welcome to the watchmen's corner this is your host jeremiah johnson and on today's episode we're going to bring you a special message live from around our nation you know i love the corporate gathering the bible is so clear that there's power when believers gather together in person and even during coven 19 god is looking for a remnant that's going to stand on the front lines and declare the truth of who god is to a generation get ready you're about to be blessed check it out if i had a title for this morning's message it would be called the discipleship program of jesus the discipleship program of jesus father we thank you for this morning thank you for your beloved people you've brought here today lord as we continue to celebrate moms lord i thank you that you would speak a word to each of our hearts that would bring comfort that would bring rest in your name i pray amen amen john chapter 17. i woke up this morning thinking about my own experiences coming to prophetic conferences over the years i'd mentioned previously my father pastored a large charismatic church in indianapolis indiana growing up i remember coming to morningstar conferences as a little boy as i went to college and began to get a bible degree i just had this hunger to learn and grow about the prophetic so much so that i when i was 19 years old i heard about this conference in mechanicsburg pennsylvania called the voice of the prophets conference rick joyner was one of the speakers just wanted to help develop my gifts and so at that time i had no money i don't know if you're there right now but don't let having no money ever stop you from pursuing the hunger that god puts in you so i decided to hitchhike up to the prophets conference from lakeland florida all the way up to pennsylvania i remember sitting by the side of the road with a sign that literally said looking for a ride to the prophet's conference if you knew my story you would really find it funny that i now speak at prophetic conferences because i was literally one of those guys just on the back row with a hunger and a desire to learn about the prophetic and look what god has done all these years later i mean it really is amazing and so i end up getting picked up by a pastor named dave from illinois never met him before he took a chance i took a chance and slept in the same hotel room with him just kind of became best friends i wouldn't necessarily recommend you know just rooming with some guy you've never met but i was hungry i was desiring to grow and so went up to the prophets conference and kept going and going and i remember my perception coming to prophets conferences was like i want the prophets to stand everybody up and like give them a word and i kept going to prophets conferences and realizing for many of them you might be able to go in the back room and get prophetic ministry but most of the prophets wouldn't just stand people up and tell them their social security number and their destiny and just found myself frustrated saying lord what what what's up with these prophets conferences there's no real personal prophetic ministry and i remember sitting in the back row and the lord kind of adjusted me and he corrected me and i feel like the lord has a word for many of us that are here today out of my own experiences kind of attending these types of conferences and the lord said to me jeremiah they're demonstrating a realm of maturity you know not of these are mature prophets men and women of god who understand that their primary role is to teach you how to hear god for yourself rather than make you dependent upon them to hear from god how many of us know in the new covenant there's only one mediator between god and man and it's not mr prophet it's not mrs apostle his name is jesus christ and he's given us the holy spirit and so teaching and training the prophetic at least now for the last 10 years full time i always just really have a burden for the body as you know i'm a local church guy i want to help the saints develop a relationship with the holy spirit where they might know for themselves what god is speaking so this message this morning out of john 17 if you're here this weekend perhaps looking for the will of god maybe hoping for a prophetic word i've got great news for you we're about to find the will of god in the bible and if i want to be kind of funny which i know it's amazing i have a sense of humor i always get good comments when i come to morningstar i think maybe i scare people or like i'm too intense or something and you know i really am a nice guy i promise um but if if i if i could you know encourage you uh you know a little bit in the lord i just think sometimes the people that get prophetic words i just think well they must not be hearing god and they really need a word so when i go to a conference and i don't get a word i say praise god i must be right with god so it's the people that get stood up they must be out of touch with god i'm just being funny okay so you just have to learn how to well i didn't get a word it must i just i trust that i read my bible every day i commune with the lord and i just believe if he has a word for me he'll make it known you know it might seem extreme but i really believe intentionally seeking out prophets for a word from the lord is a violation of the new covenant i i really believe that intentionally seeking prophets out for a word from god violates the new covenant because the blood of jesus bans feeding to christianity i know it's this thing called personal responsibility we don't really like anymore we have to stop doing this moses you go to the mountain and tell us what god is saying how about you get a word i just take it real sic real seriously the precious blood of jesus the person of the holy spirit lord if you've got a word for me i'll take it but i'm not going to treat a prophet like a vending machine i'm not just going to tap them and use them to get to god all right how we doing john 17 we're going to begin reading in verse 22. jesus is here it's known as the high priestly prayer he's caught praying to the father we're going to read his desires for us today his will for our lives john 17 22 jesus says to the father and the glory which you have given me i have given to them that they may be one just as we are one i in them in you in me that they may be perfected in unity that the world may know that you did send me and did love them even as you did love me father i desire if you love the bible underline that phrase father i desire the desires of jesus have and are changing my life i mean i left when i read this because we want to know the will of god we want to know the desires of jesus we come to the prophetic conferences and get around prophets and if they'll just tell me what god wants me to do i can run in that direction well right here in john 17 jesus he spills the beans he lets us in on his secret desires for you and i as his disciples father i desire they also whom you have given me may be with me where i am in order that they may behold my glory which you have given me for you did love me before the foundation of the world o righteous father although the world has not known you yet i have known you and these have known that you did send me and i have made your name known to them and will make it known that the love that you have for me may be in them and i in them for me i see three primary desires that jesus has for you and i in this prayer and if you're taking notes i'll just given to you quickly and then i'll expound on them and again whether you're a mom a grandparent a man or woman i want you to know that there are three primary desires that jesus has for your life that you can tank take to the bank this is what he wants number one he desires that you would be with him where he is he desires that you would be with him where he is number two he desires that you would behold his glory and number three to love him like the father loves him before we jump into these desires i think that we wouldn't be maybe even handling this text with integrity if i didn't point out to you something so amazing in verse 23 if you look at it quickly he says i in them and you and me that they may be perfected in unity that the world may know that you did send me and did love them even as you have loved me father you have loved them talking about you and i the disciples father you have loved them even as you have loved me this greek word even as is the greek word cothose k-a-t-h-o-s kothos and it literally means in precisely and exactly the same manner as see we all know that the father loves jesus but do you know that the father loves you today and exactly and precisely the same manner as he loves his son oh you better believe it that's good you awake this morning the creator of the universe the god who made the heavens and the earth is not just some distant grandpa in the sky who doesn't have any time for you and i and it's like we're bothering him because he's busy with other people wrong the father loves you and exactly and precisely the same manner as he loves his own son jesus i mean can somebody just say amen thank you god anybody ever struggle with rejection abandonment issues ever done the flower thing he loves me he loves me not he loves me paul said nothing can separate me from the love of god height nor death angel nor demon present nor the future what would your life look like if you never doubted the love of god for your life ever again what if death disease divorce disaster was never meant to challenge whether god loves you or not what if death disease divorce disaster were never meant to ever challenge whether god loves you or not he loves you he loves you he loves you and nothing will ever change that he loves you now again sometimes his love manifests his discipline but he still loves you lord i just need to know your will for my life see here's what i've discovered when we prophesy destiny to people and they don't know their identity the destiny never comes to pass if you sat me down and said what have you learned in 10 years of doing prophetic ministry all over the world i would simply say just that prophesying the future to people without them being rooted in their identity in the as the beloved of god if they don't know that and they're not secure in that reality prophesying to them the future will actually put pressure on them that will be used to literally sabotage their destiny so i think a lot of the we need to have more teachings on our belovedness brennan manning he wrote a book called abba's child if what i'm saying to you is gelling this morning get some jack frost get get some brennan manning he said we must seek to radically identify ourselves as the beloved of god do you know why hard preaching doesn't bother me do you know why people often even must misunderstand me radical preaching doesn't bother me because i know i'm loved so when people start preaching correction and repentance i say praise god thank you father that you love me enough not to leave me the way that you found me but if you don't know that he loves you you will receive his correction as his rejection i was having this conversation with the lord some months ago father why is this generation obsessed with singing about your love why is this generation obsessed with needing messages on your love you know all the worship songs me i us we it's me centered the messages are me centered why do we need to hear about his love publicly you know what god said to me because they've never heard my whisper privately i just i love waking up and just getting with him just waking up as a son gosh i remember you know planting the church and believing in prayer and you know we got to have a culture of prayer and no one comes to prayer and i'm like lord you know nobody's coming to prayer he says yeah i called a prayer meeting and only 120 came don't feel bad if people didn't come to prayer meetings when i called them what makes you think they're going to come to your prayer meetings oh man church planting will work some stuff out of you praise god i i was frustrated i was you know just some kind of mr faithful steady eddie and you know i'll i'll just be there that's just kind of me and my history just just steady it's getting into some probably some legalism just some works kind of stuff and i just remember the lord said to me one day jeremiah i love to hear your voice like your voice has a distinct sound and i went from like laboring striving in prayer to like i couldn't wake up i couldn't wait to wake up as a son and get with my father because i knew he loved to hear my voice lord i just i just need to know your will for my life i just i need to know my destiny you're ready jesus says i desire that you would be with me where i am see this great god he sent his son jesus to die on the cross for our sins and he not only forced open a door that could never be shut again he is the door he not only made a way into unlimited unhindered access 24 7. we can he not only made a way he is the way he loves you do you know that god doesn't believe the best about anyone more correction i've received in the secret place he doesn't believe the best about anyone but he believes the truth about us see when we believe the best about people we build an illusion in our minds based off who they're not in order to maintain the relationship because the truth is if we believe the truth about many people who they really are we would stop relating to them do you know that god has no illusions in his mind about you the power of love do you know that god has no illusions about you in his mind he doesn't have to make up your best you in order to love you it's like when he called samuel samuel says here i am god right here right now maybe i'm not where i need to be but lord i i know that you love me enough just to take me in my present state what kind of love is this or john said what manner of love is this that god believes the truth about me he sees all the icky yucky stuff and he still chooses love lord thank you thank you because i can't seem to find this kind of love anywhere isn't that how it is when you're in that dating and you're in that just if they find out who i really am will they love me see some people they fear that question so much they're a fraud their whole marriage counseled a couple couple of years ago been married 42 years i asked the wife because usually wives are statistically always the ones who initiate counseling i said you've been married 42 years how much of your husband do you really know she said about 20 percent see you just assumed because they've been quote married forever that they're just tight no there's walls there's places and spaces inside of that man that he has forever refused and taken oaths in his heart to keep away from his wife because he fears vulnerability the word vulnerability literally means capable of being wounded are you loving you want to talk about church community and let's be a family are you loving people to the depths where you give them the capability of wounding you lord we thank you for your love so i just keep going back to god we can be naked and totally transparent and vulnerable before you and you know how to take the very best care of me it's like last night trying to get there jeremiah too he's the people are they're turning away from the lord they're they're worshiping idols and jeremiah on behalf of god the father is just crying out to his people saying what have you found wrong with me that you just want to go build your cisterns what what's so wrong with the love of the father that we think we have to go find it in human relationships i want to be so secure in the love of god and his desire to be intimate with me that no one can ever take that place how you doing this morning he loves you he believes the truth about you and he still takes a step in your direction [Applause] when you are secure in your identity destiny will just come the majority of folks i meet in the prophetic movement are simply hungry for destiny and they're totally out of touch with their identity he desires that we would be with him where he is and you and i need to know that the father loves us and exactly and precisely the same manner as he loves his son jesus jesus died for more than 45 minutes on sunday and a couple bucks in an offering i just bought me a new t-shirt that says jesus is not a weekend thing i know we want to fight about you know length of services and you know people's commitment and their their obedience to god and all these things but honestly in my heart of hearts i'm like you just gotta encounter and experience his love like it's not this it's like have you seen him have you known him i i don't i always use the example it's like i was a really busy guy until i met my wife and then the schedule somehow cleared you know you're busy and you got plans and then she shows some interest and i'm like how you doing who what when where why how high do i i mean but see i began to experience a degree of presence and encounter that overrode my schedule i just wonder if you or our churches or our ministries have experienced a degree of pleasure in god that is the fuel of our devotion and our commitment to him i might have just written a book about that comes out in august it's called the power of consecration a prophetic word to the church all right you still with me i'm going to start landing this plane okay three desires i want you to be able to leave here today confident that you know the will of god for your life one he desires that you would be with him where he is 2 he desires that you would behold his glory and 3. he desires that you would learn how to love him like the father loves him now this first desire it defines the type of relationship that he wants with us one more time this first desire of jesus it defines the type of relationship he wants with us intimacy in other words into me you see as i alluded to earlier this intimate this taking off of the veil this self-protection stuff that you and i do we are master self protectors it's amazing humans are master self protectors but god is a master self-discloser he is forever revealing himself to us and the person of his son jesus and oftentimes we are forever trying to keep people out of who we really are so it defines the type of relationship the third desire that we would learn how to love the son as the father loves him is the goal of the relationship the first desire defines the type of relationship and the third desire defines the goal the ultimate goal the ultimate will of god and you gotta we gotta get hit with this for just like two minutes because this is mind-blowing because i'm just over here trying to love jesus and all of a sudden like jesus pushes all in in the poker chip annie and says listen i'm not i'm not just after you loving me i actually want to teach you how to love me like the father loves me i never heard that preach in my life it's just like commit to jesus and love him and from jesus's own mouth he's like there's this kind of supernatural love or i want you to love me just as much and precisely and exactly the same way my papa loves me so to everyone who's bored with christianity i bless you with that anybody there you love jesus as much as the father loves him because so long as we're not there we've got some work to do and then second desire you tracking with me hopefully this is real practical you can take this home with you and wherever you live wherever you go post-it note in your car just begin to marinate in these one i desire that they would be with me as i am it defines the type of relationship that he wants the third desire that we would learn how to love jesus like the father loves it's the end result the goal but the second desire to behold his glory is the method of transformation hallelujah not to get drunk in the holy ghost all right here we go what is god's will for my life what is what is his desires for me one he wants you with him where he is well where is he he lives in you he didn't die for more church attendance and you can fast and you can pray and you can give all you want and it can be totally devoid of intimacy which has led a generation into burnout i've been in all those meetings i love lou engle i love all the fiery and the passionate guys and you need to get rid of this and you need to get rid of that and people they flood the altars and i'm just like but if they're not intimate with him if the devotion doesn't come out of their identity in him it's only a matter of time this is why a lot of us can't figure out why we raised our kids in church and they no longer want anything to do with church because we taught them how to be addicted to being in church rather than teaching them what it meant to live in christ two different realities i had a dream i think i've shared here before the devil said to me point blank i am not afraid of anyone who lives in church but i am terrified of those who have learned how to live in christ i got kids i got what should i do teach them how to live in him teach them about their primary identity that has everything to do with christ and nothing to do with church what are you saying brother obviously i'm a church planter obviously i spend 30 40 weekends a year in church what am i saying i'm saying the church was meant to be the vehicle to the encounter if our kids church is not just simply a vehicle for these little ones to get encountered by the lord it's got to be more than than animal crackers and bible stories it's got to be something tangible youth group has to be more about pizza parties and video games because in an hour of temptation just knowing it's the wrong thing to do isn't going to help you but a heart throb with jesus will he loves me not he loves me not it's just he loves me and it's so funny babe when you get so filled with the love of god it just flips people out when it's a non-negotiable when he loves me he loves me he loves me there's something contagious there's something attractive to the people around you and i truly believe this it's not like oh i want to be around that guy because he prophesies accurately i want to be around that guy because of the signs and wonders dude i just want to be around that guy because like obviously he has a love and an intimacy with the father and the son and the holy spirit that no matter what's going on around him it's it can affect what's within him i mean wasn't this bob jones whole thing did you learn how to love moms did you learn how to love sons and daughters did you learn how to love mom well she was listen listen how was this jesus so filled with love that he even chose one that would betray him he didn't believe the best about judas he knew the truth about him well i just can't love that person unless they have my best intentions in mind wrong what is loving others jesus says if they give it back to you in return listen to alan hood a father in the faith speaking about these desires he says nothing accelerates my heart in the grace of god more than coming into agreement with these three desires of jesus as i study and i pray and i meditate upon these desires incessant heart accusations concerning god's nature lose their grip on my heart lies concerning my created purpose lose staying power and i become confident in god's desire to be close to me i find jesus's desires for me are greater than my dullness and his ability to bring me into those desires and change me by his glory is greater than my weakness and this my soul finds rest and my vision becomes clear i titled this message the discipleship program of jesus why because i continue to meet a growing number of people around this country who are quote over church they're done with it i don't know how many billions of church hurt people are out there and when they tell me of their experience what continues to erupt out of me is just simply this you might have tried church but i invite you to try jesus [Applause] here's the discipleship program of jesus one come be with me two look at me three learned how to love me welcome to heart of the father ministry in lakeland florida we're so glad that you're here with us today as part of our membership classes we just want to introduce you to the discipleship program of jesus one we just want you to know he's madly in love with you in fact he doesn't believe the best about you he believes the god-awful truth you think you can hide from god not he sees all your nastiness and he says i want some of that because there's something so precious and powerful about the blood of jesus that it just swallows up all your weakness and all your sin i want to introduce you to a family of believers who's so committed to love you where you're at that all your excuses just get disarmed over time secondly we just want you to know that your focus should never be more on a preacher than the man jesus we we just want to go ahead and let you know that the role of church leadership is not to connect you to a man it's to connect you to the god man we're going to hurt you we really can't be trusted i've been hurt by the chur you trusted in man more than you trusted in god you bought into an american discipleship program that was based on performance rather than presence just want to encourage you to look at them because what you behold is what you become i've been doing this evangelism stuff i love it but i'm telling you when you start pumping your church more than jesus i'm i'm raising the flag when you start inviting people more to your church than encounter with jesus i'm raising the flag because at the end of the day all the denominations all the ministry all the men they're going to burn up in the fire and only one's going to stand his name is jesus i want to be so rooted so anchored so bound to the lord that oh brother you stink at being an usher at the church well praise god pastor i'm not here for you anyways i'm here for him [Applause] i mean come on i grew up i was a pastor's kid i've been like saw this little fighting and biting and all this dude todd white i love what he says he says i'm so free from me i'm free from you i'm just so in love and in him that you can't touch me so as we close today here on mother's day i don't know moms how you're feeling dads sons and daughters i don't know where you're at with the lord maybe you're here just by chance you're here today and you're thinking wow this sounds pretty good because there's a lot of people i meet they're they just they want off the circus they want off the carousel they they want off the jumping through another hoop and another hoop and another and wow he wants me to be with him where he is he's really just after intimacy he wants my attention he wants me just to look at him and as i behold him i'm transformed and then ultimately the goal of lord i surrender my all to you is lord jesus would you just teach me how to love you like father does i just pray that every religious weight and yoke and burden in the religious traditions of men would be lifted off your shoulders today i pray that the power of addiction would be broken off of your life that church attendance will never do i'm telling you some of you are bound in addiction and sin and you think it's going to get broken off by going to another conference and another service and getting another prophetic word from famous so and so and the lord is saying to you today the door to freedom is encountering my love i i pray that this church this ministry morningstar although it's the call of the prophetic in the lighthouse i pray that this place would be known for its love for its intimacy we say down in lakeland koinonia before ekklesia i refuse to do ministry with people that i'm not in intimate relationship with my gosh where would we be in the ministry if you took away the platform i wonder if we would even do relationship with one another just grab the hand of the person next to you and father we thank you that your love is here your love was revealed to us love stepped into planet earth and god we're grateful i just here today wherever you're at i just encourage you just to say god thank you god thank you that you just see it all and you just love me god we thank you for just all the striving and and all the running to and fro lord just just to stop today some of you you you're running trying to pursue god and the lord is saying today it stops being about your pursuit of me and it starts being about my pursuit of you david said surely goodness and mercy are tracking me down into very distant days father i thank you that your love is tracking us down following us along every path of life god fill marriages with your love today fill families with your love today father i pray for a mom in here that hasn't heard from a son or daughter in a while god let that contact be made today jesus we love you and we thank you for your son jesus and your name i pray amen wow we want to thank you for joining us on the watchmen's corner
