to england for a bit of crack we're going to talk about the story of one joanne dennehy or joanna it seems depending on who you ask who lived in cambridge sure shire sure sure sure why not she was just mad about bunny and clyde they were her heroes which is pretty cringe i mean she's not a teenager so it's a surprising choice though what's even more surprising are her life choice as that couldn't have gone any worse let's give it a go [Music] so uh this story really begins on the 30th of march 2013. begins then depending on how you tell it this is how i'm telling you in a place called the fans in cambridge sure a fairly agricultural region a man was walking the yellow dog you know yourself and he was the one who stumbled across the inciting incident the inciting incident being the discovery of a body though i suppose it's the dog that should really get the credit as that was the the yolk that you know sniffed him out [Music] a man was found lying in a ditch face down naked below the waist but above that he was wearing women's clothing a black sequined dress he'd been viciously stabbed to death and cruelly left in a ditch in the middle of nowhere the body was identified as 48 year old kevin lee and the unsolved mystery of you know who who did this to kevin that solved the mystery of where he went see kevin lee had been missing he was a husband a father of two and he had been reported missing on the 29th the day before he was found kevin lived in peterborough which was not far from where he was found also the day before his body was found kevin's car had been discovered burnt to shite now it seemed to the police that whoever had done this you know posed his body in such a way that they thought it would humiliate him like naked below the waist woman's clothing it was a purse it was like a random attack this seemed very personal it was clearly done by someone who knew him and hated him kevin was married two kids occupation was a landlord in the city of peterborough so a no list of people who hate yeah maybe he raised the rent just a little too much he raised something but one thing that was also raised was suspicion on one joanne dennehy 30 years old on kevin's phone records her name repeatedly came up and she was a tenant of his joanne was also known to be familiar with a known criminal a giant of a man seven foot tree gary stretch my ad here who does not need to do any stretches he'd also already done some stretches in prison gary was a burglar and a petty thief and he was also a scary looking [ __ ] kinda gary stretch had also lived in the fans area he he knew it well so if he did it he just decided to dump a body on the side of the road in a ditch i mean i've never been to the fence i think i probably could have figured that out then trying to trace down joanne it was discovered via her mobile phone data that she'd been near where kevin's burnt out car had been found gary stretch was also linked to that location [Music] so joanne was kevin's tenant maybe they got into some kind of dispute she then got a lumbering troll gary stretch involved and it was uh curtains for kevin where were joanna and gary that was the question they were missing and considered extremely dangerous [Music] joanne dennehy was born in 1982 in saint albans hertfordshire she was born into a loving happy family home not you know the usual sort of beginnings we we tend to see [Music] when we'll get to what we get to she had one sister that she was close to school went well but uh you know isn't it always the way as she got into her teenage years that's when it started going down the toilet the toilet being the wrong crowd boo's stroke school went out the window her parents tried to help but they uh got you know she run away with her boyfriend and would have two kids and also a turbulent relationship with him she leave her boyfriend and kids for extensive periods of time just run away doing doing god knows what would self-harm she began to carry knives around with her that's worrying so much so that in 2009 her boyfriend took their two kids and got out of there uh because she's a psycho and things didn't get better she continued going downhill from there joanne would be in and out of prison for drugs charges she would spend time in a psychiatric ward and would be diagnosed with a series of disorders namely anti-social personality disorder and psychopathic personality disorder and she would meet gary stretch ending up in peterborough a house owned by kevin lee now many of the places kevin lee managed were um i guess rented out by people who had come from you know disadvantaged areas people who had been through the ringer kevin you know he he said that he want to give people a second chance and when joanne moved in kevin and uh her got on really really well so much so you know kevin recognizing that she was a bit of a head case a bit of a hard ass he started using her as a rent collector she'd be going around like kicking indoors beating the [ __ ] out of people to get some of the those you know and later on that would lead to they'd start banging and then juan would begin living rent free and she'd be telling kevin all kinds of lies you know that she had been an abused child that she'd killed her own father and spent like 13 years in prison all [ __ ] but she was very uh manipulative you know towards men she could wrap them get them wrapped around her little finger and so it's at this point that joanne and gary were on the run and also at this point things get worse joanne and gary had left peterborough and gone to hereford around three hours away there they went to a friend's place and were in such a great mood they started taking some pictures to commemorate the occasion it seemed to those they had met at this time that joanne was definitely the one in control gary was her goon once again joanne and men ah yeah didn't really they didn't really stand a chance around her surprisingly in hereford joanne and gary were going to sell some stolen goods and they met up with a contact there who would make you know make some introductions and in fact here's some cctv of the contact and joanne he was um kind of unwilling in this regard to be fair they were kind of dragging him along and they went into a shop to get some cigarettes that hug from behind joanne does ah yes she has a knife against his chest and then she told the shopkeeper he had a uh a lovely bottom and in the meantime the police were racing to hereford from peterborough as a a police officer had tipped off the investigators looking for joanna gary that they were there see what happened was that earlier on joanne had gone to a petrol station filled a basket with shite and done a leger this was reported to police who upon seeing the cctv recognized joanne and alerted those who were after her the license plate matched and then what happened was this minutes after they left that shop the three of them were driving along joanne gary and the other guy mark mark was his name they were driving along and joanne pulls out a knife and says to gary you need to find me one what she meant by that was someone to kill then driving along gary saw a guy walking his dog gary pulled the brakes joanna jumped out and started stabbing him over 20 times just a random stranger walking his dog in broad daylight then she cool as a cucumber got back into the car they started driving again and she did it again to another random guy just walking his dog she jumped out stabbed him to [ __ ] and this time she stole the dog not long after joanne was arrested in the car dog on her lap gary stretch escaped got a bottle of water and then was also arrested as was mark i guess this will tell you about uh joanne when she was arrested she cared more about the dog than the two people she just randomly unprovoked tried to kill she was also batting her eyes towards the police we've been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and murder okay [Music] hello [Music] um [Music] this is amazing [Music] what's going down so uh joanne dennehy's murderous spree uh was over for now but just how murderous that spree was had yet to come to light the day after joanne was arrested the lead detective got a call the call was asking him if he knew about the other bodies just 10 miles from where kevin had been found just a few days earlier one of the victims was a royal navy veteran named john chapman john had been sharing the house joanne lived in and they did not get along well at all neighbors would say he was scared of her and he knew she would kill him investigators searching the house joanna and john lived in found a blood-soaked mattress and the other victim um uh my polish is a bit uh his name was lukasz zlabozewski lucas was from poland and he was last seen on the 19th of march 2013 going to an atm and then to meet with joanne it seems that they may have been in some kind of relationship uh one i guess joanne just really didn't care for both lukash and jon had been stabbed to death lugis was the first to go and joanne would later say after she killed him you know she found a bit moorish you know um like like pringles once you pop you can't stop lukash was actually kept in a wheelie bin in her home for a bit before being dumped she even took a few pics of him in the bin to show the lads and even showed a teenage girl here go on have a go at that today local people have been paying their respects at the now boarded up house at the center of this triple murder inquiry it stands on an unremarkable estate in peterborough's orton goldhay but one where people generally know their neighbours and get along well enough the owner of the house builder and former gang master kevin lee was found in a ditch at nubra a few miles away on saturday he'd been stabbed to death the body of one of his tenants 56 year old john chapman was discovered by a local farmer in a drainage dike at thorney near peterborough along with the remains of a second man 31 year old lucas slabowski he lived in the city's eastfield road a couple of miles from the ortons michelle bowles was a friend of mr chapman john was a fun-loving chap he liked to drink who didn't detectives are waiting to question a 47 year old man and a 30 year old woman who have both been living in peterborough local people are shocked by this bizarre but deadly chain of events it's been dreadful because the police and everything were there and been a nightmare really so joanne was now a serial killer she had murdered three men the two uh guys she just randomly stabbed they survived barely survived juwan was not a right and head clearly what gave it away uh she was a psychopath who just loved killing and joanne there's never really a reason given as to why she did what she did other than she just loved it she had carved men's backs up with knives during sex when she was the muscle for kevin lee she had knocked people out she had threatened people she went to school with with broken bottles to their faces for just no reason whatsoever she had two kids she was unable to form any kind of emotional attachment with and most dangerous of all is that she had a very strong hatred of of men she just tried to stop two as they were walking their dogs but she was able to reel them in super super easy guys who met her said she was like she was like a magnet they couldn't say no to her they couldn't stay away from her super easy to bend uh men to her will till she had enough of them and stuck a knife in their heart literally i was walking the dog towards a cycle path just down there and i suddenly felt what i thought was a really heavy punch in the small in me back and then i turned round i thought it was probably one of my mates or neighbors messing about you know and when i turned round i saw this woman and she just kept stabbing me in the chest and then i fell backwards onto a grass verge which is just by the cycle path and what did joanna dennehy do then she carried on stabbing me what did you say to her what did she say to you uh she said something to the effect of um my boyfriend told me to do this and she also said oh look you're bleeding i'd better do some more and i think i said just leave me alone please please leave me alone but she didn't she just carried on when she was brought into the interview room she gave the police not a thing did you murder lushkash did you murder kevin lee did you murder john chapman joanne den he was charged with tree murders and two attempted murders i suspect that i'll never see anything like this in in my police career again it's so unusual but critically she uh in the way that she behaves and and the apparent uh unemotional way that she goes about her uh her terrible attacks makes her absolutely the most dangerous person that i've ever met and a huge danger to the public there is no logical explanation or single factor in what i know of her background that would have given anybody any indication that she was going to go and do this so she was in um jail awaiting trial and this is when an already batted story gets even more batshit when her prison diary was discovered see she was planning get this right to murder a female guard then steal her keys and then cut off one of the female guards fingers to bypass the like biometric systems this was something she was planning with two other inmates and was called uh a credible threat by like the prison jail authorities and whatever what the [ __ ] due to this she was placed in solitary confinement something joanne would later claim was a violation of her human rights not sure if she qualifies she would later take it to the high court and lose but we're getting ahead of ourselves because joanne's trial would begin in 2013 if it had gone to trial see she pled guilty to just everything well this was a plea that nobody was expecting simon it was supposed to be just a standard court appearance before trial and the trial date is still fixed later this year but suddenly when asked how she plead joanna dennehy who's 30 and from peterborough stood up and said that she pleaded guilty to the 11 charges against her it was something which took as i said her barristers by surprise the court adjourned briefly and the barristers will be coming back to the old bailey next monday for further discussions with the judge but after entering the pleas joanna dennehy said to the judge before the court was adjourned i don't have any wish to say anything else i've already pleaded guilty spared everyone any sort of pain they might experience during the trial i guess in february 2014 johan denhi was given a whole life sentence for the crimes she had committed even after dennehy was told she'd spend the rest of her life in prison her reaction was simply to laugh we saw what sort of person joanne dennehy is today constantly smiling in front of bereaved families at times when she showed nothing but utter disrespect for everything and everybody in that courtroom today the fact that she'll never see daylight again in the outside world is of huge comfort for the family and whilst i don't measure success of any investigation on prison time in this case for joanne dennehy it's absolutely the right thing that she won't come out of prison now today here at the old bailey the judge has just handed down a whole life term for those three murders in peterborough and he has also handed down a life sentence with a minimum of 12 years for those attempted murders in hereford well dennehy has been in the dock today she has been smiling she has been laughing on certain occasions she's been looking at her accomplices across the dock because they're all in the dock together smiling talking as the proceedings go on and at the very very end of the day dennehy who's been in handcuffs throughout turned to the court and she said i want you all to know i am sorry for those attempted murders but i am not sorry for the murders one of only three women to have ever been given that in the uk the other two being rosemary west and myra hindley so joanne was uh with the top dogs now she hit the big leagues gary stretch for his sins he was given life with a minimum of 19 years mark he got nothing as he was basically trapped in the car with them another man leslie layton once again another troll of joanne's he got prison time too 14 years as he was one of the guys who had helped joanne get rid of the bodies and that was the case of that what else did she get up to the list is already [ __ ] long in 2018 she launched a legal bid to marry another prisoner her girlfriend a thief named haley basically she wanted the prison to pay for it this was after they attempted to conduct some kind of suicide pact they very nearly succeeded not sure how well that's going at the moment her bid to marry her girlfriend not well i hope for her girlfriend's sake and that's joanne dennehy a real kind of a piece of [ __ ] someone who just hated you know everyone and everything and didn't even have a you know a shitty childhood which is a staple of these kinds of people she didn't even have any excuses you know um nothing no kind of trauma which she you know would lead her to take out stuff why she did what she did is still kind of unexplained she just was um just a psycho you know no redeeming qualities zero out of ten thank you so much for watching i really appreciate it i will see you as always real soon in the next one all
