chroma released during the sanctuary update and during this time he played a pretty interesting role in the general metag game being a tank firm that had damage reversal chroma takes damage to reflect it that's kind of his whole gimmick of X armor using Elemental War to sort of enhance his other capabilities and that's where the first issue arises with chroma by Design chroma is flawed but because of how Warframe was structured back then being primarily CC focused in his metag game chroma was able to get away with this poor design because he could tank and use a weapon that was more than enough for Chroma and was completely serviceable for the day-to-day content back then but eventually As Time passed chroma's kit was starting to bleed it was obvious that this was a very one-dimensional Warframe but because what he offered for Missions was good no one batted an ey the Buffs came Parker 2 arrived shotguns got revamped more powerful weapons were introduced and people started to build arcanes for even tankier setups since mods and arcanes are multiplicative this helped chroma more but because Fury and Scorn were multiplicative too this gave kroma great amounts of reversal per se but his first ability sucked his fourth ability also sucked because to maximize chroma's true potential the player had to invest into his strongest capabilities which were damage and armor and in order to do that you had to scale them with power strength and power duration both expensive mods which negatively impacted efficiency and range something chroma's other powers wanted chroma did offer nice team boosting but depending on the build it can be inconsistent Elemental War's base range wasn't that high and his augment took up a slot which could be used for more strength or duration and Elemental a ward was the only thing chroma shared back then and because of chroma sacrificing defense for offense in higher levels it became risky trying to stack Vex armor as it was not recastable now to be fair Trinity was in your game for almost every lobby but in terms of solo sustain ability all chroma had was heat Ward which was not refreshable so you had to Outsource the healing and over time options did prop up for that and furthermore As Time passed players used weaker self damage options like the hiku Prime with concealed explosives to maintain Fury this would be chroma's biggest Band-Aid fix until 27.2 but despite everything I've said it just didn't matter chroma in raids was fine chroma in defense was good chroma with weapons was awesome chroma in parkour 2.0 was fantastic chroma in Solo survivals kicked ass chroma with the new zenic had energy generation chroma with new power creep adore new weapons for more damage choma with a secure Electa gave birth to new credit farming on a Cod defense defense chroma had concealed explosives to maintain his fur buff without face taking enemy damage chroma was just a good Warframe that was very one-dimensional no matter how awful his design might be chroma was good because the bare minimum was excellent however once you start to change the fundamentals of the game and alter chroma's capabilities is when the cracks start to show idolon was the next thing chroma did and he did them great he could face tank the terrorist attack with Vex armor he destroy each SL instantly and with unir whsp he'd provide great amp boost to the team and himself and this is the beginning of a slow end digital extremes knew of chroma's inconsistent and non-intentional damage for years actually ever since release it might have helped if things were address during 2015 or during 2016 or even through most of 2017 but because of idolon becoming a trivial Mission thanks to chroma now it became a problem which is ironic because after his Nerf idolon basically became triv filled with more arcanes better amps Focus revisions and New Gear Vault Rose the charts and dominated The idolon Meta for years at this point carrying it all by himself it's even easier than using a multiplicative Fury buff which required HP sacrifice but as I've said before it's a slow decline because kroma was naturally tanky and offer damage with more sources of HP healing he was fine at the things he did although the Nerf did seem quite unwarranted back then especially when Eclipse wasn't even close to being an ADD bonus all they had to do was fix his double dipping and triple dipping properties that's why the plasm more dealt so much because if a weapon had innate Elemental combination Vex armor will triple dip as effects and if weapons had modded for an elemental combination Vex armor would then double dip that is why these any Star chroma was so good with stealth gas because Fury would push it past the 512x limit I also said that the Leno would triple dip but it wasn't it's actually a double dip that's because the Lena is actually electric not radiation I could have sworn it was radiation but yeah it's electric that's my bad this is problematic because it's insanely broken they did fix T gas and it's broken effects so what happened here genuinely because of the calculation change in Vex armor the score and bonus got affected as well which made chroma less tanky less tanky in an era of the game where enemy ehp was substantially higher with a lack of Shield gate and shield protection now from this point you pretty much know a story more arcanes more damage boosting abilities mods updating enemy scale Ing and elements viral heat emerging as a new damage combo for enemies and other frames offering more CC with Buffs put chroma in this odd position and once self damage was removed this man chroma had to either use combat discipline or face tank the enemy damage which can still be inconsistent and also very risky come higher levels to offset this momentarily players use weapons like the hea stug and sigma octanus to gain self damage while nowhere near as efficient as concealed explosives or Sera it was serviceable nonetheless until they all got patched then subsums got introduced later that year people just stopped caring about Fury look it's Vault with Roar Revenant with Z's whisper and of course with Shield gating methods everyone became a tank now you see why chroma gets a lot of flag but is it warranted well it depends and because of his kit it's a hard question for me to answer chroma has no gameplay identity and that's the biggest problem he faces it's not because he's outclassed because there are dozens of other frames outclass by one another but the problem is that chroma is a walking stat stick with sacrificial conditionals chroma requires shield and heal sacrifice to achieve what other frames get off the junp his one and four and half of Elemental Ward don't serve much of our purpose anymore Elemental Wards ice armor also feels negligent sometimes almost as if the armor bonus isn't even there to begin with you also cannot activate multiple Wards only one at a time electric Ward might sound nice for shield tanking when you realize that a if you do so you can't make use of Fury now to solve this you can run combat discipline but you need something to keep you healed up as having too much kills will knock you out but if you do not run combat discipline you're forced to take damage from enemies at base still path is fine as you'll take a great amount of damage and still keep up your Fury at Max but as soon as enemies start scaling over you a couple of hits become fatal but in a Lobby the buff might be impossible to get as weapons and power creep have gone so far that if an enemy tries to hit you chances are they die from a teammate before doing so although in longer missions you'll still typically get Fury ramped up but it's just a hassle trying to fight with your own team for Fury stack without combat discipline and since primary arcanes like mercus give you damage for just shooting once a weapon is ramped up it's going to outclass Fury in terms of usability it's just easier to get mercilus going you see how much problems the fury condition gives chroma if Fury was simply given to chroma once cast it it wouldn't be a big deal or maybe having it so Fury increases with the duration of X armor so after period of time it caps out that too would be fine the conditional ofex is just dated and also makes building chroma really one-dimensional and besides in order for Chroma to get 1,000% V Armor he needs to build for over 300% power strength that's very expensive and honestly I'd say it's a fair justification to make it offer the buff instantly instead of sacrificing Health the real question is how did chroma's design get ignored for this long the rework was complete asinine as the changes to spectral screen was pathetic and fig is an energy syone that can't do much outside of Mile CC and credits there were some very knich cases where Effigy plus armor strip could do something but outside of that Effigy sucks it also doesn't help that zeta's chroma got heavily nerfed a unique interaction that gave chroma his old damage boosting bag zeta's whisper Plus Cold Elemental Ward will give chroma a huge multiplier and would force ice SWS reflected damage from your own shots under redirection effects like magneti or zus whisper multipliers on top of multipliers mag was pretty good at the setup too but it gave New Life to chroma until they nerfed it spectral scream is okay I guess at giving you consistent priming element for Co on melees so there is that despite the harsh reality of chroma there is one thing that makes up for everything I've said the setup working if you get past these specific conditionals and P your build around it by using combat plus a healing source and maxing out the strength for the highest possible Fury and scor buff as well as having Energy Management fixed with hydration it works wers this is the Saving Grace of chroma and why he's not at the bottom of the barrel having a huge base boost if you can manage it is awesome it frees up Moss loss on all of your weapons unless you dish out insane damage while not as insane as eclipse or warar it's insane enough to make a difference and he shot you're hitting but that is the real dilemma chroma is good but chroma also feels bad good enough to ignore the problems if patch for but problems so big you can't not see [Music] it
