we as magicians can never have enough card controls learning to control the card from the middle of the deck to the top of the deck is one of the most essential tools a magician can have and we all love learning them learning new controls and putting them to good use right I mean let's be honest we all know so many controls but do we use all of them not for me I only use just a few controls ones that I'm comfortable with and in this video I'm gonna show you a control that I've done for over 20 years is one of the first controls that I learned and I'm happy to share it with you guys here today yo yo yo guys what is going on Aleksandra here welcome back to my channel where we teach you card tricks magic theory and everything that you need to know to stand out and be the most interesting person in the room now before we get into the video I have a question of the day for you guys since we're talking about card controls I want you to leave down in the comments what is your favorite card control if you could only do one card control for the rest of your life what would it be go ahead leave your comments below and I will read every single one of that now in this video we're gonna talk about one of my favorite controls so without further ado let's jump right into it the first time I saw this control was in one of my favorite books on card magic the card magic of Paul of Paul and there's some really cool things in there such as you know what we all know as the loop all spread a flourish in the past which we all know as the spread pass and a few other things and inside of this book they had a sort of weird cut used as a control and my buddy magic ballet does this all the time so he showed me his variation on it and I put my own little touch at the end which is just one more flip to make it a little bit more convincing so this is how it should look a spectator selects a card and places it back just about there that say it's the seven of Hearts it goes in the center of the center I don't know exactly where but of course I do it's on top hence a control to the top so that is how it should look it has a weird sort of flippy feeling to it that confuses the spectator into thinking that the card is lost but of course it's under your control the whole time and it's so easy to do it's a very easy control to do I've added a few things to it so let's get into the actual explanation all right so the technique behind this control is basically rolling over packets into the right hand from the left hand like this okay so the first part is just learning that and I use some of you flourishes out there might already be used to this kind of cut so all that is is just rippling with a thumb so there's a break in between the two packets with your thumb like that and now you're just using gravity tilting the hand from a sort of level up position to kind of down like this so that it tilts opening like a book and it's gonna go into the right hand the packet drops and then you're using the fingers of the left hand to push it forward higher and then rotate a hundred eighty degrees into the right hand okay so again you're breaking off with the thumb these three fingers are used as support as the cards come down here it gets placed on the right hand and then the left hand kicks it up further and into the right hand just like that very very easy to do nothing to it okay so that's the first part if you know that you already can do this control now when you have a card selected you could do it in any which way you please but when you want to have it placed back you're gonna want to do the first step before they place it back so you're gonna want about a third of the deck to roll into the right hand first before the card gets put back okay so you say okay can you please put the card back here they do so I'll leave it on the top face up so you can understand what's going on so at this point you're gonna riffle again with the thumb okay and riffling you don't need to actually riffle you can just break it off but I kind of like to just riffle like this as I'm getting ready to do it so here riffle get that break and now roll the top packet of the left hand the same way that you know how to do already into the right hand leaving the card that is selected now on the top packet of the right hand and now the whole packet of the right hand is going to roll back into the left hand by doing the exact same thing and rolling it back on top and now the card is now on top but facedown look how good this looks let's say it's the same card place it down right here I'm gonna leave it in the middle of the middle I don't know exactly where it is and like that so you don't have to do it fast okay sometimes you would think and move like this that could be super obvious that you have to do it fast to cover the motion of what's going on but you don't have to do you say look it's in the middle of the middle not really sure where it is of course it does look good when you do it fast as well so it's only gonna be depending on your preference on how you want to do it now at the end of this I like to add one more spin to make it a sort of a complete confusion for the spectator just in case they were paying attention very very closely to their card you know there's some people that just don't take their eyes off the deck so I like to add one more rotation here and then back into the left hand just so I could add more spins to this control and more spins equals more confusion more confusion means they have no idea where the card is so again it's just gonna be the exact same thing like that but at the end when you're already done with the control I kick this out to this way so leaning it on the pinky just like that as I grab the deck now with my right hand on top so I'm coming around on top this way as I'm continuously rotating it around now rotated face down and then put it back into the left hand this accomplishes nothing other than an added spin and done at speed along with the control it looks like this and like that so here are the two versions the first one is they place the card back it goes here and here and then the second one is they place the card back and you go here here and here okay so that's just gonna be up to you if you want to add more spins to it one more thing that I want to go over is a different way to do it which is the way that my friend magic ballet does it which is super convincing and he does it really really well and that's instead of getting into this position before the card is put back to selected card is put back you're going to just do the exact same way you would do with any other control so that's getting a card place and get back here and getting a pinkie break just above the card like that from here you're going to do the exact same control that we learned except instead of doing this where the cards are already in the right hand you're going to get the cards from here into the right hand as a first step so from the break you're gonna lift up with the pinkie so you're just lifting up with the pinkie they're putting pressure as your hand tilts up your pinkie lifts up to create a lever and that pinkie is pushing that those cards the top packet into the right hand alright from here you're gonna kind of lever it up so it has room for a second packet remember there is a selected card right there I'll leave it face up so you can see a second packet to come around your fingers are gonna come out and the second packet is gonna come around this way okay same exact way except this is not all the way so you know square up on to the hand is more tilted up this way and then you're gonna come around back with the card on top okay so in fast motion it looks like this this and that alright if you want to do it off of the break alright so here's the selected card it gets placed back you can hold it there for a second you don't have to go straight into it blah blah blah and you say look I'll leave it in the middle of the middle okay and it's something that if that is your preference you can definitely do it that way and I think it works as well but for me I just like to have it bleeding placed back and do that give it a nice little kick and you are done [Music] [Music] [Music] so when doing any control one thing to keep in mind is to be very relaxed and not put too much emphasis on the control itself too many people are there and concentrating when even doing like a double undercut right so you would see this a lot of the time go ahead pick a card place it back and then you're talking while you're doing your patter you're very relaxed at this point but when it comes time to do the move you place the cards on top and then you look down showing that the card is really lost in the pack over proving it and thus putting attention on the control itself so when doing this you don't want to put too much emphasis like look the cards don't really mix right you just take it in this case you just take the card place the bag say look it's going in the middle of the middle I don't know exactly where and then go straight into whatever pattern or the effect is I think that's an important thing to keep in mind when doing the full routine right if you're breaking up the moments by looking down and concentrating when you have to do a secret move then it just the whole flow of the routine is off and then the spectators could sense that right so just keep that in mind keep it casual you just I don't know where the card is and go straight into it don't break it up too much by concentrating on the particular moves so with that being said if you did enjoy this video and learn something I would appreciate it if you hit that like button comment down below like I said your favorite ctrl and subscribe if you haven't already because there are more videos just like this coming up very soon thank you so much guys and we will see you on the next
