because of the breadth and depth of minecraft there are a lot of elements or features of the game which are kind of overlooked maybe over time they were just no longer as valuable or maybe updates rendered them useless either way there are a handful of features in the game which are just forgotten elements of the game which are so rarely used or talked about that if removed would likely go unnoticed or maybe they are just extremely rare occurrences that happen so infrequently that plays forget they can even happen today we are going to explore and talk about some of minecraft's forgotten features why they are forgotten and their history so let's begin oh and make sure you don't forget to click that subscribe button let's try and get the 250k when you're exploring a minecraft world what's one thing you always like randomly running into well for me it's desert temples no matter how far i have progressed in a world or how rich i am there's always some excitement when you open up those four desert temple chests but mostly forgotten the desert temple has a counterpart added in the same update in minecraft version 1.3.1 released on july the 30th 2012 the jungle temp where i mean jungle pyramid was added to the game strangely even though almost everyone who plays minecraft refers to the structure as the jungle temple it seems to be actually called a jungle pyramid even though the definition of a pyramid is a monumental structure with a square or triangular base and sloping sides that meet in a point at the top the fact that nobody even remembers its correct name really displays just how forgotten this in-game structure is anyways the jungle pyramids were intended to be a tomb-like structure they generate in the jungle by him unlike desert temple wait a minute these are called pyramids as well have we all just been referring to them as the wrong name for years now like i was saying unlike desert pyramids jungle pyramids only contain two chests which are better protected one chest is hidden with a small leather piston combination which can be solved like this or it can be solved like everything else in the game with a pickaxe the other chest is guarded by tripwire hooks and dispensers which very inconspicuously will fire arrows the reason that jungle pyramids are less sought after than desert pyramids is not only because they contain only two chests but also because they contain significantly less rare loot here is the loot table for the desert pyramid and as you can see you could potentially get a god apple one of the rarest and strongest items in the game but looking at the loot table for the jungle pyramid and you can see that there is significantly less items and no golden apples with the best possible loot being diamonds another reason they are so forgotten is the fact that you rarely just randomly stumble across them like you do with desert pyramids while jungle pyramids generate in 75 of jungle biomes due to the dense obscured and large nature of the jungle they are much harder to spot just compare a desert and jungle side by side and you'll see what i mean next let's talk about a rare minecraft event in minecraft thunderstorms have a 1 in 7 or 14.29 chance of occurring during a thunderstorm which is already a relatively uncommon event another even rarer event can occur when lightning strikes there is a 0.75 to 1 chance on easy 1.5 to 4 chance on normal and 2.25 to 6.75 percent chance on hard for a skeleton horse to spawn the skeleton horse will despawn within 15 minutes but if you approach it getting within 10 blocks of it lightning will strike and spawn in four skeleton horses with skeletons riding them this is what's known as a skeleton trap originally added to the game in 1.6.1 the minecraft horse update skeleton horses were not obtainable in vanilla survival until version 1.9 where skeleton traps were added and since that date over five years ago now i can only remember two times i've ever encountered a skeleton trap and the last time it happened in 2018 i managed to record it interestingly for a while the skeletons which rode the horses could actually drop armor and bows with multiple of the same enchantments on them meaning you could get god armor and high protection helmets from them if you were lucky enough but more about that in another video anyways the reason they are so forgotten is simply because they occur so rarely even if it does occur and a skeleton horse does spawn it only sticks around for 15 minutes so there's a good chance the player will miss it alright so before minecraft version 1.16 how often did you see these fellows fossils are a rare in-game structure that were first added to the game back in version 1.10 they can generate at y-coordinates 40-49 underground and in the desert and swamp biomes however each chunk only has a 1 in 64 chance of generating a fossil which is relatively low there are multiple types of fossils that can generate in different shapes and they are made up of mostly bone blocks as well as the occasional coal or blocks the most interesting one would likely be spine 4 which has 6 rows on either side it's commonly known that fossils are extremely rare in fact i have never encountered one in my entire time playing the game likewise most people forgot they even existed until nether fossils were added which were very similar just generating in slightly different structures so that's likely why the fossils were forgotten because they are just very rare and require very specific conditions to be met in order for them to generate it seems that even mojang may have forgotten about them because you can't even use the slash locate command to find them as you can do for nether fossils we all know how potions and splash potions work well for some reason little do most players know that in minecraft version 1.9 lingering potions were added to the game now the reason behind the fact that they have been forgotten can likely be explained by their difficulty to obtain in order to get lingering potions you first have to go to the end collect dragon's breath from the ender dragon and then combine splash potions with the dragon's breath potion and because dragon's breath is a relatively rare resource you can only make so many lingering potions before you run out of dragon's breath when thrown onto the ground they create a little cloud that whenever walked into will give you the potion effect however this cloud does not last very long decreasing to a radius of zero in 30 seconds if a player or mob walks into this cloud gaining a status effect the cloud will disappear even faster so this expensive potion only lasts very briefly and as such there is not really any use to it over splash potions this is likely why they are so unused and forgotten i tested lingering potions with players on my smp server og-network.net come check us out by the way and as you can see the cloud disappears quite fast when multiple players walk into it the desert well arguably the most useless in-game structure there's not much to them at all made of sandstone blocks and slabs and containing a water source inside actually correction desert wells are so useless that they aren't even considered in-game structures but rather a natural feature meaning that if you disable the generate structure setting they will still generate first added to the game all the way back in march of 2012 in minecraft version 1.2.1 if it wasn't obvious they generate in desert biomes however desert wells only have a low 1 in 1 000 chance of generating per desert chunk this means if you explored 5 different desert biomes of let's say 200 chunks each you would stumble into only one more interestingly back in 2012 when they were first added many players used to think that they were herobrine's doing likely due to their man-made shape many theories would circulate online that desert worlds were an altar to herobrine or even herobrine's grave spooky stuff let's take a break from in-game structures now and talk about some entities and blocks which are mostly forgotten the minecart furnace has been in the game since minecraft alpha 1.0.14 a version of the game which is almost 10 years old yet many longtime players including myself have never even used them or in my case didn't end up using them until i was streaming and some viewers told me about it basically they are a version of a minecart with a furnace in them which can right click with coal to make move making them useful for pushing minecarts in front of them so why is the minecart furnace so forgotten and unused well it's lucky that with the introduction of powered rails in later updates of the game players didn't really have much reason to use them in a similar fashion minecart tnt is another forgotten feature that was added in minecraft 1.5 back in 2013. minecart tnt can be triggered by powered activator rails fire charged by being hit or if it falls from more than three blocks so why are these so unused and forgotten well it's simply because if you want to blow something up you just go play some tnt and do it nobody wants to spend time and resources placing rails or other infrastructure just for it to be blown up simple as that villagers are one of the cooler features of minecraft useful locations for loot resources and villages of course bustling with life and action they are a happy and upbeat place to be but what if they were abandoned run down destroyed and infested with zombies and zombie villagers well little do most players know there is a two percent chance that the village can generate as what's known as an abandoned village a ghastly and grim place abandoned villages are overrun with cobblestone and mossy cobblestone laying with brown stained glass as well as cobwebs infesting the village buildings there is also not a single light source inside no doors are available and upon generating no matter the time of day the abandoned village will be crawling with zombie villagers originally added in 1.10 abandoned villages are basically the same as a normal village minus the villages the buildings can still contain chests with loot however as well as beds but no iron golems will spawn due to their uncommon nature they're mostly forgotten as you would have to run into at least 50 villages before you would find an abandoned one on average in fact i can only recall running into abandoned village once in all my time playing igloos are another one of minecraft's less useful in-game structures that only generate in two specific biomes the snowy tundra and snowy tiger igloos are made up of snow blocks with a carpet-lined interior a furnace bed and crafting table now occasionally that would be all there is to the igloo but there is also a 50 chance they can generate with a basement and contain a chest of loot which always has a golden apple and a potion of weakness nearby this means you can cure either the zombie villager or just take the decent loot and leave igloos tend to be forgotten simply because you don't encounter them often they are quite rare finally i want to talk about a feature of the game which isn't really as forgotten but more unused tipped arrows are a version of arrows which have been combined with or tipped with specific potion effects these potion effects can be harmful like an arrow of poison or beneficial like an arrow of swiftness or regeneration their crafting recipe is quite expensive requiring a arrows and a lingering potion of a specific type this is one of the reasons they are so forgotten or uncommon because they are a bit of a hassle to craft another reason they are so forgotten though is that it's annoying to carry around multiple types of these arrows as they don't stack also probably the biggest reason they are unused and forgotten is because they do not work with the infinity and charming on bows there are 18 types of tipped arrows 20 if you include the unobtainable luck and uncraftable arrow and then one special unique version called the spectral arrow the spectral arrow is crafted slightly differently and applies the glowing effect to the entity hits for 10 seconds nevertheless i don't think i've ever used or seen a tipped arrow in my life even though they are pretty cool feature but anyways that about wraps it up for today as i said earlier don't forget to subscribe and leave a comment if you enjoyed or would like to see a future video like this be sure to join the discord and follow me on twitter links are down
