The FJ45 Ultimate Rock Crawler Is Back In The Shop And Getting Ready For Another Adventure!

we got some big things coming up today we're working on the fj again we are trying to get ready for the easter jeep safari that is not like three weeks away at this point so we're trying to get all the little stuff put together and everything fixed on the fj so we're ready to go will for a week we got steering to do and some hood latches to do today and we're gonna put a motor in this thing but not today chad's gonna bring some heads down to me that i couldn't get that he rounded up and found and we're going to get a motor put in the fj as well the motor that's in the fj as people that have watched know miss is pretty bad this uh starting to run worse and worse and it's got two dead cylinders so we're going to fix that problem and get a good motor put in so we're going to get going and get things put together on this edge we're going to fix some steering issues we've had with this thing these steering arms i got were way too short so the stair you can see i'm only using like this much of the ram and i want to use the whole ramp so the steering's really quick in it and it doesn't have as much power as i want so i found these steering arms from rtec not a sponsor of mine but the best piece i could find i think they're double shear gonna set on there like so i'm gonna drill a hole somewhere in here and then a bolt is going to go through both of these holes it'll be a double shear way better setup and it's going to be about four inches longer arm than i currently have so slow my steering down give us more power be a little easier to drive down the road i'm gonna get after and get those changed [Music] all right we'll get this all put together here and if we can get this hole drilled in the proper spot so my bushings that i have in there are already brand new so i can't see any reason why i should replace those right now all right i need a couple of these well i've already screwed up i needed to drill this hole out first i'll take it back off drill that hole out [Music] all right so we're just going to drill the taper out of this and make it so i can put a bolt through it all right now we're getting somewhere tighten all these now we take this here bolt see that should be pretty easy i think what we'll do oh yeah there's a dab of grease some grease on the end of this did its job correctly take this off and drill it gonna be a little interesting except i think i just wiped it off i did that sucks [Music] so there's my my transfer that's where i'll drill the hole got the hole drilled in it we're gonna throw it together and assemble it should be pretty straight forward and easy and then i gotta lengthen the tie rod out and then repeat on the other side and she should be way slower steering and more power i have to tighten that up proper put the grease zerk in and then filler full of grease but right now let's see how this works [Music] it doesn't appear like those bushings are long enough to do what he's done here so we're gonna have to do something here and the bolt's not long enough what in the world interesting i'll show you what i got going bolt bottom clear out spacer too short bolt too short this is my luck my lot in life to never get the right part yeah how many of you guys are uh you spend good money on parts and then it's not right and you have to make it work that's what i'm doing so we'll figure this out just drop it in the comments let us know if i'm the only one that this happens to or uh if i should not feel special all right so today it's ls motor day we are getting ready for the jeep safari i don't have heads for this currently but when chad shows up thursday friday sometime like that i'll have this thing ready to throw some heads on it and go in i'm gonna get it all put together as far as i can today without the heads but i have cam shaft we're going to do a little brian thule action milling oil pump new lifter guides some new head gaskets roller lifters and we got some arp head bolts little brian thule valve train parts neutral onions we'll put all that together [Music] [Music] retainer plate is in now i can throw timing chain on it i went through and tightened all these these two hold the oil pump pickup down so we'll get this thing slapped together and get a coat of paint on it and be ready for when chad shows up with my heads so i'll get this done you guys can watch it in fast motion [Music] all right so i've been busily working here my windage tray was not gonna work this is a 408 stroker so it's got a four inch stroke it was contacting so i had to cut some holes in it to make this work but it's currently fitting and everything's good if i were to realize it i would have ordered the right windage tray which i looked it up and it's basically this same tray with some holes cut in it so i saved myself some money got it put in now we can start going back together again [Music] all right so you guys that are building ls motors ls motors have a problem with this o-ring right here so this little thing right here is just an added bonus to keep this held down in there good so put that on it and it's like six bucks they're dirt cheap worth buying so just a little tip for you [Music] hello it's been a day of doctors at this house we've been to the vet today the doctor gracie has a broken arm it's fractured you fractured your arm how did you do that a teeter-totter a teeter totter so did they tell you just a little crack or a big crack it's just a little crack so are you feeling like you're gonna survive yeah oh good she has a fractured arm scout just got neutered pepper the cat just got spayed we're not having any babies at this house it's been quite the day it's been quite the day he's not very pleased [Music] there we go now we're talking now we're talking to it how many people does it take to put a cone of shame on three all right scout you're good to go poor dog how are you feeling about that gal right now look like i hate all of you back on the fj today we're gonna get this thing buttoned up got the right bolt it's not a grade eight but it will be soon enough this is gonna let me mock it up i have the right bolts on the way these ones are just my temporary so i can get this fixed and out of the way and i've never liked these hood latches not every one time so i bought me some for a jeep we're gonna have jeep parts on the fj i think they're just gonna look way slicker on here they're gonna fit something like that we got some big things coming up hopefully in two weeks we'll have the motor stuffed in this thing and get it dialed for the easter jeep safari because that is coming up quick we gotta be ready for that so right now we're going to hurry and throw this all back together this is going to set on here like so spacer goes in there and bolts up pretty straightforward it's going to be way tougher than the other one because it's a double shear so it has to shear both of these things off gonna be pretty cool i'll get it handled my spacers are too short by a little so we're gonna go machine something that's the same size as that little piece and we'll get it put together so we're gonna use this chunk it's pretty dang close we'll just clean it up use that okay it's nice and tight like all right there's that all right we gotta go measure some stuff up that that that didn't work out very well that looks better about that much what i need all right [Applause] we're about to see oh look at that voila a guy could find the nut that he took off of that you're in good shape this it right here yep that's the one right there we're partially done double shear handle now we gotta deal with hood latches and it'll be ready for a motor and then we can be ready for the easter jeep safari we'll get these put on we're gonna put them in these original holes right here those are gonna bolt right in there just like we meant them to be should tighten right down these are coming off because i hate them and then this latch mechanism should bolt right on to somewhere there and that's what it should look like yeah something like that oh yeah we should be mostly in business that's pretty cool that those were the same bolt pattern here yeah drill a new hole got to weld this other hole up but there's that i guess that's as tight as that goes we got to figure out how to make this all fit still missing one cannot really yeah it fell off of this other one where'd you set that try it here you didn't set it i've had a hard time finding that i guess i'm gonna have to tear this all apart to mount that because you can't get to it [Music] i think i like those they're different but they're not gonna cut me anymore like those other ones did so i think i like it so this thing is uh pretty much ready other than i need heads to show up and i need my rear seat to show up and i gotta get a window in it for the easter jeep safari but it's coming so we're gaining little by little thanks for watching
