedex states that in platinum it loves the crying of children it startles bad kids by passing through walls and making them cry the racist gengar event just a disclaimer this does not reflect my world view and viewer discretion is advised if you want to skip this portion here's the time stamp if not here we go i s there was a supposed racist gengar event this was done by modifying a rom of a ds distribution cart that places like gamestop often used you can modify the ram and distribute pokemon like it's an official event someone made a racist pokemon injected it into the rom used a flash cart to run the rom and took the diaz to nintendo world where people downloaded the gengar here's some video footage of this event so yet again here it is viewer discretion is advised the sunny shore soft lock there was an oversight in the early japanese copies of pokemon diamond and pearl making it possible for the player to go underground on a bridge tile in sunny shore city when entering the underground the player is required to save the game the problem with this though is that when going into the underground in a particular bridge tile and going back up into the world again the player would land underneath the bridge tile and then would be able to walk around out of bounds into sea tiles because the game saved you would be stuck there if you didn't have a pokemon that knew fly or teleport with you impossible sky form shaman in gen 4 it's impossible to log in the sky form of shaymin into the pokedex however you could get the land form for it maybe this is because in june of 2008 the sky form was revealed in a pokemon movie ace trainer denna oversight basically in the early versions of diamond pearl and platinum you could get locked into a chain of consecutive battles with this one ace trainer until you black out well i guess that's it overall the more technical and exploit heavy entries were a bit tough to understand so i may have goofed them up a little if you know more details about these feel free to comment on them overall it was really fun and interesting to see the weird aspects of gen 4 it makes me even more excited
