see PC gaming has finally arrived because in this video we're putting together the budget gaming PC 2023 we've got some of the best components you can find at rock bottom prices and as always we're going to show you exactly how they work how they go together and of course show you those all important gameplay Benchmark numbers so you can see exactly how this thing performs as you can tell I'm generally so excited about this one it seems that everything at the moment with PC gaming is all doom and gloom super expensive stuff so I'm thinking you're gonna like the change in this video assuming it still works stay tuned for the cheapest gaming computer I've literally built in years right after a short word from this video sponsor msi's game on get cashback promotion is here meaning you can get the very best PC gaming Gear For Less get up to 100 pounds back on the very latest components from z790 motherboards power supplies cases and liquid coolers there really has never been a better time to get upgrading but do be quick as this offer ends on 20th of May 2023 so go and check it out with the link down below right okay so ah not again no it'll be right probably let us waste absolutely no time at all and get started and I'll address the elephant in the room which is why we have a motherboard without a box it's just because this was the way that this was supplied to me by ASRock a couple of years ago this is the b660 pro RS and this is definitely not the most expensive motherboards you can get in fact one of the best ways to actually save money right now is to buy a previous generation board that is still compatible with your CPU and then pretty much pocket the difference because when it comes to gaming performance especially at this level there's essentially going to be no difference whatsoever so if you were to step up to a b760 motherboard you'd be paying probably about 40 50 pounds more for literally no extra performance so what's the point it's rather unusually we'll pop our motherboard down on top of our graphics card box and we will start our build and again when it comes to the CPU this is another choice that is a little bit more of a budget-friendly option because you can buy a more expensive version of this this is the 12 400 but the one I'm recommending is the 12 400 F essentially that means it doesn't have an integrated Graphics trip but we're not going to use anyway and just like my motherboard this is slightly older it's one back in the range you can buy the newer 13 400f and that will net you slightly extra one percent lows maybe slightly faster average performance but when you're building a budget gaming PC you're not going to be pairing this with like a super high-end graphics card so chances are you're going to be bottlenecked in pretty much every game by the graphics card not the CPU so if you spent more money on this chances are it wouldn't actually give you any better Real World performance but again you'd be paying more money and I can understand why a lot of people do get confused around CPUs because obviously you tend to want the best one you can afford but it's all about prioritizing the right components really so this is a lower to Mid tier I5 chip really you can spend more money but it's not really worth doing so unless you're going to buy a more expensive graphics card that's pretty much the way I would go actually building a budget friendly gaming PC right now is a bit of a Minefield because you probably have to understand all of the components and what sort of things you can cut corners on in order to save the most amount of money because there are plenty of ways to save money with a gaming PC but unfortunately not all of them will actually you the same amount of performance as the cuts we're making here today now I'm afraid this next bit is a little bit sloppy on my part because the ram I'm going to recommend is this some Vengeance lpx and this is pretty much crucial's budget offering it's been around for ages they've been going for decades I suppose at this point however the kit I have is a ridiculously expensive 32 gigabyte kit running at 4 600 megahertz so instead I've grabbed my crucial ballistics 3200 megahertz 16 gigabyte kit that sadly seems to be discontinued so you can't get hold of this anymore which is a shame so I'll leave this stuff linked but we'll be using this in the build here today apologies as always we'll open up slots two and four because you need this for dual Channel performance line this up with a slot give it a good push home let's look clicks and then of course repeat with your other one the sloppiness does continue but only slightly when it comes to the SSD because here we're using the crucial P2 but they now sell for P3 for the same sort of money slightly faster speeds this really isn't going to make any difference to you whatsoever oh but you will need another screwdriver do we need to add this to the cost of the build just borrow one from your dad or something dad's has the best tools ever and that's just a case of removing this top cover grabbing your SSD dropping that into the bay and grabbing the heatsink and just putting this back down safe and securely oh no I've just remembered what we've got to do next we're going to get some heat for this quite literally but I've said it before and I'll say it again if you're building a budget gaming PC do not spend loads of money on a CPU Cooler that you just don't need but you know what my first ever computer had one of these for what like six months 12 months something like that have this for a month bear with it it's not that bad and then you can just make the upgrade a little bit later when you have the extra funds and also little bonus this is very easy to install you just line it up with the holes just grab the posts push them in give them a little twist I mean I'll take it back it's not easy this has always been fiddly it's something that should be simple twisting some posts in I hate this I hate it it's worse than radiators but in anyway you get there in the ends you just have hurty thumbs you just need to grab your CPU cable and just plug this in where it says CPU fan but anyway that's enough of that let's move on to greener pastures shall we and actually talk about the chassis and this is brand new I haven't used this one yet so we'll be walking you through it this is actually from antec it's called the ax90 and I think the main selling feature really is pretty much all about the combination of RGB and airflow I don't like the fact that you don't have captured thumb screws but it is a bit more of a affordable chassis at around about 70 75 pounds or so but as you can see you've got loads of airflow in this and you can actually use this left hand side as well it's not quite as elegant as a scene on some other chassis and I think the reason for that is because this does look a little bit more accessible shall we say when it comes to price because as you can clearly see there's not really any cable management at all which is actually a little bit disappointing I at least want to see some more like straps or something but this is very much Bare Bones so I'm already starting to think that actually for 7 70 75 pounds this is a little bit on the high side but then again you do get those four RGB fans as standard so that's definitely where your money is going and it should also be noted that there is no USBC on the front but to be fair you've got three USB type A that actually a lot of people would probably rather have so pick your poison we grab our case and lay it down flat we'll then pick up the i o Shield that's actually becoming I guess less common these days because most motherboards actually have one of these baked in to the board itself as only really the more entry level boards that still come with them pick up your motherboard and then just line this up with those back holes push this into the standoff in the middle here that kind of Clips it all into place then grab the screws that come with the case itself and then just fit this down into place installing the fan speed cables honestly couldn't be simpler I think the best way for me to do this is to plug this rear fan into the top where it says CPU fan 2 then grab our lid of splitter plug this down here where it says chassis fan five then I'll connect the front three fans to this splitter then I will get our RGB feed this through to the top and then connect it to RGB led3 then what else do we have we've got our front panel connections these tiny little ones these connect down the bottom right hand side of the motherboard we've got our bright blue USB 3 this is sort of halfway up on the motherboard you can't really miss it because it's quite large then you have your two that are very similar you've got your USB which is the one that says USB on it and then your HD audio these are both down the bottom of the motherboard they are easy to get confused so make sure you read the text before you plug them in once you've done that though unfortunately your PC will start to look a little bit like this and this is why I say the cable management in this case is fairly disappointing because it can be done but there's just no natural sort of places for all of these cables to go what you'd usually have is some form of channel that you'd have here but because you've got all of this extra expandability for fans it's sort of opened up part of the case and it's not really giving you anywhere to tie them down I think the best spot is here where you do have these tie down points but without having any form of straps or or anything it's pretty much a case of you're on your own you're gonna have to wing it I'll have my go at sorting that at the end but I do want to move on to something a lot more exciting now which is the graphics card this is the RX 6600 and this pretty much tied when it came to the best value new graphics card that you can buy in the video that we did in the top right corner of your screen where we went through pretty much every new graphics card from Top End to budget and this was one of the most exciting cards that we actually had in our lineup it's got eight gigabytes of vram which for Budget Friendly Gaming is fantastic and this really is a GPU that will set you up in games like Halo War Zone pretty much any new release really like granted this is very much a 1080p card maybe some light 1440 like 4ks are pretty much definite no but with a price of around about 220 maybe 210 230 pounds that is a steal in today's market bear in mind all the new ones that are coming out are like a thousand quid this is the gigabyte version obviously you can buy loads of different brands and typically just buy the one that's the best value if you can get one there's three fans fantastic but this isn't going to use masses of power so two fans should be fine as well but for the money and for the performance this is an absolute steal installing it is very straightforward you just want to open up our top slot now this is a bendy one oh no I should have done this earlier your slots just bend out look never to be seen ever again it's not the nicest way of doing it but this is a compromise that you just have to make on cheaper chassis be very careful not to damage your motherboard once that's done pick up your GPU give a nice little wiggle and a push that's your GPU installed oh it does need screwing in let's not forget about that fundamental shall we and with our graphics card installed there's just one more piece of the puzzle to go the power supply and once again I'm sort of breaking the rules here today because this is a 450 watt power supply and the graphics card recommends a minimum of 500 watts but the reason I'm doing this is because it is going to be fine for my use here today but they don't actually sell this one anymore so I'd recommend that you get a 550 or 650 version of this its core says cv450 don't go buying the absolute cheapest power supply you can for like 25 pounds not going to be reliable bad idea of course they're reptable Brands anything similar 80 plus bronze should be more than you need really if you know that you are going to buy something like a I don't know an RTX 4060 4070 anything really like that at a later date then it's worth making sure you've got the power supply to support that now rather than just going for the episode cheapest but if you know you're going to keep it for a while then obviously you can save a bit of money on your wattage and this is another one of those chassis where you've got to unplug some of the covers at the bottom just to get the power supply in it's always really quite annoying once that is in just fix it down into place with the screws that come with the power supply or the case this is for your CPU at the top so we'll feed this around the side you absolutely can't miss your ATX power connection just feed this through the side and then connect this to the absolute whacking great connection on the motherboard and while you're there connect your CPU to the top left grab this little set of connection that's used for this RGB Hub and then connect this to the power supply then all of these other cables can just be stuffed through next to your power supply so they are out of the way and then the final piece of the puzzle is of course to plug the graphics card in grab this eight pin connection wipe this on the top of the cards I've already pre-tided this bottom and then that other than your tidying around the back is pretty much it will it actually go on as always step one I mean I don't think it actually has anywhere to sit it's relying on the screws at the back I'm not a fan of that you know I would definitely confess that if I paid 75 pounds for this I wouldn't be disappointed but I wouldn't be ecstatic and over the moon not too bad should we get this turned on let's grab our 1080p monitor High refresh rate of course connect up our HDMI to the graphics card then to the monitor do not use this HMI port on the back of the motherboard grab our PC Centric mouse mat link is down below I mean if you haven't grabbed one yet why check it out PCC Centric dot store and then I think we should be ready to go and that is some RGB that is nice to see on a budget-friendly rig but actually the fans are very quiet which is nice to see and it will add a lot of extra Flair to your rig I think this isn't going to win any awards for the most outrageous looking PC in the world but you definitely have the building blocks here here for something pretty great I mean you could upgrade the CPU a little bit later to like a 13th gen i7 you can obviously put loads of extra Cooling in things larger graphics cards bigger power supplies the world is very much your oyster really it's just a case of getting the performance that you need if you are playing at 1080p then why do you need to spend loads on a gaming PC especially if you're playing something like DOTA Counter-Strike anything really that's lightweight but are we actually going to get a signal on our monitor oh we haven't plugged in a signal that'll do it oh there we go we're in yes in order to actually get Windows onto your PC just grab a USB flash drive and then install a copy of Windows from the windows website it's really easy this is going to be windows 11. turn your system back on go into the BIOS by mashing the delete key you'll then get this sort of menu here you can see our Ram is fully operational if you like but you won't get that full speed until you enable the XMP profile so we'll set this to run at 3200 megahertz our CPU fans are actually already set to silent if you haven't already done that that's solid strategy to get quite a PC we'll then go save and exit once you've done that you'll see this lovely little Windows installer screen it's literally just a case of mashing next basically I will ask you for a Windows license key that you will need to buy eventually but for now you can just go I don't have a product key select the version of Windows you want here we're doing Windows 11 home except the license agreement customize install hit Drive zero new apply okay let the windows installer do the rest and then you'll be ready to play some games just like I will be once I've downloaded them let's see what this rig can do we're ready we're steady and I think it's time to go I mean that is lame even for me but you get the point and now that the system is fully set up and operational my opinion hasn't really changed I think that overall it's a very nice looking chassis I don't think there's anyone out there that's gonna not like the appearance it's just I think for the money there probably are other cases that I would recommend slightly more or realistically for a budget friendly build maybe look at one from MSI that's around about 20 30 pounds cheaper if you're going to up upgrade this and utilize all of the space and the extra light room for fans fantastic it is worth looking at just be aware that you're playing a little bit for the potential of this rather than the outright quality of the case but it is nice that you do get all of this RGB as standard and actually the fans are very quiet in their default silent State when paired with a motherboard so on that front very good let's press on to the games and let's also take this opportunity to press on the side panel oh it's the thumb screws isn't it this is just so old-fashioned but at least we do get a peel out of it that was satisfying 10 out of 10. and the first game that we have in our test week today is one of my Classics I've been literally playing this for years granted not in a while but this is Smite and this is an example of a title that is actually a fair bit easier to run because obviously it's a little bit older but plenty of people still play this and it is one that I highly recommend and in terms of our frame rate we're getting around about 105 frames a second or so I mean this is pretty much to be expected it's not exactly the most difficult game in the world to drive but interestingly it does actually say that we're only utilizing about 36 or so of our GPU so clearly there is a lot more performance on the table not sure what that's all about I really do need to get back into this actually as a game I really really enjoyed I don't know why I stopped playing I think it's because I got easily frustrated games like this you stop playing for a while and then they're very hard to get back into I still remember all the buttons so clearly not that bad but here we are jumping out of the plane into the war zone and actually the frame rate is probably better than I was expecting we're currently getting about 110 120 frames a second and here's the thing we test so many different systems and graphics cards and things on this channel and ultimately the frame rate in Warzone tends to actually be pretty similar throughout it's really anywhere between about 80 frames a second and 150 depending on the graphics card but more importantly really it is the resolution because ultimately if you do want a bigger screen you want more detail then you've got to pay a load more money to get it but at the end of the day all people actually care about is how smooth the game is and the ability to actually compete and hopefully to win because that doesn't really change depending on whether you have a much larger screen and loads more resolution or a smaller one it's all about the way that the game feels so if you can play Warzone competitively on a system that costs about what's this 700 750 quid your level of competitiveness is actually going to be very similar to someone paying two and a half Grand but maybe can run this at 1440p or 4K rather than 1080p so if you're trying to save money low resolution cheaper system the best way of doing it really before we move on to another title though I will draw your attention to that GPU load because it's currently anywhere really between 70 and 90 and this will tell you that we're actually a little bit bottlenecked by that CPU so if you did want to upgrade to maybe a core i5 like 13 600 or the 13 400 F this will net you a better frame rate in war zone which is obviously quite important if you specifically want to play this game you will get a better frame rate it will help you but on balance for the sort of level of system we've got personally I think this is still about right okay turns out I wasn't recording the gameplay so here we are Apex Legends round two or for you it's round one you never would have known if I hadn't told you but I'm honest I come clean but here we are anyway jumping out of the plane this is running 1080p at high settings and as you can see we're currently smashing it around about 155 160 frames a second and this really does go to show that you don't need to spend an absolute arm and a leg on a gaming PC to get great results because obviously in some games you are going to be compromising but pretty much in in Apex Legends and anything properly competitive really you should always be able to find some settings that will give you the high refresh rate experience that really will make all of a difference to your gameplay and let you actually be the best player that you can be and I know that sounds like a little bit Yeah but it's genuinely true if you have over 100 frames a second it is going to give you the best possible chance obviously there are loads of factors at play main one being your skill also peripherals and all of these other things but I'd say that having a high refresh rate monitor and a PC capable of actually sort of driving it at over 100 frames a second is generally the thing that is going to help you out the most when it comes to competitive games like Apex but enough talk can I actually no I'm gonna yep blow we use this as a quick opportunity to give you a little noise test of which actually I'm very surprised to say that while the Intel stock caller still isn't fantastic you saw what it's like at Max load it seems to have improved over time because this whole system even running flat out in Apex doesn't really make any noise whatsoever it is actually a very impressive system can I try that again it's a very impressive system but let's move across now to our single player title some Hogwarts Legacy and by default this actually looks pretty awful the settings are not great what do we got on let's change it to TAA High fsr1 I don't like this at all fsr2 why is this not the default why we change this to Quality turn off the frame rate cap and then change it to medium it's giving me a warning but let's see and wow okay that is not what I expected 200 frames a second medium settings with FSR sets of quality I mean to be fair that's always too high let's turn FSR off just to give ourselves slightly better image quality shall we but this is not bad is it you're getting a around about 130 to 150 frames a second at the moment in a more demanding area of the game that is pretty cool without any upscaling technology at all so all round I think we've done a good job but I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on this what do you make of our system what would you change or would you have this exactly as it is I'd love to hear from you smash the like button if you have enjoyed this get yourself subscribed and of course as always if you do want to
