hold on it's that time we're gonna pull the FJ in jerk the motor out of it [Music] [Music] hopefully that doesn't have to go back a little dirt in the inside of there like my filter wasn't filtering very great [Music] that was too short to make it through we'll figure something out for it removable this gonna do what we thought it might oh yeah it is tight but it's there good enough getting this air compressor up out of here maybe we can get to the rest of everything once it's out if and it will come out oh come on oh yeah one air compressor there goes sort of controlled and mostly not controlled Joe's clamp screwed up that's nice I love this tear it apart seen worse [Music] I think that's the only other thing hold it right in the beach that hurt you all right yeah [Music] [Music] all right last bolt on that header this one may just make fish up out of there like so voila [Music] pop the dart here what are you up to like you got a mess there yeah we got a mask pulling this motor apart what do you think I think it needs a bigger one I think it's gonna run it better hopefully it's got a little more juice in this one here [Music] foreign had to go to a town board meeting I'm back we're finishing this so we're ready tomorrow it's it's getting gutted I got a strap on it I think I am ready to lift this thing up everything's unbolted we'll see if it's going to come out or if I got to cut a cross member I put underneath times will tell go ahead leak it all out foreign so I got the mess cleaned up old motor setting over there just waiting for uh Michelle's Jeepster we're gonna fix it and it's going in the Jeepster new 408 setting right there waiting for Chad to show up with the heads so we can finish putting it together so we can go to the Easter Jeep Safari which is coming right up nothing like waiting to the last minute to get stuff done but here we are killing it all right we just uh rolled into the shop this morning there's a motorhome parked in my driveway and trick flow heads setting on my table right here so that means one thing Chad's here yeah he's right on cue right there's Chad so these heads I ordered a set of them and they kept getting back ordered and back ordered and they were going to come after the Easter Jeep Safari so I called Chad and he tracked a set of them down for me yeah so the last set of captivity yeah exactly we got them now we just got to get this motor put together and we'll get piecing this truck together I don't know if I've told you exactly what these heads are but they're trick flow and I think they're like a I remember right they're like a 2 30 35 intake runner this thing should run really really good when we're done trick flow makes a really good piece you can see it's got big valves it's all CNC machined imported it's gonna be good all right we'll set this thing on we've already got the head gaskets on here the head gaskets I'm using are Brian Tooley head gaskets along with his cam his valve train parts I'm a fan of his stuff he makes some good components this is just some some head bolt stuff to make it so I can torque these what yeah you did hear me right I'm gonna torque them with an actual torque wrench all of you guys that hate on me all the time for not using a torque wrench get ready you're going to see it in action if I go get some batteries for it because they're dead that way you haven't been using it because the batteries are dead no I haven't used it because I haven't built anything that was precise enough to need a torque wrench all the other stuff you could just do it by Phil and it was just fine but when you're putting heads on you gotta have a torque wrench Chad on the other hand I'm sure he uses a torque wrench all the time I own one I keep it's expensive you don't want to get those things out all the time it costs lots of money I want your kids out there using it as a hammer so exactly you gotta keep that thing with no batteries in the toolbox I honestly never had a good one instead until I started playing with ls stuff yeah so these head bolts we didn't have the right ARP head bolts so these are velcros yeah that's what they are so they're torch to yield so we're gonna turn them to a certain foot pound and then we're gonna put so many degrees of turn in them so we'll show you how to do that when it's time I'm right in the fridge I'm seeing what you're doing here JD let's get Paul batteries I'm gonna did you have batteries that's why I'm filming you this is the hair that made the torque wrench possible for all you naysayers out there that say we need everybody who's anybody has batteries in their truck come on well especially when you live in the stick it's good that you did because we were gonna have to make a trip otherwise all right let's see if this thing will turn on if JD's batteries are any good I didn't guarantee them this is the first time the JD comes to my shop and I get something from him usually he's coming here trying to get stuff so much BS look at that they're not real good but they're good enough that'll work so who knows how long they've been under the seat of my truck they're a quarter good so that's good enough that'll work we are currently torquing head bolts for an object in my hands we're gonna get after this and get them torqued up so we just uh use the old interweb found the torque sequence and Chad already knew it I just looked it up and he was right so first pass 22 foot pounds then I gotta come back and go 90 degrees and then I got to come back and go 90 more degrees so that stretches these head bolts and sets them in let's find that pattern again that's the first pass now we'll start doing degrees and then it'll be done [Music] foreign you can see the little Mark I made on every one of them that tells us that they're torqued you'll notice these ones don't have a mark on it because they only go one round of the 90 degrees where the others get two so they're all torqued everything's good we're gonna put some valve chain in this and see if we have the right push rods watch your bets perfect yeah I'll bet they're too long or Too Short nothing's ever just perfect well are they looking perfect you can't tell until you put the rocker on it I'm wasting all my time and putting all of them in because it's gonna work you want to take them all right back out what's your thoughts Chad do we even have the right ones here are we gonna strike out I don't know all right we'll tighten those down something's not right so these heads the factory ones has these little tiny centering devices on there and these heads don't have any provisions for that so we chucked it up in the mill got rid of them I'll do that one and then we should be in business [Music] [Applause] so we're checking preload on the end of it to see if these push rods are going to work so zero there's a moment of truth [Music] that is it's right at it I bet you about 60 thousands yeah that's right I mean new lifters are usually three quarters of a turn so you they're between half and three quarter I call her good so it won't rattle we're good we'll put them together [Music] what we're doing here is priming the oil system we've got this little bottle and we'll put five quarts of oil in it and we'll put some air pressure to it and it'll go through this motor Prime everything get all the oil we'll see it come out all the Rockers we'll know we're good oil starting to come through them getting lifters Everything full we got one left on this side we'll rotate it around that's the only dry one it'll get it eventually like watching oil dried right like watching oil leak I'll cover that side up put a little bit of this zinc additive in it just to little less friction stuff in there for the break-in make everything get to know each other inside this motor [Music] she's about to go back in in an hour it'll be bolded in it won't be running but I'll have it to where it looks like it might [Music] Loctite says they won't come off [Music] ouch there's a light right there we're gonna have to get a jack under the chance Michiana and then we're gonna be in the chips be pretty close right there go up just a little on that Jack okay okay let her down just a little that'll work I'll get a couple bolts put in it that's a motor almost installed [Applause] get this other side let's see if I cussed the right guy for engineering this it all bolts back in so far so good genius and didn't even know it beautiful sight he's in a little button up bell housing bolts and torque converter bolts and then we'll start putting headers on all right update motor's bolted in headers are hooked up Chad's cutting fitec out of my life we're gonna set the fast intake on see where we got to cut the hole through the dash to get our computer inside probably gonna end up moving the pressure regulator out of the way we got some fuel lines to reroute uh but we're gaining Maybe by uh tomorrow afternoonish this thing will be alive there's Michelle I almost crashed today she almost my brand new truck she almost crashed I was passing him and he's like on his phone and he pulled over onto the side of me my stellar driver skills saved Our Lives that's a public service announcement from Michelle yeah stay off your phones when you're driving so what are we talking about here Paul just uh Murphy's Law for us that basically whatever can happen happens to us so apparently Paul thought that he was the most unlucky person in the world then Chad comes to town and apparently he's telling us that he's got the same issues yeah I got the same kind of kind of look there's a junk part anywhere in the world it's gonna end up in my shop and I have to deal so now they're together yeah oh yeah so we can ruin a lot of stuff oh well that's good that both of you guys are super unlucky yeah we can laugh about it together well once you once it's happened so many times you just you expect it once stuff works right you're like what what just happened so what's going wrong currently currently nothing I'm plugging spark plug wires on but I've already had to bend the header heat it up make it fit because these heads are angled Port plugs but do the heads work that he brought we're gonna find out find out oh what are heads head headers [Applause] I knew I was close they're part of the motor these shiny parts right there that's the head the part that looks new I knew that that's the head so what if they're not you're gonna want to leave probably we should be fine they're gonna be good they're good parts oh look Chad's an optimistic now what are the parts you're worried about wiring yeah I still got we still got to make the Holly stuff all plug in and talk to everything else how much more do you have to do before this thing tomorrow afternoon this thing should run we're basically getting close to where we can set the intake on we got to move this probably over here cut a hole put a rubber grommet we're going to try to use one of these holes but I would definitely cut another hole just for the FJ purists girl right there all right came out I'm going to shut off the camera all right yep were those two fire or holes of the firewall are I gotta drill a two inch hole for the computer harness to go through right there and into the inside we're just getting everything mocked up and it's gonna work we'll uh foreign [Music] I should show this so uh this right here spent good money on this I don't know if you can hear that the throttle body the blade is hitting right here in the bottom of this so I gotta go sandpaper it down to make it clear all right got her machined out you can hear now that there's no hitting fixed all right we had to do a little more buffing on it but no hitting now throttle body is mounted my throttle cable is actually going to work properly so things are starting to come together here [Music] okay I think we're ready I tighten that up no I didn't did I grab me that little uh nut driver and I'll tighten it make this not leak and okay I think uh I think we're ready to pull it down oh you fixed your uh oh yeah your throttle this thing's gonna scream and it had a holy cow hopefully by noon this thing's making some noise and I'm coming down to see that all right we'll see you later okay see ya all right so intake this thing looks like a motor now yeah so now I got to put some fuel to the back of it Mount the fuel pressure regulator and then uh just keep hooking it up lots of stuff we're doing it all right so we're we're still gaining we're getting stuff hooked up I'm wiring alternator tabs finishing that side fuel is plugged in I have to do an O2 sensor and plug this together right there we're dang close to test fire in this thing I minus a throttle cable this one's too short as you can see it's not gonna do what we need it to I knew that was going to be the problem and I ordered another one of these I can't find it it's in this shop somewhere lost I don't know where it's at so we're probably not going to get a test drive this thing today but at least know it runs good all right we're making progress we've turned the key on Chad is plugging computer in we'll see what happens see if that gauge will go up and get some fuel pressure all kinds of fun stuff so we haven't plugged the computer in yet because we don't want to cook it we're making sure power and grounds are everywhere that's supposed to be and then we'll plug it in look at that smiling face over there just waiting for the noise yeah as am I it's gonna make some shortly all right so Chad is currently hooking stuff up here we're gonna tell it that we want it to live and see what it does I don't see any leaks holding pressure what all right now it's still dripping I need that got it okay I'm holding pressure so that's a good sign okay here it goes yeah I like it I like it too that's going to be good nice runs I'm happy so those are good noises we were hearing everything is good to go I will finish putting this sucker back together put a radiator in it tie it all up if you notice that gauge still holding pressure that means everything's sealed we did our job everything's right Chad's a genius once again the second time yeah well I didn't video that so this is the first time they're seeing it hey that's better this is good he's a genius where the bands are right now this would be easier so I'm building uh air cleaner I bought this kit it's like a plastic tube thingy and it's a bunch of bins it's going to get us where we need to close I think [Applause] it's gonna work man I don't know say yeah looks great dad I actually think it's going to be better than what we had originally before I can't see why that's not gonna just work I'll go out and find that other piece out of the Dodge yeah there's I'll take this off of here pretty excited about it [Applause] I like it cutting it off right there we've got stuff kicking around everywhere here hopefully we've got enough of something make this work and I gotta figure out a way to support it somehow and then got to figure out a way to direct some cooler air towards it oh yeah okay that is my air cleaner setup right there I don't know what took you so long Chad would I build a whole air cleaner [Music] when I plug this on here What's it gonna do probably nothing it's gonna work don't say probably nothing say it's gonna work like a charm snorkel we could go on Aussie style that horrible I can put a clamp yeah you can turn around I could clamp that and I can come off of this and clamp that that's way more sanitary than the last one that was on here I can push that in and make it not rub you know what I noticed when we started it what wasn't this one oh yeah yeah that was the first thing I noticed I'm like there's no whistle let's see how much I like it oh yeah we're never Corner huh I could actually put some louvers on top of the hood then it'll yep I'll get some air and yeah I like it cool so Chad and I got this thing handled Motors in it wiring's all done we heard it run one time yeah we got about a minute and a half yeah it sounded good and then we decided we were gonna jump on the computer and do a little tuning and it had made us do a software update and that turned out bad lock the computer so this is where we're at it's together it just doesn't have
